I'm getting my Droid this week, and was planning on getting Beautiful Widgets once I did. Unfortunately, HTC's C&D made LevelUp pull the app tonight. I was wondering if there was any way someone could make a backup of the app and post it for me to download and transfer it to my SD Card once I get it.
I'm not sure if this is allowed, but since the app is now pulled from the market and not available for purchased, I assumed it is.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me out.
No wares aren't allowed on xda
I'm kinda impressed you're gonna get an Android phone and already know what widgets you want haha. Less it's not your first Android phone.
if you downloading beautiful widget for its htc style clock/weather, you can buy the alternative: weather widget (donate) which also comes with the clock and came out before beautiful widget and is still being updated (for now unless they get hit with a C&D too). for all the toggles widgets you can get those free here on xda skinned by manup. do a search.
Hope weather widget doesnt get hit up...but if they do I hope they only have to pull the default skin for the clock and weather and nothing else
I just flashed a new ROM and then read about the C&D on his Twitter... Gonna have to scour my laptop to try and find a backup now D:

Nope. It's my first. I'm sitting here with an unlocked iPhone 2G on T-Mobile, but I become eligible for an upgrade tomorrow. Waiting for news on the Nexus One, which appears to be headed to T-Mobile.

Any flip clock widget? That was the main reason I was interested in Beautiful Widgets; I wanted the clock to actually flip (I was under the impression it did).
Beautiful Widgets worked WAAAAAAAAAY Better than Weather Widget Donate, and got updated more.
Sad that they were bullied by C & D. If thats the case they should change the look and feel a little and re-up on the market. Lets see the designer of the original physical flip clock send a C & D to HTC for infringing on his design.

if you are interested in a flip clock that actually flips, check out this home replacement app (still beta):

I have the beautiful widget but my problem is that after I got the Cyanogen's 4.2.10.1 my phone was messed up and I had to do a fresh install and go to 4.2.9.1 I have a back up but the problem I am running into is that the forecast animations are not getting downloaded. I know those are free...does anyone have any clue how to get those????
I came over to the android world from a HTC Tilt II running WM 6.5. Has anyone mimicked the Sense/TouchFLO layout? It looks very professional and sleek... I would love to make my Android home screen on my Captivate look similar to it. I love the android OS by far, but I would love suggestions on how to make it look more "professional". Thanks
Try Beautiful Widgets for clock and weather widgets. http://www.appbrain.com/search?q=beautiful+widgets
LauncherPro for custom docks and icons, an upgrade to LauncherPro Plus will get you htc sense style bookmark, contacts and facebook widgets. http://www.appbrain.com/app/launcherpro/com.fede.launcher
LauncherPro is IMHO the best replacement launcher www.launcherpro.com

I appreciate the help, however I have already purchased BW and LP. I just want that more "professional" feel, as previously stated, and I can't get that out of anything that I have tried. But again, thank you for your input.
You could try ADW Launcher, I've never really used it my self.
But you download custom made themes, i'm sure there must be numerous sense style themes available, but your not going to get sense style widgets.
There are numerous clock widgets available that are similar to sense clock widget http://www.appbrain.com/app/sense-analog-clock-widget-4x2/factory.widgets.SenseClock
I don't think he necessarily wants a Sense look, or he probably would have gotten an Aria or gone to a different network
As far as professional, sleek, clean.. the things you can do to your Android home screen are boundless. It's all personal preference. If you want it to look like HTC Sense, go with either LauncherPro Plus (for the widgets) or ADW.Launcher (for the navbar and icons). Also, I recommend Weather and Toggle Widgets paid app, if you want the pretty HTC Sense flip clock with the weather (get the H7C skins for it).
Personally though, my homescreen is TypoClock with four of the apps I use most (Facebook, Messaging, Music, and Faves.. not very professional, but whatever, I'm in high school ). And there's other widgets you can get to make it pretty, like Tajm and BattStatt are nice. If you have any Photoshop skill (or hell, even Paint), you should make a mock-up of what you actually want your homescreen to look like, that way we can give you more relevant suggestions.
And thanks for joining the Android army!
Get the signals23 themed launcher pro apk!! It looks very sleek & professional. You can find it in the ANDROID THEMES (not droid inc themes) section here on xda. Play around with desktop visualizer alongside various different icon sets. I share the same intent. I came from blackberry storm earlier this year and I would love a rom to be developed, that mimics the bbos, the same way miui rom from china mimics apple os4. I hate all the bb themes on the market right now. But I've become somewhat fulfilled with signals 23's launcherpro themed apk.
Oh and check out the "post your homescreen thread." See what you like here and there and get some inspiration.

Try "Slidescreen and Slidescreen Pro" in the market. They're home replacements and, imho, are very professional and clean looking. If you use all of the functions integrated it's even better. You can also try "Executive Assistant" which can be a widget for all of your info or a lockscreen replacement. Both are pretty professional looking.
EDIT* I'm not affiliated with either of these devs.. I just own both and enjoy the way they clean up the look of my phone.

Thanks for the kind words. People think I'm nuts for trying to mimic tf3d. They always say it looks too winmo, but they are missing the point. I love and miss tf3d. I am close to finishin a theme using LPP that will closely mimic tf3d. Stay tuned around these parts...

Hey guys, there a new 3D launcher available called Regina. It looks really amazing, and puts SPB mobile shell to shame. Best of all, its FREE!!!!. ill test it and post a feedback very soon. in the mean time do give it a try
"Regina 3D Launcher
A launcher that uses pure 3D graphics has arrived.
Regina 3D Launcher has exciting and dynamic 3D effects for your pleasure.
Browsing workspaces, creating shortcuts, and removing widgets have gotten a little bit more fun.
And that's not all, we have more great features that you might be interested.
Now experience the excitement and fun you can have with all the cool features in Regina.
Video demo of Regina Launcher can be found on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXhtxecPHr8
* Highlighted Features
- Intuitive 3D workspace browser
- Separate wallpaper for each workspace
- Secret workspaces where you can hide some of your app shortcuts and widgets for your privacy
- Regina widgets (full 3D widgets)
- All widgets and shortcuts can be positioned freely without much restrction in workspaces
- Uninstall apps from workspace directly
- Pleasant visual effects
* Notes
- First of all, select "Version x.x.x" item in Regina Settings menu and update all app in list.
- Supports Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread and tested on Galaxy Tab too.
- Live Wallpaper is not supported because of performance issue.
- Because Regina 3D Launcher is pure 3D graphics, your device must have a decent graphics chip to gain usable performance."
EDIT: Here's a video of some of the other improvements that the developers are working on:
http://www.youtube.com/user/NemusTech#p/a/u/2/HQu53fuzarE
first impressions are really good. the transitions between home screens are brilliantly fluid. the flipping of the digital clock is smooth most of the time but sometimes it does get a little choppy, but its easily overlooked. some niggly bugs, but they are easily overlooked. excellent eye candy. not many add-ons yet, but the available ones are brilliant with superbly smooth transitions and good animation. unfortunately everytime u launch an app ie text messaging, and go back to your home screen, it takes a while (ie a brief lag) before u get there. slightly annoying, but its nt sthg tht'll make u uninstall this otherwise magnificent launcher.
the weather application does not have very many cities yet, but im pretty sure all these minor things will be fixed in newer updates. the menu is a horizontal style transition with numbered pages, as opposed to the standard android style vertical scrolling. the translucent menu means the home screen is visible in the background...a rather nice touch
the theme application has some very pretty wallpapers to it. sadly though, i cant seem to synchronize the theme of the home screens with the lock screen, and unfortunately i cant seem to use the wallpapers that are already on my phone for the home screens. not a major issue, but a lil annoying.
all in all, i think for a free launcher, it certainly gives launcher pro, and SPB mobile shell, which are both paid apps a run for their money.
there is also word that it is open source, for themes and such, so devs take note
Final Word: in my personal opinion, i find this the best launcher i have used so far. and i do hope that the updates and bug fixes will be released sooner to make it even better.
EDIT: This application is especially brilliant for people looking for a good launcher but are unable to purchase applications from the Android Market due to the fact they come from countries in which google does not distribute applications just yet: ie Malaysia, Indonesia, China etc.
Thanks I'll test this

from what i hear this particular launcher is open source. so you could very well design your own widgets
I tried it...but it was slightly slower than Motoblur and LauncherPro. It is ok to live with but gets annoying after a while.
I was thinking about this. If we choose to use a custom launcher, we will likely lose blinkfeed, right? I've got a dozen or so Apex tricks that I have come to rely on. I wonder how this will work??
I know in the past when i used a One X using a custom launcher pretty much removed all the Sense apps so I could see that happening again this time
i must be one of the only people looking forward to blinkfeed!
i almost always had a sports news widget on my homescreen (though not the main one to be fair) and for a large amount of time twitter and facebook too - to have all of that on a dedicated screen (not even a widget) should be really great for me.
I'm looking forward to blinkfeed myself. I thought more people would love that feature. I think it's great.
Sense 5 is so sexy. Why would anyone want to install a different launcher on it?

My wife is probably going to love it. I would prefer to be able to move it to off center. I'm not totally thrilled with any FB or Twitter (-Caster is my favorite on both) widget, but I use them for feeds as well. I can see liking it, providing it's fairly customizable.

I'm going to give it a go. I only use 3 homescreens currently anyway and my default one if very sparse with only 4 apps. The idea of blink feed seems good, as long as it can sync with all the stuff I look at on currents I will be pretty happy.
Still no word on the menu button for legacy apps though.
Yes, using a custom launcher will mean you'll lose blinkfeed.
The only way around that will be to wait until someone has made blinkfeed into a separate flashable zip. At that point, you'll be able to set up your custom launcher as you'd like and then I guess you'd just be able to flash blinkfeed to have the functionality of both.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
HTC Widgets only work on stock launcher, I don't see why Blinkfeed would be any different.
M.
Far as I can tell blink feed is another screen on sense. No sense=no blink. Personally I hope a dev can get rid of it. I don't need a news thing and I don't use Facebook or twitter so it seems kinda useless. Id like to see a messaging panel on it with a quick reply like on the Ubuntu touch where its in the notification.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda premium
I am looking forward to trying out blinkfeed as it now follows holo guidelines and they have dropped the horrid 3d look for a much more modern flat look and if I don't like it I will put on a custom launcher.
Does anyone know if you can move the blinkfeed to another home screen as it would in my opinion be much nicer in the middle screen so you can swipe left or right for widgets/apps
It is one of the things I like too. But I also like being able to turn off icon labels, create my on gestures, etc. in Apex. Seems like it might be kind of like switching to an iphone -- if you want blinkfeed, you lose ability to customize.
Meanwhile, I'm sittin' on my hands until I see a few audio reviews.

Hi. I pre-ordered and already have my hands on a shiny new HTC One, and BlinkFeed was not one of the reasons I bought it. One of the first things I did after getting the phone was installing Apex Launcher. I use its gestures too and I like the customizability it offers. Thankfully for me, BlinkFeed indeed goes away with a custom launcher

My One is in for repairs but in the week I was using it i didn't notice any noticeable battery drain from Blinkfeed the the first few days battery life doesn't tend to be good as it needs a couple of charging cycles but certainly battery life is very good.

hey, i'm surprised about the battery life with blinkfeed. Also the data traffic is less, in one week i had used only 40mb for blinkfeed. I think thats great.
When I first switched to androids from iPhones (I still feel dirty for being so loyal to iOS for so long...) and looked into launchers I was steered toward Nova launcher. I found it to be pretty nice and functional but wasn't sure what all the fuss about it being the best launcher was. I was told that Next 3D Launcher would destroy my battery life and hog system resources along with not being all that customizable. Well, after installing it on my S5 G900A I haven't found any of the claims to be anywhere near true.
My battery life has been more than fine, it runs as smooth as a baby's powdered bottom, and I can use all widgets and customize everything from page transitions to "flat" 3D to full 3D. I feel like it has an infinitely more unique look and functionality compared to Nova launcher and while I won't say that Nova is 'stale', to me it feels like everyone has it and therefore the wow-factor of how awesome its supposed to be is greatly diminished.
I love Next 3D and wholeheartedly suggest it as a more than viable alternative to Nova.
Too expensive for what ya get.... Nova is better on the wallet and third party support...just change the theme and it's like a whole new launcher.

Both Launchers are really great at what they do. They both focus on two different aspects of launchers. I will say this, No one has ever asked about my phone (Galaxy s5 active) launcher when I have Nova on it. However when they see the 3d the questions and double takes come. However as fluid and perfect as Nova runs you can't dismiss it.
Only qualm about the 3d launcher is it's 16.99 and then they still have the nerve to charge you for add ons like themes and such. Kind of turning me off to the perception of greed with the Go Launcher Dev team.

Thank you Sir...g
Hey OP:
Just curious.....Why did you put [THEME] in the thread title?
Next launcher 3D is a great launcher. I used it for about a year and was very pleased with it.
I use Apex Launcher pretty much NOVA
Yeah I prefer Apex.
Tapped It!
I discovered Epic Android Learn launcher and have been using it over Nova lately. It is, of course, a more AOSP feel like Google Launcher.
Personally, I used Next 3D on my Note 3 and my S5 Active without battery drain or glitches. Love it!
I am new to this but I am looking for a great launcher for my s5 01A. Any advice would be appreciated. I am looking for a new rom as well. Are there certain launchers that work only with certain themes or are the launchers universal of the OS just depends on phone? Thank you.
I have very recently tried a whole slew of launchers - giving each one about 12 hours of rigorous beating.
I looked at the pro paid versions of Apex, Nova, Next, Go, SPB, and TSF as well as several free/trial versions of a few others I quickly uninstalled and deleted. In each case I downloaded everything there was available from the developer /for/ the launcher in question as well as 8 or 10 of the top rated themes (which also happened to appeal to me). I literally spent every waking hour of an 8 or 9 consecutive day period doing nothing but installing Launchers, setting up any and all widgets made specifically for them (or my own 3rd party favorites to fill any holes), populating home-panels, checking out icon packs, and learning & getting used to the specialties offered by each. I did this all in 4.4.2 (KitKat) on the 7" screen of my Sharp SH-06F.
I agree with @imwillzillla about the difference between Nova and Next. They are completely different types of products even though they are both Launchers. Or maybe I should say they each appeal to a totally different kind of user. If I were to compare them directly I would need use subjective and flowery language- maybe something like:
Nova is everything you think your phone should have shipped with...
Next is allot of what you dream your phone will be like in the future...
Personally I like futuristic dazzle (being a retired CG artist) so Next was totally my cup of tea! Man that thing rocks! But I dunno if I would be using it to manage a company or as my daily scheduler if I were a corporate CEO - although... Next actually gives you (essentially) two launchers for the price of one and the 2D one would work fine for a "salaryman" (maybe "business jock" in western vernacular?).
I didn't really care for Nova as much as the TSF, Go, or Apex Launchers. Nova felt ummm, a bit antiquated maybe. None of these /launchers/ noticeably eat battery power more or less than the others - but some of the widgets sure do. For example the Next Music Player has a full screen widget which when the "Gravity" feature is turned on is like something out of "Alice In Wonderland" - you almost want to reach into and behind the graphics it's so parallaxically (my new word) convincing! Leaving that widget displayed with the screen set to 100% brightness and screen Sleep turned completely OFF cut my battery life to 12 hours. Displaying a different home panel with "Gravity" turned off it lasts about 16 hours. Setting the screen to Sleep in 5min and using the phone only 5 or 10 times in a day it lasts about 50 hours. As an MP3 player using the Next Player without the widget in my back pocket or on my desk the battery lasts juuuust 60 hours.
- That's all with WiFi on, BlueTooth off, GPS off, and using wired headphones or a cable to my HiFi rig (no phone internal speakers).

Hi Paul,
The answer to you first question depends what is you want and expect from the launcher. Pretty much all of them are improvements over what the S5 ships with. Most of them offer things like custom folders, multi-select, different wipes, and alternative icon sets. With a few of them I have found that you can install their custom icon sets, then uninstall the launcher and the custom icon remain - so there may be generic custom icon packs which work on any or most launchers - including the default ones your phone came with.
Some of the better launchers embed a video presentation of their launcher in action directly into their play-store download page which is a pretty good way of guessing at whether or not you might wanna try that particular one. If the Launcher's DL page doesn't have a video then YouTube usually does. In my case I used both resources and and watched at lease 30min. of video in total of each before I went for the install action. You can see from the above post which ones I went for after that initial research step. After purchasing and installing six different launchers and all of their associated proprietary widgets & etc. I found the Next 3D Shell Launcher to be the best fit for me. Configured like a wildman it's pretty over the top. I wanted a launcher that had all the bells and whistles AND impressed the heck out of whoever might be looking on - including me. A conversation starter if you will. In that regard Next Launcher delivers in spades! My phone is about 2/3 the speed of yours or even slightly less and Next is very smooth on it. But anyway, that's what I wanted out of it - you may have a completely different set of expectations and desires so you need to ask yourself.
Feel free to ask me any questions about any of the ones I listed above. It might take me a few days to see and answer the question but I'll be happy to do so.
On your second question it seems that there is no dependency on a particular ROM by any given Launcher - they all just work. Some require a specific minimum version of Android but the S5 I believe is installed with the very newest Android version so no problems for you there. A few launchers have some functions available only if Root access is available so rooting your S5 might be a consideration if you want or need those functions. The ones I noticed weren't of any significant advantage so I didn't look into rooting my device. And lastly some Launchers have some trouble with some specific phone models. For example there used to be problems with Next on a few of the Samsung phones but that's been addressed already - etc..
One thing to really look into IMO is how much free stuff there is available for the specific launcher and how much requires payment - and I don't really mean icon sets and themes as much as I do custom widgets or tools etc. which are designed to work exclusively with the Launcher in question. If you click on the company name of the developer for the Launcher you're interested in (at the playstore) - that usually calls up a list of items that will tell you what you want to know here.
L8r, again, feel free to ask anything and have fun trying stuff out!
Can we add labels to the dock apps and add extra rows and columns like Nova Launcher?

Yes you can , I haven't found anything next 3d couldn't do . Plus there are hundreds of themes and widgets t choose from and most are free . I couldn't go back to using my phone without it , I had to wipe everything and my phone wasn't the same without it.
