Which would you recommend for me? - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a new SE Xperia x8 and I obviously want to upgrade from Android 2.1. Which would you recommend to me as being the most compatible and stable with new apps.
I do know how to install them but I am wondering whether I should install MiniCM7 Android 2.3.5 or GingerDX 2.3.5. I have heard MiniCM7 is more stable and has more features than GingerDX but as I am a noob which would you recommend?
Thanks

Just wondering if someone can help me!

Hello I would recommend you gingerDX cause i am using it and it completly stable only problem i have is with wifi

Nah, GingerCruzt is faster!

GingerDX V013 ! Wat the creator, daioxanh has done with this rom is he has removed all the useless crap no one really needs, thus freeing a total of 99 ram, the maximun amount. Its really fast and smooth

Depends on what u do on your phone. Do you often play games, use wifi for browsing the net, editing the theme of your phone, etc.?

Gingercruzt for the win!

I would recommend gingerDX too. its a good mixed rom for all...
Facebook, games, sms, musik etc...
Im using v17 and im very happy with it :-D

Stock ROM 2.1-update-1 : Very stable but less features
Froyobread 2.2.9 : Most stable custom ROM
GingerDX 2.3.7 : Stable CM7 ROM
LinuxDX Kernels : Kernels For X8 look at features fore more information

Its all up to you coz everyone like others roms...so try couple of them and decide.which one is better for you....

Gingerxperia v8 is the greatest gaming rom if you likes to play games a lot
If you want most stable rom for daily us i would recommend gingerdx

As you've noticed a lot of the suggestions involves loading up a Gingerbread derivative that a lot of the others before me have touted as stable and would say wifi doesn't work or camera video no record etc, . I use GingerXperia V8 myself.
But since you've admittedly are a Noob to the X8 scene, I would suggest one of the favors of FROYO or Android 2.2. since everyone would agree that it has the most mature of the current X8 ROM's. And a good way to introduce you to the world of X8 modding.
Check out the links below for a guide to X8 ROMs and Rooting.

Link below is froyobread, which is my choice of FROYO:

Gingerxperia v08 is the best!
Before this i tried many rom like Floyo, Froyobread, GingerDX.
But other rom cannot fight with Gingerxperia!
More smooth, more fast, less lag.
Floyo rom no more update.
Froyobread rom already final BUT always reboot auto.
GingerDX rom not smooth and still under develop.
So, gingerxperia WIN!

First try GingerDx(last version). If you dont have battery drain problem stick to it.It's the best.If you are unlucky like me and your battery drain fast try FroyoBread 023b.

gingercruzt or gingerxperia

Which of these is the fastest? i have tried gingerdx but i installed gingerxperia and it is faster, so, is gingercruzt faster then gingerxperia? thanks.
well the latest gingerdx 015 is very fast ,, so is v014,, but amongst those two roms gingercruzt is better for me,, however neither has as much features or a huge community of people using gdx,,,
ps: you need to tweak gdx a bit to make it fast,, Mini cm7 is also an amazing rom,,, you can try it,,

i think the first version of FD Experience is the best ROM that i've used so far... its very stable and fast... also a good battery life!
gingercruzt faster...free ram i get now 90MB
Gingercrutz is awesome maybe even better than gingerdx, but there some bugs that annoying me, like arc launcher sometimes is so slow and autobrightness is not working at all, there is some other bugs which i cant remember right now, but at the end i think that this is maybe the best custom rom for x8 at this time

[Q] Ginger DX or Ginger Xperia

As per the custom Roms for x8, GingerDX by Doixanh is good or GingerXperia by XperiaFan13??
Or any other best roms for 2.3.?
Sorry for my bad english
Well it's all up to you. I'm using GingerDX and I'm satisfied with it. Haven't used Gingerxperia though.
Yap, there are tons of "What ROM" threads around you can dig up and read through.
In general it's way better to test the ROMs you've taken interest in yourself. People have different expectations, so it's really a matter of "taste".
I always used doixanh's custom ROMs because he always created the most stable and feature complete ones - at least in my experience. That being said, keep in mind that no custom ROM is 100% perfect and that different ROMs can cause different problems with the one or another app.
If GingerDX and GingerXperia are the ROMs you fancy then simply grab a copy and use each one for a few days ... in the end you will see which one fits your usage.
Ginger dx
it is the GOD of all roms in this forum (for x8)

How do you mean heavy for x8. I have GingerDx on stock kernel. It works smooth and very fast. The only bug is in the QuickPic app..you cant scroll the first time you use the app.
Also I got awesome performance. And im overclocking on 710mhz and its very stable!
After using GingerDX for some months I came back to Shpit's XGin ROM (wich is being continued after some time). It's the fastest one, and it's very stable for overclocks. Plus, I was having some serious problems with phone stucking, sending large SMS messages and wi-FI bugs in GingerDX.
BTW, GingerDX is still a great ROM.

Yeh You're right mate. i also used the GingerDX from Doxinah. it's pretty good rom. but now i changed to ginger xperia because of the OC performance. Up to 820mhz that's truly awesome ... but i like GingerDX and Ginger Xperia.
Ginger DX is the first ROM that i installed in my W8, and its awesome with lots of features. However you will have to manually tweak for pinch to zoom and Timescape. Now i am using GingerXperia, its really awesome and fast, Pinch to Zoom and Timescape work too good.. Timescape is like just in Xperia mini pro. It looks beautiful. You can over clock your CPU which is an added feature in this ROM. I have put some pics of GingerXperia, hope it helps.
Yeah!! I also tried both of the Roms..and also I have W8...But I installed Ginger DX and also works smoothly..
GingerDX faster than gingerxperia on Alfv6 kernel but GingerXperia have more ram and more tweak(bravia engine, xloud...)
You'd make the chose
But i am not sure if my kernel is Alfv6 or not??how could I check that and if it is not how can i change it to Alfv6 kernel??Please help
And Also where can I get flashtool for my w8 so that I can Flash the files.(I read many posts and it was said that you need to flash the downloaded files by using flashtool).

If you unlock your bootloader and change the kernel you should be aware of what kernel you are installing before you do it.
Otherwise "Settings" -> "About phone" gives you info about you current rom and kernel.
Alf kernel thread is here btw.

Here is the X8 thread for Flashtool with a link to Flashtool's homepage. Unsure if Flashtool works on W8 since I have a X8. But since it officially support X10, X10mini (pro) and X8, i seems unlikely that it shouldn't.

Best ROM for nAa kernel???

Good Evening guys...
Wanna ask, what's the best ROM for nAa-11 now in your opinion? I used GingerXperiaRay V004 before, but then cannot change the default launcher (360 launcher). Then I try Xperience V4.0, but when I install widgets, it doesn't show in widget option. Are there any suggest for better ROMs than these? With overall functions of course As for now I still use Xperience ROM but already back-up both ROMs. How about ROMs based on Cyanogenmod 9? Any recommended ROM available now?
I was testing GingerXperiaRay V004 for some time too and I could change launcher without any problems Don't know why You can not.
From very long time I'm using iROM. First was iROM v004 on top of nAa kernel 8b and 9. But know I'm using iROM v005 on top of nAa 11. It's MiniCM7 2.1.9 ROM with better look and some changes. For me it's great
Of course it's MiniCM7-2.1.9 download it from the official site for cm

or [ROM] LinuXperia Escha Arch V7

+1 for Achotjan Semc Debrand Engine
Although there are some bugs:
1) USSD not working, but when you install the "fix", then messages are not working (this is what happen to my gf X8)
2) wi-fi tethering (I don't use it and I didn't tested it, although there is a fix for that too)
3) FOR SOME: wifi. I said "for some" because I think it's working afterall but many people might have done the same mistake like I did. After installing the rom, wifi was working ok, but I noticed Android system taking more than 50% of the battery, so I wiped the battery stats and the wifi stopped working (this means that you can connect to the network, but you cannot browse the web, it will not load any pages, etc). Now, after reinstalling the rom again (maybe the 4-5th time), wifi is ok but still no fix for USSD AND messages (together).
Xperience v5 deodexed
Hi all,
My personal favorite has to be Xperience v5 deodexed..
It's fast, very fast.. Games are far smoother than any other rom i've tried..
AndroVDR works perfectly so I can stream my livetv and satellite to the phone..
Calls are clear, wifi great, data great.. I must say I'm impressed with the quality compared to previous versions which i found to be really slow and clunky..
There are some great roms here, I've tried nearly all of them, but a few stand out above the others.. Xperience v5, PrimeHD, CM7 2.1.9 and S-Rom..
These, in my opinion, are the best roms for the nAa kernel..
For the best experience with ANY rom start with a clean sd card..
Have fun,
CtrlAltDel
i belive xper v5 best for naa kernel
In my opinion would say minicm 2.1.9 always fast never laggy and good gaming

[Q] Which rom is the stablest and fastest? 2.2 or 2.3 is better

Hi, this is my first post.
I'm currently using gingerxperience. This is a beautiful rom. However,it is a bit unstable. I want to ask that which android rom is better running on x8. Is 2.2 better than 2.3? Can you suggest some 2.2 rom or 2.3 rom? I'm sorry with my poor English.
GingerDX and miniCM7 are both good and a stable ROM in my opinion. And using SWAP and overclocking your phone is a good method to create higher performance and make a smoother phone.

[Q] Fastest ROM

Hi everyone!
I'm currently using the latest version of GingerDX in my X8, and although is nice and works fine, it can be really slow, with a lot of lag when trying to open a contact, send a message or place a call.
My question is, of all the ROMS going around, which one you would say is the fastest?
Keep in mind that I can't install another kernel, because my phone is too new (the 11W29 thing).
Thanks a lot!
Try some different ROMs and look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422143
the fastest rom depends on ur needs.
Try gdx v22 for me worked very good with better scores than v28
