what are the necessary files to keep on the sd card?
im running low on space on my 16gb and dont really know what to delete...
or alternatively, what can i do to create more space on the card...
it wont take any more roms casue theres no room1
You only need what you personally put on the card.. pics, music, etc. If you have moved any apps to the card you will need to keep that file too, and any backups that you have. All the system files will be created as needed by Android.
I uploaded all my music onto Google music, and then deleted most of my music off my SD card. Cleared up around 8 GB. You can do the same with photos, too. Put them on Picasa, Flickr, Facebook, whatever. (not sure if there's a good solution for videos besides YouTube. And I think that would just be inconvenient.)
Little things like that can help clean your storage space up.
Also, wrong section.

I'm debating on whether to get a 1GB SD card or a smaller size. Besides the obvious such as watching movies and storing MP3s.
What eslse do you guys do with your 1GB SD card?
dumping maps on it for tomtom for instance
Install my games, MP3, movies to it.
I have favourite cab files, mp3, movies and audiobooks on mine.
Sooner or later you will fill the 1GB card.
You can never have enough memory!
gps gps gps
maps + maps + maps + maps
or something widh is not larger than 1gb

Besides the fact that you're off topic, I think it's important to keep this forum free from political statements.
Loads of stuff goes on the card. Believe me if you buy smaller, you'll regret it. Go for the 1GB.
TomeRaider and Wikipedia, which takes up over 500 Kb. I love being able to carry the entire wikipedia with me wherever I go!
Even 1GB is tight.
You have to watch which pictures/which maps/which MP3s/which books you install.
It's no Free-For-All!
With 1GB, you have manage your memory carefully.
It's not like the old days!
Depending on what you're storing. I have my MP3s, movies, data files (pocket word, Excel, PDFs, pictures).
I'd agree xda-rocks -> you can never have enough memory.
If you can wait .. when the prices drop, pick up a 2GB.. or 1GB x2. Either way, i only had my 1GB card for 3 weeks, running out of space already
movies... songs... all sort of stuff...
storage and memory are never enuff
ebooks.... thousands of ebooks
and music, and pictures. i have the camera save all the pictures and video to the gig card
Well hell, IF I had a 1gig storage card, I would use it to store 3 days of backups, that would round to about 180mb. then use the rest for movies, music, and file sharing when I have my webserver running on my BA at the hot spot.
PS. if you get a card that large, invest in a usb card reader on your main computer. Makes life that much easier.
cheers
how do you organize it all? is there a program you use to organize the program installations?
i use it first to store 3 backup files (3 weeks' worth), a whole bunch of movies, games, data files, and programs. have to agree, you can't have enough memory =)
the backup files really are essential. and i usually make sure i have at least 2 of them on hand, in case the latest one is unstable.
somynex =)
I have a 1GB 66x SD card, with the i-mate ROM update and WMP10. I now sync to "Napster To Go" and have a great little media center.
Also store TomTom maps, all additional software is installed to the SDcard too.
As soon as I find a 2GB 66x card, i'll get one of those.
I have recently got a 2G card with my Navigon 5 Update
So I store normally a 250Mb Card of Germany, now for Holidays I stored a 1Gig card of Europe on it, removed some MP3s and of course have 3 or 4 Weeks of Weekly Fullbackups (sprite backup) on it.
So I have normally over 1Gig of MP3s on it , one map for navigon and some games and my backups...
Any reason to do this? Seems like the device is loaded with GBs so what are the pros & cons?
I feel like the biggest benefit would be to people flashing their phones a lot... No need to make back ups as they would all be on the external sd card. However, not all apps support this feature so i have never really tried it...

I like to have as much space as possible available so I can take long videos and lots of pics. Since I have a 32gb external card, I can keep all my music and movies on it and save my internal sd card for things I actually do with the phone.
So I'm still confused..what does "save to SD card" mean? Does the app and all it's data go to the external SD, or to the internal SD? Weird stuff..maybe it frees up the phone partition of the internal SD?
hi,
is there any chance to see the specific usage of the storage in the system.
I copied a folder onto my phone with 11gb but deleted it again and there where already broken links in pictures music and videos.
Now i have 2.39 GB of "other" storage and i dont know where this is coming from.
Apps is 611MB music 89 and videos 90.. system 1.91gb
is this 2.39 something apps and browser put there or should they count into apps. and where do my 2 nokia maps downloads count in?
in the explorer i only can see pictures and video that is right.
music is only my music pass files without downloads
Reported as dup of thread in Lumia 920 Q&A forum.
The word is this is flexible storage that Windows Phone uses. This is larger than it needs because your not using the space. it will compress if you need the space..
Hi there,
I am new to this forum and this is my first time posting! I have the ATT samsung galaxy S5 and I am rooted but running the stock ROM. I am relatively new to android and this is my first one after three years of having iphones. Anyway, I just got a 32gb microSD card but I am having some problems making it work with the camera. Before I put the SD card in, I had several folders in my camera, such as videos, camera, screenshots, snapchat, transferred from my iphone, etc... When I transferred from my iphone, a lot of the pictures were out of order but I learned to deal with it. When I put my SD card in, all of the folders mushed together with all my videos on the top and everything out of order. Now I just have one folder called externalSDcard and one called "camera" where new pictures are stored and one called picassa. Im not even sure if they are folders or albums! How do I restore everything to how it was before but keep it all on the SD card?
HELP!
Nothing? Really?
Really the only thing you can do I believe is put the pics on your computer and then format your SD card then put them back on in their appropriate folder. Pics go in the pictures folder and mpegs go in movies folder. Hope you figure it out.

Android will scan your phone for media files and will show all in the gallery. Now in the gallery you can create albums then drag and drop pictuers or videos into them. Also the camera folder must reside in the DCIM folder.

Exactly, the file structure on your SD card hasn't changed, but gallery app is organizing them the way it wants. What's even better is if you are storing camera pictures on SD card after having stored some on internal memory, now you have two "Camera" items shown in your gallery.
Picasa, by the way, is any pictures you've stored in picasaweb (which may be "none").
You might find a different picture viewing app more to your liking. I've always liked quickpic and now it supports viewing picasa pics as well, which was one of the only reasons to use the stock Gallery. And it's free.
The only remaining reason I have to use the stock Gallery is for those "shot & more" pictures I still want to edit (but that comes with a big bug of its own).
Thanks
Thanks so much for your help! I think I am getting things sorted out. For some reason though when I move the picture around or make any kind of changes, it changes the date from the day it was taken to when I last changed the location. I think that is why all the videos are on the top. Is there anyway to change that back? Also Im not a big fan of the gallery app so I think I'll try quickpick! Ill let you know how it goes!
I think i have never noticed before, as this is the first device i have not rooted or installed a CR.
But i have noticed on large games with large OBB files, when moved to the SD, the OBB file stays on the internal storage, and only the apk file itself moves to the SD Card, things like game settings etc.
So it kinda makes it abit pointless having a SD Card apart form Photos, Movies and Music.
My 64GB Card has become redundant until i root / xposed it.
Anyone else noticed this, or found a work around, They removed adoptable storage didnt they?
working as intended.
it's one of Google's strangest choices, to not include what's typically the largest file in the "move to SD" option.
something you could do is manually move all your obb files to the sdcard, and then move them back temporarily when you need them.
or keep less large games on your phone.

Its BS that they still can't manage to do this in 2019..
My tablet has 32GB and I bought a 256GB MicroSD for this to store games. But it's pretty much useless..
I should of went with an iPad........
