[MOD] Zipalign Any ROM at Boot - Flash This CWM - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development

I put took an init.d script from the Darky ROM and included it in this CWM update along with the zipalign tool. The script will run at boot and zipalign all apps, both system and user. As always I am not responsible for any bad stuff that might happen as a result of flashing this update...you know the drill, so please have a nandroid restore available in case something goes wrong.

What is the benefit of doing this every boot up?

It is smart and will not re-zipalign, it tracks what has been already been zipaligned. If you install new apps it will make sure they too are zipaligned. Any time you want to make sure that everything, even updated apps are zipaligned you can delete /data/zipalign.db and it will recheck everything. That file is where it tracks what has already been zipaligned.
StarBust uses this same script if I am not mistaken.

thanks for this mod. on a oc 1.4 rom, score was 2600, now 2900, hope it is not my fantancy... hehe.

Thanks men, that changes a lot!

This is great thank you. I imagine devs will begin to build this into thier ROM's shortly.

How can I apply this? Is this for P7500?

I just applied it on my 7500. It's a flashable cwm file as stated in op.
Just flash it from recovery that is.

U mean enter CWM and go to Flash update, then select above .zip folder and that's all?
I just don't want to ruin my tablet...

Is there a way to check if the zipalign worked? I cant find the db in /data
Has it not worked then?

Edit. I have forgotten to install busybox. Works fine now.

Yes i just did that.
But do a backup first.
But I'm not sure if it worked or not. Wait a bit until someone answers my question here above if you are worried.

Install busybox from market first. I installed Busybox installer by JRummy16. The one from Stephen did not work on my device?
Flash the zip from cwm and then reboot. Check in /data if you have zipalign.db and zialign.log then the script has run.
Note that if you are running a custom rom it's probably already zipalign.

so where did my notification bar disappear ?

take a look at the zipalign log in /data lets see if there was sole sort of error in the script execution

i restored the backup, so forget it

Can i run this on already zipaligned rom to align my downloaded apps?
Or does it break something on a already zipalign rom?
Or is it bad in some other way?

which ROM? Most that I have inspected are running the same script at boot.

I'm using Task's Rom. after flashed your script, my status bar is gone

I will take a look at his ROM. I suspect that he has init.d support implemented differently than I did and that this is causing the init.d scripts to be run twice. What files do you see in /system/etc/init.d?
Update: So I checked his ROM...this is already part of his ROM, so no need to flash this MOD on top of Task's ROM.

Yes, use Revotoolkit to install recovery. After installing, hit the check recovery version, it should be 4.0.0.2 or something like that. Then reboot into recovery.

if you were a good boy and have a factory stock rooted CWM backup, then you don't have to... if you don't have one of these, then it seems as if you would... although you may be able to grab cubed's stock factory rooted rom that I think is floating around in a thread... maybe
No .tot needed. Just need to grab the stocked rooted backup off the forums from cubed. Restore that, wipe data, uninstall cwm pull both updates wipe data, and internal for safe measure, then reroot using mt's root method. He has everything you need in his post.

I have backups going all the way back, but I wouldn't have one of stock recovery (making a backup of a recovery with a recovery that wasn't installed would be hard). I was involved in the original piecing together of CWR, so I have all the original partitions, but some of those copies caused bricks, and I'm not sure which ones :O

Same as with majorpay
Only think is the cubes stock restore doesn't have everything. I wiped data and cache and dalvik and it booted right up. I installed revo toolkit and go the stock recovery from there. the pulled the OTA updates. When rerooting I wiped data and the internal storage went right through once I got the right drivers.

New Update - Flash via CWM and keep root/recovery intact

Google just came out with a new update (JRO03D). Using the following method, you can apply it to your Nexus 7 and keep CWM and root.
Pre-requisites: Stock JRO03C Build. CWM Recovery. Root. NO CUSTOM ROMS. NO CUSTOM BUILD.PROP.
Step #1 - Backup your su app (root) with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
Step #2 - Download http://core.routed.com/update.zip and put it in your /sdcard
Step #3 - Install update.zip via CWM.
Step #4 - Reboot tablet, and restore root via Voodoo.
Step #5 - Enjoy latest Google update!
My earlier version tried to keep the 'su' file suid-exec root, but that seemed to have caused failures for people, so I took that part out. I'll look into why in the morning. But for now, the above steps do work fine.
IF YOU TRIED MY EARLIER VERSION AND IT FAILED AT THE UPDATING OF PERMISSIONS, BACKUP ROOT AND INSTALL THIS FILE: http://core.routed.com/fix.zip
Thanks.
I think I should point out that this would probably not be a good idea to flash if you are using a custom ROM, since it's a bunch of patch files to the various applications on the device, which might differ depending on the ROM you are using. It should only be used on the stock ROM (outside of custom recovery and/or root).
It didn't work for me, and it aborted. Now my WiFi doesn't work and I dong know hot to fix it. I'll try in the morning.

Where did it fail? I installed it on mine (prior to posting this) and it worked perfectly. If it failed at the very beginning, you probably had validation enabled. Try disabling it and reapplying the update.
ALSO, make sure you had already applied the first update! The one that should have popped up when you first powered the device on. The above update I made is for the SECOND one, not the first. ie: JRO03C -> JRO03D. If yours is not the former, do not apply this, as the patching could fail.
I do not know. Do you think its because I have a custom kernel?

Possibly, but I don't think so. This doesn't change the kernel, only update a bunch of system apks, libraries and a few other files. Do you remember how far it got before it failed? It should have given a step-by-step update in the CWM logs:
ui_print("Verifying current system...");
ui_print("Removing unneeded files...");
ui_print("Patching system files...");
ui_print("Unpacking new files...");
ui_print("NOT Unpacking new recovery...");
ui_print("Symlinks and permissions...");
ui_print("Patching remaining system files...");

Ok, I figured out the problem. Here is the fix for you:
First, make a backup of your root. Use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper.
Then, apply this via CWM:
http://core.routed.com/fix.zip
That will fix your permissions and wifi should work now. I'm going to update the OP now .

Hey guys, I'm about to go through rooting my Nexus 7. Its my first root, hell this is my first android tablet. What changes should i make, if any, based on the info in this thread, to the "How to Root Your Nexus 7 For idiots who have never Rooted anything before and have never owned a Android device before July 13th and want to be sure they do it properly without screwing anything up and keeping their files intact Guide 2.0" that i am hoping to find somewhere on this site (feel free to give suggestions for this as well but im pretty sure i saw a good thread). Ive already updated to the second 4.1.1 update today. thanks
Thanks for the files and easy instructions. :good:
Just a note if you modified your build.prop to enable the table UI you must restore your original for this to work.
The first time I tried it failed due to the build.prop differences. I quickly restored my original and reapplied with no issues.

[Q] restoring stock recovery

My brother (being the idiot he is) decided to take it upon himself to root my htc one (unlocked Australian model). Now I have a custom recovery installed and so can't install the recently available 4.2.2 update. Is there either a way to install this update, or a way to flash back the original recovery so that I can install it?
Both yes. You can download the original recovery.img and flash it via fastboot. but now that you can flash zips why not try a ROM from XDA devs. Most are very stock with some extra features.

No need for anything else like the cmd on pc or anything? Seems rather simple is all, just want to make sure I'm understanding it right. Will be the first time flashing a custom Rom is all.

Since you already have a custom recovery, then yes it is as easy as installing the zip. Its always safer to make a nandroid backup first however, so choose the backup option in your recovery, and save that file to your computer, then you can easily flash the custom ROM.

Well I have Rom manager installed which does the same thing I believe, so I'll be sure to make a backup beforehand.
