[Q] XXJVS Bootloader with CM7 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Currently, I have GB bootloader with lastest CM7 nightly 104#.
1. I was wondering if flashing XXJVS would install a newer or updated GB bootloader.
2. Is there a tool to compare bootloaders before flashing?
Thanks

Not much difference between all GB bootloaders. Only Froyo and GB differ more

From Gingerbread to Froyo

i install the jvk rom with the bootloader but now i want to install miui.To do that i have to be at froyo.Am i have to downgrade my bootloader for froyo and which versions of froyo have bootloader?
No mate, you should be able to flash your desired rom as it's compatible downward. Use Odin, or flash a kernel with CWM and do it that way
But if you find it more comfortable that way, XXJPU and ZSJPG roms have bootloaders as far as i know on samfirmware.com.
thanks man.
i am going to flash EZbase as the base rom.

[Q] Bootloader jvb and old 2.2.1

if i update bootloader with jvb ones and after i want to flash back a 2.2.1 they are retro-compatible? or i need to reflash all 2 bootloader?
Yes, you can go back to any 2.2 or 2.1 rom with the new bootloader in 2.3.3

Question about bootloaders

When a rom says to use i897 gb bootloaders (aka AT&T bootloaders), I shouldnt have any issue of instead using the i896 gb bootloaders (aka Rogers bootloaders) right?
No, you shouldn't. My phone personally has been running i9000 GB bootloaders since GB first leaked, and I haven't bothered to change back to i897 ones. Everything still works flawlessly.
Great thanks.

GB Firmware

Hi. I have my SGSII which is really easy to modify and install firmwares and ROMs, but my fathers X8 is messed up. All I could find is ROMs but not firmwares for download. I can't install 2.3 ROM on 2.1 fw, right?; At least not on SGSII, so where can I dl GB firmware?
Maybe I'm stupid, but what's the difference between ROM and firmware? SE doesn't support x8 any more and left xperia owners with official Eclair 2.1 ROM, so all You are able to do is root Your father device, install recovery and flash a ZIP file which include GB 2.3 ROM for stock kernel (Like GingerDx f. eg.).... OR unlock bootloader (if You can of course, manufacture date here is important), flash custom kernel and than flash custom ROM (like GB MiniCM7 or iCS MiniCM9).
Well while I was reading on SGSII subforum tips I saw that you cannot flash ICS rom on Android 2.3, you have to install first ICS firmware, then flash ICS ROM.
Thanks I will try flashing GB ROM.

[Q] Is this bootloader information correct?

[UPDATED]
Bootloaders...
1. i9000 was launched with Éclair so the bootloader was of course an Éclair bootloader?
My answer: Yes (Or a Froyo one... before Froyo came out).
2. People who upgraded to Gingerbread from Éclair without upgrading via Kies had to flash a Gingerbread bootloader via Odin?
My answer: Yes, unless flashing different rom complete with a bootloader.
3. Flashing ANY rom wont change the bootloader? Like CyanogenMod.
My answer: No, some rom's do come complete with a bootloader like stock or stock based ones. But CyanogenMod does not.
4. I'm running CM9... does that mean I have an Ice Cream Sandwich bootloader now?
My answer: No, the Gingerbread bootloader is more than capable.
Are my own answers correct?
I'm so confused by different things I've read off the net... please please someone put my mind to rest! I'm writing a few BIG guides and kinda came unstuck when I got to this subject lol.

No cyanogenmod packages come with bootloaders. I don't think that cwm will flash them. I think you need Odin or Heimdall to flash bootloaders. Unless you flashed a package that had bootloaders, you should still be on gb bootloaders, which work for just about everything.

1. Idk that was along time ago lol
2. If you update with Odin factory images, it always contains the boot loader.
3/4. Flashing custom ROMs use the gingerbread bootloader, and do not change it ever.
