I wasnt satisfied with 1024x600p resolution the icons were huge so i rooted my tab with z4 and ive installed LCD Density .. and im keeping my tab at 200dpi (not to big but not to low either).
I have a question .. will this drain my battery faster cause ive noticed my battery lasts less in the last 2 days.. or is it just my 3G connection (im on Froyo 2.2 XWJJ3 default stock rom).
Changing your lcd density will not effect your battery

I like mine at 175, but my question is- will lowering LCD density have an affect on how the android market detects app compatibility? There seems to be yes answers and no answers I'm very confused...

This is my second tablet device that I have changed the density for and it doesnt seem to affect any app compatibility.
Whenever I set 200 density, market doesnt show me many apps that I have downloaded for free and paid in "My Apps". It also doesnt let me update the apps that are not shown.
For a little while now I've had my density set back to 240. I also had some app update issues when the density was changed. Appbrain would often show apps that had updates available that didn't show up as updateable when I looked in the market. And although appbrain said there were updates the apps wouldn't update.
Haven't had any such problems with my density set back to 240.

Changing your density will only affect apps and games that are not compatible with the density that you change to. When I change my density to 200, which is my ideal resolution, I have 5 games that do not run and their icons show up as a green and while box with the android logo in the middle of the box, they also do not show up in the my apps list in the market. When I change back to the original density of 240 everything works as normal, all 5 apps run and their icons come back as they should and they also show back up in the my apps list in the market.

Hmm. I run 180 and I have never seen any of that behavior.

I envy all you people running at < 240 dpi. My eyes' lenses got EDoF like a fu**n' cheap phone optics

Funny how this doesn't affect everyone. But it affects a lot of us, thank you very much for a bit of clarity!

Does the camera work when set at 180? Mine doesn't work on anything below 200
182 was the lowest I could get and have the camera work.
I just tried 182 and it works now on mine.

Is there a way to change the density but keep the font size unchanged? Thanks

No, changing the density is changing the resolution. Everything gets smaller or larger at the same rate.

I have problem with this app, because when I change resolution to 90 or 100 then notification and many apps dont wanna work .

It is not a issue with this app.
Issue are in the apps that not work with that lcd density.
Not matter what app you use, personaly i don't use a app for change lcd density,i just edit build.prop manualy.
I try to edit manually like you but i got the same situation ...

Oh ,lol i told the same think, the issue is not with lcd density change, the issue is with apps that does not support this low lcd density.
Not matter what method you use ,if you change lcd density ,some apps does not support this low density, and is nothing that you can do about. The solution is to let original lcd density to 120.
Love my Galaxy Note, but wish I could fit more onto my massive screen at times. On other devices such as the Nexus 7, changing the DPI will enable a tablet UI? Is this the same on the Note, so if I were to root and change to a lower DPI will tablet apps run?
Is it safe to do this, or will it ruin pre-built in apps such as S-Memo and the dialer/other phone apps?

I don't want to change ROMs, as I need the Samsung S-Pen apps. I like their functionality and use them to map out homework and my day-to-day schedule. Can't lose them. Nope, just wondering if changing the DPI would enable tablet UI and have it work properly. If not, then I won't bother. Not too worried, just would be a nice thing to have if possible to do!
Changing dpi won't turn your phone into a tablet it will just simply make things smaller so you can fit more on the screen

You can change your phone to tablet mode with any kernel/ROM. Can't remember the details but a quick search in Q&A and DEV should throw up the hack.

Tablet mode is 213 dpi and lower. It will work on stock gb roms, but has been disabled on stock ics.

U hv to flash a rom tht supports tablet mode. Such as paranoid android. Or AOKP. Set DPI TO 213 OR LOWER AND TABLET APPLICATIONS WILL RUN SMOOTHLY..
u ll lose s-pen but u can install papyrus for the same functionality as s-pen have..

Does it lower the resolution at all in landscape?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
guess i should say by changing the dpi.
Try it out. You only need to change one value and if you don't like it you can change it back.

lowering the dpi, increases the resolution, lowering the DPI on my htc velocity for example can increase it's resolution to 1080p, which is ridiculous but also awesome.
lowering the dpi and increasing the resolution can make some apps break as they are not written to take advantage of all possible resolutions.
OK thanks right now I have the DPI set to 160 and everything looks great in landscape just have to get used to it after using it only in portrait on the home screen for the last week lol.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
that being said it doesn't actually lower the dpi, this sort of setting is basically lying to the operating system to make it pretend that the dpi is lower and make everything smaller, it doesn't actually change the resolution of the screen.
i keep seeing threads that say thats its 182 or 240... whats the real one that will make the phone just like it was before?
and does the dpi effect somehow on the battary or speed?
240 is default. No and no. But it may lead to crashes on some apps.
Sent from my Gameboy Color
240dpi is the default, changing it might CIA crashes depending on the ROM you ate using.

The DPI of the display is how many physical pixels there are in one inch square of the phones screen, software cannot change this.
There may be software that could possibly force the phone to use a lower resolution, but i'm not sure why you would want that.

I got bricked after using an app.
If you're rooted you can edit the build.prop yourself, or use Xposed to control each app separately.
