I have tried everything I can think of short of the FastBoot restore to get the stock browser re-installed. I made a Titanium backup thinking that would help. I downloaded the file from the first page of this thread, moved it into system/app and changed permissions using Root Explorer, and rebooted with no results. This has worked for other apps for me, but I cannot get the browser to re-install. I moved and changed permissions for the odex file as well. I really want to get this installed to get my voice search working again and I don't want to have to start over with everything if I don't have to. Does anyone have any ideas? I have searched everywhere. I have not tried ADB yet because it isn't installed and set up on my new computer and I'm not that comfortable with it yet, but I'd rather do that then do a complete restore.

have you tried unrooting and rerooting? i had some isues of my own and that worked for me. its worth a try. better than a reset
Thanks for the suggestion. I finally managed to boot loop it and was forced to RSD it and reroot. Wasn't all that bad. Everything seems to be working now. Won't be uninstalling anything else, just freezing for me.

hey guys this is my first post. I have known about this website for a long time. i am a huge fan. I am having some trouble with my droid 3. I have used the v7 one click root and it worked like an absolute charm. i loved it. i highly recommend it for new d3 users. Only problem is my DA sister was messing with my phone right when the new update went out for them. lets just say.. she updated it. i had absolutely no idea until i tried to access root permissions and it did not work. i had titanium backup running too so my apps are frozen but my phone is not rooted anymore? i cant access anything. i tried to re-root my phone but it says adb is not recognized as an internal or external command or something like that. I dont know if i have to reset my entire phone? or what. Ive tried everything and nothing is working. If this is not the proper forum to ask this question i apologize ahead for this is my first forum like i said. I have absolutely no idea what to do. i am very stuck. Anything can help guys thank you.
if you had so any apps frozen I'm surprised the update went through. Lol the one click root should work for you though. I guess if you've tried everything an sbf with the .890 file is guaranteed to solve your problems and you will be able to reroot just as you've done before. Just check if your drivers are still a-ok
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
thanks
i re-installed new drivers even tho i was pretty sure mine were all set. but instead of opening up the easy root v7 out of winrar directly i extracted it to the desktop then ran it then it worked? lol so i am very confused. but it works now thank you for your help.
Yes I know the title is a bit long, but there's no other way to say it.
After updating my rom to android revolution hd 84,I've encountered a small problem: I can't copy single files larger than 3-4MB to some of my root folders.
I discovered this when I tried to change my kernel and my phone restated. I thought it was incompatible but then it happened again when I tried to change my bootanimation.
Basically whenever I try to copy a single file larger than 3-4MB to some of my root folders, my phone auto-deletes it and restarts.
And yes, I've unlocked my bootloader, rooted my phone and I have busybox.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention, I'm using X-Plore as a file manager, and all root folders have a little purple circle on their corner. I can do whatever I want normally in those folders. However, most folders have a red circle and coincidentally, those are the folders which restart my phone and delete all files over 3-4MB that are put into them.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
Bump, has anyone got any ideas?

sounds like the kernal to me, you seem to have write protection, have you tried changing the permissions on the folder your trying to write files too or even try another kernal.
I tried a lot of different permissions, nothing works. And since it's got write protection, I CAN'T change the kernel.
EDIT: also, not sure if it matters, but when I updated my rom to a newer version, I didn't wipe the userdata partition, since it's the same rom, just a newer version.
I was thinking of maybe making another nandroid backup, reinstalling the rom AND wiping the userdata partition to try if it fixed anything, and if nothing is fixed, I'll just restore the backup to before I reinstalled the rom.

This shouldnt stop you from flashing another kernal in recovery, this only effects what you do when booted into the rom.
It's the same thing. Did you read my 1st post? I discovered this when trying to change my kernel, which I can only do through recovery. I use TWRP. I tried flashing a custom kernel and the phone just rebooted without any changes. Then later I tried flashing another bootanimation and the phone again rebooted with the default bootanimation. And it still does it when trying to manually change the bootanimation by replacing it with a file manager.
In conclusion, I get the same problem even in recovery.

Of course I read your first post, just didnt quite understand the restart part, thought you meant it restarted itself out of your rom, I would try what you said, rather than a dirty flash, try with a clean slate after backing up, there maybe parts of your old modifications to the system in the data partition.
Also, I'm not sure it can technically be called "write protection", since I can copy\delete\move, etc files just fine, but I can't copy files above 3MB. And due to that I can't change my bootanimation and kernel. As for the bootanmation, I also tried changing it manually and still the same thing happens - my phone reboots and deletes the file I copied. Needless to say, the same thing happens even when trying to flash it with TWRP.
Ok, reinstalling rom, will report back with results.
Edit 1 - install complete, rebooting....
Edit 2 - doing the setup thing at the 1st startup
Conclusion - Strangely enough, doing a clean flash of my rom fixed everything. Weird. Well, guess now I have a lot of things to set up again.
Well, thx for everything, even if I managed to fix everything by myself in the end. Though, I'd still much appreciate it if anyone could tell me what the problem was so I can be ready for any similar problems I might have in the future.

Running a mofo rooted 4.4 Turbo, and over the last two weeks Verizon has been relentlessly trying to make me take the update, which I have avoided downloading, until last night. I wake up this morning to find they finally got over on me, and the update has been downloaded... but NOT installed... yet.
I LOVE the way my phone is now, as I have tethering which is the only reason I care to have root. I have read that by taking the update I will lose root, and I have also read a few threads claiming that I can retain root ONLY if I have 4.4 rooted, and then flashing to 5.1, which I have. The problem is, I have found little information proving this is true, or proven 5.1 flash files with tether.
Can someone guide me? Please? I need to either stop this OTA install (preferably delete the downloaded files which I cannot find) or go ahead and update to 5.1 and maintain root. Again, while I do not mind the upgrade, but have yet to find a trustworthy tether enabled 5.1 flash. While I did manage to root 4.4 using mofo, I am not the most knowledgeable on this kind of stuff, and simply want my tethering abilities. I wish they would just leave my phone and I alone, lol.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am sure that any time now the phone is going to install this stupid update they have now forced me to download.
Anyone? Bueller.....
I constantly get notifications to install... would really like to delete the downloaded files. Cant find ANY info on how to do so on the Turbo.

Pretty sure the file is in the cache directory and you can freeze the Motorola ota app using something like titanium backup.
koftheworld is correct. I'm 4.4 mofo rooted and was getting nagged, my update recently downloaded too. I froze the MotorolaOTA app using Titanium Backup, rebooted to recovery, then cleared the cache partition. I haven't had a pop up since. Clear cache partition took over 10 min. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply... just downloaded a file manager but have yet to be able to locate the cache directory. If I was to do a cache wipe, would that get rid of it?
Any knowledge of this claim?

Im terrified of using stuff like that Titanium Backup because I am clueless about it, lol. Thank you for the info though, guess Im going to go download it. I've read thats what I should do, I was just hoping to find some proof of this claim:

Is the freezing process self explanatory after I download Ti Backup? Have a link or any info I could use on the process? Thanks again for your help.

Its pretty straight forward. Open Titanium Backup, grant root access if its the first time you open it, go to the Backup/Restore tab, scroll down to MotorolaOTA app and press it. When the menu pops up press "Freeze!". The app should then appear highlighted in the app list.
So I found myself one night totally screwed (for a little while) after uninstalling a bunch of apps i didn't need, one of them being the google keyboard. I went, rebooted, and what do you know, NO KEYPAD! Did some research, tried flashing some files in TWRP since i could get into that, still no go. Then saw a post of someone just using a OTG and Keyboard. Bam i was back in. Reinstalled the google keyboard but still no go.
From what i have read that with the encryption on Marshmallow, to get rid of it, you have to do a factory reset or a delete userdata. I can't find anything else to help me out from what I have read and wonder if there is anyone else who knows what to do besides backing everything up once again, wiping, and reinstalling, and restore. Just don't have the time for that these days.
I will say this. Stock Marshmallow is running great. I have yet needed to restart my phone in over a week and it still runs great, but I always keep a keyboard and my OTG adapter near by XD
Thanks for the help

I'm confused by some of your post... Do you have a keyboard now or not? If not, you can't just install another keyboard? Swype, Swift, etc.?
From what i heard it has to be the Android Keyboard. Which I installed. But it was funny i was walking a friend though some changes on the keyboard and it see it says GBoard and not Android keyboard. I'll have to check that out there.
But no I don't have the keyboard back.
1. Yes, to get rid of encryption you need to select the "format data" option in TWRP or the factory reset option in the stock recovery menu. Wiping data is not enough.
2. Reflash your rom. When /data is encrypted, your phone only reads off of system. Reflashing your rom via OTG cable will restore all system apps, including the keyboard. If that doesn't work, ask someone who uses your rom to send you the stock keyboard app. Then you can use TWRP's file browser to place it in /system/app (again, via OTG since /data is useless to you at the moment), and you should be good to go.
Yea its just the Stock Verizon ROM with the Stock Verizon keyboard lol. If anyone has it, it would be greatly appreciated ^.^ I just haven't had any time to back everything up, wipe the userdata, re-flash, and restore everything all over again.
I have TWRP and am able to flash anything I need there and have access to the whole file system. I was stupid and didn't do a full backup of everything with Titanium before i uninstalled everything that I though I didn't need.

Hello everyone, I am new to this whole rooting thing. I rooted my galaxy s7 edge and everything was fine and working properly until a couple of days ago. I deleted my SuperSU and some other backup files on accident. I re-downloaded the app on the playstore and now the SuperSU app says that root is not detected. I am trying to fix it and I can't figure it out. Someone please help me, I need to either unroot my phone or somehow get superSU back. Again I am new to this I tried to flash a zip in recovery and cannot seem to figure it out. Anyone know how to fix my phone???

Flash the unSU zip from here to unroot, then make the same that you did to root it again.

Well I wanted to use some of my apps such as PokemonGO, and with the root it wouldnt let me. I read on this site that deleting 3rd party apps and then signing into the apps would work. They made it seem like all I had to do was redownload SuperSu. However all the rooted apps are gone and a lot of other files are gone, and I still cannot use the PokemonGo app. I cant seem to flash the zip file that everyone says to do. When I try to open SuperSU it says it root undetected, but my bootloader still says custom and when I reboot in recovery it says custom. Also rootchecker says that I am not rooted. I just want to get my phone working either with the original software, or rooting all over again.

How on earth did you delete the Play store when trying to remove third party apps?
Anyway... I'd nuke the phone and start from scratch. Have you searched through your device's forum for advice? Feels like the more appropriate place to go... Good luck.

Your phone did that by itself? Seems unlikely...
And that doesn't sound like a factory reset, it sounds like compete wipe.
Like I said, go to your device's forum, find the stock firmware (here's one guide) or a custom ROM and flash it to your device. If you need further advice, those forums is the place to go...
What you really need to do though is read, read, read about what you're doing, before doing it. "Sir! Put the device down and step away!"
