amazon kindle - Motorola Droid 3

amazon kindle was the first thing i deleted when I became a root user
I did that before I backed it up
I downloaded the app in the market and put it in the SYSTEM/APP/ folder
but when I View it in Titanium backup it still shows as white
what do I do to get my system apps back to normal so I can make a recovery for the system?

if you have the pro version of TB it has an option for converting system app to user app and vice versa.

im running the remove bloat script and it misses amazon kindle "kindle" everytime, im just trying to figure out where the file needs to be placed so that the script takes care the .bak extansion

I just looked at my girlfriends phone, she is not rooted and i think she removed kindle.... so that means I dont need kindle for jack**** right???

You could just manually rename it to .bak

i think your right, its not on her phone so it cant be, i dont know why i thought it was all this time though... i think it was because it was listed on the bloat remove script that I started to think that.

[Q] I can't unistall some apps

Hi to all!
I have unrooted my kf (beacause i had to restore it), but now i have the market of google and Go launcher hd and i can't uninstall them..
How can i do?
Thank you for your answer =)
You are unrooted... That's why you can't uninstall them. My guess is because they now reside inside /system/app/
But I could be wrong.

I rooted again but i can't remove the go launcher yet!
You may have to manually remove them from system, but first try going into settings then apps and seeing if it is in the list there
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
If you installed an app into the system folder you do need root to remove it.
Now that you are rooted see if you can find the launcher apk file in the system/apps folder using a file explorer such as es file explorer. If you delete that apk and restart the kindle the app will be uninstalled after boot.
Obviously be careful and make sure you are only deleting apps you have added yourself, and not ones that maybe important system apps

Doesn't work
1) There isn't any market on my apps, i'll post you a screenshot
2) I can't remove the modified bootloader!

[Q] Applications re-install themselves on rooted phone when removed intitanium backup

Hello there,
I have a sim-free htc one with with the original HTC rom. I rooted the phone (CWM and superSU) and confirmed successful root access with root checker.
I installed titanium backup because I wanted to get rid of the following applications.
7Digital
Facebook
Tweeter
Stocks
Deals
Kids mode
I successfully uninstall these apps with titanium backup. However if I power off or reboot the phone these applications re-install themselves.
Why is that happening?
Thanks,
Andrew

I've seen people mention this before and for some reason I seem to think it has something to do with the read/write ability of partitions? I'm probably completely wrong lol but anyways, have you tried deleting them or renaming them with a .bak at the end, using something like Root Explorer?

Hello,
Thanks for the reply. No I haven't try renaming them or deleting them.
How do I do that? I am using root browser app.
In which folder are these applications installed?

Hi,
If I'm not wrong you need a custom kernel with write protection disabled, you'll find them in the devellopment sections... It depends on the Android version you have actually, for 4.1.2 there is a totally stock kernel with write protection disabled, if you are on 4.2.2, try Bulletproof kernel close (or the closest) to stock.
Or take a look here: [KERNEL MODULE]Disable system write protection on stock kernel.

If that's true then your better off using the stock Kernel from ARHD because that's 4.2.2 and you can 100% delete and rename system apk's ... Personally I'm not a huge fan of custom Kernels.

Download an app like Root Explorer and navigate to "system/app" ... All the system apps are listed here. You can rename them so that they won't run after a reboot but there still there incase you want to revert back, or you can delete them. In Root Explorer you just have to long press on the apk and a list of options will pop up, 2 of which are rename and delete.

Hello guys,
Thanks for the help, I will try first to rename the apps and if that does not work I will try to disable system write protection on stock kernel.
I will post the results.

This has never happened before on any of my Samsung phones.
So thing to install it. Copy it into the system/app folder and set the correct permission. If you deleted the odex for of them then you'll need to get those too. Or use another launcher. Touchwiz launcher sucks anyways.

So I ended up doing a factory reset. and everything is working fine.
The funny thing is after the factory reset, none of the Samsung and AT&T bloat was on there., including My magazine and magazine.
Only Samsung apps were the health and S note / drawing.
That happen to me also when I did a factory reset one time, weird stuff.

So I downloaded the .apk and got the same did not install as the previous user and I'm fairly new to rooting, so would like to resolve this somehow without having to go back to stock and potentially re-root...thanks for your patience. I am using a SM-900V. Is the system when i just paste it into the base of my phone when connected to my computer? Also, how do I change permissions? I downloaded Root Toolbox free and don't see how to do it in there.

Ok, so I bought Root Explorer and was able to transfer the MagazineHome.apk and the Lounge.apk into system/app and then I changed the permissions to rw-r-r, and then I rebooted. When swiping up from home screen I get no application installed and I also still get TW has stopped when I hit the home button while on the home screen. Another note is that when I rebooted, just about right away I got unfortunately my magazine has stopped. Any help from this point?

Go into system apps and delete the two, reboot, install them again and reboot. You could also try going into recovery if you have twrp installed or CWM and try fixing permissions after you re-install the apks again.

Google apps that are safe to remove

I tried to remove gmail and chrome beta through titanium backup and my phone didn't reboot I had to flash clean ROM again.
I'm using the Microsoft outlook app and I like Firefox over chrome.
Is there a reason it won't reboot?

This is why I like to flash my own gapps. This way you can flash a minimal gapps. Banks basically has the play store and little else.

I agree. The only system things I restore with tibu are wallpaper, call log, and text messages.
i stopped using titanium backup when android 4.0 came out. and i stopped using titanium for backing up apps about a year before that. if its modding anything in the /system/ or in /sys/, then its done manually.

generally, i dirty flash everything(no data loss that way). i do make a nandroid backup in my recovery, just in case the dirty flash goes bad. but they never go bad. if you do have issues after a dirty flash, its usually app related, and clearing that apps data usually fixes things. but the times i do wipe, google is pretty good about restoring what i need

Titanium backup and 6.0

Has anyone been able to restore their apps via titanium? I backed up all my apps from 5.1.1 and when I try to restore on 6.0 titanium crashes. Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.
It worked for me. but I wait until all applications install from Google backup, then let TB restore the data.
TB is acting up. I suspect that something has changed in the way 6 treats /storage/emulated/legacy where TB searches for the license and its backups.

Yeah TB is being a bit funky at the moment on Marshmallow. Make sure you have full root access (I tested by trying to install busy box) before troubleshooting TB. Tread carefully and I would second making fresh installs of program files and only restoring program data when necessary.

Yep, just notified from the Play store. TB Working well so far...
I did a full TB backup with 5.1.1 on v7.2.2 and have installed and rooted 6.0.0 on nexus 5. Restoring does not work on either v7.2.2 or v7.2.3. I have even tried changing backup location to mnt/sdcard etc.
Restore of SMS worked, but apps just get stuck at 0%.
I have a feeling I might have to restore my TWRP backup of 5.1.1 and try another method. Unless anyone has any bright ideas?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers
You have to manually enter folder location as it won't find it on its own.

I tried this and did not fix; still hangs on restore of apps.
On the otherhand restore of data works in apps that were installed by the play store.
In the SuperSu 2.50 forum one post mentioned having an issue with busybox (affecting TB) due to lack of space in the /system partition. He deleted some files and said it helped. I don't know if I'm ready to start deleting things until I'm sure that is the problem.

Restore of app+data hangs indefinitely for me. Restore of data alone does not work: TB segfaults.
Same problem here. Backup works but tibu seems to be unable to write. I can't use tibu to move Google system apps to user either, so the advice in the SuperSU 2.5 forum doesn't help me, saw that earlier. With only 16mb free in system I tried to install busy box, and the install end reporting it was successful, but on the about tab it is still reporting bb not installed. So it's possible SuperSU not really doing its job.

Here's another solution for people who are stuck trying to restore apps. Choose the option to "Create update.zip from app+data backups". Then restore that through TWRP. I just did that and it works fine.
It's quicker and easier to switch kernels if that is causing the problem though. I'm sure this will all be fixed soon enough.
Thanks everyone for the help. I think I'll try the create update zip that cmo220 suggested. seems the easiest. If that doesn't work I'll try another suggestion. I'll let yall know how it goes.

you have to make a back up first, then you can make the update.zip. if you dont, its empty, and wont work. its in the same options where you make the backup, just lower

also, i had an "out of space error" originally, but it turned out to be because i didnt clean wipe before upgrading to M and system RW wasnt enabled.
Update.zip worked for me. You must boot after ROM after install, set it up, then go back and install the update.zip in twrp. And simms22 is right about the zip creation. Thanks all.
