I hope this is the correct location for this question. I've had my D3 since shortly after its release. All was well for about a month, then it started overheating.
I got an app called OS Monitor which allows me to check the temp of the battery. It will commonly go over 110 degrees while just sitting in my pocket. The problem is intermittent but can last for days.
While it is overheating the battery drains very quickly and only charges about 10% per 2 hours while hooked up via AC Power. I also have started having signal issues that only occur when it is overheating.
Below is a small part of some error messages I found in OS Monitor and I don't know what they mean. If anyone can help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long thread.

Looks like the cpu voltage is constantly higher than it should be.
Try doing a battery pull and with the battery out, hold the power button in for 10 seconds(this drains the capacitors charge in the phone, so this might clear out something that's not behaving properly) I'm not sure that'll help but give that a try.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention this with my original post... I've replaced both the phone and the battery and the problem persists. The problem is seemingly being caused by an application. Is there a way for me to diagnose which app is causing the problem? (if thats the case).
Thanks again!
Are you using the camera? Mine does this if I don't reboot after taking photos / videos.

Unfortunately I'm not. I've done a battery pull, replaced the phone, replaced the battery, factory reset. It must be an app doing it, I just don't know how to find it.

When you factory reset did you let google restore your apps or you do that manually?

I just got my phone replaced today (3rd time, 2nd due to this issue) because it apparently overheated. Both times it started bootlooping, then it just refused to power on at all in any way. I have never had a phone die that way, but this is the second time.
This time behind the battery looks like it started melting or something, I will try and post a picture of it. The Verizon guy asked a lot of questions about it overheating, even blaming my case when I said it was off when it happened (I was running and it doesn't fit in my armband with the case). Then he asked if I dropped it, lol. Anyways, I asked if he had ever seen this and he said yes, but not with the Droid 3. I have a hard time believing I am the only person he has seen it happen to but it has happened to me twice.
At least I am getting a new one overnighted to me tomorrow, but I hope overheating doesn't become a problem.

i dont know if this will help but i installed a live wall paper and i did not like it so i went back to a pic and the phone was still slow. i downloaded cpu usage app and it showed the live wallpaper was using 50%-55% cpu even with it not set as my wallpaper
Yeah I watch the temp of the batter with Elixir app icon, i've been testing camera mods and have seen high temps sometimes reaching 37 degrees when I've crashed the camera app, almost zero cpu activity during also.
An app will indeed cause over heating in my experience.
Generaly mine is around 25 to 30 degrees during the day and use, nights goes down to 21 degrees.
-smc
I manually re-installed my apps.
I think 30C is about the lowest the temp of mine goes... which is fine. The problem is that it will intermittently shoot upwards of 40C while idle.
Sounds like you've got bad hardware, should definitely not be doing that. If you reset, and did not restore apps via google, I think that's the only remaining suspect.

I think it is the whole dual core setup since the Droid X2 over heats badly I had so many and it just kept happening. I got a droid 3 and mine over heats when surfing and cam as well as good old texting. It is just gonna be a matter of time for the Bionic to start over heating moto needs to get everything stragiht so there phones arnet like samsung and be a pos. I have tried the extended and standard battery and have gotten replacements and when it comes to the, Moto dual core phones the problems still happen....
I don't have any problems with it overheating at all. I think it must be something running your cpu up. Can you see which apps are running and post it here?

Hello,
i have a bad problem with my LG starting from day one when i bought it. I tried many things now, to no avail.
The problem is that sometimes my battery falls from high percent value to 0 just in one second. then the mobile goes out and i have to charge it, even it was nearly full some minutes ago.
Another problem is a warm mobile in standby mode when i have mobile inet active, and battery wont last longer than 4 hours. With WIFI it doesnt get warm but starts to decerase RAM until the mobile is unusable (timeouts, freezes, ect)
So there are 3 problems, i think related together somehow:
1. sudden Akku drainage, falling from high percent value to zero
2. fast akku drainage with mobile inet on, doesnt fall from #to zero, but get used up very fast
3. Unusable mobile due to RAM issues when WIFI activated.
Here are following some pics and a Log attached from Android Stats. Here you can see starting at 9.34 the bettery recalculations, in very short timeframes.
Can someone see any issues from the log what could be the problem?
The situation was like this: I recharged yesterday evening, and turned mobile inet on. Then i went to sleep. In the morning i saw that i had no connection to google servers (icons white instead on green) but i saw the battery was only drained 2% over night so i thought not bad.
I reactivated internet (mobile) in hope to get conn to google servers. Well, i got it but in same time the battery got drained from 98% to just 40% in one second. Since then the mobile stays warm. I have auto sync deactivated.

I forgot:
Android 2.3.4 original, rooted but nothing changed on firmware/rom/baseband/anything
So i inserted screens now.
you have some kind of background application that doesnt let your phone enter deep sleep mode to lower cpu frequency and conserve battery (phone is awake when screen is not on, you can see the activity in the pictures). you should check what app is using most of the CPU time, it might not be code optimized and might be sucking too much of the battery.
also, it might help resetting the battery stats, search a bit and find some info on that (short version, charge it to 100%, let it for another hour plugged in, go in CM, delete battery stats, restart).
worst case scenario, your battery is busted and a replacement might be needed. hope that helps.
andrei.je said:
just a hint : most battery consumption can be checked in the battery stats, on the activity graph : awake vs screen on - if awake and screen on are not synced in the activity graph (should have same lines) then you have a problem. meaning when your phone has its screen off it should go into deep sleep mode (lower cpu frequency) but if you the phone is awake while screen is off, you have an application installed that won't let your phone sleep and just keeps using the cpu and sucking the battery.
this is mostly applied to standby battery life, if you are playing a game/watching a movie, doesn't really matter screen is on, cpu/gpu is sucking the battery.
my worst battery life while i had the O2X was about 16h, but that's with normal phone use (no games - you can have a psp for that, no music - you can have an ipod for that), mostly emails, browsing, IMs, calls/texts all day long also best battery life was 2d 10h (mostly on standby)

Thanks for also answering my post on the other topic.
It may be that theres an app that keep our phone from sleep, but even with this app, when i dont turn on wifi or mobile internet, the mobile runs 6 days straight. This is no joke, offline it could hold 6 days, i have a screen of where it looses 8% in 28 hours. And as you can see on my screen, it happens from one second to the other.
I already changed the phone the third time now, even with very few installed apps, this remains. I had it first time on day one when bought th mobile. Since then in all 3 mobiles maybe 15 times.
Anyway, it bothered me, but not as much as that the phone went nearly unusable with internet active. Always at 50 mb ram. So it was basically an offline only phone. In my 2 tests, both 5 days without internet, the mobile neither went slow, nor went off, nor lost battry, nor anything. Very fast LG OS. Until internet...
Anyway, now i installed Chuck Norris CM /MIUI ROM, lets see what happens. Until now its so smooth and soft, it feels like a complete other mobile. Also with wifi active... but i cannot say anything until tomorrow.
I tested already a lot of System Analyzer apps but theres really not much to see. Nothing seem to use much battery in whole. At least nothing that explains a loss of 70% in 5 seconds.
I posted a log here, thats the best thing to see i guess, but i cannot really read it well :-(
Anyway, your help is appreciated

I think the problem is caused by the battery stat file. Avoiding the techinical causes you should only charge the phone untill 100% and using battery calibration (you can donwload it for free from market) calibrate the battery! Hope to be helpful ^_*

Hello !
I just bought my P880 two days ago and everything is great except one thing: battery drain. It is not occouring in background when phone is in Deep sleep, it doesn't lose charge while it's sleeping, but when I just unlock it/start using it, it just starts draining.
I have rooted it, and unrooted using SuperSU. The thing is I haven't experienced that kind of drain yesterday, it was working fine except drain caused by bad signal (badly inserted SIM).
Usage by Android System is at 50% over 5 hours, Screen is at 9%. Awake graphs are the same as Screen on graphs- no wakelocks.
I have these apps installed:
Prey Anti Theft
Skype (not running)
Adobe Reader
SoundHound
Disco Light
QR Droid
Sygic (not running)
X-plore
SwiftKey 3 keyboard
WiFi, GPS, Data, everything turned off except mobile signal
Running Internation version with Android 4.0.3, Kernel 2.6.39.4-00001-g0f9182c
Mobile network type is EDGE:2 with mobile signal -70dBm
I'm first time android user and this is my first problem so I tried to include as much info as possible.
Thanks in advance
I see 2 mayor issues, first is the android deft app, it may be running and trying to sync but bcz the data is off it will try to connect foreva.
Also, edge is (in other words) ROAMING and this forces the antenna to use more power to get signal from another provider, it get worst if you have a phone with sim card.

Thanks for pointing that out, but I have disabled every sync and I have set phone to 2G mode only, the reason is that UMTS signal was low and was draining battery even more.
I am only losing sharge when just doing random things on phone, even if that means only adding/removing widgets/apps on main screen with WiFi off.
Then you must try the Deodexed version of v10f, removing the bloatware with the script in the same thread.
The issue may be some lg apps that are running in the background so doing this will have 6 hours in standby time with 100% still, like me (if I turn all radios off ).
I have just woken up, while sleeping (9h) phone was awake for about 50%, no wakelocks but there were 30 alarms from Android/Google maps ans 29 alarms from com.google.android.gsf
Hope this helps.
I may try custom ROMs if nothing else works.
While typing this message I have lost 7%.
Similar state here as the OP. Got the phone two days ago.
All is good, it rooted OK, Directory Bind works fine, phone runs like hell (about 10 times faster than my old Galaxy S) BUT it drains battery like a genuine power guzzler.
Ok I get that according to the performance you get, it comes with an accordingly high power draw, so I don't ***** about it, I just want to know if this is normal. I mean I played 2 hours and 15 minutes of Sprinkle and the battery died, starting from a full charge. Screen was set at 50%.
GPS is off, Bluetooth is off, no 3G mobile network and screen is at 50% brightness as I said. There's an NFC icon on the notification bar next to the battery icon, which I am not sure if it should be there.
Here are a couple of shots from the battery section of the phone and from Battery monitor widget if these help.

Please note that as the OP said, the phone consumes nearly nothing when idling. Firmware is 10f.
PS I am not trying to hijack the OP's thread. I just noticed the same behavior and I'd like some help on the same matter, as well as to contribute in whatever way I can. If the OP is offended somehow, I will gladly start a new thread.
@psolord No, not offended at all. I'm glad you posted actually.
My phone has encountered 20 more Alarms, wake ups since I left it standing:
com.google.android.apps.maps Wakeups: 50
com.google.android.gsf Wakeups: 45
You can see pictures below, the drop on the second picture happened when I was writing me previous post from P880.
- I am also rooted again (after factory restore)
- I have reenabled 3G networks but the signal is only at about 50%.
Any additional info please ?
Ok buddy, so we can keep discussing it here together.
For the matter at hand, I see the same behavior, when I unlock the screen, it's like I have opened a whole in the battery.
It dropped from 85% to 65% just from downloading a new map (500MB, 20min download on a slow wifi) from Sygic downloader. I mean this can't be right, right?
I also checked cpu spy and it reports the system 75% at deep idle, 15% at 51Mhz and the rest are 0% to 1% up to 1500Mhz. So if the cpu has so little operation, what on earth is draining the battery?
I wonder if we could be looking at a bad battery batch.
Is there an app that reports exactly what activity consumes power and how much?
Indeed, the hole in the battery.
I even restored to factory from recovery mode since I screwed up the root, so it was just stock, but guess what, nothing has changed :crying:
I really hope this can get fixed, else I'll get a replacement.
I hope someone from this forum with more experience can help :/
I think I am onto something.
Can you please check how is the phone doing if you disable everything under location and services?

I am going to try this, I am also talking to LG Support right now. WIll let you know when I get more information.
I disabled everything, and I didn't see pretty much any improvement. LG Support suggested me to return the phone.
Pretty much draining the battery atm so I can charge it back to 100% and use something like Battery Calibration. Maybe it can change something.
Yeah indeed I was onto nothing. Nothing changed for me either.
Playing 30mins of a 720P resulted my battery dropping from 62% to 50%. I also used the gps for the first time with Sygic (Jesus even the GPS is lightning fast) and the battery went from 50% to 30% for a 20 minute ride. It seems that my phone cannot give me more than 2 hours of use. That's just silly.
BTW do you or anybody, know of an app that can show battery usage per app?

Stock application ?
Also you can use Better Battery Stats to see if there are any wakelocks or anything is waking up the phone etc.
What is happening right now is rather strange, I disabled screen turning off (trying to drain battery to 1%/2%) looking at stock battery app, it seems to be stuck at 21% and it's not changing.
The stock application does not do so much analysis, but the batterystats you used above seems more like it.
I am getting panicked and I miss some stuff haha. Ok lets cool.
It makes me sad that we don't get any input from the community. Something like "yeah this is normal, live with it" or "your phone is faulty, take it back to the shop for a replacement" or something.
Agreed, ANY, ANY kind of input would be appreciated, but I guess we are getting none.
I am going to fully charge it today, do some stuff and report back tommorow. Also anyone, please do post any suggestion you may have.

Maybe this has to do something with the built in power saver. Maybe it kicks in when the battery drops to the 20s and stops whatever is draining it.
I am thinking trying some battery saver to see if it does the same thing but from the beginning of the full charge.

Maybe this has to do something with the built in power saver. Maybe it kicks in when the battery drops to the 20s and stops whatever is draining it.

Actually I have disabled it when it asked me if it should turn on. So I guess nothing to do with that.
I am going to backup now, fully unroot and somehow get it to pure stock. Than I'm probably going to exchange the phone in case battery life doesn't change.
Hello. Since I got my Xperia Z and boot unlocked/rooted, I've always had some sort of 'wakelock' issue with my device, regardless the rom.
Whether it be A to Z, I keep doing what I can - I've had my phone for a while now and I decided, alright - time to go to a custom ROM (I usually used stock variants)- (Using Cyanogen now; I used them on my old phone, loved it.)
The biggest issue sometime ago with this was the Play Store always being a wake lock.
Or it's RILJ.
Brightness.
Not turning on.
Or it's some other thing.
It's really, really, annoying. There's just no end to the wakelocks. However using this CM11, I've nearly hit the perfect point - I'm down to one wakelock, and though I don't think it's severe - it's a wakelock none the less.
AudioMix.
Touch sounds off, no audio on any setting (media, notification, ringtone even) yet it still persists. No sound during games and, still occurs.
But I've played these games for a while and these have only occurred in this rom(s). Now with 4.4, Better Battery Stats now lists WHO is causing it so YAY! But, these never had audiomix wakelocks so this seems to be the ROM or Android Version

I use a program called AppConfig to make sure my screen doesn't turn off or dim during games, and I tried turning Media Volume to 0 with it once and this stopped the audiomix wakelock. Omg! Testing this, turned volume up, played for a short while, turned it back on and restarted phone. AudioMix.
It only worked once, though. I don't want to always have no sound, just when I turn sound off - I want the sound actually off, not AudioMix wakelocks.
My guess is the ROM is consuming battery because it thinks there's audio, when there isn't.
Currently using...
Version:

And before you say, 'that's out dated now!', this has happened through various CM11 roms and stuff. I've tried a few now, I've just found this one the most wakelock free / stable so far.
I figure it's an issue with 4.4, but -- It's still an issue !! I've googled it and looked at multiple threads and there's always the same answers, but no one mentioned what I did - About an application forcing no sound, disabling the wakelock. So perhaps this could have some theories developed as to why it exists...?

My other question is... I've looked at some Auto Brightness settings in the past, but no one has any listed for this latest Cyanogen style of brightness.
What Auto Brightness does everyone use?
Currently I have....

I saw a .pdf document about lux values and how much brightness you should have and stuff, but I don't think it was intended for phone use. It looked more like a university study, but I lost the page ><
I tinker with it when I can, trying to get it perfect. But it could definitely still use some tinkering! Wondering what everyone else uses - So if you have any advice or settings I coulld try out, that'd be great thanks!

Ah, yes. Right, but I can't get that because a lot of things I do conflicts with it. A good mention is Puzzles & Dragons, it doesn't let you run it with Xposed module.
Tinkering with a friends phone too (Xperia Z2) and using CM11 on his as well. AudioMix wakelock as well.
I know Xposed is the 'fix to the aftermath' but it's not something I can install sadly. Any other ideas?

Check this out
When I measure my blood oxygen is successful.
Once 98 indicates once 87 shows . and when i check my Spo2 with my Galaxy s9 it show True
what is the problem ?
It's very inaccurate, almost useless. I compared results from professional sp02 monitor, where I scored 98%, and my watch, that showed 92% at the same time.
No have more problem for this
In where we can check Vo2 max and in where we can find Spo2 ?
Actually kind of a record....
Cranked the watch down a little extra tight, and after one or two incomplete readings I got this. Most were pretty quick, a few took 15+ seconds. Sitting normally resting my hand like normally:
96, 94, 93, 94, 94 96, 94, 96, 96, 95, 95, 96, 96, 94
I know from other monitors that <95 is not accurate. So this is understated by at least 2 points. At least I know it can get consistent readings if I tighten the watch to the point of cutting off circulation!

Here's what I found to work
no change to the band tightness, just slide the watch up a finger width or so above your wrist
As soon as you start the O2 test, use your other hand to press down on the watch at the top and bottom (where the straps attach)
This gives me consistent readings in the mid-upper 90's which look more normal
my watch 3 show my spo2 low but when i check my spo2 with my phone sensor my spo2 is very well .

There are several ways to "get it to work", none of which are how it's intended to work and none of which are going to work for sleep monitoring. On-demand checking of SPo2 really doesn't serve any practical purpose.
I hope for a software fix, but the fact that it appears to take at least 10 seconds to get a reading (when it works) doesn't give me hope that the sensors are up to the task. To be able to detect potential sleep apnea, as Samsung claims, it needs to be able to measure SPo2 at least every few seconds while you sleep. And it needs to be very consistent/accurate.
Something is going on. No way does Samsung release this feature, much less make the sleep monitoring claims, with this many people having issues. Makes me wonder if the ECG/BPM hack many of us here installed is the actual culprit. But I don't know how or why that would be the case.
On the other hand, maybe Samsung did release a half-baked feature, otherwise you're trying to sell a watch with most of the advanced health features you're promoting disabled! The fact there is currently no SPo2 monitoring during sleep, as far as I can tell, might be an indicator Samsung knows it's still wonky.

Reading low doesn't really matter so long as it's consistent. Normal is 95% and above, and it fluctuates. Below 90% is generally considered to be potentially dangerous.
Sleep apnea is a condition where people temporarily stop breathing while they sleep, and this causes blood oxygen levels to drop. Too many drops, large drops and drops below 90% are indicators of a potential problem. So if you know it's reading 2-3 points low, then you're concerned with drops below 87-88%. No big deal. But the readings need to be consistent in order to know if a sudden 4-5 point drop is real. And you can see from the readings I posted earlier that the consistency appears to be a little over +/- 1%, meaning 2-3 point changes are common within the normal variance of the watch.
It wasn't any better before I installed the BP/ECG hack, so I think you may be spot on: Samsung knows this needs work but had to release it quickly, otherwise, their announcement with all the new features would be completely empty

Now you got me thinking....It's almost the same message as for BPM - keep your wrist steady at heart rate level. That's obviously not how it's going to work with sleep monitoring, and it's not how any SPo2 detector works (but IS how to properly take a BPM reading). Even that error message is half-baked.
So the watch automatically detects when you're sleeping. That would also mean the SPo2 would be automatically triggered and begin recording for sleep monitoring. Maybe that coding is somehow interfering with on-demand readings.

And one more: when you take a BP or ECG reading, you can see your pulse on the watch and it's even and steady in both modes. With an O2 reading, it's all over the place. I often do all three at once and really notice the difference without ever moving my arm.

I'ts not an on-demand feature. You must do the run at least 20 minutes in the HR zone above your 70% of your Max HR and when you finish your workout it will be shown in the stats of your workout (in the watch and Samsung Health as well). It will be calculated every time you spend at least 20 minutes in the mentioned HR zone. For now, VO2Max is only shown in workout stats.
Best regards

Garmin venu and vivoactive 4/4s has accurate SpO2-sensors. Their red LEDs are very strong and bright though, much brighter than their green HRM-sensors. I don't know how bright Watch 3s red LEDs are, but if they are as weak as Active 2s SpO2-sensor there's no wonder why they're not accurate.

I hadn't realized it was a red LED, but now that you mention it other SPo2 sensors I've used had a red LED. But I just checked, and the red LED on the GW3 is blindingly bright when taking a SPo2 reading.
But maybe you're on to something because HR and BPM use the green LED.

Really? Could you try to do a sensor-test in the service menu to see if they are blindingly bright there as well? Dial *#0*# -> HRM -> EOL
If they are I think we can forget SpO2 on GWA2. Heres a comparison between the green and red light on a GWA2

Hello.
Since the MIUI 13 update, I've bee experiencing heavy battery drain. Normally with standard phone use, i end up the day with around 50% left. Now i reach 50% by the midday . I didn't install any new app and I've been using the phone the same way since a year now. i have noticed tat the majority (71% ?? ) of the battery drain is under the "Other" category as you can see in the attachment. Even after a factory reset.
My question : is there any way to see which apps are under Other" category?
if t is due to the MIUI 13 update, is there any fix to that ?
thank you in advance

Try betterbatterystats here in xda. Grant every single permissions that it asked, no root is needed.
It would give you a clue what causing the drain. Fixing it? That's another story.

@z2xv2i Sorry, I have no idea. Netlink usually caused by issues related to wifi (connection to router, ip config, etc). But since your screenshots show you're likely use mobile data, I am safely ruled that out. Even no idea about the usb.
And since your screenshots show Facebook etc, why don't you try debloating first? There's a lot guide to follow, but I usually recommend this https://selivan.github.io/2020/02/25/removing-bloatware-from-xiaomi-miui-android.html Read carefully, pick 1 by 1, and observe if the battery life gets better.

is this valid for MIUI 13 ? site shows its for miui 12.5
Also, i've noticed my phone never goes to Deep Sleep as seen in attached screenshots. Did'nt recall having this issue with MIUI 12.
I don't know if it is a hardware issue , since the [email protected] -usb- usbpd0 wakelocks are heavily responsible for the drain, or it is something related to the MIUI 13 update.
to be honest, I have been dealing with the same problem recently. Betterbatterystats does not help at all for me, its stats are very vague. And even when for my case, when it shows the cause is "Google Play Services" eating all the battery, the specific solution is still unknown.
My only escape is to install a new rom.
I am very very disappointed at Android right now. I'm fed up with Google Play Services suddenly eating up all my battery and it happens without any signal, any where, out of nowhere, after a few months. It is a really sh*tty thing that I have to deal with this in 2022.
I had the some problem ([email protected]).
MIUI Global 13.0.13.
I tried this:
1. Leave phone to discharge to 0 % (to shutdown)
2. Connect charger and charge to 100%
3. Turn on
Problem seems to be fixed now.
I went back to MIUI12 and is very happy with battery life.
