Why is the ROM development taking forever for this phone? I am just an Android enthusiast and have the utmost respect for the devs, but I am contemplating returning this phone for lack of support.

I guarantee that when the gingerbread or icecream sandwich update comes out development will pick up. What we really need right now is a way to get our radio compatible with optimus 3d roms. There's a lot of development for that phone which is identical except for the fact it doesn't support all the same basebands. Its roms work for the Thrill except no 4g and no mms. They have a cyanogenmod project going too.
EDIT: maybe getting some bounties going would help...

I'm not disappointed due to lack of support, as it's a new phone without a lot of hype. I'm REALLY disappointed with the quality control LG is putting out there. I really wanted to like the Optimus 2X/G2X, but they had awful QC. I figured they'd fix it for the 3D, but sure enough, mine is going right back to Amazon for an exchange. 5 hours of battery while idle and a touch screen that's all over the place doesn't instill confidence, nor does the constant rebooting. Everything about this phone screams "PLACEHOLDER!", and it's a shame because it's a solid phone that FEELS great.

Whos getting the Thrill 4G?
I think I may get it. This phone is great and all but GPS blows because of the mfg defect of the back GPS antenna not making contact. This proved a huge pain in the arse Friday when I actually had to use the navigation. In order for it to work correctly I had to keep my finger firmly pressed on the antenna...

The Thrill is my AT&T company phone, I'm an employee, and the battery life is ABYSMAL! If you thought the Inspire was bad, wait til that one comes out. Trust me, don't do it. Trying to setup my Exchange email, battery dropped from 93 to 79 in about 10 minutes of me fiddling with it. All on "4G".

Really? This (http://www.bgr.com/2011/08/17/lg-thrill-4g-review/) and a few others I've read says it's shipping with 2.2 with a promised 2.3 update from ATT. nothing about ICS
1ghz dual core is cool, but only 512mb RAM? running froyo? this doesn't exactly seem like a step forward. and if the battery life is really as abysmal as stated previously, it won't be something i'm interested in

I have already ordered my Thrill 4G from radioshack acouple of weeks ago... supposed to be out this week (sept 4th) now with Gingerbread pre-installed... fingers crossed!!!
my heart isnt set on the 3d asspect... it is the fact that is a dual core dual ram dual channel device... for 79.99 at radioshack and target!!!
thats a good deal... throw a custom rom on there with some optimizations..and there ya go!!!
i am a Samsung junkie i had only one other lg smartphone before... lg incite.. wm 6.1 SUCKED BALLS perfomance wise till i put custom rom on..
actually it was a tough little device.. basically unbrickable.
so if i dont like the lg thrill and really think it isnt worth it... i will take it back and i will get the Infuse... my friend has one that i put a nice rom on and it blows everyphone i have ever played with out of the water...
i love the AMOLED screen and the weight and "slimness"...
anywho,
Good Luck to me... gonna get it Sunday.

From what I've read about the Optimus 3D, even though it has only 512 of RAM, because of the RAM being dual channel it is still suprisingly not laggy, if at all. Yes, it would be smooth as hell if it had more, but reviews have said that 512 of dual channel RAM is not too much of a drawback.

News on the thrill...
Radioshack confirmed today... delays were originally due to the noted screen defect on several devices... secondly getting a manufacturing deal with corning... the makers of gorilla glass... they were supposed to get a deal... looked like they lost it... were considering raising the price... they worked it out and all is well... they also confirmed it will ship with gingerbread update installed....
Congrats to all those patient enough to wait!!!

So over decided I'm going to take my LG Thrill back for the Infuse. The LG build is terrible, the 3D is a gimmick, the battery life is horrible, and I can't stand 2.2.2 with no new roms. And the LCD Display. The Infuse wins and has an LG Thrill. Sorry guys. I'm out. Thank you for everyone that has helped me in the past. Goodbye.

The Infuse is awesome, but wait till tomorrow and get the GS2. The Infuse development is going downhill FAST, all the devs are moving to the GS2.

id say keep the thrill. i have mine and at one point i started hating it. but dam its amazing now. i was throwing it between the infuse and thrill too. in the end its the exact same thing except it has 3d and the dual stuff. plus right now my thrill is soooo fast compared to how fast it was b4 when i did some things to it. battery life is decent. unless ur completely addicted to it, sitting in the closet and paying with it 24/7, the battery life is fine. especially if u order the longer lasting battery.
I think I'm going to keep it now, flashed the Thriller rom and now it seems that I'm fine.

Might as well return it then... GB for O3D wont be rolling out till next week so its probably not likely to be here for thrill for a while. I for one am going to have some patience, but I like the 3D, and can see its potential for more than just games and YouTube videos. So I'm hanging on to my thrill. Plus, I would be surprised if the thrill isn't one of the first phones to get an ICS port. B/c of the similarities to the nexus...

We'll see an ICS port before we see an official GB release for the Thrill...and thats not to say its going to take a long time for ICS. But porting does take some time and patience is a virtue.
But doesn't custom roms 'disables stuff on on phones? Maybe 3D function? (Noob here) I too am thinking of selling my thrill..(got offered $300) n getting a SG note. .what should I do?
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
I really actually like the thrill but #1 its called the LG Thrill 4G and it doesn't even get 4G service (no matter where I go my download speed is never more than 3Mbps with H+ and full signal bars #2 it doesn't have the 3D Games Converter, #3 the Wifi capabilities are under par, #4 the battery life sucks, #5 recording videos in 3D the audio is not synced to the video whatsoever,
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda premium
I for one would keep it because of the features it has. But if you cant wait for the GB and ICS releases then do what you got to .
If you look at the past experience with other phones you will see the ICS port everyone is counting on is further away than you think. Just because it has a similar CPU (they are slightly different, so they may as well be entirely different) as the GN, doesn't mean anything. Look at the captivate. Its basically the same as the Nexus S, made by the same company using basically the same parts, same GPU, CPU, screen (curved vs flat, but both SAMOLED 800*480). There was never a port from the Nexus S. And that phone had two things the Thrill doesn't: a large user base and a large dev base. The captivate only got GB after i9000 GB was built and leaked. The SGS II won't get ICS until the i9100 does. The skyrocket won't get it until att delivers it, there is no international version to port. But Samsung has had the ICS source for months, LG probably got it this week, and now they need to start all over all the work that took them months and months for GB.
Just thought a reality check would help your decision.
On a side note, the skyrocket will only be marginally better than the Thrill in the dev dept. The skyrocket is so different than the other att GS II, or international that you won't get any ports from those devices. If you want to see the future of the skyrocket check the TMo GS II forum, they are basically the same, and any outside ports will come from there. Its a lot of crickets there too. The Skyrocket is the Thrill of the GS II line: niche device with one feature that makes it nice (LTE vs 3D) and many features that made devs pass it over (battery, unique CPU/GPU, and others) and it has a step brother that is also a device with small (yet bigger) user and dev bases (O3D vs TMo GS II).

I'm getting ready to dump this sob of a phone... I mean the battery sucks so bad, I cant go a full day without it dying on me and I hardly ever use it, I'll lock my phone and look at it like 10 min later, when no apps are even running and i'll be down quite a bit of battery (I've had to tone down usage A LOT coming from an Atrix 4g, I could go a couple days with some heavy use and not have to charge it, and now it seems like whenever I get the chance I have no choice but to throw this phone on a charger)
Besides the fact of a poor battery, I've always hated LG, they have crap for customer service and phone support, I figured something might change with this phone, but nope...
I was hoping for a GB update soon, but looks like those dreams are crushed after reading something on LG forums saying they probably won't release a GB update EVER! LG and ATT can go die...
Also the community for the thrill is relativity small and it seems like Dev's have very little to offer or gave up on this phone all together...
I figured I'm going to jump back on board with the Atrix 4G or 2... I'm undecided as of right now
So this is goodbye to everyone else who is in this community and noticed my little efforts in helping Peace

Well besides all the other reasons, did you try getting a different battery. I have no problem getting over a day's life of battery out my thrill with medium useage. The only thing that really kills it are the 3d games. Stock 2.2.2, rooted with about half of AT&ts bloat ware removed. I read somewhere (not sure where) about bad batteries shipped with a lot of these phones.
Yeah, the upgrade part and lack of support are downers, but overall this phone really is good. My uncle got the new Droid Razer and my phone out performed it on all the benchmark tests that we compared head to head.
At the very least, Rogers releasing GB is a sure sign ATTs GB has to be right around the corner.
Captivate (July 2010 release - updated to froyo 8 months later)
Infuse (May 2011 release - updated to gb 8 months later)
See the pattern......it's all at&!
Well I did that Rogers GB update... aside from the huge headache it took to get on my phone and all the crap apps from Rogers and what not...its a solid update. The battery is by far better I can tell you that for sure I'm happy and might just stay with this phone if it holds up tomorrow and on Tuesday...

I for one had a love/hate relationship with my Thrill. Loved it at first....hated waiting for the updates....but over all the phone has been GREAT! I rooted, but kept the stock ROM. Just froze some bloatware. Recently updated to ICS...LOVE IT! I would like to root again to get Tethering and to re-freeze apps, but so the solutions I am finding are too convoluted for me. I want something as simple as it was to root with GB using Megatron Exploit.
My contract is up in a month. I am definitely considering the Optimus G. Not a fan of the S3 form factor. Feels like a toy and don't like the rounded edges.
I love my Thrill but LG and ATT seriously upset me when it comes to updating. And the tools necessary to to modify this phone are ridiculous. Not so bad now that I have tinkered with things, but it look a long time to figure it all out. This phone would be junk if it were not for the few brilliant developers we have that took the time to work around LG's crap. I will probably never buy an LG phone again. I want something with over the air updates and I want to purchase it from a company that actually concentrates on the phones that are already out. Don't even get me started on things like cases and invisishields which you can't even find anymore at places like Best Buy, etc.

I will never ever get another lg phone. The device itself is not bad, the issue is the service from lg themselves. Its nonexistent worst support ever. Im def going to another company when my 2 years is up.
I don't think I would probably go with a samsung s3 or s4 maybe a nexus. I would like to have an sd card though so the nexus probably wont happen. I dont even know what phones lg have out so I do like this phone though plus for a 100 buck and no data plan can't really beat it.
I've never seen such a laggy device. It's bizarre.

They really had no say so in what happened with ICS.
Part of it was AT&T's wrong doing by cutting the contract with LG for a while. They had to renew it before any decision to release another firmware/software was developed.
