so i was watching Death Valley on my Bionic and i found out that while the movie is playing, if you put your finger or thumb over the light sensor the four buttons at the bottom will turn off and your screen will dim. no no no, that's not the cool part... the cool part is when you have your finger or thumb over that light sensor, if you slowly drag it up or down you will notice that you can control your screens brightness through the light sensor, you also get a little notification in the middle of the screen that lets you know the brightness level. just thought i would throw it out there, since i haven't seen it posted anywhere else. sorry for the long write up, kind of excited i was the first to find something new that maybe no one else knew
sounds neat

Hi,
According the the literature the light sensor adjusts the backlight according the the ambient light available.
Is it just me but this doesn't seem to be working and yes 'Auto adjust backlight' is checked.
Regards.
I can actively see this working all the time, if you happen to hold your hand over a bit of the screen you'll notice it slightly fade. I'ts not a major difference but it's def there.

On my TD2 it is working, but the change in backlight are not so obvious, you have to pay attention to see it: the change is not instantaneous, it is gradual (over a 0.5s time maybe), and it does not change much (not as much as the powersaving no-activity backlight level, which is much lower).
The best way I have found to check if it work is to be in a moderately lit room, and cover/nucover the light sensor with your finger. You should be able to notice the small change in backlight level as you cover/uncover the sensor....
BTW, anyone knows if it is possible to tune the backlight level/ ambiant light function? I would like to keep the auto-adjust, but lower the backlight level when it is completely dark to the minimal setting (or even lower), similar to the powersaving level I was talking about above.
This very low level is not nice for watching movies or pictures (it skew the color rendering because white is not white anymore, it is yellowish grey), but I find it ideal for ebook reading in the dark (it saes the battery, it is not tiring for the eye, and it is not bothering for the sleeping beauty sharing my bed when I read late ;-) )

When I move around (indoor/outdoor), the screen brightness is very consistant (and colors are brilliant too), I persume the light sensor worked
but TD2 did not respond to my random playing of the sensor.. the finger trick did not work for me, but i don't care

Maybe a stupid question...but maybe you mistake the LED for the light sensor.
The indicator led is on the left of the speaker grid, the light sensor on the right...if you have ticked automatic in the backlight intensity (parameter/more/alimentatation section, backlight subsection), you should definitely see a change if you are under bright light and cover/uncover the light sensor just right of the speaker grid.
BTW, thanks fort the g-light application, it is working nicely!
Could even save battery, although maybe this is mitigated by having one more background process running for polling the light sensor data...
I've looked but haven't found any info on where the ambient light sensor is located on the Streak. Seems to me that it'd be useful to know so that I don't hold it with my finger on it.
Between the mic and the front cam. thought it was a flash untill I put my thumb on it.
Ok... I've tried my best to comb through the forum, but no one seems to have this issue.
Whenever someone calls me, and after I pick the call up, the dialer would disappear into a black screen upon my touching the screen. And when I lift it, it would appear again, but disappear when I press my finger. This has happened several times over the last 2 months. Sometimes it will happen when I make a call as well.
I have noticed that it happens with or without a screen protector.
Is there a solution to this? Thanks.
The proximity sensor is at The Top right of the screen next to the front camera. It turns the screen off when it detects the phone is at The side of your face, so you don't press buttons during your call.
If your holding your phone upright and your finger covers the proximity sensor during a call it will do the same thing. Just make sure you keep your fingers away from the sensor during a call.
I'm pretty sure the sensor is disabled if the phone is laying horizontal, but not 100% on this.
The sensor also does other cool things, for example, if you use your phone as an alarm, no need to deal with the snooze button, just put the phone face down and it will snooze.

I thought that was the case, but I have been using it (on speaker) away from my face and hands.
Perhaps I should pay more attention to this function before my next post.
Anyone else having issues with the sensors and the moto display? I tend to see it turn on constantly especially in my car, not sure if the street lights are triggering it or that its motion sensitive. Is it supposed to be motion sensitive? I've realized just pushing the phone or shaking what its sitting on turns it on.

That's the point. Any time you move it or act like you may be trying to turn it on it shows moto display. Old X did this too. You do realize it uses like, no battery to show this, and this is the entire point of active display?
The notifications "breathe", too, they turn on and off regularly by themselves.
Gotcha, didn't realize it was sensitive to all motion, just thought the wave over it, the twist to turn on the camera, and just for notifications.
It is a bit disconcerting at first. I have to fight my instinct to worry about the battery and keep very still around the phone to avoid waking it up.
But I guess if it really does consume very little power I should learn not to worry about it.
Hi, I'm running on Epic Global ROM 8.2.1.0, and I have an issue that just started a few days ago. Anytime my hand passes in front of or over the top edge of the screen, the screen goes black, like the proximity sensor is kicking in. It's very annoying when playing games or watching videos. Is there a way to lock it down so that the proximity sensor only works while on a phone call?
I know I experienced a similar difficulty when using Telegram. I began playing a voice recording, but didn't finish it, so whenever my hand was around the top portion of the screen, it turned off and moved to the earpiece etc. Check whether you have anything that is proximity-activated in the background.
