Hi All,
Well, I have just flashed my phone - using the samfirmware site.
A process I have done many times successfully, this time though the process was going well.. through an odin flash. I got to the stage of rebooting, an icon appears like packages are being extracted. It then prompts me for a password at this point (one I do not know). The only things I can do on my phone is enter download mode and flash new roms, I am unable to enter recovery mode or start the phone due to the password prompt, Would anyone know of a way I can get past this..
Help please.
Regards
Muff
If you had setup a pin lock on your phone, try that. Or try entering a random pin number a few times and you will get a message saying your internal sd card will be formatted. This method worked for me before.

Oh! This is a stupid thing ! Happened with me a few days ago when I was flashing 2.3.5 and is nothing ! Just enter anything for 3-4 times and then just flash what you want nothing will happen! It happens because of security apps.! like 'app. Protector pro.' ! Used by you and does not format your SD card!

agreed app protector is a rubbish app.. try formatting ur system

FIX for anyone having "Confirm Password" issue on Boot:-
1) Just enter some wrong password multiple times
2) Then a Warning message will appear telling you it will remove all SD Card data
3) Type something wrong again!
4) Let the SD Card get wiped.
5) Then the system will bootup properly next time.
I just did one more *2767*3855# Full wipe after bootup.

link to the original poster http://goo.gl/hyzin not sure it will work
What on earth?
knowledge is Power. Guard it well.
Could that be the encryption password!!???
I was testing my device against a MDM (Mobile device management) system called Afaria, where I work and have enabled encryption in the policy applied to the device. When I got the enter password dialog box I entered the encryption password and the device accepted the password...
Hey there,
I've got this SGS I9000 of a friend and tried to install a different ROM,
I already did it many times to other GS, though this one seems to be a tough one to crack.
For starters, He did not have the download mode, I've fixed it and placed the files on the SD of the phone.
Then I failed the root through Z4 and SOC, so I did it through Odin.
I got into the recovery (after made it 2e and not 3e), did the root and since then the phone won't got through the "Galaxy S GT-I9000 Samsung" screen.
Enters Download Mode, Enters Recovery, Nothing else.
I already did the factory and cache wipe, still nothing new.
I looked over through all the guides with nothing new, I let the phone "rest" on the screen I've mentioned above, not for 10 minutes, for 8 hours. Still, no cigar.
Any suggestions?
Just go to download mode connect it to pc and flash it via odin

Do you mean flash in the new rom?
Though after I rooted the device it still won't start up, and I havnt backed up the efs yet (through SGS TB).
Is it safe to skip that stage and flashing the rom directly?
I wanted to make sure after I did all the resets the phone still working and all the things I've placed on the SD are still there, and that the settings I've made were still the same.
If i was on your place i would flash it. It is not working so you don't have much to loose except apps, messages and contacts if they are on the phone.

Thats just it, I dont care of contacts messages etc. I already backed em up through KIES.
(Which is closed if I forgot to mention).
The problem is I don't want to lose any important information (thats why I'm eager to backup the efs and check if the root through the recovery worked.)
After I wiped to factory reset wasnt it supposed to start up? (Which I remember from other GS that happened?)
But if you have wiped your device all data is already lost.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
so how do I know if the root worked? The efs Data still supposed to be there (since I realized it's on the SD, and data on SD was not wiped after I saw all the files I placed there still there.)
Any more offers? Anyone?
Pretty Urgent..

Usually that is a password from Sam mobile to unlock the firmware. Try samfirware. com as the password. On there site it tells you there passwords.

Hi
I had similar problem... After first reboot following an Odin flash I was requested to "Confirm password" and got on-screen keyboard. The hint was given after typing wrong password several times - it warned me that my personal data will wiped if make further errors.
So I eventually realized - I had an Exchange account sync set up previously - which required me to type PIN or password to unlock the device. AFAIU, apart from unlocking the screen, it may also be used for encryption of some contents on "sdcard". Installation realizes this and asks for the password... I typed my PIN - it complained that it is wrong - but still went ahead completing the installation.
For some reason I cannot replicate this behaviour again - maybe because I was running ICS before - which has improved security allowing for contents encryption and now I flashed stock Gingerbread. Anyway "Confirm password" screen looks similar to the one used by "Password encryption" (which I was not familiar with using a PIN).
Did you have similar scenario? Did typing previous PIN or password help?
Hello!
I know that I should have done a lot more research before jumping in but here is what happened. I have also looked everywhere in the captivate forums with no luck. I upgraded to stock Gingerbread from Froyo a while back, yesterday I decided that I wanted to root, which I accomplished with Odin. The rooting went just fine, after that I wanted to flash ICS Slim onto my phone, which I soon realized I needed clockworkmod recovery for. After research found out that it doesn't work using ROM manager so I followed a guide to install it and here is where things went sour, following the guide I installed Hardcore’s SpeedMod Kernel it rebooted and it started normally, passing the AT&T bootscreen but now I am completely stuck on the screen after saying "GALAXY S SGH-l897" and on bottom "SAMSUNG". I am able to access the downloading screen and I just do not want to do anymore damage than I have already.
TL;DR: I'm stuck on boot after installing Hardcore's speedmod kernal, able to get on download screen, don't want to do anymore damage. Long story short, what can I do to repair my phone to a usable state?
Google "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to Samsung Captivate" 3rd link down to see the guide that I used.
Thank you for taking the time to help!
I think hardcore speed mod kernel is for froyo/eclair that's why you're boot looping, but clockwork mod should work. Try using the three button combo to get into recovery and flash whatever captivate ICS ROM you chose, assuming you have the file in your internal SD.

thanks for the reply, unfortunately I don't have any ROM on my internal at all, is there a way to flash a ROM from odin or another software? Or do I have to use the clockworkmod recovery to flash it on?
You can mount USB storage from recovery, so transfer the ROM to your sd card that way

Edit: removed cause you beat me to it
Yes, there is a list of stock Odin one click packages in the development forum stickies.

I am trying to mount the USB Mass Storage from ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0, but nothing will appear onto my computer, if I could get this to mount could I flash 2.3.5 using Kies Mini? Would the wipe data/factory reset help me here?
Try reinstalling samsung drivers to get your phone recognized. Since you're on 2.3.5 already, Kies will not let you re-download because it assumes you're on the latest firmware already. Use the Odin one click package. Or heimdall one click.
Don't rush. If you're still unsure keep searching. Read thoroughly so errors won't happen

No wiping will not help you lol. Its better to flash back to 2.3.5 and start fresh.

Thanks for all of the help! I was finally able to mount the phone and transfer the rom, installed it after with little trouble.

I've got the same problem with my phone, but I arrived there thru different means.. I used an app called Kernel Manager Light, and believe I tried flashing something called like Fastloader, or Fast boot loader.. something.. anyways, looked good for a minute, while it flashed it, then rebooted my phone & since then, it doesn't load past a screen that reads "GALAXY S" then smaller and below it "SGH-I897".. then across the bottom, "SAMSUNG".. Totally stuck there, for DAYS. I've been reading these forums for what seems like ever, and this is the closest scenario I've found to my own situation.
I can't get my phone into download mode no matter what I do. I can't get into it thru ADB. All I get is that screen.
In ADB, when I type C:/ADB devices, it will sometimes recognize my device (tho more often than not it won't) and even whwn it does, as soon as I try to access my phone thru ADB, it just freezes up too.. I hit enter, and the cursor drops down to the next line, but nothing ever happens from there.
Someone please help..?

!!! HELP !!! I'm very wet behind the ears when it comes to this!!! HENSE my username. this started after connecting my cap. to a pc with intentions of exporting some pics. that initial (1st) and Only pc notification about detecting a usb device, my cousin sitting down at the monitor clicked outside the bubble message. Now from this point on which was several attempts i would get could recognize device msg. I did not know this was gonna be the results, i can actually remember noticable gliches and flaws progressively worse and worse. icons looking like they had a bulb burning out, awful lag in dialer and or any commands. I know now after reading similar posts my attempts to back-up,recover, i did several restore sessions, wiped data & system in a last ditch effort to get my phone back! i was on the road out of my state. not a comforting situation. I'D REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP! I'M LEARNING AS I CRAWL ALONG HERE, WITH THAT BEING SAID I'M NOT FAMILIAR WITH ALOT OF THE LINGO! symbols , abbreviations , etc:crying:
Ur post is confusing...
What firmware are u on -- Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread ??
Did u get ur pics copied off of the phone and to the pc. Under the Settings in ur phone is a USB connection setting to select for when u want to transfer stuff to ur pc.
If ur phone is still jacked up from the multiple backup and restores u did, then u may just have to do a Factory Reset from the Settings menu to get things back to normal...but do understand that that means all ur pics and other stuff will get erased, etc.
If the Factory Reset doesn't work, then I would say get into download mode and flash a Stock firmware (GB 2.3.5 i897ucKK4 being the latest official) and then proceed forward from there however u want.
See the stickied threads in the Q &A and Dev forums for help with flashin to Stock and Dev Roms.

Hey guys,
Phone was running great for nearly 6 months, was texting last night, then feel asleep when I woke up the phone was stuck at the CWM recovery screen nothing to do.
So I popped in ODIN and wanted to revert to the stock rom which usually always works, PIT FILE 512, PDA,CSC, and PHONE files were inserted, repartitioned... (Its a i9000M btw!)
THe phone rebooted and then when the unpacking started a bunch of 'E:' errors appeared /dbdata and unable to mount whatever..
I tried the PDA "dbdata.rfs" un checking the repartition box, the phone just loops at the i9000M logo (Not the S really the power on screen) it keeps cycling that...
So I tried reflashing couple of times changing pit files (unchecking repartition) I tried WIPING and factory data reset it just hangs at startup...
Any of you guys have any other tips to help me out, was running CM10 for 6 months no problems all day today and all of a sudden its dead... I Think I'm pretty knowledgeable in terms of how this phone works, have fixed and flashed a couple of these phones, help would really be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mat

Mind guiding me to what exactly can help me in here, this is a lot of stuff I haven't touched, I'm aware of basic ADB usage but not more so.
I understand there may be a partition issue?
I'll add a couple of details : So basically the phone just sat at the clockwork recovery, and would not boot, as if something was dead.
I tried a factory data reset, wiping cache all those things failed, it juts came back to clockwork, I plugged it into ODIN, popped a 512 PIT, and a stock I9000M 2.3.3 ROM repartitioned FAIL (bricked)
Unbricked it, reflashed with a 513, that was successful, but it also stopped at the 3e recovery (basically same problem) Unable to wipe or do anything to the card. Reflashed a PDA lots of forums were suggesting to fix these /dbdata errors. That brought me to staying at the GALAXY S I9000M logo it would just cycle and cycle and cycle so I reflashed a stock rom AGAIN 512, 513, 803 they all passed, first times the UNPACKING PROCEDURE FAILED, then it succeeded THEN, there would appear a short error saying it couldn't write the LOG, reset the phone now it hangs at the LOGO..
Thanks
PS. Why does a fully functioning phone, suddenly 'DIE'
I mean I'm reading through this and most of this stuff needs to be done in ADB right?
How do i get ADB To connect to a device that can't get into Android? please help
u can also read here, this are list of most problem occur n da suggested solution, juz take ur time reading, its good for u
