[Q] Android Market Missing - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I've installed Cyanogenmod on many devices of mine and friends, but:
recently, I upgraded one of my friend's nexus one from stock OS (2.2) to the latest nightly.
1. installed Amon's recovery
2. made nandroid backup
3. made titanium backup of apps and system data
4. wiped data
5. flashed CM nightly 177 with latest Gapps
6. restored titanium backup (apps first, app data and system data afterwards)
now:
1. market was working fine, then suddenly it vanished!
2. based on advises from XDA and cyanogenmod, I tried below things:
wiped market data, no success
re-installed Gapps, no success
using android mate (root file explorer), installed vending.apk again, which successfully restored market for about 5 minutes, and then market vanished again
tried deleting data through system/data/com.google.android.vending
tried fix permissions through rom manager
factory reset of phone solved the problem, but restoring titanium backup again corrupted the market app
did all of above things for market updater as well
Anyone can give me a workaround?
Thanks

sounds to me like the problem is with something you restore with titanium backup. i would suggest restoring each app, etc one at a time untill you find what causes it to give you the problems with you have

Are you using a2sd? I have had this problem when running MIUI. It always happened when I ran the command "a2sd reinstall" The market seemed to be moved to the sd-ext, but there was something wrong with my partition. Because of this I lost all my apps that were moved to the ext.

It's possibly a combination of the latest market update being installed on /data (you may need to integrate it into /system with Titanium), and apps on /data being moved to SD...

[Q] Backing up/restoring apps

I've been running Cog 2.2B7 ever since it first came out. I like it fine. But I am thinking of maybe going with a Perception rom to try out the HSUPA and built-in lag fix. I've accumulated tons of apps on my phone.
What is the best way to save the state of my phone so after flashing to a new rom I can restore it quickly without having to go and download 50 or so apps all over again.
I have Titanium Backup, but havent really used it much for backing up/restoring apps. Last time I used it I backed up all the AT&T bloatware apps then uninstalled them. However I was unable to re-install them from the Titanium backups. So, I thought it was a waste.
I also have the premium version of ROM Manager. I've made several Nandroid backups but everytime I go to restore one of those backups the restore process crashes, every single time.
I guess all in all, I have had **** for luck with backing up and restoring.
Any advice or instructions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Most of the ROMs have a wipe and nowipe version. If you install the no wipe version, all your apps and settings are still present after flashing. If you need to install a wipe version, Titanium backup is the best thing.. Here are the steps:
1. Open Titanium Backup
2. Click Menu button -> batch
3. Run backup all user apps (or user apps + system data - maybe dangerous)
4. It gets backed up in the internal SD card (My Files Home) in the folder Titanium backup.
5. Copy this folder to the PC or external SD, coz master clear would clear the internal SD card.
6. After flashing, copy the folder to the internal SD card (if it's not already present coz of master clear)
7. Open Titanium Backup.
8. Click Menu button -> batch
9. Run Restore Missing apps +data (or missing apps +system data)
10. Voila!! done!
6.

Point to add:
Do NOT restore system data on different versions of ROMs. Some of them tend to fail, and this could cause FCs.
Even when restoring apps data, be careful. When u r moving between android versions, it would recommended to install just the apps, and not data. There is a high possibility of data location changes in db between versions.

Issues with CM 7

So after a few hours of tinkering I've figured out how to update to CM 7. But is there a way to keep my previous programs that i used in CM 6.1? It seems that theyve all disappeared and re-installing them would be a hassle.
going from cyan 6 to cyan 7, do really dont need to wipe. so you can just upgrade and all your data and apps will carry over and be in tact just as they were before.
when changing between different ROMs, like cyan to enom, you have to wipe. at that point the google servers auto install all your paid and free apps the first time you boot up and log in to your phone. but titanium backup should be used if you want to carry over the actual app data and whatnot.
hopefully you did a nand backup of your cyan 6 ROM so you can just switch back to that backup, then either upgrade to cyan 7, or titanium backup all your apps, then go back to 7.
Yeah, to get your programs back, just restore your backup and go back to CM6.
Once there, just flash CM7 and Google Apps on top of it without any wiping. Everything should stick around then. If you don't wipe, then you won't lose your apps.
It is possible to flash CM roms over previous versions but to be safe and avoid any chance of problems I always do a full wipe before flashing.
I backup all of my apps and CM settings using Titanium Backup. Then when I install a new CM RC or Nightly, I can restore everything within a few minutes.
Here's my suggestion,
(a) restore a backup of CM6.1 (if you have one)
(b) install Titanium Backup
(c) Backup all apps and user data (TB offers a "Batch" button which backs up everything in one button press)
(d) wipe data, cache, dalvik, etc.
(e) flash CM7 and Gapps
(f) reinstall TB from the market
(g) Batch restore all apps and data in one click.
(h) enjoy.
It usually only takes me 10-15 minutes total to do all the above.

[Q] Messed up my best friends SGS, please help!

My best bud was complaining about how slow his stock SGS was so I decided to help as I've fixed about 20 phones now without any issues! Until now!
Problem
Lost Contacts which were stored to phone memory
Lost memos
Almost all programs are Force Closing
History
Installed clockwork recovery as per Cyanogen Wiki page (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide)
Then using the new SpeedMod kernel by Hardcore, I rooted the phone and also converted the file system to EXT4 to ensure the lagfix worked nicely
The Recovery automaticalled generated a Nandroid back-up before the file system conversion took place.
When phone started, a lot of programs Force Closed, so we ran a Fix Permissions and this solved most problems. However, a few days have passed and now the phone is constantly FC. The loss of contacts and memo's was annoying but he wasn't too bothered as had various back-ups
So I tried a Nandroid restore which works apart from system.img which it cannot find.
I wonder if the system.img backup doesn't work since the file system was changed to EXT4? Do you think if I push the nandroid backup using ADB, it will successfully restore the phone with contacts and memo's too?
That's why I never touch someone else's phone. Always something goes wrong that never gone on my phone.
Sounds like you need to do...
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
...in clockworkmod to make a clean install.
If your friend didn't set up a syncronisation in "Accounts and sync" between google and the phone, AFAIK you cannot revert back contacts and memos
After turning the file system to EXT4, it removes backups.Because its not a nandroid backup. Just backing up your files before the partition formatting. So, no luck.
I'm not a android expert, so I might be wrong about it.

i9000 bootloop because of data

Hi everyone!
After a year or so of using cm7.2 on the i9000 i'm now facing a reproducible boot loop:
As it occured the first time, i made a nandroid backup via cwm, did a factory reset and reinstalled cm7, which resolved the bootloop. As i restored the data from the nandroid backup, the bootloop occured again and kept doing so when i tried the whole procedure again.
Is there any way to get the data (SMS/Contacts/Apps etc.) back without the bootloop?
Every suggestion is highly appreciated, thanks in advance!
According to Google, SMSs are stored in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db, and contacts are stored in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/contacts.db (but they should be synced to your online Google account). Apps are stored all over /data/data I think.
i have accessed the backup via yaffey and found it, thanks.
the following might be a stupid question, but: how can i insert the exported files into the fresh flashed cm7?
Titanium Backup only let me restore the system files, but nothing from data/data :/
You could try to overwrite it (after backing up the current files) but I don't really know. I suspect these are simple Sqlite databasefiles.

[Q] Titanium Backup

Hi guys!
Yesterday I unlocked my bootloader, installed CWM and SuperSU. Today I installed the Titanum backup and started backuping. Now I wonder how to restore the backups if the app was deleted once? Let's say I want to install a custom ROM and it wipes all my data. How can I restore the backups I did today?

Reinstall TiBU from the Play Store after you installed the custom ROM. In TiBU, locate the backups you've made (preferably in a safe location on your external SD) and restore the apps/settings you want. Be careful though, because not all settings/apps will work on a different ROM.
Please visit the TiBU website for further info:

With TB Pro you can generate a CWM flashable TB install ZIP
What I do :
- TB backups are on a SDCard
- TB backups are copied on an external HDD from time to time and always before Rom upgrade
- TB flashable ZIP is generated at every TB update and ZIP copied to external HDD
Doing this allows me to update Rom without stress. I always also do a Nandroid backup just in case
One may say I'm paranoid but doing this way I never lost any data or software and always restored from a crashed Rom update
BTW : always remember TB needs root so this is a prerequisite !

/storage/sdcard0 (Internal)
/starage/sdcard1 (SD Card)
By default TB puts backups in /sdcar0/TitaniumBackup. If you uninstall TB your backups will remain making it a great tool when wiping/switching ROMs. Once TB is re-installed it will read your backups from that folder and you will be able to perform restore functions within the app.
If you do a factory wipe (aka full wipe) in TWRP (not sure about CWM) neither /sdcard0 or /sdcard1 will be touched.
As @Howell has pointed out there are many ways to backup your backups, and restore backups. TB has many options and ways to backup/restore your data. Similar to Howell, every couple weeks I will copy both /sdcards to my computer for safe keeping. If you buy the pro version (recommended) then you can schedule backups, and have more than one backup of an app - I have found multiple backups useful if an update to an Xposed module breaks certain functions since they aren't always device specific.
Typically I do not backup any system apps or data because as @Don MC pointed out these don't always restore properly when switching ROMs (even if it's an update to the same ROM). SMS/MMS data is an exception I guess. I have a few system apps such as my lockscreen.apk and SystemUI.apk backed up, but only because they conflicted with some Xposed modules.
