Do I only need to full wipe from recovery and flash NOVA v8 from SD? Or do I have to use the new recovery method, install stock v10d and then Nova? I don't want to brick my phone

If you still have CWM on boot, then it should fine to direct flash Nova v8.

What version of CMW do you have? Did you do a Full Wipe?
And for better compatibility be sure to come back to ext3 with backtoext3.
Im using chucknorris custom ROM..
I already tried backtoext3

Yes, what version is your recovery? Where you flashes ROMs?

Do not use CWM touch recovery and you should be fine!
Maybe you could try to re-root your phone. I had the same problem and I figured it was because it wasn't rooted properly. What program did you use to root your phone?
Im using 5.0.2.0 without Touch.

I don't know what "Tor stock" is..
But when you try to flash Nova, what settings do you install? (In Aroma installer) And what rc version?
Latest rc
Aroma installer on default

As far as I know Nova HD had some issues with flashing with full wipe. You can try to flash it 2 ways:
1. Flash NovaHD with full wipe and then flash it once again WITHOUT wipe. This should do the job.
2. Make a full wipe in CWM and then flash NovaHD WITHOUT wipe.
Hope it helps.

So much smattering out here
formatting /sytem before flashing?
useless... nearly every rom-package runs its own format command for /system, so its bullsh* to do it manually before.
if you want to get sure that /data is ext formatted, just use the format or datawipe option of cwm.
rooting makes problems?
cmon! the "rooting" is just for being able to install cwm, not for using it.
cwm will always have root when its flashed once.
the missing root part in stock roms is missing in the stock kernel, not in the phone itself.
do your wiping/formatting before you flash any rom, if you wanna clear all system relevant partitions.
some rom-flashables are writing into /data and when you do the data wipe after that, it will delete those stuff again.
if you have any bootloop problems after flashing its a kernel or /data problem.
try to mount /data in cwm, if it fails you know what the the problem is.
remove battery, hold vol-down, power keys when you put the battery back in, to get back into cwm and try to format /data until your data partition is fine again.
if the bootloop is still there try another kernel.
If i use smartflash tool to root my phone then boot into cwm and make a nandroidbackup then full wipe and flash su zip can i restore the data from my nandroidbackup and have my game data and stuff left?

I think that smartflash wipes evrything during the procedure so there will be no data when you will enter cwm. So guess this won't work if you want to keep your data.

Once you are back safely in GB I would recommend you doing wipes to clear out eventual leftovers.

Ya once back to gb safe and have working cf root boot into recovery and do wipes to remove any leftovers
And I wouldn't restore back up from ics to gb I'd start a fresh but that's me
I suppose you mean titanium backup. That can be restored, no problem.
I assume you havent flashed paranoid yet because you said yesterday in Pm that you are yet to root.If thats the case, after you have rooted and flashed cf-root kernel, take a nandroid backup and then continue flashing paranoid.
When you wish to revert back to rooted stock gb,just restore the nandroid backup and you will return to rooted gb rom.Now donot try this method in any ICS roms except Paranoid,asylum,cm9,MiUi

Its CWM backup. The backup you do in recovery after installing custom recovery. After you flash cf-root kernel,do this:
1.Turn off mobile.
2.Hold vol up+home+power.
3.when you see the screen, remove power butoon but keep holding other two.
4.Now you will see the cwm recovery.
5.Use vol up and down button to navigate and home button to select.
6.Now go to backup and restore and press home button to enter.
7.press backup
8.Now your it backups your present rom
To restore,do this:
steps 1-6 are same as backing up
7.press restore
6.choose the backup you want to restore.
BTW you can use CWM apps which comes along with cf-root kernel also to take the backup
this means i can backup any rom i wish??
nd from paranoid can i go directly to th rooted gb backup??
or do i need pc odin to do tht??

Yes you can go to rooted gb backup directly from paranoid without the need for PC.That means no odin and even no mobile odin .But I said above,Donot do not try it in any ICS roms except the ones I mentioned....

For your information, after u downgraded to gb rom. Your phone might facing fc problem when 1st reboot and have no chance to set up the rom.
Dont panic, just pull out the battery , put it back boot into stock cwm mode and do full wipe. Then you be fine.
Good luck.

You will lose applications and don't forget to wipe cache/dalvik if you face any problem in you phone after installing GB rom by going it in recovery.

i've been having this problem since i switch to ics.
when i try to revert back to abyss4.2 so i can try to install other ics rom, i get stucked.
what works is i try to restore my GB nandroid backup, then it reboots and hangs, i switch it off, then boot at recovery and walah!
im back to my GB cwm, then i can install abyss4.2 and proceed with ICS rom flash.
that's how i always do it, i hope someone can advise a better way..http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/redface.gif

I have obtained root and my bootloader is unlocked (both the hidden menu and whilst in s/w download mode confirm this) also i have cwm recovery running with unsecure boot img, the problem is when i flash anything (from my external sd) all i get is bootloops! Is it possible i have missed something?
Thanks for your time guys!

1. make a backup (on external SD)
2. wipe data/factory reset
3. wipe cache
4. advanced >> wipe dalvik cache
5. flash ROM

What about your CWM version? The latest is 6.0.3.1. Incorrect version results in disasters
Sent from my Optimusx4 using Tapatalk 2
@tomkasz forgot to say i do a complete data wipe before flashing! Didn't clear my dalvik before (thanks for pointing that out mate!) @hernest my current version is 6.0.2.8, so im guessing i need to update my recovery? If so can i just use the clockworkMod app from google play and do it that way?
Am i right in thinking that because im on v20a at the moment that i need to flash a JB ROM? Or can i flash an ICS without having to downgrade via KDZ first?
Thanks for your help guys!

In order to flash ICS you have to use LG Flash Tool. There is a thread on xda showing how to do it step by step.

Your Recovery version is the culprit, then. Just install ROM Manager via Play Store and update your recovery to the latest version. Your life will be much easier in terms of flashing ROM.
To roll back to stock ICS from JB is quite a task and can't be done by simply flashing ICS based ROM. There's a thread on general section dedicated to this topic, you might want to do some research before doing so. Like the previous post said, there are no fully compatible ICS based custom ROM. Anyway, I think this device is much better in JB. Why would you revert back?
