holster case - Motorola Droid 3

anyone else have the holster case and hear/feel it grinding when they open the keyboard?

Yes that happened to me it eventually caused the keyboard to come a bit loose. Returned that one for another reason and then realized what happened and the new one was much tighter. I dont use the case anymore, got an otterbox.

I just got mine today, and it doesn't seem to be grinding or anything at all.

Mine doesn't grind, but the slider is more rigid and takes a little more effort. on another note it fits into the car mount so long as the car mount insert is removed.

[Q] Need a Car Mount works with seidio innocase ii?

Hello all,
I love my seidio innocase ii and holster combo. I am looking for a car mount that will work with the case and allow charging too. I went by VZW today and looked at their Incredible Case. As stated in the other thread you can't use any case with it. I purchased a OEM air vent car mount, but the charging socket is blocked unless you slide your phone up in the grips (the two grips have holes cut out in the middle). I don't really like this one because the release button is at the top behind the phone. Not this one, but very smiler http://tiny.cc/eahgk
I would like to find one that can turn 90 degrees with a ratcheting action that the car charger can work with.
Bright Idea
I'm thinking about cutting up an old leather belt and gluing a small loop of it on the dash so I can clip my Seidio case on it. I'll let you know how it works out.
Just kidding dbrown! I am seriously eying the universal holder from http://www.proclipusa.com/ which definitely covers the usb port but I'm picturing a hole or slot cut through the side to fix that. All the other universal stuff looks HUGE
Why go for a universal holder when they have one made specifically for the DInc? Unless you have other devices you are planning on using with this. I just don't like their mounting spots for my vehicle, too bad too =/.

We're looking for a holder that will work with the phone and case. I don't want to take the phone out of my case every time I need to mount it on the dash of my car.
I just got this:
amazon.com/gp/product/B003H92LSA/ref=oss_product
But I'm not satisfied with it. Cause to the short neck, The screen is head to the top of my head, and it's not very easy to get my phone on it.
Look for a better mount, still.
i've always used this gooseneck windshield mount from verizon.
you can find it by not specifying a phone under view all mounts..
Part #WINDMNT1
19.99
it fits most all phones ever made, plus cases.....
i have my inc in it tilted so i can access the touch screen keyboard...
i got a universal one from bestbuy and it works pretty good
I have one of these on the way. http://www.clingo.com/car-mounts/universal-hands-free-mount
I think that I would like to the get TETRAX XWAY to mount my DInc. Since I'm a new member I can't post links. Sorry.
I did see a nice video review and it seems like it would work perfectly because you can leave the phone in its case.
my friend got a car dock at the vzw store, the clip part the phone goes into is actually a removable belt clip. you can remove it from the car dock completely and put it all on your belt, pocket, whatever you wanna clip it to. however, there's no case involved in that package. i'm sure seidio has a case/clip you could mod to work with a similar product as i described first.
My plan is to get the car mount from htcpedia and the innocase holster for the Surface. Then either switch out the belt clips (hopefully), or just use my dremel on the innocase holster belt-clip to cut out the same as the mount's beltclip.
A little more expensive, but seems to be the best "factory-type" option I can come with.

I have one of these too, it's awesome! If you want a mount that doesn't stick on the windshield AND works with a case...this is the way to go.
Hello,
I really like the xway too, but not sure if it would work with the inocase II. The case has a ridge that runs down the length of the back of the case. I went with this..
http://bit.ly/9lOy6V. I got the sm410 and currently using the vent grip. Its a little big, but does put the dinc with arms reach if needed. And the power cord is not blocked.

I have the same one, picked it up from microcenter
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0281093
works well with my innocase active. but sometimes when you secure the dinc in place the mounts grips will press the volume button. its not too hard to position it in the middle of the rocker so it wont adjust it, and it not a problem once you have it set in there.
would buy again
I've tried several different mounts and haven't been happy with any, until now. I picked up a couple of the SoundGate M2 universal docks from wiredforless.com and could not be happier. The install was simple, once mounted it looks great and folds down into almost nothing. I don't know if it's still available, but I used discount code WOOT and got two of the mounts and shipping for $14.95.
AND, it works great with the Seidio case I have.
Great product, couldn't be happier.

i position the left clasps to the bottom and the right ones to the center.. that ensures the volume button doesnt get pressed.

You can switch out the belt clip on the car kit holster with the Seido clip, I've done it. Just tap out the pins in both clips, place the spring back in between the clip and the holster and tap one of the pins back in. Works like a charm. Now I'm trying to get all the audio and charging done with a modified 12 pin micro usb from the TV OUT cable.
I did reviews on these:

Highly recommend these and I use with my Seidio II.

VZW car mount for incredible

It's amazing! Best custom mount I've owned. And the clip that holds the phone is also a removable belt clip. There's a punch out for the camera, been driving around with layar turned on. It is win.

There are two versions available from the Verizon store. The one you linked to and one other. They both have one big issue. If you already have a protector for your phone that you like, it will not work unless you take your protector off. The one you linked to has one other issue, it uses double sided tape to mount. The other one I looked at had a suction mount, but as I said, it will not let you put your phone on it unless you remove any protector you are using.
the one linked is the one i'm talking about. i haven't found it on the VZW website anywhere, didn't think to look anywhere else. i don't use a case or anything full time, i ordered an otterbox for when i'm working to wear on my belt, but when i'm not i just throw the phone in my pocket and run. i wish seidio came out with a car mount like this that worked with one of their cases, that would be epic. i'm sure with a dremel tool you could make it work if you were so inclined.
I have this one
I bought this with my incredible when I first got it. before 30 days was up the clip broke. I took it back and got it replaced. Then a couple of weeks later the new one broke in a different place. I hadn't even taken the new one off the car mount and worn it on my belt. I ended up cutting off the clip and gluing the clip to the mount so that it became a car mount only.

where did it break?
i'm wondering if there's a way i can use another company's clip and case without having to remove it. thinking of getting the seidio innocase and clip or something like that, maybe just cut the little tab off of the car mount clip and using that on whatever one i end up getting.
I don't want or use the belt clip, just adds another point of movement to the system. There's no happy medium with adjustments, you either get it where you want it and tighten it down to no flexibility, or it is way too loose. Due to the way the suction cup is engineered, the act of placing the phone or removing it from the clip torques the suction, causing it to fall off all the time. Was not at all impressed.
I have this mount I just pictured. I find it reliable. I do not use the belt clip.. I always leave that on the mount.
I have never used phone cases on any of my cell phones for 12 yrs.. I only have a screen protector..
Dinc goes in my phone pocket. My designated pocket only for my phone.. Not change or car keys..
Carefull
I have one of these.. or I should say I've had 2 of these. First one broke after about 8 seconds of being up and I tried to rotate the phone, and the hing that holds the clip on snapped.
Took it back to Verizon they swapped it out... had the second one a month or so and went to remove the phone and clip from the stand... and the plastic washer that holds the clip to the mount broke.... I now have it zip tied and it works great.
I was not rough with it, its just very fragile. Otherwise a good mount.
I've had 2 and the first one broke within a week. The clip that hooks into the mount broke and wouldn't mount. The second one I had for a few days before it broke. The one the hinge went. I didn't bother trying to replace it again. They did swap it out, but if two break that quickly, I figure I'll just keep having the same problems.....
Add me to the "it's too darn fragile" camp. I ended up buying a third-party "one size fits all" type... They lie too, but it works. I just have to adjust it so the volume key isn't being squashed. (also, no cut out for camera)
2 broken clips at hinge and counting.
Same here, my clip hinge broke both times. I just have it sitting there in the car driving down the road and the phone just falls off and the hinge is broken. I think the plastic is too thin, should be a metal part, and the spring tension always on it fatigues it. Bad design.
I went to verizon and told them I wanted their generic mount and they handed me this:
http://www.amazon.com/Bracketron-PH...r_1_41?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1285511830&sr=8-41
The one Verizon actually sells is slightly different as the little bottom nodes that hold the phone phone sits on can be bent in and thus you can move the phone around. I will have to take a picture of mine. Anyways even with a case it fits perfectly and its only like $20 and if you have the corporate discount which gets you 25% off it runs about $16.70 total after taxes which is what I bought it for.

So which one would you recommend? I plan on doing a lot of driving up and down I-95 to visit friends in Maine/NH/PA/MD/VA and would love having Google's "Navigator" mounted on my windshield instead of having it sitting in a cup holder (like I do now). I'll be careful with any mount I get, but those universal mounts are just too bulky and a lot of them mess with the volume controls or doesn't leave me a space to plug the phone into my lighter outlet (or have weird mounting points, like in one of the air vents).

Like I said, I leave the belt clip mounted at all times, and the only protection I use for my phone is my special pocket and a screen protector.

I just bought it on a whim today and it is definitely great. Way better than the staples generic one that broke in the first 2 weeks
Wife and I both have one. Both broke right away. Replacements also broke. Always in the same place, the hinge for the clip snaps. The spring is simply way too powerful for the strength of the plastic. On the replacements I just slathered epoxy all over the hinge to make it a permanent mount. Neither one of us were using it for anything other than the car dock, but the thing just breaks like a cheap wine glass.
So in my experience they were 4/4 for breaking within 3 weeks. It's a great dock, but you just have to expect it to break unless you do what I did and glue the living crap out of it.
ive had my verizon mount for about 2 weeks now, my only complaint is that it has a removable belt clip. Ive tried different locations around my windshield and since I play with it so much, the clip has wiggled loose a time or two. other than that, its been better than any mounts ive tried to hack together for it.
TL;DR good mount, bit pricey

Streak + Mogotalk xd bluetooth/case/charger mod

Hi all,
I have recently switched to the Streak from owning all models of the iphone, and have not looked back. Such an awesome device, and android is great. Anyways, I had owned a case for my 3gs and Iphone 4 called the Mogotalk xd. It is a bluetooth/case/charger that keeps an extremely thin and very good bluetooth on the back of your phone. I have missed it very much, especially since the streak is huge and could really benefit from one of these...The product is very smart, and very thin...but this isn't a review, so you can check it out their site, which I can't link yet...just google or youtube it...
I contact ID8 support to ask if they would be making these cases for other devices, and they replied back that they would not. So, I decided to mod mine for my streak, and post it here in case anyone else wants to do the same. It came out very well I think, and was very easy...extremely useful...
I started by removing the felt lining (just peeled out), then, after messing around a bit, decided to just take an exacto knife to the rubber for the sides of the iphone. I cut right along the back of the case, so as to have a close fit. Pics attached ( I also cannot link pictures yet :-C)
I have 2 battery covers, so I then attached it with double sided tape (temporary, as I am looking for some way incorporate a kickstand next). I lined up the top of the case with the top of the battery cover. It still slides on fine. If someone wanted to, they could probably dremel the top of the case to fit perfectly on the battery cover, as the camera hole unfortunately is horizontal...and there are no electronics on the top half (bottom has charging port) The only thing you really lose is a few millimeters of thickness...but this thing is thin (still fits tightly in the car dock from dell) And now I have bluetooth that charges on my phone and is always with me. Really easy to do, and definitely worth it if you like talking on your phone, as this can be difficult with the streak. Let me know if you have any questions...you can pick this up on amazon or other sites for around 40-45 dollars..its worth it..
One thing to be careful of there is the battery compartment door. There's a power switch inside the Streak that's activated by a pin on the door and if the door moves your Streak will power down. This is a known problem with nothing on the door so I don't know how yours will behave with the extra weight/bulk hanging off it. I know good comfortable earpieces are hard to find so maybe you could incorporate the BT holder into another case instead of attaching it directly to the streak?
I thought about that, and it would be very easy for someone who wanted a case...however, I do not...The Case/bluetooth is extremely light, and for some reason, the battery cover now fits much more tightly in place..its not going anywhere...It would be really easy to just cut out out the back of a case, especially a silicone one, to fit...or to cut the top half as I said before and fit it into a hard case...

Your thoughts on magnetic holsters

Im looking for a holster, i found some but most have a magnetic closure. Im not sure if its ok for our phones so i just wantes your thoughts or experience with it. I use samsung pay every day and i dont want any sensor to be off because of the magnets.
Maybe im a little paranoid over it because it probably takes an extremely powerful magnet to cause any harm but im not willing to test it out lol
None of the magnetic items for the phones will cause any harm to your phone.
You may notice that the stylus doesn't work where the magnet is, but it will work just fine when you move the magnet.
As a Samsung Experience Consultant, I do not recommend anything magnetic, I think they mess with the device internals.

You do know many manufacturers use magnets in their devices and accessories, including Samsung and Apple, right? Every Apple smart case / cover utilizes magnets and (as much as I love Android) I can honestly think of no more reliable tablet than the iPad.

You think or you know?
You should only be putting out info if you know. If you don't know, and it is clear you don't, then you should not speak on a subject.
Magnets will in no way harm the phone unless you are using super powerful magnets, what you use to hold the phone to a dock and things like that won't bother it in the least bit.
I do not recommend any of the Samsung Flip Cases to customers because I have seen them cause problems with devices before. I do not recommend magnetic closures because I have seen them cause problems with devices.

It seems strange that Samsung would release a product that would interfere with one of its flagship products and sell it as an accessory.

I'm not sure if this is specifically what you're asking about, but I've been using a Scosche MagicMount (http://amzn.com/B00I608BJ8) for my car dash and love it! I lay the larger metal plate (it comes with two sizes) at the bottom of my case, oriented where the longer sides are parallel to the bottom of the phone (let me know if you need a picture). I don't stick the plate to my phone, but rather set it inside my case. It turns out to be the perfect length and height for the Note 5. Wireless charging and Samsung Pay still work great. I used that picture of the Note 5 where someone made the back of transparent to make sure the wireless charging coil inside the phone does not over lap with the metal plate that comes with the mount.
I bought a nice leatherette case for my Note 5 only to find that the S-Pen does not work on the right hand side where the magnet is. I took it off immediately and went back to my Body Glove case.

I purchased a wallet case on eBay. I noticed there were areas on the screen that wouldn't work. When I flipped the removable phone case there were 6 magnets...three on each side to hold the phone in the wallet. These magnets are small, but the impact was terrible! I I'm attaching pictures of me using the s pen to find the areas on the screen and the back of the phone case.

Like I said. "Magnets will in no way harm the phone"
This isn't harming your phone, it does do as you have seen which is a TEMPORARY issue and has already been discussed, it will cause no permanent harm to the phone.
I don't know about magnetic holsters but magnetic car mounts most definitely YES. I've used many holsters over the years, for all kinds of types of phones. I haven't really thought about it till I saw this post. My buddy has a good magnetic car mount for his s7 edge, but I don't really know anyone at the moment that's using a magnetic holster. Just my opinion though, the last time I used a holster was way back in January and it was actually pretty good. It was a best buy branded platinum, with kickstand holdster and case like a 3 in kind of deal but not magnetic. It fit could on my belt clips for my jeans and suit pants. Good luck
bought the Bracketron brand at best buy, the magnetic part is on the mount, it is a metal plate stick to your phone so no interference from the magnet, not owning a note 5 tho.
I put in some small tin paper cutouts INSIDE my note 5. I took the back cover off, peeled the sticker with the color/logo and spraypainted it a nice black then just glued the tin paper inside of that. Then I took a flat wireless charger and added neodymium magnets to it, modded it to be as small/thin as possible then covered it up with some black thin leather I bought from Michaels. I mounted it up to my car's console and now I just plop the phone onto it and it sticks tight and fast charges, no wires or case. Worked perfectly, but in hot weather the leather would become a bit slippery so it would slip off, but I fixed that with a couple of very small circular double sided gel tape on the bottom just to provide a bit of friction. I've ridden like this for the past 5 or 6 months and it doesn't slip or fall off at all, heavy bumps, hot weather, nothing dislodges it.
The only thing that doesn't work is the spen, and that's only directly over the magnets, but I wouldn't write on it anyway while it was mounted. Otherwise I've had zero difficulties with it. I'll post up pics if anyone is interested, but it's a bit frankenstein looking.

LED Case (not a review)

Got my Samsung LED wallet case today. Aside from the fact that this one closes more "securely" (doesn't lift up from the face without gravitational assistance), it's really no different from the Note7 and S7 Edge LED cases that I've previously owned. Very cool, nonetheless.
I forgot to mention that, while I'm not at all surprised that wireless charging works as expected with this case, I was quite pleased to find that there is no need to remove the note from the LED case to use the DeX Dock. It fits and works perfectly.
I wanted to get it but opted for the S-View case. I'm weary of spending the money on it because of the crappy ribbon that failed twice on the S7E last year.
Question on the LED case
Sorry to dig up an old thread but I thought you might be able to help me. I am about to purchase the Note 8 and I am looking at the LED case as I want to protect the screen of the phone.
In my vehicle I use a phone mount, RAM X-grip to be specific. If I open the case do you think I can continue to use this phone mount or will it distort the case and cause issues?
If it will cause issues can you use a magnetic mount with this case or will it interfere with the operation of the case or phone having a magnet on the rear of the phone?
Thanks for any help you can provide, I am just trying to figure this all out before I get the phone.
1. There is delicate electric ribbon from back to front part of the cover. Putting strain on the opened cover may damage the electronic connection and stop LEDs functioning well
2. I would advice against to connect any magnet to the phone (via case or directly) as it may/will interfere with S-pen/digitizer and wireless charging.
I have LED cover on Note 8 myself (like I did on Note 4) and I change cover to a simple non-flip case in the rare instances I use phone for navigation in rental cars. Other than that my phone is in center console. My only use in my car is through car infotainment system (play music, answer calls, have incoming messages read to me) so no need to present screen in holder (distracting and therefor dangerous anyway)

I definitely wouldn't put it in the RAM X-grip with the case folded back because that would not be good on the ribbon as mentioned. I do use mine with a magnet mount in both my vehicles and sometimes for hands free use in the shop and LOVE it. Its so easy to just toss it on there anytime effortlessly with not even really looking. I can never go back.
Magnet will not interfere with the case at all but it will cause a distortion field for the S-pen but all things considered you really shouldn't be using the S-pen while you driving anyways. :good:
Can you tell me which magnet mount you have. I purchased one and put the metal strip between the phone and case and the magnet simply is not strong enough to hold the phone securely. My vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler, so the ride is a bit bumpy. The phone would barely stay put sitting in the driveway, so definitely not going to hold up to driving.
I've tried the X-Grip and actually the curved rubber pads on the X-Grip actually press against the hard plastic shell portion around the phone and not really against the soft spine of the case. I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens. If the LEDs fail I will report back to say I should've listened

I use THIS one in my wifes SUV. Its not as strong as the one in my truck, but where I have it positioned it rests on top of the vent turn wheels and is supported perfectly. I've never had it move while driving. Even if I don't get it centered on the magnet just right its never moved.
THIS is the one I use in my truck and its noticeably stronger than the Spigen in my wifes car. My truck is an F250 with 6" lift offroad kit and giant mudder tires that beat the hell out of you just driving down the road and my phone doesn't budge on this mount *as long as you snap the phone on centered* If you place the phone off centered it will start to tilt a little after you've been driving for a bit. I did take it off road just a little bit and really gave it some good vibrations to see if I could make it fall and I was unable to get it to pop off of there.

Any other alternative car mounts for those with official led cover?
