Hello all.... I have the opportunity to trade my Dell Streak 5 (unlocked), for a Galaxy Tab (7-inch version). It's a US aTnT version running stock firmware. I'd really like to have it..... but I would need it to work as a phone (using headphone), and on T-Mobile.
I don't have a grasp of the nuts and bolts in these matters, and upon some light research, I see this process could easily overwhelm me.... Question is this: Would it be worth the trouble to root, enable phone feature and then unlock it or should I just keep looking? Thanks all!

I just got on to see the same thing. I have unlocked rooted T-Mobile Galaxy S tab but have left T-Mobile and am with AT&T now and anted to use my tab. I was hoping to find somethng here before just sticking my new sim in. Chances are I'll do try it regardless. I'll post what happens once I do unless I read otherwise.

I have none of the problems that you described, so I'd obviously say it's worth it. But no-one can tell you whether you should or shouldn't get it. Maybe shop round a bit and check out the alternatives first.
like john mentioned nobody can tell you to buy it or no
but my advice is , if you planning to buy it again , buy it GSM , unlocked to get the best out of it .
in the other side i will recommand you to buy it again as its the best tab 7inch in the market
I'm new to android,a complete noob..my 1st android and I choose galaxy tab p1000..never regret I bought it at the 1st place..I prefer it much more than the iphone4 I gave to my wife..

Like John and k0sh, I can't tell you what to buy, but having come from froyo to gingerbread (and now running overcome 3.0) made me feel like I had a new tab. More stable and responsive.
The browser issue you refer may have to do with the agent (android vs desktop). You can solve it by using a browser like dolphin hd. I believe that, on overcome, you can browse as desktop on stock browser.
Cheers

Did you already purchase SGT 7?
If not, maybe you can consider 8.9 also. Reason for me to own SGT 7 is only because it have phone ability and big screen for browse internet and portable. I'm sure 8.9 version also have phone ability but not sure either it is portable
If you got it already, id say go and get the htc flyer
Ok so now I have 4 SGT's and I don't know which one to keep I have two of each of the following
Sch-I800 from verizon. With a sim and is a US spec sgt
Gt-p1000 unlocked with sim and is UK spec
Not sure what tab to keep for myself. I would guess the p1000 since its unlocked but maybe I'm wrong

P1000 GSM
Simply because there's more development for it.

I second GANJDROID. There's not much happening with the other varieties of tab at the moment... Too many people own the Euro model and not enough the other versions for developement to be started...
Keep the 1000: you get a complete experience - phone, 3g data, wifi, take it and use it anywhere in the world.
Awesome thanks guys

Hey guys, just curious, as I'm having withdrawals from actually having a decent phone that doesn't make me want to use it as a hockey puck.
I have access to a tmobile Samsung galaxy s2, for a cheap price, if I were to unlock it, would it be capable of running on the Verizon network? Obviously with owning a d3, I have a sim card, would it work? Also, again out of pure curiosity, would an unlocked att phone work on our network?

It all depends on if the phones are capable of running on CDMA/EVDO. Do some research on the phones sorry I'm not much help

Google (your phone model) specs and see if the radio bands are ones that are supported by verizon.

No the SGS2 uses GSM and Verizon uses CDMA. Maybe someone would trade you phones?
Even if the phone has CDMA hardware like any Sprint phone, Verizon will only allow devices on their network if they are authorized for use on Verizon.
I have a Tab 7 (gt-p1000r , rogers 3g) that I cannot for the life of find a stock firmware to go back to, so I am wondering if anyone can tell me is there any roms that I can use that won't brick my device? (I am rooted and superuser is on)
I don't even care if I loose 3g functionality, as this is just a luxury, I only use at home
A at&t rom might work. Both are on the gsm network. I think you can rake a at&t phone into canada and it will work. This might work. Just look into it. The model for a at&t is sgh-i987.
Happy hunting.

Thank you kindly, I will look into it, as mentioned I don't even care if I keep the radio portion of it(texting via sim, I have a nexus 4 so I am ok)
The CM 10 version has full functionality, i've heard. CM 11 still has a few bugs, no mobile data. I'm not sure about kang roms, AOKP, they are similar to CM.

Hi,
I'm selling my AT&T Galaxy S5. I want to keep it "as new", boxed, etc. so I've never turned it on. I was just wondering if there is any activation process with the phone? (I'm using the SIM in another phone, and the SIM is already activated.) I don't want to send the phone to someone, and have then be unable to use it. If there's an activation process with the phone then I'll put my SIM in and start it up once before sending off the phone.
Thanks a lot for your help!
Nope. It should just work.

Be careful, the expectation is that Samsung region-locked all of the S5's sold in N America, so you would need to make a five minute phone call within the N American market before selling the phone. You can find more info here: http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s5-region-lock-367402/

Thanks guys. The person buying the phone is also US-based, so as long as they can use it with their AT&T SIM in the US I think all will be well.
