While walking, tonight, I paired my Plantronic Voyager 855's to my Bionic for the first time. My thirty minute phone call was flawless. The music I streamed afterwards was not.
The audio suffered periodic stutters that sounded like a buffering issue. The audio was clear, but paused every couple seconds and resumed immediately where it left off.
I did not experience this problem with my Garminfone, Nexus One, HTC HD7, Dell Venue Pro, iPhone 4, or any other handset or laptop before Bionic while using this same headset.
What is your experience with stereo Bluetooth on Droid Bionic? Please post your headset model with your description.
Thank you for your participation.
I use bluetooth in my car, for calls, at the GYM, and watch movies. Haven't had any problems.

BT Audio Issues
All,
I vote we make this issue a hot forum topic. Its a problem that needs fixing.
I have this issue when streaming music via Bluetooth audio. It clicks/skips/stutters
What are you all using for ROMs? I am trying to determine if the issue is related to the kernel.
Stock ROM:
System version: 5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.en.US
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-g790a33c [email protected] #1

I have a JABRA hands-free in my car (unsure of the exact model) and I have zero stuttering/lag when streaming. Additionally, I am streaming ZumoCast (which I think would stutter more) - the droid x2 has horrible issues with music skipping, even with the music stored on the internal memory. There are a couple scripts that were made to help this (here) so maybe email 0vermind and ask him if he can port it.
Those of you with the issue...
Are you streaming music from your ext sd card?
Those without...
Are you streaming from the internal drive?
I moved my tunes from the sd to card to the internal drive and the problem seems to have resolved, but I was only able to test this theory for 15 minutes.
Same Issue
I have the same issue with my Bionic. Did not have this issue streaming Pandora from my Iphone to the same unit. I have a JVC in dash DVD/GPS and stream all the time. This is getting somewhat annoying...
Nope..works great on my Motorola A2DP head band...
Using a Stock Bionic here with stock Jawbone ERA. I use it with Runkeeper giving me audio hints while streaming Google Music. Had what I thought were stuttering issues but my battery was low. After giving it a full load, worked fine.
Scenario: jogging
Apps: Runkeeper + Google Music
Headset: Jawbone ERA
Location: phone in pocket (running shorts) on the same side as my headset.
I am also having some issues. I use a bt headset all night at work to listen to music from my sd (external) and have no issues. But i also have bt streaming on my car stereo which worked great on my thunderbolt but constantly skips on my Bionic.
I haven't tried moving the music to internal storage to see if it helps, mainly because there are no issues to headset which makes me think there is a compatibility issue or something.
Hoping this is something Verizon addresses in a radio update.
I am rooted running custom roms but the issue was there when still on stock.

Having this problem as well. Using Motorola S305 headset. Sometimes I will experience mad skipping (every few seconds), sometimes it will be every minute or so. Two things I mainly listen to right now are Podcasts through Doggcatcher and music through Spotify (I use premium, so most of what I listen to I synced to the phone for offline use.) I know that Doggcatcher saves podcast files to internal storage by default and I still experience the skipping issue listening to those as well.
Saw a few threads elsewhere saying that having Wi-Fi on while listening might cause this, but it still happens with Wi-Fi turned off.
For what its worth, I was able to access a high-level technical person at Motorola this morning via Chat
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/
They were not aware of this issue. I also told them about the cell standby problem.
I would encourage you all to visit the Motorola site and communicate the issues so things get fixed in a timely manner.
I have seen this issue with my Pioneer BT Headset in my truck. It works great until about a few minutes into the call. Then the other end is breaking up and they say my voice is breaking up. I take them off of BT and everything is fine.
I have this problem in my car as well. Very annoying. Happens with pandora, gmusic, and local media.

Glad and sad to see it's not just me!
I will check out the site. If you hear anything else please share. It is a manageable issue but one I shouldnt have to worry about on such a high end device
From my extensive testing (my 15 minute drive to work) this morning, i found that if i switch to the Performance Governor, the problem still happens.... but much much less...
I use a sony bluetooth to listen to music several hours per day and have not had any of these issues. I did notice this morning as I was exploring the settings on PowerAmp (the music app I use) and found that I could increase the buffer size. I did, but as I said, I was not having this issue prior to that. Any way, I was just thinking that someone may want to try PowerAmp and increase the buffer size and see if that helps.
Good luck and ignore above if it isn't relevant.

I have tried three different headsets on two different Incredibles and the music skips when walking or running when listening to music on the headset. Has anyone else had this happen and is there a fix?

Might defeat the purpose but use the headset blocker widget in the market. Just search "Headset blocker" and put the widget on one of your homescreens then activate it.
It may defeat the purpose of saying commands and such, but it should let you listen to your music without problems.

I have the same problem with my Motorola H9s. That was with my Blackberry Storm.
After much searching on the internet, it seems the position of the source is important. I get a minimum of skipping if I carry my phone in my back pocket.
I had skipping before I had to keep the phone above my waist to avoid it.but it was better indoors
same here. if i keep it above my waist it works better. doesn't seem right though!
If you are running a 2.2 rom, there seems to be some issues with bluetooth in general for the leaked build. My friend has had problems with music stuttering in his car connected thru the Sync thingie, and said there were a bunch of reports of shoddy bluetooth connectivity.
Just something else to consider.
I've been curious about this myself (if there's a bluetooth issue) - I have a motorolla t505 in the car, and bluetooth to it has been flaky to setup since SR2.5 and there have been random skips during playback.
I truly think it is a bluetooth issue. I'm on stock 2.1 and it has occured on two seperate phones and I have also tried 3 seperate headsets. Of course HTC says they have never had this problem.

Its not just Htc, friend runs cm6 nightlies on droid 1 and has bluetooth issues. I haven't looked into it much because I don't use bt, but he was saying there were lots of people having problems.
Not that that's necessarily what's going on here, however.
This is typically a headset issue. I have the moto s9's and the skipping happens when a good line of site to the device isn't present. Kind of defeats the purpose if you have to hold your phone while using the headset. I have noticed though that single mono headsets dont have this problem when running the audio apps.
I ran across this thread while trying to find a similar thread about the Samsung Captivate. I had the same issue and was going to post what I did to fix it. I'm sure the problem is phone-specific, but I figured I'd post it here anyway. I use my Motorola S805 headphones with my Captivate at work on a daily basis. I typically leave my phone on the charger and stream music through Rhapsody via my 3G connection (unlimited, thankfully...we don't have wifi at work). I regularly walk up to about 40 feet away from my phone, with no skipping or sound-quality issues whatsoever. I had a lot of issues with skipping when I first got the phone, and I figured out what was happening. If I leave WIFI turned on, but I'm not connected, the music skips. If I'm connected to a router, it doesn't. I believe the phone was polling for WIFI connections every so often and possibly causing a CPU spike or something similar. If I'm out of WIFI range, and simply turn my WIFI off, my music will play great all night long.
Appreciate any advice on this one - trying to play back music via Bluetooth headphones and it sounds pretty good but every 30 to 60s the music skips for maybe half a second, driving me crazy
I tried the same headphones with a friend's Desire HD and no such problem, which is real annoying considering our Incredible S is a new handset.
I've searched for answers and tried the obvious like disabling wifi, not running many background apps, turned off synching, turned off data, set to GSM only. Even factory reset, with only default apps installed.
Not found a solution. Have sent HTC an email for their advice; notice on their website that the Desire HD supports many more bluetooth profiles than the IS - is this just something that it cannot do, or is it something that HTC should fix?
Have you tried playing music through normal headphones or the loudspeaker?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk
Thanks yeah it's fine through loudspeaker and wired headphones. Tried Poweramp also, played with transfer rate settings but still same problem.....
I've not got a Bluetooth headset so I can't test, but I wad hoping to use Bluetooth headphones with it so I won't be happy if they don't work. When I get to try some out I will let you know what I find

I've been using my Incredible S with an old Alpine KCA-100BT connected to my car and there is no skipping.
I've also tried it with my Jawbone Icon headset and there is no skipping as well.
It works well while being charged, Google maps GPS directions on, and Pandora app using HSPA data running all at same time. I've just been using the Pandora app for music though.

What kind of BT phones are they? Back in the day I bought a cheap pair of BT headphones (actually, a clip in which you can plug in your own earbuds) and came across a problem similar to yours. The headset receiver was capable of higher bitrates but it would pause for a second every few minutes. Turns out there is actually a small cache buffer in the headset with a bad solder, so it kept losing data after streaming. I tossed them and got another clip (same make, model) and that works fine, but the range is limited (less than BT 2.0 should be). Finally I got a pair of SE MW600 (despite the fact that I despise Sony) and so far they've been a breeze (except the touch strip volume controls, a damn terrible idea).
So basically what I'm saying is it might be the headset, see if it does it with another...
They are Sennheiser PX210 Bluetooth headphones, work ok over bt with my pc, and the Desire HD
Don't have access to another set to try. My mates just laughed today, 'what DID you spend that much on a pair of headphones for.....' Actually I am wondering that, got them last year on offer.
It's just that my old Nokia 6300 can even stream to them without any issue.
Why not the IS?? Can't help but think that this is HTC software-related somewhere.
Well thanks for everyone's replies.
Was curious if anyone else has run into issues with audio over Bluetooth being distorted? On mine, when streaming Spotify to my car (extreme quality downloaded to the phone), there is a very noticeable distortion in the high frequencies. It's really pronounced on cymbal crashes.
I really hope this is just my particular phone and not all of the Ones doing this. I really like this phone otherwise but this is kind of a deal breaker for me. :crying:
Does it sound better (test with same song) when you plug it in with an audio cable? What's the MP3 sample rate?
I thought Google was supposed to have addressed this issue
I just drove around today with streaming from Google music with no issues.

Hey quick question, if your car is capable, did you get the song/artist/album meta-data transmitted? This version of Bluetooth is supposed to have that in the spec...

No idea what the sample rate is. But it's the highest quality on Spotify. Even when it's on the lowest quality it doesn't sound this bad when using my old Galaxy Note 2 or iPhone.
Just tried it with the Aux jack in the car and it sounded fine. In fact, with Beats on, I'd say it sounded excellent. :good:

Maybe I should load up some music locally and see what happens. Out of curiosity, is yours rooted? I don't think that would have anything to do with it, would it?
I am rooted and running viper rom.
Also, it was both local and streamed from Google music.
On a huge side note, it transmits song data too! My EVO lte didn't do that, pretty happy to be surprised by that with the One as I wasn't expecting it.

Pretty awesome that it transmits that data!! That might be enough for me to get a new deck in my car. It's drives me nuts having blanks screens where the music data should be.
Does your car support aptx?

I have no idea what that means. I have a 2013 VW CC Lux. Maybe you could look it up to see what it has for compatability?

Support of song metadata is part of the AVRCP 1.3 profile, which this phone supports. That is independent of any Bluetooth core version (2.1 vs 3.0 vs 4.0) specification. There are only a few headsets and even fewer cars that support the AptX codec which this phone also supports. Think of the codec as a way of transmitting the audio from the phone to the headset in a higher quality than MP3.
I am noticing distortion on the highs when when streaming music over BT. I think even my EVO3D sounded slightly better than this How is there a ROM already available for the one? Where can I obtain Viper rom?

I was excited to find out that my One was transmitting song data/text to my head unit over BT! my evo3d didnt do that. this is using PlayerPro
This just reminds me of how much I have to test on my phone before it's too late to exchange it.
Generally best to troubleshoot Bluetooth issues for music with the default player first before looking at alternative players. If it isn't working well on the default as well as your preferred player like PlayerPro, that says a lot more.
Well the info from the music player to the stereo is inconsistent. Using the same app, same songs, etc sometimes it shows music info sometimes it doesn't.

Just tried it again using the Viper rom this time and the same issue.
I'll load some music into the phone and use the stock player and see if it still does it.
Well I experimented with it yesterday streaming music from my Amazon MP3 cloud player and it was great...I was streaming to a JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker and it sounded awesome...BUT....we only have 3G in my area so the few little sounds I heard I attributed to 3Gs slower connection speed. I then downloaded a hard copy of the same song on my phone and played it non-streaming and it sounded better. Maybe its just the streaming that distorted the sound for you.
Loaded some MP3s into the One and tried the stock music player in the car is the same results. Super distorted.
I thought this got fixed with ICS. My Galaxy S2 (after the ICS update), S3 Note 2 and my iPhone 4s and 5 all had no trouble streaming to my car over bluetooth. :crying:
Just to clarify, I have had ZERO distrotion issues with music to my car or computer headset. Thats through google music and pandora, the music sounds great with no issues whether streaming or from my pinned playlists.
My only issue has been the inconsistent nature of if it provided the song info to my car's stereo. I have found that if I am on an FM station and then switch to bluetooth with my car for media that it always provides the information, so I am assuming that it is something to do with starting the car and syncing to the bluetooth immediately where maybe my stereo hasn't fully booted yet that is causing the audio to play but not getting the full music info.
I have been having an interesting issue with my Bionic post-JB update, and hope someone here can give me some pointers of where to start.
Before the JB update, I was able to connect to my factory head unit (Toyota FJ Cruiser) without issue. I could stream anything via Bluetooth, and often listened to Pandora while on trips. I updated to JB, and now Pandora will not come through the speakers. a few useful tidbits of info.
1) Pandora thinks it is playing on the phone, but no sound comes out from the car stereo.
2) Google Music and PowerAmp both work flawlessly (even hve track data on head unit now
3) I have verified the basics (Bluetooth volume is up, Bluetooth enabled in Pandora, cycled the Bluetooth setting in Pandora, rebuilt connection to head unit, R&R'ed the app, etc.)
4) I have frozen the volume notification warning they added in JB.
5) Sound WILL play for about 3 seconds if I launch another music app and Pandora opens over it. Once the other app stops, so does the sound.
6) I have not been able to test this in another vehicle as my other car does not have Bluetooth connectivity.
I am at a loss. I can't find anything about anyone else having this particular problem, but it's driving me crazy. I may have to explore other options for music, which would be fine in a couple of months anyway, as a) will be eligible for an upgrade and b) my Pandora One subscription will be ending, but would rather not have to worry about it right now.
If anyone here has experienced anything like this, I would LOVE to have some help.
Have a little info, but no real help.

I have a Droid Bionic and drive 2009 Tundra. Had no issues connecting and listening to slacker radio before JB update. Currently can only play Google play music or anything that I have on my SD card. I have searched and found that it is most likely the updated Bluetooth from AVSP? 1.0 to 1.3 which toyota vehicles dont fully comply with. Sounds like the stereo head units are being left behind with the new blueototh updates. Dont know if there is a way to fix this, but it really sucks. I just bought the truck too. Should not have updated to JB. Maybe I will have to get a new head unit.
I would just use an aux in instead of replacing the head unit. My bionic acts odd when connecting Bluetooth to my 2013 civic. Poweramp always cones on automatically. I usually listen to Xm app. There are apps in the market to help control what apps will play through Bluetooth automatically and I assume those that won't play. I'd search for an app like that was well. I wouldnt replace an OEM head for that. You might have the same problem. I think its fixable through apps if you reseaech enough

I have basically the same problem with my bionic and Lexis CT200. Apparently it is just the 4.1.2 version of JB that is the problem. If you use a 4.2.2Rom out will work. CM10.1 has worked for me. YMMV

Yes, I've had this happen. I can't help MUCH, I'm afraid. All that works for me is to turn off Pandora, turn off BT, start over. But I *am* able to get Pandora to play through my BT usually. It will get confused and only play through the phone at times, but restarting the two seems to help.
I am rooted but still running the stock ROM on my Bionic (4.1.2). I experience this issue with my 2010 Camry. Can anyone verify that a 4.2.2 ROM will alleviate this issue?
Been having bluetooth audio stuttering issues with the Moto X when playing music/podcasts. Only seems to happen in my car with the Chevy MyLink system (Blackberry QNX-based). Works fine with a regular set of bluetooth headphones.
I've tried:
Disabling Wifi
Rebooting Directly Before Connecting to Bluetooth
Re-pairing the device
Turning off NFC
Un-pairing all other bluetooth devices
Turning on the developer option to leave the screen on when plugged in, to force the phone to not sleep
Moving the phone to different places in the car (assuming it was a reception issue)
Disabling the phone profile in bluetooth, leaving only the media profile
Different music players
Playing music from local storage rather than streaming it
None of it seems to help. The only real difference I can see is that the car bluetooth stereo supports AVRCP 1.3 (Track information, song/album title) and the other bluetooth streaming devices I've tested don't.
Does the Moto X just have a buggy bluetooth stack? (this worked fine on my old Note 3) Anyone else have this issue (and possible have a fix)?
I just started using my phone in my car to stream music today, using a CoolStream Bluetooth adapter and noticed the same thing. I have two CoolStream devices, so I was going to do some testing before posting anything (I used the other in my office today without issue). I just received a replacement Moto X (for another reason) today, so I will try it out tomorrow.

From the motorola forums, there is a suspicion that this is related to the charger that is being used. Can you confirm if this happens if you are using bluetooth music on battery?

This happens even when the phone is on battery.
That being said, it does seem worse when I'm using my Belkin 2.1 amp car charger.
Hmm, definitely starting to sound like a bluetooth software problem, hoping this gets some visibility @ Moto.
Works well for me

I am on my second phone, it is better than the first, but the problem still exists.
This sounds like a major problem - I have a Sony Smartwatch 3 and it keeps dropping. I haven't tried anything else yet but this is already not looking good. Anyone with any answers running Lollipop?
same if not worse
I went from a moto x 2013 to a 2014 and uograded to lolipop. The stuttering is still on lolipop and i have othwr issues as well. When I try to play a vox it doesnt pause audio and is silent. It also fails to auto connect about 50% of the time. And wven when it does the audio is muted and i have to disconnect and re connect. Using an Alpine ute-42BT
I've been using my Moto X 2014 with a 2011 BMW and I have no issues with stuttering. The version of the car's Bluetooth stack supports AVRCP 1.4. I had some quirks with it and my previous LG G3 (time display was off, and previous/next controls from car didn't work properly). With the Moto X, everything works well and all information is displayed properly.
Does anyone know what version of AVRCP the Moto X has when running Lollipop? It seems like stock Lollipop is still stuck on 1.3 (I can't get a clear answer), but with the time being reported properly, I suspect 1.4 is being used on my Moto X.
I also have issues w Bluetooth. Stutters randomly w my Subaru Impreza, as well as my 2 UE Boom Speakers. Using Google Play Music All Access.
In addition, the Jawbone UP24 wouldn't sync w my phone. Had to restart the phone to push a sync through.
My phone was working fine until today. I was able to pause, play, and skip with my bluetooth receiver, but the audio was still coming out of my phone. This is terribly frustrating. I can't believe such a large issue has been going on for months with no announcement from Motorola.
My pure edition on lollipop stutters when the active display goes off on Bluetooth. Only send to happen then
I've notice using Bluetooth headphones none have the range they are suppose to. I've used Power beats 2 wireless, JBL Synchro's wireless, and Moto Hint. The range and Bluetooth auto seem to lack badly. Using a Bluetooth to aux adapter in my work van I've noticed it skipping as well. Hope this gets fixed its apparent that its a issue with the Moto X Bluetooth.
my bluetooth audio has become worthless. so much stuttering, calls sound like they are under water, moto assist voice in the car is so quiet
i can't stand it.
