official 5.6.890 (download) not leak - Motorola Droid 3

The update was pushed to my phone today, don't know if its available for everybody or if its rolling out in baches, but I have the file and I'm not signed up for the soak test so I'm assuming its official.
http://www.multiupload.com/5ZMDB712T9
just unzip the rar
don't know if anything is different but there it is
YES you can root afterwards

All users say thanks!

This is the same as the leak from last month. Thanks for sharing though.

Must be rolling out in batches. I'm in the Chicago area and I have not received the update yet.

In DC no update yet either. Am I gonna have to reroot applying this or unroot then reroot?

Were you rooted prior to the updated? Had you removed or moved any bloatware prior to the update? Just wondering if the update unroots or fails if pre-loaded software is missing.

My phone came right from Verizon with 5.6.890 and I used one-click-root and Koush's D3 boostrap and all worked fine. Even if you lose root you can re-root.

I rooted before the update but I didn't remove bloatware, if you did it will probably fail. you can replace your deleted bloatware with PetesMotorolaRootTools

@LRiley Thanks man, good to know. I did not delete any of the bloatware, just moved them to a sub-folder so restoring will be a piece o'cake. Will do that now because I have no idea when I'll get the update from VZW.

Did this OTA fix the swype spanish bug? Also, have you been able to ROOT your D3 after the official OTA?
congrats...

The MD5sum is the same as the leak from last month, meaning it hasn't been touched since before it was leaked. Also means all the same fixes and issues are present.

If you have the bootstrap, can you apply the leaked update from Verizon? Or will it fail because of verification?

Worked. I forgot about the one click bloat freeze I ran a while back :/ Thanks!

After running this update, I am not able to complete the root process.
I get the following error with psouza4's one-click
Running exploit step 3 of 3 (adding su, busybox, and superuser.apk)... FAIL!
ERROR: we have root, but couldn't push busybox. Not sure why!

After the update, did you go back and make sure debugging was checked?
Also, make sure the allow for unkown sources is checked.
Setting-->applications
Just a thought.

I've been putting off running the leak but now that its official its great to be able to download and run this without getting near my computer, everything worked flawlessly, thank you much.

Yes, I made sure both of those were checked. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Anybody know why step 3 might be failing, and can't push busybox? I'm hoping psouza can chime in with a suggestion. Is there an issue with this update?
I'm stuck, and this phone just isn't the same without root.

You will want to re-bloat your phone before updating or it will fail. Root will be lost but 1-click root still works on the update.
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
I tried checking, and get the message "Check for update is not available at this time. Try again later."
It seems something is definitely up, as normally I would just receive a message that my system is up to date.

It's something I was just waiting to be ota personally. A lot of the issues it is said to fix never really bothered me except for the blue tint in pictures.

Assuming you did not remove any stock apps besides the two Gameloft demos and just froze the apps using Titanium:
1. Unfreeze the apps using batch mode in Titanium
2. Install the update
3. Reroot using the one click method. I unfroze and updated at work and now just finished rooting again.
Yeah it's random. Have two non-rooted D3's one of them got pushed the update and the other one is stuck checking for the update. Came here to see what was up.
Got the ota update this morning on my stock D3. Downloaded and installed and the install failed and then the home screen came up but with no 3G connection. Pulled the battery and nothing happened. Called Verizon and they had me pull the battery and then do a hard reset. Still no 3G connection. Got Motorola on the phone and they had me do a manual reset, but still no 3G connection. Verizon is sending me a replacement phone overnight.
Fail. Lol

I unfroze the apps before trying. Nothing was previously removed. Anything that was frozen has unfrozen properly.
EDIT: Found the reason for the message: Social applications was set to "sync over wifi only" which was causing the message. Now I get the "checking for available update. Please wait..." and it's been going about 3 minutes so far, no update found. Does not look like data is being sent/received while it's checking, either.

So whats the story on .894?

I know it breaks forever root, but can it be manually be rooted? Also Im on 5.7.893 stock bloated and the 1.1mb update fails install for me, is this a blessing in disguise?
From what I understand, all it does is break forever root. I don't think there is any reason to try to install it. I haven't heard anyone comment about it being rooted if you do install it though. But I have heard that whatever they push OTA will be able to be rooted using an undisclosed method of root that will not be made available until after the OTA is pushed. Just what I've heard.

Same as I have heard, the only reason I would try to update to it is to stay on the upgrade path for future updates, and why it wouldnt install on mine when Im at 5.7.893.
If you are currently "forever rooted", installing the update will fail. You would need to back out the forever root to apply.

Nope, Im not. I tried to forever root but it failed, so I did it manually. I was at 5.7.893 but lost webtop, so I made a backup of 5.7.893, and used the method of going back to 5.5.886 and used the 54mb 5.5.886-5.7.893 that restores webtop, but didnt make a new backup of 5.7.893 with webtop, and went back to my backup of reblurred. Maybe I should have made a new back up of 5.7.893?

so what does .894 improve or change
From what Ive heard it to solely break forever root, but I have no confirmation if manual rooting still works.
Manual rooting doesn't work it's been broke for a long time. All the leaks broke manual root.

Ota 5.6.894 root?

Can we root 5.6.894? My girlfriend let the ota happen and the d3 lost root. It was previously rooted and i have a nandroid backup after root and bone stock. Can i revert it back or is there more to it than that?

5.6? Yes you can just reroot?
I beleave they fixed the patch to root it on the update. Download rootkeeper from the market.

they fixed the exploit in 5.7.894, but its still open in 5.6.890
Looks like you might have to SBF the phone back to 5.6, root it, apply perm root, and go from there… it's going to be a pain, but it'll get you back to being rooted.

May wanna try the new super-one-click. It was just updated with some new methods.

Attention read before flashing official ota!!

keep in mind before anyone updates to the official jb. i suspect the official release will be patched to not allow us to return to ics. if you keep root after the update good but if you some how break root there might no be a way to get it back as of now! so be cautious before you accept update. we should at least wait for an official jb fxz if you plan on keepng root this way if you mess something up at least you will have a working phone back without root of course. again i dont know they will patch the official release to prevent downgrade but lets find out for sure to be on the safe side. i dont think were gonna get dan to make us a jb root method right away soon.....
It could be considering its small size. Those who have updated to JB OTA should install safestrap and make a backup.

That's not the official one... A leak update for a leak update is not the official OTA. The official package (if for some reason it is 98.4.20) will be the size of at least the 2 leak update.zips together. It is not a 10 MB change from ICS to JB. It's a 10 MB change from JB leak to JB leak.

Just to clarify for Pete.
We don't want your information stored on your phone.
1) Restore back to ICS using the "restore function" in SS3/TWRP
2) Do a Factory Data Reset in settings.... privacy..... Factory Data Reset (this will wipe all personal info from the phone).
3) After you've done a Factory Data Reset, do a backup in SS3/TWRP.
4) Zip up the folder that has the backup you just performed, and upload it to a file server somewhere.
5) Post the link in this thread.

I know this breaks root, but is it possible to root again or do we have to find a new way to root. I only want to root for tethering and debloat. Verizon sucks when they load everything they can on top of a phone that has a lot of apps already installed on it.
Best to get a copy of it to the devs. If it works like the razr, you can d/l but not install it and pull the file from cache.
