[Q] Tried to install GingerDX, MD5 mismatch! - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I went trough this tutorial, installed xRecovery 0.1, made backup for my stuff, put GingerDX folder in the xRecovery/backup folder (without spaces, and hit the "Restore" button on the xRecovery menu.
One thing, when I first made a backup for my original stock rom, it said it had a problem calculating MD5.. I so I deleted this backup and made another one, a perfectly backed up one...
What should I do?
Also, when I install new custom rom, it deletes all my personal stuff from my phone?
Maybe should I click the "Install custom zip" thingy?
Maybe should I wipe all the device before?
Well, I feel like an idiot for not reading the instructions on the GingerDX page. Please remove.

Complete backup process

After weeks of playing around, I have finally found a mod I am happy with (cyanogenmod), and I have a plethora of applications installed (both free and paid).
In addition to using cyanogenmod, I am using RA Recovery (I think that is the name of the recovery image)
Now, what I am wondering is: What is the proper way to back EVERYTHING up? I see there are a few backup options available (nandroid as well as Bart)...which one (or ones) do I need to use to get a complete backup of everything on my phone...and by everything, I mean the apps (paid and free), configurations, the system (mod, kernel, theme for the mod, etc, etc)...keeping in mind that the applications are on the SD card.
Is there anything that will go ahead and back up all of it for me, so that when I decide to try out different roms (Hero, etc), that I can easily revert to where I am right now, with everything set up and installed just how I like it?
I guess what I am looking for is a complete image of my phone. Hopefully that describes what I am lookin for, heh.

SOLUTION:
1) make sure you set up your phone just the way you like it. then go into your amon ra recovery (the bart option works i believe for only RA recovery 1.2.3 and higher so just upgrade to the latest 1.5.2). make a nandroid back up only (not the ext option) first.
2) go to console and press enter. then type "utility." this will bring up the extra options of which bart back up and bart restore are a part of.
3) choose option 7 which is the bart back up. name your backup now to whatever you want. (tip: name it like cyan4.2.10.1darkstar or whatever rom and theme it is so u remember which is which and what has what). now it will back up everything (includes your data, your ext, literally everything as it is).
4) press "b" to reboot out of recovery.
5) now when you want to restore it. just wipe your phone (wiping ext is fine too but not needed) and go to console then and enter and type "utility" and type 8 for bart restore and it will list your backed up roms that you have named.
*important*- every time you perform a back up- you must do a Nandroid back up before going into the bart back up option. bart back up will always use the last nandroid back up you named when you create a new bart back up. also, all these backed up roms are located in the "bart" folder in your sdcard.
hope this helped
I think in RA's recovery you can do BART back up right from the recovery itself, don't even have to go into console.

yes you can but the problem with that option is it does not allow you to name it so it is pretty much useless. the best way is to do the way i described so everything is in order and you know what you saved.

So, if I read your instructions properly, what I need to do is a nandroid backup (I chose Nand + ext backup), then run utility and follow the prompts, and it will utilize the nand backup I already performed, and then do its own things as well, to backup everything as it is...which is what I want.
Backed up, and will test the restore when/if I need to
I thank you much

Rename my Nandroid backups?

i thought you could rename the folder of each nandroid backup, but after searching i read that now they might not restore anymore. is this true? i havent tried to restore any of them.
i used the time stamp of each folder to rename them based on the order of first to last because i didnt pay attention that the folder name was actually the date. so i dont know if i named them correctly, i.e. stock rom, cyan #1, etc.
are my restore files now trashed? also i havent done a restore yet cause i wasnt sure how much re-installing i would have to do. what exactly does nandroid restore, is it just the OS and all settings, but no apps? thanks!
Nandroid is basically an image or 'Snapshot' of your phone i.e. everything from your applications to your settings to the bootloader animation. As for renaming them, I think you need to keep the same folder structure but you can rename the 'BDES-20100430-1259' part to something more user-friendly.

Wait it grabs everything including apps, OS settings, even my desire black notification bar, etc?
I'm totally noob so I wanna do my first restore but don't know what if anything I'll lose and if its worth it to even restore. I'm wondering how feasible it is to bounce around between nanDroid backups and I always hear about titanium backup but don't understand the difference and why to use that or just the recovery. Thanks
I rename my nandroid backup folders on a regular basis, so I can quickly find a backup for any stage of modification I'd like to go back to. ORIGINAL, CYAN-506-BARE, CYAN-506-LOADED, FROYO-BARE, FROYO-LOADED, etc....
And it SHOULD backup everything (well, except for the radio image), and it generally does. I have done a few restores where it misses an app or setting or two but the majority of everything is there.
mine works restoring when renaming folders. i label mine using the rom versions (kang/cyan/etc)
And you don't lose root if you flash back to stock ROM, the one I made right after I first rooted?

If the backup was created while you had root access, then you should still have root access. Those permissions will be copied as a part of the backup.
crap my restore just failed. It said:
Error: run 'nandroid-mobile.sh restore ' via adb
Are my backups lost forever? I tried all of them and all gave that error.
That's beyond me. The only time I've had an issue with nandroid backups was when my SD card was close to full. My troubleshooting skills on that are limited, I'm afraid.
I rename all mine according to ROM/kernel...etc and yes nandroid backsup everything to the "T" the way it was when u aplly the backup. You should always keep more than one nandroid on ur card or save them on ur computer. They are known to sometimes not work. It has happened to me.
Ok I'm really having some problems. I just now created another brand new nand backup and didn't rename itand tried to restore it and get the same error. Google has tons of info on this with a million different answers. I tried removing all spaces in my backup name with no luck.

hahaha, ****t codesplice, you and I do it the exact same way!!!
Since I've been playing with different kernels for Froyo, I now have to include the kernel name in my backups.

Err, this is gonna to annoy you.

But I'm gonna be one of those newbies who doesn't know any shiat.
I want to install this theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883291 (Gingerbread for Cyanogenmod)
SO, I have rooted with unrevoked.
I have installed ROM Manager via Market.
I know that I'm supposed to do a "Nandroid"? Which is a backup?
And then I'm supposed to install ClockworkRecovery Mod.
And then....
I'm lost from that point.
Do I have to install Cyan-mod FIRST?
Yeah, you can tell I'm pretty stupid.
HELP PLEASE!
PS And if you could provide instructions for installing Market too, that would be great.
Download cyanogenmod 6.1.1 and gapps package and put it on your sd card FIRST. Then do a backup through nanodroid. After the backup in clockwork go to wipe user data and click yes, then go down to wipe partition cache and click yes. After that, go to apply zip through sd card and it will show a list off all your folders, go to the folder where you put the cyanogen rom. Once you see cyanogen rom click it then press yes, it will start to install. Now after its done go back to apply zip from sd card and find the gapps. Click it and then it will install. Once both of those are done installing click reboot system. Thats how you get cyanogenmod on your aria. Now if you want to apply a theme, you have to make sure it is compatible with cm 6.1.1 and it is for the htc aria (liberty). If it is, download it and then go to clockwork and go to apply zip from sd card and find it. It will install then reboot system.
P.S. DO A NANODROID BACKUP BEFORE YOU APPLY A THEME, if you get into a bootloop, pull the battery out and then put it back in and push the volumd and power key at the same time. This will take you to bootloader mode from there push the down volume button and click recovery this is a way to enter clockwork recovery, then restore a backup so it doesnt bootloop. Finally, please post your problems in the general section.

[Q] Working method for restoring Call logs/SMS to ICS?

I know there are a lot of apps for back up/restoring, but does anyone know any working for ICS? I have tried AppExtractor with ROM Manager, didn't work. The Message-app started to behave strange. Tried SMS Backup & Restore, was able to restore the sms but couldn't not open them.
I'm currently using NovaHD's ICS Rom.
You can restore your messages from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db and mmssms.db-journal in your nandroid backup (just extract and replace)
And your calls from /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts/database/contacts2.db and contacts2.db-journal
(Extract and replace)
Nandroid = CWM?
So, basically your saying that i should extract my backup and the rom, then find these folders extract the backup one to the rom and then zip it again?
Two options
#1 Restore your backup, copy the files to a temp folder on sdcard, flash your new rom and replace them
#2 Extract them from your backup and then replace them
It might be other solutions aswell but these are simple
Nandroid = CWM

just a small mention....file types from CM7 or Cm 9 are not the same with other GB formats....so are not comaptible....be careful with that.
HerrKuk, i'm kind of new to rooting but i need android sdk to do this?!
Sreeprajay, i'm goding from stock rom to custom, should work right?!

Nope, just root and and root explorer (or similar)
You dont even need a computer
Or use nandroid browser from the market : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.goddchen.android.nandroidbrowser

from the stock to custom, it will be prefect...just make sure once you are rooted, backup your msgs and call logs by either apps or by backing the ROM totally....
Hope it helps
So, i installed root explorer, copied mmssms.db(no journal-file), flashed owain's rom, installed root explorer, replaced my mmssms.db file in the rom, rebooted and the SMS-client won't start.
Optimus, maybe this will help you:
This is "backup to gmail"
I have got this aplication (paid) but it`s works on ICS (owain 29)
Take a look on my screenshot.
sms backup & restore works perfectly for me, but no idea on that phone call log
Albatros2605, MoFosis, Thanks for your help guys, but managed to restore my SMS by using SMS Backup+, which copies everything to your gmail and then downloads it to restore the SMS.
Hi guys, I recently screwed the pooch on an upgrade to 4.0.4, and I forgot to backup SMS before doing it. I did a nandroid backup, but I can neither restore the backup nor locate the mmssms.db file in the archive. I tried AppExtractor and Titanium Backup, but with no success.
Can someone help me by telling me where to locate my SMS history in a nandroid backup? Thanks!

Need some help (noob warning)

Hey all, first of all... I just rooted my phone and this is the first time I am taking a dip into the I9000 stuff.. So please bare me
Anyway, I just rooted my phone with Semaphore 2.7.4 and all went fine, phone rebooted, installed SuperUser from Play Store and granted Semaphore his Root-Access and all went fine...
Now I want to backup all my info (SMS / APPs / Settings and so on) because the reason I rooted my phone is to make backups, lately my phone is starting to reboot / freezing and I don't trust a few APPs that are installed, so I want to give my phone a factory reset but be able to put back some backed up APPs / Settings :cyclops:
I installed Titanium Backup, but I'm not sure what to do now..... ??
*waves and says welcome to this part of the forums to himself

I would ask you to boot in to recovery, go to advanced and try "Fix Permissions". Then boot your phone normally, now check if it's fine. Also, what you can also do is revert to your original kernal, that is only flash the kernal and don't re-partition. You will not loose any data in this case.
You have two options to take backups:
1) Using Titanium Backup - In the top right hand corner u will see a box with a tick mark on it.. it is the batch schedule option. go into it and u will see a lot of options. go for backing up all the apps and user data. it will take some time depending on how many apps u have on your cell. once finished all of ur apps will be backed up with the data intact.
2) using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP - once installed you can take the complete NAND backup of your cell Titanium can also extract app data from ur TWRP NANDROID backups
Hope this helps
Thank you both for your reply, meanwhile I went to do even some more reading then I already have done in the past and been doing some backups....
- I went to Contacts and choose "Export Contacts" and imported those Contacts in GMail.
- Did an SMS Backup+ and saved SMS/MMS/Logs to my GMail account.
- I went into Semaphore CWM Recovery Mode and did a complete ROM-backup and saved this backup to pc
- I've backed up all Applications + Data using Titanium Backup, I've deselected the system APPs and saved the backup to pc afterwards.
- I've backed up the EFS folder (containing IMEI and stuff) using RootExplorer and saved a copy of the EFS folder to pc afterwards.
I think I am ready now to do a factory reset and maybe even take a peek around the wonderful world filled with ROMs, I've been following some topics for months with itching fingers
If something is still missing please let me know, like I said this is the first time playing around with my SGS and I would love to do it in the right way
Now you are ready to start. You can also backup your photos, music etc by the way
