Produced LG's? - LG Thrill 4G

Something I've heard is bothering. Are lgs produced fast and crappily? Because I've heard everybody stating that these phones are dropping in price and will be outdated soon because LG throws their phone/s out into the market so fast. Is any of this true?

I wouldn't say that they were going to become obsolete any quicker than any other device. Now a days, the day the phone launches, there is a bigger and better on the horizon. I think all devices after 6 months really could be said to be obsolete.
If we can get CM7 on this thing, I wouldn't be too concerned with LG and their support. As for the hardware, it is a solid device and should still compete for a while.

If I were to have the option to take it back for an Atrox, Infuse, or an Inspire, should I? Would you?

I had an Atrix (gave it to my wife), I would not trade back. The Atrix was a nice phone, and was quite fast, but overall, I like the Thrill better. As for an Inspire, battery life has been reported to be as bad or worse than the Thrill. Pretty common for HTC phones. Infuse, maybe, but it only has a single core and IMO, the SGS2 would be more tempting.
I'm sticking with the Thrill because I have another upgrade available this month, but will keep this and hope that the Prime will find it's way to AT&T soon for me to pick up in addition.
I'm pretty happy with the Thrill overall, and hope that Gingerbread sneaks out soon to make it even better. Get some CM7 lovin' and I'm all good.

Does the thrill have enough ram?
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App

I was a little worried about that too when I was getting ready to buy it, but here is an interesting (and informative) read about RAM and Android OS
http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/andr...hat-it-how-its-used-and-why-you-shouldnt-care
Being that we have dual channel RAM in it, I really don't see us not having enough.

Great news to me, so besides the new GS2, this phone is one of the top five fastest out at the moment. Sounds great xD.
Now... where's mah CM7 or MIUI? Hehehe,

Some people claim this omap CPU out performs the GSII. Coming from the inspire this phone is amazing.
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App

Woohoo good Drummer, glad you came from the Inspire just like I did. I love this phone, we just need the GB update and cm7 or MIUI. I am personally hoping for MIUI. And this phone is only mileseconds slower than other phones such as the S2. YouTube it xD. And the only let down so far is this ****ty loaded 2.2.2 Froyo rom. And I hear that ram doesn't even matter that much. Just Google that as well. Go Optimus/Thrill!
Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App

Battery life on the Thrill is undoubtedly a lot worse than the Inspire. I lose 10% or more per hour with the phone just sitting with no interaction. My Inspire only lost about 2% per hour. And the Thrill takes 8+ hours to charge from 20% to 100%. I am only a light user - maybe 200 texts a day if that, no internet, no games, maybe a few short calls and I have to charge it twice a day.

I think something is wrong with your Thrill. I don't get great battery life either, but my Thrill charges quicker than any phone I've owned. I can probably charge from 20% to 100% in 1 hour. Are you using the charger that came with the phone?

I actually came from the inspire and traded for this phone. I have to say I cant complain about either. Was running LeeDroid's sense 3.0 rom and experienced great battery life on my inspire, don't really know why everyone was complaining about it. Lol. I've had the Thrill since the first week of it's release, and I definitely notice the speed difference. At first I was very disappointed with it's battery life but after having it this long the battery has gotten better, but maybe it's from running Thriller idk. Only thing disappointing now is the lack of development, but I am sure that will come in due time.

I too have noticed pronounced battery life after a week or two. But, I am also on the Thriller ROM. I don't know the battery needs to be calibrated like people said the captivate needed. At first I saw 30% drop on the drive to work, using the phone to listen to audiobook over Bluetooth, now I see about 6-10% for the same. I also see almost no drop when the phone is locked, when I used to.
Again, I don't know if this is due to the Thriller ROM, or just because I have been through enough charge cycles.

From the amount of use you have, I think the inspire would be a better choice for you. But i was experiencing the same battery problems as you are, just make sure you stop your apps running in the background, maybe download some battery saving apps(i.e. Juice defender/setcpu), they have helped my battery life. The battery life gets better the more cycles you get through it. My phone sat still at work for 6 hours and only lost 7% of battery. But we should see better battery once GB comes for this phone, especially because that will open up some GB roms.

Yeah I am using the cable and the wall plug adapter that came with the phone. Makes no difference in charging speed whether I'm connected to a PC with the cable or to that adapter. I am using Advanced Task Killer, and I kill off everything except for email (set to sync every 1/2 hr) and circle battery meter widget. I would jump all over the extended battery that requires the back to be swapped, but there are no cases that fit it like that yet.

The fact that it is draining so quickly, and taking so long to charge, suggests to me that a rogue app is killing your battery. This is one of the annoying "features" of Android.
This is far from typical battery consumption for this device. You should try to determine what app is causing the problem and/or do a factory reset on your device.
I definitely wouldn't live with this situation.

That was one of the things I did already on day 3 of having the phone. I did a factory reset, installed absolutely nothing. Plugged it in to charge and it was no better. Still losing 10-15% per hour idling. I did notice that using app manager, even on a fresh factory reset, it says RAM 283 used, 158 free and the cpu bounces from 90% to 10% almost constantly.

2) You really want your phone to be even thicker?
I am quite satisfied with the battery life. Actually very impressed. Consistently getting 16+ hours out of it. I'm usually a battery snob too. I guess to each it's own
I am satisfied enough with the allegedly 2000mAh battery I got on eBay. The nonobvious fact is that it charges much more completely when powered down. For various reasons, I don't want to leave the phone powered down all night, so I leave it plugged in but powered up. As soon as I wake up, I power it down and plug it back in, and it continues to trickle-charge for another 90 minutes, until I leave the house.

Mind sharing your definition of heavy use? To eat the battery in half a day... WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Consistent music or video use...?
I just ask because that's a pretty harsh battery cycle. On my heroc, cm6 would eat it. 8 hours tops... no matter what I did. Then AOSP would last 30.
With medium to heavy usage, I get no less than 18 hours. My longest cycle has been 61 hours.
WiFi running all day... at least an hour of Angry Birds. Some YouTube. Usually 50 - 100 sms/mms. 2 - 3 hrs talk time. Bout 10 received and sent emails on average as well.
Guess that is light use compared to some abusers.

I will say this, if you spend a lot of time in an area with low signal that will kill your battery quickly.
I work in the 9th circle of hell for cell signal and my battery dies much faster in the office than it does when I'm not in.

Agreed. I work on the inland waterways... sometimes lucky to get 1x for a couple hundred nautical miles (which can be a few days at times) and... well I don't wanna address that issue.
That's why I don't base my statistics on work time at all.
Also to note.. although most phone users should already know this, downloading a 10 mb file on 3G, or even 4g for that matter, will use a hell of a lot less battery than downloading a comparable file on 1x.

Agreed. I get very little signal at my house at all, I have a Sprint Airvana box that supports the signal throughout my house and it eats up my battery throughout the day.
It's ridiculous that these companies are putting the same 1500 mAh batteries into smartphones as they did in the old school phones. Forcing anyone who actually uses there phone much to be dependent on a power outlet throughout the day.
Sure, slim is "in", and it saves the manufacturer money by stiffing us with an inadequate battery, but screws the consumer that actually uses their smartphone.
Your only alternative is to spend an additional near $100.00 to get an acceptable battery that should have come with the phone to begin with.

It depends on shipper's location, the shipping method, and your location
But to discuss the "battery life" of an extended battery, it depends on the quality of the battery cells. When I had my Evo 4G, I bought one of those $15 3500 mAh eBay batteries with a cover. It lasted 15-30% longer than the stock battery. Sometimes it wasn't any better than stock. Using the Seidio 3500 mAh battery, it lasted much longer than the cheapo extended battery, but it was also $50+.
If you want a quality battery, that is almost guaranteed to be rated close to what's written on the cover, get a Mugen, or a Seidio. You will also get the battery life you expect. If you want something that might or might not last longer than stock, go with the cheapo eBay batteries.
You get what you pay for.

My battery lasts 8-12 hours depending on how bad I beat on it.
My active days, I listen to music, play suduko, check xda, play in the market. Listen to tune in radio.
That said. I don't know if that is short. I think it's pretty long, and am happy with it. I have the decrapified rom, love it. I have App Killer by Rechild set on a widget. So I go in set what I want it to regularly kill, and tap the widget through out the day. It's mostly my android process that hogs the battery according to widgetsoid.

12 hours seems like a long day and good amount of hours. i hear task killers are bad for your phone though
I was averaging 9-12 hours with decrapified 1.1 depending on use. JuiceDefender extended that another 1-2 hours but added 4-6 seconds before I get 4G back when the device "wakes up". It turns the radio off and I have it set to ping instead of constantly syncing. 3G comes on 1st, then 4G...

Sounds ridiculous but i turn airplane mode on when i'm not using the phone. Turn it off every couple hrs to see if i got any emails or texts or something. Huge battery savings. I have the accurate battery mod posted in the dev forum so if i wake it up after sitting for an hr it's down 5% if i leave airplane mode off, but if i turn it on, it's down like 1%... maybe.
Once cm7 is available, we will see huge battery improvements, i have no doubt. Gingerbread is much better w/ the battery than Froyo. I saw huge improvements between cm6 and cm7 nightlies on my droid, to the tune of 200% standby improvements. Still heavy use i wouldn't expect more than 15 hrs, but imo 10 hrs is ridiculous. There's not really a huge difference between heavy and light use in battery time either.

Buy an extra battery and wall charger off eBay... Throw the battery in your back pocket, and you're set all day. I swap the battery out after about 8 hours (when I get to about 20% battery) and I'm good the rest of the day. I've had to do this with EVERY Android phone I've purchased. The OG Droid would only get me about 10 hours right when I got it, but Undervoltage Kernels, and decent Rom's brought it up to around 16 hours on the standard battery. The Samsung Fascinate was horrible - Roughly 6-7 hours out of the box. Rom's got it up to around 12. The Droid Pro - 8 hours at most on the standard battery, never saw any improvements with my usage. Droid 2 - 10 hours out of the box, but when CM7 came out on it, I was averaging around 16 hours before I got the Revo. The 8 hour battery life didn't surprise me. I kinda expected it, and had already placed my battery/charger order before I went and got the phone. I'm not a fan of extended batteries just because of the extra bulk, plus finding a case w/an extended battery is a PITA. And the 3 minute downtime from a battery swap really isn't that bad (especially if you've ever had a Blackberry).

Dude, no kidding. I charge mine 2-3 times daily, plus the whole time driving to and from work. Android eats normally 50-60% of my battery. Sadly, I still love it. Plus I work for at&t selling these things. I tried the 3500mah battery, but I hate having a naked phone.

They say it's some sort of system glitch but no one knows the cause. I'm running Thriller which is amazing. Much better than stock. These phones have a lot of potential.
Change the Launer, try Launcherpro, after installing the launche reboot and see.
After a ton of research this is what I've found. I think its the answer as to why the battery is getting drained, but there doesn't seem to be a fix. I installed Juice Defender which has throttled my OS from coming on and leeching the internet whenever it feels like it. Sometimes I get cell standby, phone idle and display above android OS, which is a god send.
I found this out using Battery history and Betterbatterystats.
The main culprit seems to be the Suspend command. Google knows about this issue and LG had to of known but they released Froyo on the Thrill anyway.
Issue 11126
I use watchdog to monitor mine. At first I set it to alert me if it ever went above 30% which should be way to much but I got it so often I decided to move it up to 50% to give it a little extra time to "suspend" my phone. I get less alerts now so it must be working eventually but I've had it alert me at 80% before...suspend....using 80% processing power to put my phone to sleep?!?!? Thats rediculous. So you go into the "partial wake" section of betterbattery and battery history and you find out that the main culprit of keeping your phone awake and fighting "suspend" is either the "dialer" or "datatracker". Dialer seems to encompass anything that uses the internet but I could be wrong so that one is pretty broad. DataTracker turns out is your Fast Dormancy. There are many threads on the internwebs that tell you how to disable fast dormancy as its more of a neusance than usefull if the carrier isn't tuned right for it but none of these seemed to work for me so for now I'm stuck letting dialer and FD fight Suspend and just catching it when I can with Watchdog. Gingerbread can't come soon enough and hopefully its a version that fixes this as many users in the "issue" thread were using GB.
I lost tons of sleep over this and the only thing I could do was install Juice Defender. I hate depending on a 3rd party app to control and throttle everything on my phone but so far I still get all my push emails fairly instantly and really don't even notice its there, I still just hate the idea of it. but, for now it works. Yesterday I was at 27% after 17 hours of moderate use. Phone calls, emails, texts and maybe even some 3D gaming but I couldn't remember for sure. I also use Battery Graph to give myself a visual representation of my battery throughout the day and that helps me see when and where my batter is getting drained or if its going to sleep properly. Keeping my Wifi on also seems to drain it so unless I need fast internet I have it off. It doesn't seem to sleep properly when its on even if I have it set to "sleep when screen off" as the phone still likes to "partial wake" and run wild on the net.
Sorry if its long winded and confusing but after tons of research on this I've come to accept what I've found. I hope it has helped someone.

Not that it wouldn't charge, but the touch screen goes crazy while trying to use it on the after market charger. Once removed it was fine.
So yeah I would say only use the LG charger.

[Q] Anyone else regretting purchase?

I just got the Vivid on Friday and I'm starting to think I made wrong choice and shouldve gotten skyrocket. I love everything about it, camera, interface, gorgeous screen, etc..BUT, the battery is by far the worst i have ever experienced with a cell phone. By battery was completely dead by 3 this afternoon after fairly light use. Even with task killer, I'm at a loss for this battery's pathetic power. Anyone experiencing same problems? I don't expect a super battery, but when using the iphone 4 prior, the battery was worlds better, seriously. Any ideas? Are u guys experiencing same?
I love the phone you have to tweak the battery settings let the battery power up and then power down a couple of times I now get over two days on the same battery. The skyrocket has its own issues GPS which never sets burn in from the screen etc.
I had the Skyrocket for a few days and went back to get this phone. The Skyrocket does have it's share of issues. 1. No FM Radio which I kinda Like. 2. Not a fan of the UI, as I tend to like Sense more. 3. When watching movies in the dark let's say you get a black screen or dark for a moment, you can see small lines going through the movie until it changes to lighter scenes. If you can deal with those things than I would say go for the Skyrocket as it already has root and an OC/UV kernel plus some Roms are starting to pop up.

Were you baking a cake with it? I get at least 14 hours out of mine with moderate use. I switched from an iPhone 4 and have absolutely no issues. What's your brightness level set at, and what are your network/data settings (i.e. Wifi on all day, auto-sync, background data, GPS, etc.)?

Would you mind telling us how you're getting "over two days"? I'm happy with a full day and having to charge in the evening, but over two days would be phenomenal..
Also, I'm totally satisfied with this phone.. I think it's exceptional, even coming from the iPhone 4's awesome battery life. Boom.
Wow, 2 days on one charge?! Can't imagine that with what i've seen so far...hopefully after powering up a couple times, it'll improve. Do i need to let it drain completely before powering up? The battery is the only thing i'm disappointed in right now, but obviously its a major issues if the battery is just brutally weak
The first day I got this phone, it was dead in about 6 hours. However, when I use it like a phone, I'm getting ok battery life out of it. It's now at 40 percent and it's 8 pm.

Most task killers cause slower performance and in turn worse battery life. Android OS is designed to keep the RAM 2/3 full, so that apps you use are kept there, and don't require CPU cycles when you need them later, and it will automatically kill apps when it needs the RAM.
Almost all android phones see marked battery life improvement after a few charge cycles.

I am getting well over a day of usage. usually get a day and a half with a modest amount of wifi/mobile data usage and well over an hour 'on screen' time. almost posted a screen shot when i was at 1 day 19 hours and ~20% left, with a majority of time with wifi on and well over an hour of screen time.
auto screen brightness, no auto rotate, manual control of data and syncing.
I like to get 4 hours screen time out of a full charge. But I had an above average day of phone calls. Not bad... Definitely not bad for HTC and no modified kernel.

I'm coming from the HTC Desire and man o' man does this thing smoke. And the RAM. The Desire was so RAM starved it wasn't funny. While I did take advantage of some of the locally developed ROMs, I was just getting tired of playing games to get around the lack of memory on the Desire. This phone feels good too. To some it may be a bit heavy, but I like the weight and the larger (over the Desire 3.7") screen is very nice too.

That might be part of the problem. Google greatly improved memory management starting with FroYo (Android 2.2) so you really don't need to use a task killer. In fact, using 3rd party task killers interferes with the OS's internal system, which leads to slower performance and poorer battery life.
See this and this for more info regarding task killers.
I'd start with uninstalling the task killer, and then managing some of the peripheral features like GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc. Nothing is free battery-wise. If you don't use them, turn them off.

[Q] Bad Battery Life?

Is the O4X's battery life as bad as gsmarena is saying? Just a little over 4 hours of video playback and 4 hours of web browsing?
If you read the comments of the blog article on it, you will see that there is a lot of discussion over the brightness.
By comparison to the SGS3 and One X, the Optiums has a much brighter screen which will mean a lower battery life. Of course if they set all the phones to the same actual brightness (not percentage) the numbers would be different.
I am currently waiting delivery of my 4X, but after I have conditioned the battery (let the handset configure itself to the battery), I'll definitely be seeing what its capable of.
Alright thanks, I hope you'll be able to get back to this thread when you find out more.
I've had mine since friday and I think I've charged it about 3 or 4 times now and the battery life is getting better. It lasted only about 2 hours when I first charged it and started it for the first time. But I was using it constantly.
Today I started it in the morning (fully charged) before going to work and now, 10 pm, it's been on for about 16 hours and I have 40% left. Data have been on all day and I've been signed in to Google Talk all day, I've browsed the web for a total of aprox. 1 hour, used the camera, tested the GPS and been chatting with a friend on talk. So I'm pretty satisfied so far.
It's better than my O2X.

That's good to hear. How many hours was the screen on?
I'm not sure unfortunately. But i would say between 2-4 hours.
Edit: okay it was a little less than I thought. The. Battery usage in settings says the screen have been on for two and a half hours. And that's including the time I have used after 40%. I'm down to 25% now.
My Battery lasts after a few cycles all over two Days with medium Usage (No gaming - WA, FB, eMail)........
i ca go for 1 day, with a bit gaming and usual use.
I have slightly longer battery life on my 4X HD than on my Nexus S when using the phones in the same way (casual use). But I think there is room for improvment on the battery life with more optimized software either from LG or when we start seeing custom roms for this device.
I charged mine to 100% and just dropped 8% in 25 minutes, 20 minutes of that was driving and not using the phone, no Bluetooth or anything like that. The battery life is shocking and can't wait for extended ones to become available. Besides that I truly love this phone

How many complete charge cycles have you done?
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
When I got my p880 I did 3 battery cycles, and I could only get about 8 hours of standby alone, no other use at all. I then did a factory reset and formatting of the memory card, which I hadn't done when I switched from my old SE X8. Now my p880 can easily go more than a day with some gaming, calls, browsing etc. My guess is that old android files on the memory card was the reason for the bad battery life. No expert though, maybe someone else has a better idea.
Today I tried the Chrome browser, and it really drained the battery. Something like 20% after browsing for 15 mins. Anybody else have experience with this?
Overall I'm really happy with this phone, great screen, fluid operation, good battery.
I've had battery drainage issues with the chrome browser as well. Even in stand-by the browser would drain the battery. It has only happened like two times for me in the four weeks i've had the phone, so not a biggy but still something you should be aware of, if you experience battery drainage issues

I keep topping it up as I run most of my business from my phone so need it to have lots of juice in it. Today I'm going to completely drain it so it turns off then fully charge it again and see what happens
