Samsung released Video Call a 3G Video Call App for Mango WP7 Phones.
I couldn't find it in the Samsung Zone...
But it poped up in the Search when i clicked "more from SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS Co., Ltd." on the Details View from other Samsung Apps.
I can not test it right now, because I'm aboard for 2 weeks...
Maybe it can use also the Backcamera?? *hope*

Front facing camera is a requirement. However, how to make video calls without a ffcam?
I used Video Call on my old HTC Blackstone a lot, most of the the time i switched to the rear camera (to show something) or disabled the front one..
At least you can see the receiving video... i admit there are big drawbacks for the
most, but the app would not be complete useless for people without front camera.
And you can install the app without front facing camera...

I'm not agree with you, what video you will receive if your party have a handset without ffcam too?
Actually, in general it means - it's time to update your Samsung phone
P.S. BTW, I've attached zipped xap; may be our whitehats will find something interesting inside (and possible, reflect to source code and make it works with backcam)
P.P.S. Good news: app is non-obfuscated and can be easy reflected to the source code. On the first sight, it has a lot interesting stuff inside

stand in front of a mirror.....
I have recently bought Samsung focus S but i am not able to get the Video call app from samsung marketplace. It says application not available for my device. This phone has front facing camera then why i am not able to install the video call app. Can anyone post the latest version XAP which can be installed by Tom XAP installer.
Thanks a lot.
I think it is because of Operator
It is disabled somewhere in registry.

Who was able to install it, tell us please your Region+Language settings, your operator and branding
Why dont you just use skype which as I remember allows videocalls using your back camera?

Have you actually used this for a teleconference? How did it work?
My network doesnt support it unfortunately.
So all i use for my front camera is a mirror / lame youtube blogs.
Actually I found out that the front camera takes photos much faster than the rear camera, and even though the resolution is not as good, the faster responsiveness often makes it a preferred tool for photos.
I've only used it once and it works well.
can someone post a pic from the front camera and post it here?
Here ya go.
at&t
does at&t support videoconference on its 3G? I have the Kaiser but no one to test with! I dont know anyone as self indulgent as myself who buys these things
dont mean to hijack this thread but can we use front camera for yahoo messenger or msn?

AT&T does support video calls, but you'll need to have a video calling packaged added to your line less you want extra charges. Another way for AT&T to make more $$. I can't wait for the day when video calls are no different from normal voice calls.

I was also wondering if (at the very least) one way teleconferencing would be available on AT&T (via cellular video)...obviously this is not on of the four supported phones, but with the 3g network in place it would be interesting to try...
Today when i was just casually going through a review, i found out that my HTC Diamond is a bit different compared to others. Mine doesn't have a camera on the front like others are having :s

^ See mine has no hole on the right side. Its just plain :s
I got my Diamond from India with bill, can anyone else confirm that even they don't have the second camera ?
You probably have the indian variety without 3G, and thus no use for the front camera. Well you can use it for other things than video calls, but that's the main reason for the front cam.
either that or you have the north american CDMA version
like this one ?
yeah. I don't have the second cam. I can imagine disabling 3G with Indian Rom but removing the camera is stupid imo
I got mine on craigslist.org for 360.00 us sprint model. it has no front video call camera nor does it have fm which I also read in a review but for 360 and the fact I never made a video call it does not bother me. The only thing I hate is all the Sprint branding and crapware!
FM

you can install the FM radio cab and get that radio functional if you want

even if you install the fm radio cab, the radio still won't work, cause HTC didn't put the radion tuner in the sprint version, or most of the cdma variants for that matter.
Now, if you have a US GSM version, you can install the radio cab to make it work, and it also doesn't have front facing cam too...

It's not searchable in the marketplace. You need to download it using the link directly on the phone.
I strongly recommend using the QR code from the official blog post.

Are Skype calls on the Beta version free? Seems I can make outbound calls through the dial pad ! Am I going to receive a bill later on ?
not every region can download that.

No, not for the moment and there are a lot of complains on their forums about it too.
Me for one, I don't like it that it wont stay live either, not even with Push notifications, but its also said in an interview that they're working on a solution
IM: It is not possible to receive IM's when Skype is not in foreground
Workaround: None available

(put it big so that it may help others with questions too, seeing as XDA is not the place for reactions (well you get my drift )
Does anyone remember a photo mode where you would hold the camera in place and a person would walk through your scene and it would take 4 or 5 shots and superimpose the latter shots onto the first image creating a picture wih 4 or 5 clones of the same person.
What was that photo mode called? can I install it on the note 8?
Here is an example I found while searching for the name

Sorry.. I had a Xiaomi phone that did that.
You could do a panoramic shot and just pause and let the person relocate before you continue swiping
That mode is called Drama. I have been trying to locate it as well since the Note 3 but cant seem to locate it. The modes were better when they were preinstalled but now that we have to download those modes it gets tricky because you tend to forget which modes you had on previous devices. The only thing close I've found was a Motion app made by Sony in the Play Store. It's not native to the camera app like Drama was but it'll give you the end result you're looking for.

I do but haven't come across that feature since the Note 3.
I've noticed that these things are becoming popular,
And I thought why not make one for my Android head unit?
After doing some research in Computer Vision and hacking my car's android, I'm happy to announce that it works
You can see a live demo in my youtube channel - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzpn0ROKkX8
The solution is software only - it uses complex computer vision algorithm (optimized the hell of it for embedded devices) to draw a top view of the surroundings of the car.
It translates rear camera view:

}
into top camera view (with memory of previous seen space - its a buch of mathematics that does that inside):
Hope soon to release the app

And I thought why not make one for an Androd MCU? (I have a cheap chinese one, some kind of Joying variant I guess)
Existing solutions use 4 cameras with an extra unit that stitches them together or using odometry.
I'm aiming for a software-only solution, using only Android MCU and reverse cam that we already have.
Doing some research on my PC, I've managed to achieve some progress.
You can watch the video in my youtube channel
Managed to open reverse cam with OpenCamera app and even record a video.
For that killing SofiaUIServer process on my MCU was needed coz its responsible for turning on the camera as soon as you hit reverse.
That means that I can write a pure android app that does the bird view (hopefully performance won't be an issue).
Now it's only a matter of time (and will) until I finish that little project on Android.
What do you guys think, will there be a demand for such a thing?

I am interested in this project.
I have both rear and front cameras. The front camera can be opened only with F-CAM app which does not do recording. It would be nice to have both cameras showing on screen and recording. My system is mtcd based and I am not sure if your app would work.
Update:
I have a working demo in my car which can be seen in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlUI662VCA8

Thanks
