[Q] Disable Multitouch on Milestone? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Hey,
My touchscreen is giving me problems. When I run touchtest, i see that there is a consistent touch spot in the right side of the screem. Now I am thinking, if i disable multitouch, the phone might stop recognising that spot, and allow me to use the phone properly.
So is there anyway I can disable multitouch on Milestone?

My first guess would be if you disable multitouch (but I have no idea how) your screen will only recognize the spot on the right side and nothing else anymore

^ +1
I would suggest trying to find out why it happens and fix it, not try to find a workaround. Just a tip

Welcome to club... the milestone has a know problem with its digitizer - the part responsable for the touch screen...
You will probably have to replace it or change phone as it will getting worse....

[Q] Screen inaccuracy issues

I know that this has been a fairly common complaint about the Nexus One but i'm wondering, roughly what percentage of people actually have this issue? To clarify, i mean the problem whereby touching the screen in one place is actually registering elsewhere on the screen.
I've had this problem since buying my n1 and having to constantly turn the screen off and back on again was driving me nuts. Finally i sent the unit back to Vodafone for repair and they in turn sent it to HTC to be fixed. So yesterday i got it back with an enclosed statement along the lines of "we have fixed your fault etc..".
Three minutes into using the damn thing and the fault crops up again. So much for that! To be fair to Vodafone they are sending out a replacement unit now but of course i'm concerned that even that will have the same issue.
What are the odds?
Here is the same.
To developers: the fact that resetting the screen fix the problem makes me to ask if there isn't a way to make the screen re-calibrate itself every X seconds/minutes, without shut off and on the screen every time. Seems to be until now the only solution to this extremely annoying issue.
It really is a bizarre one. I've seen people discussing whether it's a hardware or software issue but nobody seems to have a definitive answer. If it were a hardware problem, surely it would be constant/permanent? If it's a software issue i would have thought that somebody would have bug-fixed it by now? Especially as it seems so prevailant.
I'm stumped!
Other than this one problem though i am completely in love with this phone. The device itself feels solid, durable and pleasant to use. Android is improving all the time and it always impresses when you demonstrate to the un-initiated what the device is capable of. So close to perfect...but not quite!
EDIT... This from the wiki.. "- Q5: Sometimes my screen registers touches in incorrect places, and I need to turn the phone off and on to make it work correctly again
A: This is a hardware problem, nothing can be done about it. Nexus One's digitizer sucks.
Ho-Hum.
I have experienced this problem on android 2.1 ever since upgrading 2.2/2.2.1, I haven't had the problem. I'm very happy with my screen

That suggests a software problem although i have had it on 2.1, 2.2 and now 2.2.1. I would say that it has happened to me within three minutes of using the phone, 50% of the time within that three minute window. In other words it's cropped up in half the texts/emails i have sent where i have had to do the screen off/on thing to complete the message.
Very annoying.
It has to do mostly with the way people hold their phones, the possibility of registering false touches - including, for example, touching the screen with fingers that aren't completely dry. Some have the issue more than others.
HW issues still can have SW workarounds sometimes. I'm not sure if it's the case. HW and SW need to be analyzed to find one, if exists.
There is no "calibrating" capacitive touchscreen. Resetting its controller might have effects like missing touches and other random screen misbehavior (for example - if the controller is tracking fingers, resetting it would cause it to lose the tracking).
Since getting my phone back from 'repair' the issue is less frequent, suggesting that it's not a usage problem as i'm obviously still using the phone in the same manner as before. Instead it seems that various devices suffer from the problem in varying degrees.
I suppose if i knew what they had actually done to the phone while it was being tended to it might help us discover why the frequency of the problem has been reduced. I know that the digitizer wasn't replaced as the phone came back with the same screen protector on it as it had when i sent it off. That being said, they obviously did something. I just don't know what!
Most probably replaced the phone's MB.
Try upgrading to the latest radio - the issue will probably not be 100% solved, but now I only get it maybe once a month or so...
I may tell them not to bother sending out a replacement. It's happening far less often since it was returned and (going by the poll results), there's a good chance that the replacement could actually be worse than this one is now.
Perhaps the 2.3 update will jar something loose.
ATTENTION PLEASE!!
after flashing miui latest ROM i've never had touchscreen issues anymore in over 20 hours of hard usage (also with the phone in charge!!).
I don't believe is a coincidence, developers please ask miui developers if they have integrated a code to fix this issues.
Thanks!

I have already restored cyano 6.1.1.
However, about "multitouch issues" I mean inaccuracy, the fact that the touch is recognised in another point of the screen (particularly when you press the bottom part of the panel). I didn't verified the axes-inversion issue, but I'm almost sure that it persists.
The "touch inaccuracy" is nothing else than the usual axis-swapping thing. When accidental dual touches (palm/holding fingers/water/etc) happen, the digitizer goes nuts.

I don't think so....I pay attentions when the screen goes crazy. I'm absolutely sure that (in charge for example) my touch is ONE.
The only times I was able to trigger the "screen nuts" effect, were when I was typing 2-fingered, and fast - making it register dual touches. Moreover, sometimes a single touch with a single finger is reported as series of touches. Once it happens, it stays until screen off.

I mean this....since I moved to MIUI this is not happened anymore.
Since I uninstalled Htcime the inaccuracy issues seem less so far! Almost only with the phone under charge ...much much better than before! Dunno why....

[Q] Screen not being sensitive on some parts in ALL CM7 roms?

What's up with this? I noticed it first in GingerDX and Doixnah confirmed it himself, but it is not a rom bug, as it also happens in MiniCM.
In my case I have a Cypress digitizer and the screen is not sensitive on the bottom pixels and on the right border pixels. Very annoying for typing spaces and the letter P, for example.
I have the same problem with my phone...I also have cypress digitizer...
The digitizer causes the problem because synaptics users doesn't have this problem.
I do not think that doixanh or other develop able to fix this bug becaus he don't have cypress...
AndyX has cypress digitizer,
but I don't think that's fixable...
it's hardware problem, not software...
its issue don't available on CM6 rom's and on some app its issuen don't available(like Xda android app(if you move your finger from phisycal keybord to up than scrolling works))
and i know AndyX have cypress....
I have this problem in all ROMs..Even in stock!

hmm... instresting... i don't' have this problem on cm6 and stock...other's have this problem on cm6 and stock?
Basically my phone sometimes recognizes my finger at the bottom of the screen and sometimes not...
It depends on how dry are my fingers.
I noticed a strange thing in launcher pro.
If you swipe from right to left, the screen is not reacting to it, ok. But try it when you set 3 homepages in LP and you are on the last screen! Strangely it works then, you can "overpull" the page easily.
Now this is some strange sh*t :-S

How about changing fling speed in LP options? It might help.
On the other hand, that's the way that Launcher Pro is designed...to be smooth and you don't have to swype from one edge to an another to change screen
Peace, DDI!
hmm in my case this didn't happen in pre-CM7 roms
Had the same problem with my digitizer. Just put in a replacement off eBay and works fine now.

You don't understand. I wrote this because in some case the screen edge is responsive, else it doesn't. So I think this is not hardware related problem. I just mentioned this because it is a strange thing about 2.3 ROMs VS cypress.

It isn't a hardware problem, so replacing the digitizer is nonsense.
Definitely, it's not hardware problem.
Just try to rotate screen for 180 degrees (must check 180 in accelerometer settings) and You will see that edge next to the Sonyericsoon logo will become the problematic one. And The edge with buttons will work perfectly.
I have cypress, too and this problem exist only in CM7 roms, on all CM6 rom there is no such issues with screen.
Also, I noticed that this bug doesn't appear in some apps. Also in settings, screen work perfectly.

Nice findings, pal.
i don't have any problem with this in any rom. All screen is sensitive with all roms i've used, GingerDX, KuyaDROID, MiniCM7, MiniCM6, FroyoBread, Floyo, GingerCruzt, stock rom, i'm with Cypress and AX8MT module and it's working fine, no lags, sensitive, and the dual touch is also very fast responding.

screen responsiveness problem

Every couple of days I have a problem with the screen becoming VERY unresponsive. It seems to affect the whole screen and requires touching characters on the keyboard, web buttons, app icons, etc. multiple times before the touch is registered. The problem persists until I reboot the device.
I haven't rooted yet or otherwise modded it at all, but maybe I have a poorly optimized app running? Haven't tried to capture a logcat yet either (and frankly wouldn't know what I was looking at).
Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Thanks!
_john
Looks like mine is suffering something similar to the problems discussed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779652
I also have this issue. Was able to reproduce with multi touch tester apps. When I cross axis the touch points freak out. I think it's a grounding issue. If I touch the headphone jack or have headphones in the issue goes away. Called in a RMA request yesterday. Hope this issue isn't present in the next device.

[Q] Is it possible to fix this dual-touch bug? (video)

Hi,
There's this thing about the dual-touch module that really bothers me a lot lately. Since it is difficult to put the issue into words, I've uploaded a video for you people to see what the thing is.
See how the touch is recognized in the middle? It happens quite often since I write text messages very fast. Is this possible to fix? Or do the hardware limitations force me to live with it?
Sorry about the quality - the video was recorded using another Xperia device
Relevant info:
Digitizer: Cypress
ROM: FroyoPro v2.5
Kernel: Stock
Have you seen this video? It is too smooth for syncaprtics. It is definitely cypress.

Sorry I haven't mentioned this before. The touchpanel is definitely a Cypress one. I will add this information to the first post.
Also to note: ROM is FroyoPro v2.5, kernel is stock (bootloader cannot be unlocked).
Is this even normal behavior for the Cypress digitizer? It almost seems as if you suggest it isn't. This bug/problem is one of the things that actually made me want to root the original device. But even though the phone is 2x better than it was before, this problem still persists, and can be annoying at times.
The solution would be most welcome.
This is quite annoying when I'm typing on the keyboard... when I type quickly it thinks very often that I pressed a button halfway between my 2 fingers...
edit: I have tested it with 3 multitouch tester apps and I can't reproduce the problem. Something else causes the keyboard to operate wrongly (happens with all keyboard applications).

Same thing happened on stock ROM (I applied the dual touch module before switching to FroyoPro), so I don't think the ROM is responsible. All the keyboards suffer the same issue, except 2.3 Gingerbread Keyboard which performs passable. I really wonder if this case is specific to my phone or do other people have the same issue. Because, if they do, I might as well drop this and blame it on the phone

But I like doing everything fast
Here's just an update on the issue.
Recently I had a chance to try another Xperia X8 with a Synaptics digitizer, and luckily the owner had a Gingerbread ROM installed on it. I can say with certainty that dual touch had indeed performed better in typing than on my unit, albeit the Multitouch Visualizer gave some really strange results when both fingers were on the screen. The owner also said that other effects like pinch-to-zoom and performance in games seem to work a lot better on Cypress.
I did some homework regarding the dual touch module made for Cypress devices. Among other things, the developer wrote about this issue which caught my eye:
"- on FroyoBread sliding position of touch from first finger to second if you release first and quicly press second finger in another position - could you check both v003 versions guys ?"
FroyoPro actually is a continuation of FroyoBread, and this sounds very much like the issue I'm having right now.
Can Cypress users (especially if you're also FroyoBread users) please confirm if this problem is common to all of us, so perhaps flashing another ROM, like Gingerbread, could actually solve it?

did i understood your statement right?.. that if you press a finger at one position and then press at another postition and quickly remove the first finger it acts like a sliding gesture...if so then yes it does... it does the same on all the roms i have tried yet...

Aye. But that was the statement of the module creator, AnDyX, not mine Just tried it on the launcher screen. It was funny that it actually forced me to the next screen without doing the slide gesture. This confirms the issue. The module perceives it as a single touch that slided from the first to the second finger. Not as two touches altogether. Typing with it is really a nuisance.

that action is so fast that it interprets it as a continuous slide....we cant do anything in that.. but it should not give problems in typing... just try to estimate the minimum gap that is required for proper typing so that you can type at the max possible speed.....

[Q] Inverted Digitizer Replacement Help

I have now purchased two different digitizer, and both of them suffer from inverted touch screen. It also seems to be off from being directly inverted.
Is there any rom, or fix for the scenario or app to resync the touch accuracy.
Thanks
Have the same problem. Tried two diffrent sellers and three different digitizers. The option and back buttons also don't work. Have you found a solution or someone who actually sells working ones?
I remember hearing about this issue before. I remember reading something about a manual calibration app from a Chinese android tablet that we tried to get working on here, but I don't think it worked out...
As for the buttons not working, do you mean that they work but aren't the correct function, or they just flat out don't do anything?

Same issue with my d-415
I Just installed a new LCD on my l90 and got the same results. The y- axis is inverted. Both the back and menu keys don't work at all. I did notice that when I rotate the screen the samex-axis is inverted . Which leads me to believe it to be a hardware issue and not in the firmware. Because the same inverted axis would move with the rotation right? ... I am going to do some more research. Probably disassemble and check over the connections with usb scope and see what I can't find. Let me know if you figure it out. Thanks!
