so, im new to theming... and im working toward getting a black status bar... i have pulled 'framework-res.apk' from my phone and modified 'status_bar_background.png' to black and replaced it in the apk... is there anything else that i need to do, or can i safely push it back to my phone and test it? all i want to do change is the status bar color from that icky blue to black... not change the color of the clock/text, etc... just want to be positive i can go forward, thanks
i figured the general section would be best, since i dont have a working black status bar yet to share with everyone... my apologies if it should have been posted in themes instead
EDIT 1: for the record, i am running the stock deodexed 890 from rootzwiki... i tried it, and it booted fine, but the only black in the status bar is the notifications area in the drop down... going to continue on my quest to get a fully black status bar lol... will continue to post edits of my advancements as i make them

As the title says I'm just wondering if an app can be created to change the status bar colour on non rooted phones for example appsdesktop changes the status bar colour to black so I'm wondering if it could be implented in an app or home replacement.

only with a rooted device atm
it might be possible in a home replacement, seeing as they change just about everything else. as for phones without home replacements, pentace is right, the only way to do it is with a rooted phone, because you have to be able to change the statusbar.png located in the framework-res.apk, which requires that you be able to flash a custom image containing theme elements. if you have a rooted phone, the process is relatively simple. you can even do it with a stock 1.5 rom if you replace the right file.
I was wondering if it is possible to install a fully working white notification bar on the Evil Eris ROM v3.0. I've tried searching the forums and have installed the bar successfully, but the clock is white on a white background, which is extremely annoying. I've tried fixing it with the new spare parts by changing the clock color and still no go. Any help would be nice. Thanks.
try going into the zip file for the white notification bar and changing it? I dont know, im basically a noob, just about a year of experience
Changing the clock color requires you to edit the services.jar file. Do a search of the entire site on changing the clock color.
I've done it before but it's not easy. Requires smali and baksmali and opening up a classes.dex file.
The only zip I could find was 5.0.6. I downloaded it and tried to flash it, but afterwards it hangs on startup, and the blue "X" animation turns back into the red/green/yellow/blue one, and just loops forever. Help?
man im having so much trouble finding a Black notifcation/status bar for CM 508. i just want a reverse of the stock bar.. im not really a fan of the desire bar but i cant find one anywhere
You could just take a working morph theme for cyanogen and replace the proper image files inside with the black bar. I've done that in the past.
But actually cyanogen 508 should have tons of working morphs, black bar and all. Why can't you find any?
im not so crash hot with the themeing etc.. i would have thought a simple black bar and black drawer would have been out there but i jst cant see anything in my searches.. everything out there seems to be a desire black bar or people's own 'tanged' versions.
i really jst want a black bar with stock icons and black tray haha

It's what I'm using.
I had a hard time finding a theme I wanted and didn't have the time to make my own, all I was wanting was a special status bar that was partially transparent. So heres what its come down to, I used the KewlGrey Theme and mixed it with the Stock DE03 Theme. Added in KewlGrey Status Bar, Status Backround, Different Font, and last but not least the Color of the Notification when you touch it.
EDIT: The forum will not allow me to post the image URLs and the ZIP for the theme is to large to be uploaded in the manager
EDIT2: Managed to upload the pics but cant get the theme up yet due to Newbie restrictions
The fact that the notification-bar icons are actually larger than the grey background bar makes it look rather messy.
Also the date (when the notification bar is pulled down) has a different grey background as well.
I think you should sort these things out first, to be honest

I actually didnt notice that till you said it, Ill get right on that.
Is there any transparent notification bar metamorphs out there?
I think this might be what you are looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768628
If you only want the status bar and not the font and apps and what not, just run the framework-res part. Let me know if you need help. Enjoy.
I did see that but couldnt tell if the notification bar was transparent or not.
Thank you
Yeah i flashed it and its nice and looks great, But i still want something with a completely transparent bar.
Tried that the first run, and it looked great when using LP+ and having the status bar hidden. When you would hit the notification button, it would pop down and you would only see the icons/letters/numbers etc, but otherwise it just shows up as a blank-black area. Something to do with that space is allotted
for the status bar and you don't really get it back, just because it's transparent. There might be a way around it, but not really sure yet. If you wanna try it, this was the first run of Transparent Chaos:

Yeah I've been looking for the same thing for a few weeks. They can't do it on the eris yet though because of something with rosie and it not taking the background all the way up to the top so it would always look black anyway.
Sent from my nonsensikal froyo using XDA App
I think it's LP+ that doesn't allow the transparency because it just shows black behind the bar. I've heard that it works with ADW Launcher because of an option it has, I haven't tried it though because I prefer LP.
I'm pretty sure that's not it. I just tried it, and got the same results as LP+.
