Can someone please explain to me why it takes LG 6 (or more...) months to ready gingerbread for O2X?
Isn't android ready from google? All that LG has to do is to install the drivers for tegra and so on?
I know that all others as slow with updates from google, but WHY?

Maybe because they have a lot of work to do with porting an android version to our phone which is not in pre-alpha state...it's like a new experience for them..they should take their time if its worth it..
Do LG have to port android 2.3 to O2X?? Dont understand how android works at all. Isn't it finished by google and LG only have to install bloat and drivers????
please
If they wanted, it would run 2.3.4 already, that´s 100% sure.
If you think it is that easy why don't you do it by your own. There are mods out there with gingerbread and guess what they have bugs! Why is everybody so keen on gingerbread. My phone does an excellent job!

You misunderstood a little..or you did not read..
Who said it´s easy?
LG is not a modding company
LG is not cm teamduche..doing things for free
LG is a huge-huge company, who can afford to PAY
And from a selling point: you want the latest android? - get the new flagship
Edit: of course, it´s just speculation
The new LG phone that leaked seems to have gingerbread on it: http://pocketnow.com/android/mystery-phone-roundup-motorola-htc-and-lg-photos

No it doesnt do an excellent job - besides the obvious problems with bsod and rebooting which many are facing, it also has a number of other very annoying issues which everyone are effected by and which everyone hopes gets resolved with Gingerbread. Your phone are no different than any other O2x and your phone has exactly the same issues as everyone elses. Just because you may not be experienced enough to recognize these issues, doesnt mean your phone does an excellent job - it only means your standards are less than others.
If we ever do get a properly optimised Gingerbread fixing these issues, then you will perhaps have a better understanding of how this phone should be running, considering the hardware.
Man even if there would be no reason for 2. 3 i just wanna have it , only the custom ginger roms that were gonna have is more than enough as a update reason . Dude we are like frozen atm stuck at optimated stock roms and thers not much left to "optimale "
I too have no bsod or reboots not even once. The only problem i have is poor battery but this is also the case for all android phones. Other than that. Been very happy with my phone and I'm sure gingerbread will make me happier.

The answer is easy... that's because they are LG !!
Try to sell as many as possible
So they spend most of time to promote their products, not spend time for software..
Don't you see? How long they spend for reboot fix...and yet not solve it
But why is it so hard to port android from google to the different phones?
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Too big HW diversity, crapy HW designs, bug-plagued drivers..
From my opinion, they need their own unique.
if the software is the same (standard from google)
the market share would be seized by Samsung, HTC, Sony.
However, LG still lack of professional to solve most of problem that the end users are suffering (like us, freezing/rebooting problem)

'cause each company has to adapt their drivers for each phone. That's why it's hard.
And here is why it take so long : because they all feel forced to add a stupid brand layer (LG Home, LG apps... But that's true with most of the companies).

Hmm... Can't understand that either... Drivers for tegra 2 is made by nvidia right? All LG has to do is add the driver to google's android? Other HW in the phone is not developed by LG either so they will have a driver from the manufactor wont they?
All i see that LG have to do is to develop the awful crapware they ship the phones with. That would perhaps take some time... but 6!! SIX!! months???
hey guys. i'm over from the lg optimus one forum.
if you havent noticed, miui is casting a vote on which device they should port MIUI to (the vote can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/questions/217517851641131/?qa_ref=ssp). as you can see, both the optimus black and the optimus one are losing to the more popular, higher-end devices.
if you are a fan of miui, then this might be of interest to you. the reason why i am posting this here is because it turns out that you can vote for more than one phone. i believe that if we support each other and cast a vote for both of our phones, we may stand a chance against those other phones. i know that maybe only one device will get it but anything is better than where we stand right now.
if you are not a fan of miui, then please disregard this message (but even if you are not a fan of miui, please support our phones by casting a vote for both of them).
i thought that you guys might understand as we (LG users) are the underdogs to companies such as samsung and motorola
Dont worry p970 is already on the porting list.

P970 = optimus black
One of Cyanogenmod devs has p970 and already released early alpha.
Eventually if he finished cm7 porting, miui is next. As i say OB is on miui porting list. They need cm first.
Please take a look on cyanogenmod release & changelog.
I've already voted both facebook poll & miui porting advice thread. I also shared both links to several forums and social networks, lets hope our phone gets one

at least you guys are on the porting list. we already have a working (and almost official) cm7 but the optimus one is not even on any porting list. miui ports for our phone have not been successful because our phone has an armv6 processor; in the words of another user:
popdog123 said:
Well i'm back... finally finished my exams and got some time for myself.
But i have a bit of bad news. I've been studying android and how it's build and how it works and i'm afraid this might be an impossible port to make for now. I've looked into the Galaxy 3 port and it's not an actual port. It's just the framework. So it is possible to port apps from the rom but they might not work fully because of incompatible libs.
Now about the libs, they are compiled specifically for a type of processor (in miui case armv7) which have some instructions built in. While armv7 may run armv6 libs it's not possible the other way around. So even if we got the phone to boot, and got the launcher and a few miui apps running it wouldn't be miui.
I see that SWEATTAIMI is still working to complete the port of the framework and i wish him the best of luck but i will have to step down since i am working on other android projects that are more likely to come to an end than this.

LG just officially announced version 3.0 of its custom interface, which it is now calling 'Optimus UI'. The updated skin aims to be "unobtrusive and simple" according the LG, as well as bring a handful of new features to LG's handsets:
The ability to unlock the phone by dragging anywhere on the screen
A new Pattern Lock that allows users to preset the most frequently used function, such as the camera, which automatically opens once the phone is unlocked
A simpler version of Optimus UI 3.0 for new smartphone users which organizes the main applications so that they are the easiest to access
A new Voice Shutter that allows users to capture photos using only voice commands
A special camera feature that enables users to pick up the best shot among multiple images including the moment just before the shutter button is depressed
An Icon Customizer that provides an additional level of personalization by allowing users to set their own photos as icons and shortcut images
The addition of a Download category to the menu for easier organization
According to LG Mobile CEO Jong-seok Park, the updated UI is a push to set LG apart from other manufacturers, as "both carriers and customers tell [us] that they want LG phones to look and feel unique and the UI plays a big part in that" (even though it still look remarkably like Samsung's TouchWiz UI).
The first smartphones to see this updated version of Optimus UI are the Optimus LTE II, which comes out this week in Korea, followed but the Optimus 4X HD, which should be available in June.

Phone makers spend way too much time making silly UIs. They should spend their time making great looking phones (hire a decent designer) with great hardware. Have their devs make a simple and functional version of the stock android, and then let independant devs do the rest. Most people don't buy the phone because of the UI overlay, and they are all fairly similar anyway.

It's so nice to feel the LG cares about software too Even though I agree with what has been said above, that the indie devs do a great job and manufacturers could just choose to let the software up to the indies, as a buyer I must say it does bring me some joy the thought of oficial goodies coming my way.
Even though I might not use it... but at least it will be something that the indies might re(use) in their fantastic works.

As far as I know, no Tegra 2 phone has an official ICS ROM, even an early leaked build. So I think nvidia has as much to blame as the manufacturers.
Yet I have an incredibly fast version on ics on my tegra2 tablet. That alone tells me its not the hardware issues that manufacturers are touting as the reason ics is questionable on the Tegra systems. I think once an Indie dev shows its possible your just making yourself look foolish, or simply incapable, by standing your ground.

They'll be back when the kernel source code is released (don't worry, LG is legally obliged to release it due to the contract terms of using Android).
I doubt the devs can just pick apart the Korean .kdz file to extract binaries - they need the source code. And we know the source code WILL come now, it's just a matter of time.
Hang on man, I'm excited myself. Especially being in North America where we are unlikely to get any OTA update.
hehe, forward your message to LG man ;P

LOL, I think Stefan already announced that this would happen. Although the SU660 and the P990 have the same specs there are slight variations in the partitioning and so on that makes it impossible to just mix-and-match ROMs. Same for just about every phone with regional variations, it's to prevent people from easily debranding phones and removing carrier bloatware. It's nothing that our devs can't overcome... but they need source code first.

I think you should inform yourself a little more.before creating a thread calling for developers.
I don't know of a single dev who has a "lack of interest", most are quite excited. If it would be easily possible to port the SU660 ROM to the P99x one it would already have been done. It is NOT the "same" phone.
And keep in mind that this phone never had a lot of - how to phrase it - "real kick ass developers".
The best thing which could have happened to our phone was arcee, his skills are amazing. Without him the LG 2x custom ROM scene would be nowhere near the current state.

If you have been following the threads about the leak, you would know that they can't do anything at the moment because basically they still need the kernel sources to work (which we still don't have) and in consecuence you wouldn't have posted this (right?).
I'm a developer and I don't really like this kind of stuff. It feels like pressuring them to get working on something, remember they are doing this for fun / self training and for free - so please people let them be. If something new happens they will be the first ones to inform about it.

I'll leave that to you because you know that more than that have sold their Optimus 2X and G2X phones and moved on and others such as RC have "put it on the shelf" and, depending on LG releasing ICS with accessible NVIDIA hardware drivers and whether he thinks it is worthwhile spending his time on it instead of his current and future interests, he may or may not be counted among the developers who "moved on" (hopefully not).

Yes, JB alpha for the O2X was just released but ICS and JB are already available for other, older, phones with less worthy hardware. W're fortunate that, in spite of NVIDIA and LG causing development for the O2X to be somewhat masochistic, there are still some developers working on it. If LG releases a public version of ICS with a locked bootloader for the SU660/P990/P999, there will be even fewer developers. It is interesting to note the lack of developers commenting about my post. I think they understand where I am coming from.

1. The opposite will happen when we get the official ICS release (which will most likely have the locked bootloader, yes). More devs will gain interest as there's finally something to do instead of waiting. The locked bootloader will be annoying but there will be ways around it.
2. The real devs usually don't read xda in general and not the general section in particular. No wondering why...
3. Start learning to develop your own stuff then the 2x will be exactly the way you want it to have. No offense, but this thread leads to nothing.

Good luck.
Dear Omni ROM team,
ever since waiting for my upgrade to Android 4.0.4 on my LG Optimus 3D, I was wondering, how the community would treat such devices in the near future.
Why is a 2011 smartphone already considered "old" and why not ? The Optimus 3D is no exception here and I hope I can start a discussion about this matter here.
On my Optimus 3D I can run (nearly) any app, without problems, without frameloss. I can take photos in a good quality, I can listen to mp3s, use it as flashlight, I can use youtube, facebook or use it as a navigation system. It tells me about the weather, I can recieve emails and sms and in the end I can use it as phone. Just like any other smartphone.
I have to admit, I dont have OctaCore, I dont have 4 GB of RAM and I cant use the android PS2 emulator above 12 fps. But that is okay to me. Maybe adding a lighter to smartphones would be a good idea. Or a knife, or a screwdriver...
Im not one of those "Hey, I got the newest Android Custom ROM on my device, how about you ?" guys. But for sure I dont want to be the last guy on earth using 4.0.4. Also, I wont buy a new device, just to have a newer android running.
For example, I maybe think of the day that I want to download an app and it will throw out an error ala "You need Android 4.4 to run this", while I know, that my device is still able to run that app / still powerfull enough to run that app.
I just recieved a LG G2 from my provider today and already decided to sell it on eBay. It wont recieve Android 4.3 and probably around march 2014, LG might introduce Android 4.4 for it. Might...sounds just like the story of the Optimus 3D to me. Sounds just like the story of most other smartphone brands out there.
Google claims, KitKat "was made" for devices with 512 MB RAM. Hey, I DO have that ! :highfive:
So why cant I use it ? :crying:
I know, it will never come. Neither from LG, nor from Cyanogen. Maybe as OmniROM ? I dont think so.
But why is that ? Is it "just" the huge variety of different smartphone models that makes development teams concentrate on the "newer" ones only ?
Are there just too many different smartphones around...too many to cover them all with custom roms ?
Why even include a function like OTA into smartphones, if a smartphone is already considered "old" after 1 year and beeing forgotten ?
It happened on the notebook/netbook/laptop market already. 10+ year old devices running on WIndows 7. Linux, Mac OSX and even Android (x86) made it into the PC sector.
Even the HTC Dream has a higher Andorid version then mine now. And it (nearly) works perfect.
I can see Optimus 3D development coming to a stop soon on xda. I try to understand why, but it is not easy.
What are your thoughts ?
