Hi there,
I have noticed that my phone has been acting weird lately. It does not charge as it should. I takes hours of charging just to reach 40% from 5%. the battery drains in about 4 or 5 hours of very light usage. I also charge it using the wall charger so it IS charging at full capacity. I have froyo flashed from the first day it was available and the problem started maybe yesterday~. Can anybody suggest some ideas??
Greatly appreciated!
check how many background services or amount of data usage in the background.
could be that your phone is using a lot of power.. so when you charge, it requires a lot more to compensate for the battery drain while charging.
have you installed many apps since flashing?
I think I have figured out the problem. It had to do with the new radio. I flashed the radio that enomther uploaded and everything is back to normal.
I had very few applications and most of them don't even run in the background.
I have had my Galaxy S for a bit over a week now and am pretty disappointed with the battery performance. Most days I take my battery off the charger at 7am and it reaches 15% low battery warning by 1-2pm. I do spend a fair amount of time reading XDA and listening to music. I'm currently running Stock JM1 firmware with no lagfixes.
Here's a list of my apps that I have installed:
http://www.appbrain.com/user/Lokhor/apps-on-the-samsung-galaxy-s
I am running JuiceDefender which I thought would make a big difference and does not. I have also set Tasker to change the Brightness level to 20 (below the safety threshold) when the battery reaches 50% or below, otherwise the brightness is at the minimum (30%).
I have heard that you need to condition the battery so I have been trying to do this but it doesn't seem to have had much effect. Today I used my phone only casually and it's currently at 22% after 12.5 hours. The battery use details show the following:
Display at 56% being on for 2h22m and 13s.
Cell Standby 18% Time on 9h21m, time without signal 13%
Phone Idle 7% Time on 7h33m
Android System 5% CPU usage 23m39s CPU foreground 24s
Android OS 3% CPU Usage 13m 27s
Is this normal? Is there anything I'm doing wrong?
Please help
I don't know what others are telling you about conditioning a LiIon battery but you don't have to. LiIon batteries don't suffer from what NiCad do. Some do suggest wearing the battery down to nil and then charging it up again. However, this is pretty bad for the battery and should not be done more than once every 30 cycles. With every LiIon battery I've ever owned I've either trickle charged it or charged it when it wasn't too low and they've all lasted over 3 years. I've never conditioned one.
Anyway, my advice to you is to see how long your battery lasts in standby. Mine could probably last 3 days or more if I don't bother it too much (with sync, wifi and all that good stuff). I find the worst contender for battery drain is the display. The only problem I see with your stats there is that I've played Asphalt5 for around an hour and a half which is quite heavy on juice and it only drains roughly 10%-15%. Then again you're browsing the web so maybe probably worse.
Oh, and when charging your phone, don't use the USB hooked up to a computer as it doesn't stop charging when it's full. Use the wall charger to charge.
no need to worry more

I found that charging it whenever it was convenient instead of when it was low would result in a charge that lasted ~24 hours.
I've noticed significant increase in battery life since I started waiting for the 15% charge warning, plugging it in till it was full and then unplugging it. I get 2-3 days of use this way.
I also set my email to only sync between 6 AM and 11 PM. I believe this helps a lot as well.
since we are about this topic, check this out

so if I'm listening to music during the day at work should I have my phone plugged into the wall charger or just let the battery run down?
Last night I took the charger off at midnight when it was full and when I woke up it had only dropped 5%. After reading my emails quickly it was at 93%.
it works fine either way

I find leaving the brightness on automatic uses up loads of battery. Setting it to lowest seems to make the phone last 24hrs+
I also found that having beautiful widgets clock/weather installed used up a lot of battery for some reason.
I don't use weather because it has to sync every so often to update it which to me is a waste...I'll just look outside. I also leave brightness on the lowest setting wherever I am as the screen is already very bright (why waste battery?).
My experiences with my SGS have taught me to be conservative with its battery. Anytime you turn the screen on, you eat power like crazy. The best bet is to just top her off whenever the need arises. Personally, I have found that I'm fine just topping her off in the car when I'm driving, so that I start my work day at high 90's, and especially once I've got my morning browsing out of the way, I don't eat a big chunk of battery at any other time.
But yes, if you find you are running low, you can happily just take a half hour to charge from a USB port to give you an extra boost. Alternatively, spare batteries and so forth do the same thing, although it can be annoying if you don't have a charger that will do the phone and a spare battery at once.
im experimenting with apndroid now to turn of 3g then i dont specifacly need it. It comes with an on/off widget. Looks promising so far. 40% at 2300 hour and then i have used wifi a bit, played angry birds and talked for about 2 hours in total.
So i have been noticing my Tab 3 8.0 has been having issues charging and draining battery pretty fast. Today im noticing in this one battery widget that it initially plugged in charges good then the charge rate drops off (note I'm using the charging cable and wall adapter it came with.) Then earlier this morning it drained down to 40% in an hour after being charged 100% overnight all i was doing on the device was surfing tapatalk/facebook and messaging a group of friends. Iv also noticed plugging and unplugging the micro usb from the device will get it to charge at a higher rate but then drop again.
I've also noticed after the system update, kitkat i think it was i noticed my battery lift become a lot less than it originally was. I have the my screen brightness set at the min setting all the time yet the device shows 70% battery usage from the screen in the settings/battery tab.
Not sure if anyone hss encountered this issue before. I'm at a loss and almost ready to contact samsung to have them look the device over.
I tried posting a screen shot of what im talking about but i do not have a high enough post count
Edit: it showed about 39% charged i unplugged it for a min and it jumped to 99% and lost 6% charge in a few min and its bouncing back and forth between 90s and 30s%
EDITEDIT: Fixed the jumping around battery % with a cache wipe/factory reset. New problem I burned 80% of my battery in about 2 hours of light usage screen a min brightness all power savings on while only on facebook messenger.

Hi guys i noticed when the battery is charged fully it drops really fast from 100% to 98% within a minute.. (doing nothing exept turning on screen) Then it keeps dropping "fast" to about 75% But then it stablize.. Very weird. Im satisfied with the battery life becouse most of the time i get 4 hrs Screen on time...... Just noticed the fast discharge from 100% +- to 75%
Is this normal?
Also when fully charged 100% it shows 4,25mV... I thought everything above 4,2mV is bad?

Hello, I'm encountering a weird issue with my phone.
It seems to be happening when I don't fully charge the phone, even though it's kinda random.
The issue is that the battery is draining damn fast after charging the phone. The first screenshot shows how I lost ⅓ of my battery in 14 hours without having touched the phone. There's a difference between the beginning curve and the ending curve, that's because I tried to reboot my phone.
I do have AccuBattery installed, which is an awesome app. And it actually shows me than during this interval, I lost around 600mAh (see second screenshot). That should represent 15%, which would be a good value because I'm usually losing around 1% per hour. I shouldn't have lost so much battery.
So.. it seems that the battery is not being charged at 99% at all? I think my battery level has some issues. Because when charging, it usually stays at 100% for around 20 minutes, but is still charging according to AccuBatrery. This can be noticed on normal charges (third screenshot).
If a charge from 19 to 100% charged about 3300mAh and a charge from 7% to 100% charged about 3620mAh, my last charge from 10% to 99% shouldn't charge only 3400 mAh. And that's related to my problem of "phone is still charging even at 100%".
I already tried to empty my battery and fully charge it, I already tried to wipe cache, the issue is still coming back.
Is anyone else encountering this issue? What should in order to fix that?
Thanks in advance!
Bumping. Any idea? :/
Here is another screenshot showing the battery is being discharged with ~2000mAh
