When I try to install any large apps (i.e. games) I run into the following issue with both a stock phone and using unl3ash3d ROM.
It downloads fine, begins installing, goes for a bit and then says "error: insufficient storage."
Can anyone help?

I have the same issue every once in a while. I have no idea why so no help there but just so you know if you try again it will most likely work I haven't had one completely fail yet after a try or two it always works.

Wow, you are right! Thanks for that.

I have the same problem... often.
I think this handset will be great with a maintenance update. Still kinda rough around the edges.
I have seen the same thing and not just for large apps. Seems to do it for any sized app. You just have to try to reinstall and it will eventually work.
Yea I had the same problem happen to me once. I wasn't even installing a market app, it was just restoring from Titanium backup, but tried it again after and worked just fine.
I've had this problem with my rooted OG Droid running CM7, and trying again usually worked.
Maybe it's a bug in gingerbread?
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.
Well, my grandfather warned me about jumping to conclusions. He always used to say, "just because lunch comes after breakfast every day, does not mean that lunch is caused by breakfast". With that firmly in mind I present the following: I had gotten the insufficient storage and subsequent failure of apps to install a couple of time. As I was looking at storage areas, I found that I had a few apps mysteriously installed in the "Media Area". I moved those to the "Phone" and I've not had the insufficient storage issue since. Take with at least one grain of salt.
It happened to me quite a bit for awhile but hasn't happened once since I'm on Unleashed.. Dunno if that is the reason why or not.

same here, but on different OGD ROMs too. definitely not just a Bionic issue -- wish i had an answer for ya tho
Same thing happens to me. I have found that when I keep the market page open (if purchasing from the market), then it typically installs correctly. If I let it background download, then I get that error.

I have been noticing a weird thing with my Droid 3. I love the phone. I haven't had any issues. I do get this annoying green screen effect during transitions. It only seems to happen if I have Netflix or Youtube running in the background. I can fix the problem by going into my settings and turning off my screen animations. I am in the process of getting it exchanged. I will let you know if it is just a fluke or maybe a possible issue with the phone software.
Is this happening to anyone out there with a Droid 3?
video coming soon. Still uploading
I have the same problem between screen changes

My wifes did that too, but she was using just texts. I turned off animations and to save battery, and noticed it hadn't come back yet. Thought maybe I was only one
Edit: she says it still does it...hmmm dunno...hope it gets fixed in next update

tried to replicate the problem on mine, but didn't have any issues. Hmm.
Green is usually an overlay color when drawing from a framebuffer. This just means something is forcing screen output before the frame is fully drawn. It's an out-of-sync drawing issue somewhere in the software or driver and isn't a hardware problem. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it happens so often that it annoys you. It's not hurting anything.
I've seen this as well with youtube...I've also seen it show a partial view of my homescreen while transitioning between menus....not a big deal, but hopefully it'll get fixed soon

Happened to my wifes and my phone today. Kept going to green screen when trying to open the camara app. Had to reboot to make it go away. Im also on my third droid 3 phone. First one scratched the paint finish next to the keyboard when sliding open. The second droid 3 the speaker sounded like it was shorting out when calling or talking to someone.

Have you tried rebooting the phone, instead of getting it replaced? A reboot can work wonders.

wife's phone did this while in camera mode. looked lik she was peering into the matrix. rebuffer or not, it's an obvious software glitch. i factory reset her phone so that vzw would log the activation.

Yeah, a stuck app that is unable to redraw will do the same thing but instead of a flash it's a permanent green-screen until the app is force closed or the phone is rebooted. I've had the camera do this to me a few times and Motorola has already come forward saying the camera app has problems, including this one, that they're working on.
i could live with an occasional software glitch if everythign wasn't so dammed slow. i've yet to see this phone actually perform a function faster than my D2. the software overhead is unbelievable.

Well we could be in luck, it looks like root on the D3 could very likely happen sometime this week. 2.3.4 has been successfully rooted with the phone already on 2.3.4 and the bootloader still locked. We have P3 all over it now, too.

@pplude that made my day.
I have the same problem, i get the screen flicker going between handecent and my homescreen running prolauncher. i've had my droid 3 for a couple weeks and after rooting and freezing all that junk, I'm quite happy with the phone. other than this weird green pixel matrix screen... thing..
Not a huge issue, just a lil annoying.
TopHat
I had the green screen issue. I uninstalled youtube updates and haven't seen it since, same thing on my girls d3 hope it helps
So my husband got the market update on his D3 the day he got it but I haven't gotten a market update yet... Is there something I have to do, or do I just have to wait for it to update on its own?

Go to settings, applications, find market force close and clear cache
Sent from my DROID3 using XDA App
What version of the market does everyone have .. I have 2.3.6
Its a rollout update. That happened with me and the wifes. She got the new market and mine took few days to show up....clearing cache and data did nothing for me to get update sooner.

Yeah I still haven't gotten the new market, and I am getting antsy. I am the android nut and my husband could care less... and he always gets better phones than me. His Eris could be overclocked much higher than mine, his incredible had an AMOLED screen and mine was a stupid SLCD that gave me hell when rooting, and now his D3 is better than mine. I want to call to get a replacement. Mine has a dead pixel already.

Just got the new update, and I can't really see what everyone is excited about. It seems slower, I have ads I can't get rid of (Movies, books and other stuff I don't care about), and it doesn't seem to show all my installed apps under My Apps. It seems like more eye candy, but seems to be even worse to get around then the old one.
I got tired of waiting for it, so I did a search and found the apk onlike, downloaded and boom, there it is. And I don't care for it much, either.

Yeah it's crazy slow for me
Annoying Failures
I don't know if this is a problem with the new Market app or with my Droid 3, since both arrived simultaneously, but I am getting increasingly annoyed with the frequency of app install failures attributed to "Insufficient storage available" (when there is vast storage sitting there waiting to be filled) and "Package file is invalid" errors.
Usually, I just his update a 2nd or 3rd time and it will load, but I don't recall having nearly this many invalid update error messages with my OG Droid (when it said insufficient storage space, it was true).
Does anyone know, is this App Market issue, Droid 3 Issue, or specific to my phone??
I'm itching to install it but I'd like to hear from some people who have used it first.
I'd advise against it.
No need, since no weak memory allocation and management like the DX2.
I did it worked had to get correct busybox version couldn't tell if anything really happened but why the avoid krazy?

Have you rebooted your device? If not give that a go, and tell me how it works out for you.
I didn’t' even execute any options with the script and it cause me to bootloop once I rebooted, and someone else experienced the same.
I did bootlooped factory rest got my stuff back re-supercharged and works fine I even did a reboot after 30mins and still worked

I figured as much, but I am getting a pretty decent amount of lag, even after fully removing bloatware (about 32 apps total). I don't see how people are claiming 200mb free. Even after bloatware removal, I still only have 80-130 free at any given time, and I personally hate using an app-killer.
Don't get me wrong, I do know that Android will try and use up any memory that is free and that having a low number of RAM available isn't a bad thing. But, as I stated earlier, I am experiencing a good amount of lag from time to time (mainly due to my widgets I would assume).
I did a factory reset and a battery pull 2 days ago, and the boot-up process is twice as fast now...just as it was when I first bought the phone. But the lag is still present, and the REDRAWING is driving me absolutely insane.

Yeah. That was me. I did run the script though. It didn't even get past the Droid part of the boot animation. A factory reset will fix it, and you'll still have root after.

not true; v6 is for all android OS released so far. It was specifically developed for Gingerbread, but works well on Froyo also.
BUT: There are still conflicting reports that changes it makes in the /system folder may cause problems with the D3, so until an .sbf is available, i'd proceed with great caution doing ANYTHING to the D3 that is not entirely in userspace.
I removed most of the bloat I was comfortable pulling off... but I must say the biggest jump in responsiveness has been from tweaking the build.prop to increase the events per second (I'm at 120) and VM memory (64m).
Please, err on the side of caution right now as we have no sbf, no clockwork recovery. I had to sbf my D2 enough times playing with things I didn't think had a chance of breaking it, that did, that I'm very careful what I poke at on my daily driver, and urge you to as well
I thought that by rooting and putting a new ROM on my phone that it'd help out my problems of it rebooting randomly and having a non responsive internet 50% of the time but it hasn't. Anyone else having these problems with their Thrills? About to go back to the iPhone even though i really don't want to
I have occasional reboots, but not often. I know mine is more tinkering with my kernel.
i only had mine reboot once only cuz i killed gta3 the rong way and it crashed
yeah mine does it any time that it has to think about something... i go to post something on facebook and about half the time it freezes and then reboots. I think i've pulled the battery out a couple dozen times this last week because of it just stopping on me

There is no wrong way to close an App/Game.
It's the developer of the app that causes the problem.
ok now i'm finally getting it to where it's saying different apps (mostly clockworkmod) are failing and to either force close or cancel...
Well I jumped out of gta3 with the home button and tryed to go in app manager to close it and probly ran out of ram and crashed instead of backing out of gta3 with the game menu

I just wish Android OS suspended everything when you push the home button and had push notifications instead of persistent checking. All this background running is killing our batteries and causing lockups.
Ya I know I wounding if you could put it in a rom or kernal

True multitasking has been built into Android (similar to Linux, which it is based) from day one. Here to say it, but that would be a longshot. Best bet would be to become more scrupulous on what apps you download and more critical of the makers when their programs go rogue. Plus turning background data off in settings can help. Fyi.
Note: I don't want you to feel as if I'm being overly critical or a douche here, just realistic with what we have and what we are dealing with.

I hear ya, I know its wishful thinking. I just wish android was as efficient as iOS. Android having Backgrounding from the start was a big perk, but I gotta hand to apple for seeing how inefficient it was and hold off until they found a better solution. Android needs to grab the bull by the horns and convert to that solution.

Background data allows you to receive emails and your apps to update periodically while your not using your phone. This is the basis of 99% of your notifications. It's kinda the point of having a smart phone in the first place.

Im on 5.5.886 and i keep getting an error when trying to use the OTA. I've been reading around but having a hard time finding what i need to do. I'm getting similar problems as others, but it says something about preinstall/apps/zumocast being the cause for the update to fail.
I've tried putting zumocast in that directory but it still didn't work (maybe because i didn't use the stock zumocast but the one from the market.
I've already done the r3l3ased and forever root and got back to stock. The stock that gave me didn't have zumocast.
I'm not new to rooting, but unfortunately our community isn't as organized as some of the Androids i have had in the past. It probably doesn't help that i only access the site from the xda app and not on a computer.
If you need to know what I've installed, i installed liberty rom, webtop without a dock, bootstrap/safestrap, and any other rom that i had installed was on safe mode with safe strap.

I'm thinking path saver may be my solution but not sure yet. Worst case scenario is that my bionic has had an issue of the screen going off on me randomly and the phone shutting off on me since the day i bought it and i can use my warranty (had the issues before i rooted so i know its not something i did, i just accepted that every android has some issues and lived with it)

Path Saver solved my problem. If anyone needs to know where to find it (considering they didn't put it up in the Droid Bionic Section), here is a link to the thread.
