Ok guys, I am completely sick of the Galaxy S i9000 battery drain. I dont know if its due to the Rom im on, but the battery is ridiculous. I am begging if there is someone here to help me so I dont have to buy a new phone.
Currently, I am on a rooted Galaxy S, on DarkyROM JVQ v10.2.1. My Kernel is DarkCore v2.9.3, and baseband is JVQ. Im not sure if the ROM is the problem, but from what i've read its fine.
Regarding use, I charge the phone over night, wake up in the morning, take it of the charger, immediately it drops to around 90-95%. Up to lunch time, where I have only spoken on the phone for about maximum 10 minutes, sent around 20 texts, and absolutely nothing else, my battery drops to around 50-60%. By the way this is with background data disabled!!
Up to around 5-6 o-clock my battery is at 10%. As you guys can understand, I have to carry my charger or usb cable, everywhere!
I have one more new original battery in my disposal, as well as 2 other bigger capacity ones, of which one is 2430 mah, and the other one is 3500 mah.
I am prepared to change rom, recalibrate the battery or whatever. I will sacrifice speed for battery.
Thanks, Demetris
I would start looking at your applications and signal strength. A weak signal will force the phone to use more power. Any widgets or live wallpapers? Skype? What happens if you kill all running apps and just leave the phone on standby. Does it sleep? What does the battery history show?
I think your battery stats are messed. To fix them :
Firstly fully charge your phone ubtil it shows 100% ( assuming your battery stats are messed leave it on 100% and charging for 5-10 more minutes) then switch of your phone and let it charge for another 5 minutes.
Then through cwm ( recovery mode) delete your battery stats.( advanced---clear battery stats ). Then switch on your phone and let it drain and dont charge it until it switches off automatically. This will fix your battery stats perfectly .
hit thankxx if i helped. sent from my mind through telepathy (ya its possible)!
Try to install apps like system panel to monitor cpu usage by each app
Use a battery calibration
i've also had battery drains with darky's rom. not sure if it's my settings but since i moved to simplicity rom, i haven't had any more issues. if anything, i prefer this rom over darky's. give it a try.
Here is a complete guide to battery calibration.

So, I've been getting what I consider poor battery life on my Captivate. This morning seems especially bad. Currently, my phone shows 2 hours 8 minutes unplugged, and I'm at 37% battery. Battery use shows 99% display, and nothing else. My screen is on auto brightness. Wifi, Bluetooth, and GPS are off. I'm connected to 1900 band HSPA.
My phone came off the charger after an overnight charge at 97%. I took note of when the battery hit 47%. This was after 1 hour 24 minutes of display use. Is this anywhere near normal battery life?
Other things: Spare Parts reports my battery condition as "good". I'm running Perception 10.2, SpeedMod K13C, KP1 modem. I've bump charged a couple times since my last kernel flash. Most recently I bump charged without deleting batterystats.bin, but I haven't been able to discern a difference, good or bad.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
It need not necessarily be a battery issue. After u reset battery, give it atleast a couple days before u start measuring battery usage.
1. Try putting the phone on min brightness and take of auto-brightness n see how it goes.
2. Try connecting to 850 bank. Lower frequency is supposed to be less power consuming.
3. If u r not an avid data user, and use it for casual mails n chats, u cud try switching to EDGE. Same applies if u r living in an area with not so good 3G/H coverage.
4. Check the ROM & kernel u r using. Some combos yield good results, while some don't. I am di11i's 6.0 and xcal's 2.3.2. I get like 2 hours display time and 1 hour talk time with ~16 hours standy before I hit 40% battery. But then, what works on mine may not work on urs. But it would be worth giving a try to see if that helps.
thats about what was happening to me when i was running all stock. i've done a lot of flashing and come up with the best combo for me. SuperNova JS5, SpeedMod Kernel K13C, ZNKP1 Modem. I get between 25-38 hours of battery life easily. i use my phone non-stop too.
get rid of all task killers, antivirus, and voltage control app, your battery should tripple
just my 2 cents here. this works for me hopes it works for you also. go into recovery mode in your cwm settings wife davlik cache and battery stats and reboot your phone. I assume your already flashing custom rom in your phone so you already know what I mean. and also follow what others suggest...
I recently installed Serendipity and made sure the battery was at 100% while doing so (and deleted the battery file). I'm waiting for the battery to drain before I plug it in. Am i supposed to let it charge all the way again? Also, is it safe to reboot the phone while it is draining the first time? I want to install something using clockwork.
I'm being careful about this because cognition would report 14% battery life after 33 minutes of display usage and display eating up 96% of my battery....

There's a complete thread on this, I suggest you look it up.
After you reset your battery stats, it is suggested to do a few full battery circle (use til dead, full charge, rince and repeat). You should be fine after 2-3 circles.
Note tho that it will not improve your battery life. All it does is a attempt to tell your phone what % your battery life is exactly.
For your fast drain, I don't think it has anything to do with your battery calibration or your ROM. It's most likely a app (or a few) that are draining alot of juice or that are running w/o realy being needed. (Check your running services.. make sure you know which one to stop and not to***)
Also using a app/widget like advanced task killer can help your battery life as it will stop every app running with a simple touch. I suggest doing it anything you're not using your phone.
One last thing, display eating 96% of your battery is normal.. it's not telling you it's using 96% of your battery. It's telling you that during the time your phone as been unplugged, your display use was your main action.. probably cause you didn't make many calls or anything else.. Display is just about everything you do with your phone so it will always have some high numbers like that.

Yeah, I've seen the thread before but forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me. And my point about the display was that it was on for such a short amount of time, yet still killing my battery.
I am now down to 30% or so after 3 hours or more of display time after calibration & rom switch- and I was streaming music through WiFi and using Bluetooth headphones. So it it seems like it made a huge difference =D
Thanks
I am experiencing an extreme battery drain with ALL the roms i tried.
The battery lasts maximally 5h, with 20-40mins of 3g browsing.
Currently at 38%, display max brightness, 2h 12mins usage,78% in battery use / Opera Mobile usage 22 m
ins, 9% in battery use.
13h since last recharge (i went to sleep).
Also my battery magically charges itself while on standby, up to 4% per hour.
Im pretty sure my battery is calibrated, even if it isnt it would give me the same power.
Also it heats up to 59c (even when i wasnt on 1.2GHz kernel)
I think u need a new batt. Same thing was happening with the iphone and untill i've replaced the bat the same thing happened.
.
Thought so.
Will flash stock 2.3.5 or should i flash 2.3.3, which is the latest official for my network?
I think it doesnt matter...
Well the guys in the service are a$$es so it will take them about 2 weeks for it...
i'm not sure tere is such thing as stock 2.3.5 and i think only MIUI has this. Last is 2.3.4 but i might be wrong.
There is xxjvs that is a 2.3.5 firmware
No your battery isnt wrecked neither magic took place its just that ypur battery stats are messed up!
Fixing them-fully recharge your battery until it shows 100% then switch your phone off and then let it charge for another 1 minute then go to recovery mode( you have cwm recovery right?) Then go to advamced then delete battery stats from their and reboot your phone ! Then for best result ypu can fully drain your battery to nil unt it switches off! Your battery stats should be now fully fixed ! Dont worry for deleting battery stats system will make them again in a few minutes or on a reboot !

I'm not sure if this is a common problem or not but lately I've noticed that when I unplug my phone after it says 100% charged, it immediately drops to a lower number. At first it would stay between 97 and 99, but i have seen it go as low as 45. I've tried several things like not installing the ROM until it is fully charged, calibrating the battery, and a few others but nothing fixes it. Is it possible it's just a kernel glitch or hardware issue?
Darky's 10.2.2 DarkCore 4.1 KG3 modem
Thanks in advance all!

Its not a problem its a feature. The phone will stop charging when the battery gets to a certain temperature. So it will say 100% but it can go as low as 90%. I have no idea why your battery goes down to 45%...thats not normal. Try wiping battery stats from recovery or reinstall your rom.
I've had a similar situation. It helped to fully drain the battery until the phone shuts off.
Wait a while, then restart the phone without plugging in the charger. There should be enough charge to load the ROM.
Then plug in the charger and charge to a full charge.
If you are calibrating the battery, wipe the battery stats only after a full charge, and then be sure to run the battery down all the way before recharging.
2-3 cycles helps.
It's strange because the charge is shown accurately when the phone is off and plugged in. Like if it says 100% while the phone is on and I shut the phone off without removing the charger, it will show the actual amount the battery is charged on the battery meter. it's as if the kernel is having a problem reading the current battery state.
Thank you both for the advice though. I was very careful to install the rom with a full charge this time..or the base anyway..

It doesn't matter what the battery is at when you flash, the "flash at 100" rule is just a precaution to make sure your battery doesn't die mid flash. I flash as low as 20%
That is a well known bug with gingerbread...yes the feature stops charging at 100 and us let drain to 95 and then starts charging again, the bug is that it Bebe starts charging again at 95 it continues to drain, so even though it says charged as Dijon as you unplug it drops to the actual percentage.
it's really random, and not everyone sees it, and those who do can't replicate it consistently, thus no solid fix has been found.
Some have said turning wifi off while charging helps, some say turning it on...
Well that's a relief. You just saved me the tedious task of fully
Charging my phone before flashing back to froyo. Darky's 9.5 seemed a lot easier for daily operations than the reoriented gingerbread roms. I had to remap my softkeys for starters, and was having a lot of force close issues with apps I used a lot, the battery problem was just the most recent headache.
Thanks for all the help. Hopefully I'll have time to start learning development instead of wasting my time fixing my phone.

Anyone ever heard of this? What the hell is that about?
Thanks
Happened to me all the time.

Has happened to me many times on both phones. I'm guessing battery calibration goes bad and when reboot it tries to adjust. Also note that when this happens, battery will slowly recover as if the phone is charging. Say it dropped to 10%, leave the phone aside after the reboot, battery will increase to somewhere around 20%. I've had this problem on the stock ROMs of both Note and the SGS II. Hope this helps.

Try calibrate your battery by letting it blackout then take out your battery for two minutes then put it back again, dont reboot yet, let it charge to full, then go directly to CWMR and wipe battery stat and reboot.

same here, happened to me a few times.
Does battery calib really work or its all a myth??
I don't know to consider this a bug, or what.
But.. battery calibration won't help. I've tried.
On my device, it happened :
*) when my device got very hot (when use certain kernel), I reboot, then voila.... the battery drop around 20-30%.
At first I said WTF... then I faster charge (because at that time, after drop, my battery left only 1%)
The next time happened, I was on the road, and can't charge my handphone. So I just leave it there, laid in my bag.
Surprisingly, after some times, the battery start to increase again, though it's not coming back to the same percentage as before it drop.
So is it a bug ? Perhaps... but only happened when your device got very hot.
And when your device is very hot (under certain kernel), and you never reboot / switch off first, you will see that the battery flow like water.
But when you switch off, let it cool, then boot up again, the battery will stagnant at the same percentage when you switch off. Go up and go down at the same percentage for minutes to 1 hour+.
So you want to consider this is a bug ? perhaps, but.... not everytime happen. So long as you are on the correct kernel that suit your device.
:victory:
Huge drain may affect the stats.
The percentage is calculated based on the voltage of the battery. On heavy drain the voltage may drop unpredictably (for the ROM). Also, the temperature will affect the voltage (thus percentage).
With my phone if happened only once, the night after update to LRQ so I assume this is connected to battery stats.
But also, certain ROMs can affect this behavior.
