Personally, I think CyanogenMod 7 for SGS is much smoother when you scroll things. But animation and speed is the same.
if you looking froyo version then it is darky or simple galaxy or ultimate rom but u must also do a combo with kernels like damiangto or speedmode or others...just do a test and u will se what is your perfect combo and desire u want =)
thanks ill try those roms and see which is quicker
but can i put a different kernel on custom roms cos i tried a kernel for overclocking on darky and it kept freezing
Ahola!
I can personally recommend insanity 0.6.6 with gto 1.1 gold kernel. its fast and responsive as hell. Try to keep it as minimalistic as possible to keep you speed. Get a 2000+ quadrant every time and with ext2 flat and some tweaks you can get near the 2500 without oc Going to flash ultimate with gto 1.1 gold today. Will keep you updated!
Thanks will wait for your updatee

i flashed insanity 0.6.6 with 1.1 gold kernel and i only got 1472 in quadrants
can u tell what i should change in recovery mode so that i can make it quicker, im a noob so can u do a step by step??
just flashed juwe's 1.5 smart edition rom, man its good, i think its the first rom smoother than darkys without OC kernel...

Change filesystem to ext2 with ext2 loops for the best performance. You can also do without loops or ext4 with ext2 loops. Not that this will make you lose data when you do a battery pull. For me performance is more important then safety, never had any trouble but be aware.
Check this link for more info on the system:

Im on simply galaxy now and for me it looks better than insanity and is just as fast. (Note that I stripped away almost 100 mb and replaced some of insanity's work)
Still on Damian's kernel and its fast with underclock (800mhz) and undervolt (-100), have 2 full days battery now!
Also quadrant doesn't say anything. With the right tweaks you get a 3000+ score but actual performance is different. Just try some things see how scrolling, navigating, opening a lot of apps and games run. (run n64oid games or dungeon defenders, this will require a lot from your phone)
In the end its all about preferences but there are some huge differences. I was on darky untill 2 months ago. Soon CM7 and Miui will be awesome, check their process in a few weeks
yea its true, i used to get quadrant score of 1800+ with OCLF but things kept force closing, crashing a lot, the quadrant score may show u the computing speed but in terms of multi-tasking and real-time phone functioning i use Darky 9.3 and its very smooth and responsive, better than stock definitely (as well as OCLF)

I have some question:
I'm noob at using lagfix tweak in some kernel, I used to change to ext4, is it ok?
which kernel that I can choose ext2?
Can u show me the way to tweak insanity?
Is Tegrak kernel better?
Quadrant scores doesn't really matter.I get only 1000 with darky's 10 RC3, but it's ultra smooth ad lagfree.

Yeah man but it will be better with a higher both quadrant and real perfomance
I still wonder how to get near 2500 points with ext2 and some tweaks? I need your instructions.

I tried MIUI and CM7 but due to camera and FM player was not good so I still looking for Froyo
Ginger ROMS cannot modified like Froyo Mod Kernels.
Hi all on xda i'm wanting to improve my galaxy s i9000 speed, at the moment my phone runs at abt 960-1000 on quadrant standered which i know is rubbish, my galaxy s is on a stock rom & kernel (firmware 2.3.3, build number GINGERBREAD.XWJVH, kernel 2.6.35.7-i9000XWJVH-CL184813 [email protected] #2) updated using kies, I used to have it rooted but unrooted it don't know why what r my options regarding getting better results on quadrant any help on this topic would be much appreciated.
Thank you
John
install a custom rom,
if u want good battery, decent speed then install Darkys Rom,
if u want PURE speed (with stock android, without the touchwiz ui) then install CyanogenMod7
or just go over to the development section and experiment around with the Roms,
MAKE SURE THAT B4 U INSTALL A ROM, U ARE ROOTED BY INSTALLING A GINGERBREAD KERNEL THORUGH ODIN, AND THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO GET OUT OF A SITUATION IF U HAPPEN TO BRICK YOUR PHONE (LIKELY, BUT EASY TO FIX ) however, if u do anything to your phone and u dnt know how to fix it, im not responsible, ill try 2 help but wnt guarantee anythink
if i helped, be sure to click the "thanks" button
Forget quadrant, just a random number generator. High score in quadrant has value when you wanna show off, and at the same time let others know you really don't know.
I'm still going on XWJVH, happy user of rooted Semaphore kernel 1.8.2.
The included Semaphore app gives you access to a lot of tweaks, Voodoo color/sound and a smooth operating phone.
The latest leaked ROMs (XXJVS, XXJVT) still has bugs: phone FC, WIFI disconnect. If you feel brave and wanna try one of these ROMs, make sure to read what's fixed in their OP and latest posts for experience of users.

Try ThunderBolt! in my sig. Be sure to read the requirements and meet them before flashing
Stock jvt
or faaryabs f1 rom v13 that hopefully will be released today if you want more features.
talon or semaphore as kernel.
And thunderbolt tweaks.

delete unnecessary apps
root and delete unneccesary apps.
Flash stock JVT and Semaphore, then convert to EXT4.
my WiFi works fine, and for the Phone FC, just flash the JVT Phone Fix.
For me this is the best stock ROM that I've tried. Fast and stable, the browser has improved a lot.

use sgs chlorine, can remove all the stock apps in seconds
Sent using TCP/IP
Root and install a Cooked rom, anyone will do better than the stock one.
And forget Quadrant, it's rubbish.
+1 on Pikachu01 Thunderbolt script. Running very much smoother on my SGS.
Mitra Rom is faster then other and use lagfix
small tip

If you use JVT with JVK modem the phone will operate amazingly, no phone fc, no wifi disconnect, great battery life + performance.
Good luck!
try miui mintberry
My advice would be first flash a few custom roms+kernels and see how that works for you.
If that isn't fast or smooth enough you could try tweaks like thunderbolt!
Sent from my GT-I9000
MIUI mint berry and via rom toolbox clocked into 1,3ghz
I´m on JVZ with Semaphore 2.1.1 and overclocked CPU (1300 mhz). This motor is fast, stable and smooth.
Hey!
2.3.6 is very good!
you should test at the beginn of your "Flash carrier" a few Roms + Kernels.

Look, if you want a rom that supports custom themes, mods and other tweaks, then go for stock JVT or some custom rom. But it is undeniable that gingerbread will always lag slightly on the galaxy s due to low ram. Heck, it even lacks on the nexus s.
In reality, if you want a lag-free (and I really mean LAG-FREE) rom, you should go for Froyo 2.2.1 roms. Froyo roms were meant for 512mb of ram, and they work flawlessly on the galaxy s. ZSJPK 2.2.1 never lagged on my SGS.
And just to be clear, ram is indeed the limiting factor to smoothness on our phone. On Gingerbread, free ram is less than 100mb after a day's usage, and so the phone has to constantly close and reopen background processes while you're using it. If I'm not mistaken, the default kernels begin to close apps and processes once ram drops below 64mb. Eg: Free ram is 100mb. You open the browser which uses 20mb, and then when you load facebook which uses another 20mb, the free ram has dropped below 60, so while processing the webpage, the cpu has to simultaneously close background processes. Then when you leave fb, the cpu reopens those processes. Hence, the phone lags.
But on Froyo, there's up to 180mb of ram on boot, and somehow ram consumption after prolonged use is not that high, so it can last for days with over 120mb of ram and hence never lags.
In conclusion, the only viable solution to lag that I have experienced so far is by using froyo 2.2.1 roms, especially the later builds like ZSJPK or the other one which name I cannot remember. Things like voodoo lagfixes don't really help (unless you're on eclair) and custom rom tweaks are really just placebo effects actually.

Wrong thread. Also there is tonnes of information a single google search away on how to root your phone. One way is to download Odin and then flash a rooted kernal such as CF-Root onto the phone from Download mode.
Which ROM do you guys recommend for me?
I want to get a fast and rock solid ROM with original Touchwizz UI and it should work flawless in Germany.
Is there anything i should look at, for example the Modem-Version?
I'm new to flashing and I don't know what all this names like "XXJVT" means
So what ROM should I use to get the above said features?
Thank you very much
- Jahai
Modem version affects your signal and reception quality. You don't have to worry about the modem in the rom because you can flash a modem separately afterwards if you're unhappy with the one in the rom.
Roms are named with a general nomenclature of XXJ__, where the XX can be anything, depending on your region while the first _ usually represents the major version of android. For example, XXJP_ is froyo while XXJV_ is gingerbread. The second _ represents the minor versions. For example, XXJVR is gingerbread 2.3.4 while XXJVT is gingerbread 2.3.5. Currently, XXJVU-value-pack is the latest official rom.
If you want the original TouchWiz and you want the rom to be really stable and fast, then I would recommend that you use ZSJPK froyo 2.2.1. Despite being not as new as gingerbread, ZSJPK was one of the final releases of froyo, which makes it extremely stable, and being on froyo, the ram consumption is low, so there are very few lags.
Gingerbread stock roms cannot match the performance of ZSJPK, but certain custom roms have better ram management, for example the GamingRom by Burakgon, but you will lose the touchwiz launcher.
Also, if you want to use gingerbread, you should flash the Semaphore BigMem kernel for extra ram to reduce lags.

hmm but this doenst have the touchwizz ui and i really like it :/
I can recommend you to find some "native" ROMs. Native - I mean - made by your local developers. I am from Russia and commonly mods that had made by russian developers have a better localization and based on country-specific firmwares
Take a look at Simplicity ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203047).
It's the one I use, it's really fast and stable, you can always change the UI if you don't like it by installing themes or just downloading apps like Go Launcher or ADW Launcher.

If you want Gingerbread with TW, I would recommend that you download Burakgon's Gaming rom which has massive amounts of free ram and then download touchwiz launcher 3 or touchwiz launcher 4.5.
I use simplicity rom since several month. Newest version is 2.1.1 which uses modem jvu, has TW3 and a lot of nice features like over-/underclocking and better sound and graphicdrivers (Voodoo). It is optimized for speed and also for low battery consumption.
You should give it a try.
Start with a new stock rom from sammobile, root it with the kernel from semaphore and update it from CWM to simplicity.
You should try GoAtrip. It has a great batterylife and its really fast.
Sent from my GT-I9000 from Germany
Gingerreal is a great rom in terms of stability, extraordinary is also a nice rom stable and nice looking.
But i would try all the roms u like and stick with the one u like best,
you can try different roms, kernels and modems and see what works the best for you.
Have fun flashing!
Hi. I have a question. I have an Samsung Galaxy S with 2.3.6 XXJVU and I obtain 1300 score in Quadrant
1)Lag Fix for 2.3.6 are released,if yes , give me please
2)Its any possibility to obtain high score than my score on 2.3.6 ?
Thank You!
do you know what lag fix is?
any lag fix should work.
just find newest one you see should work. all it is is formatting your phone storage from rfs to ext4 or something else.
quadrent scores dont count much for some people. but if you want to improve try new kernal, scripts, or a whole new rom. look in the dev section. new roms get over 1300 + easy. ive seen 2000+ with a good rom and kernal and some overclocking
try to flash to custom kernel like semaphore...and flash the pikachu thunderbolt tweak as well. you can feel the different.
whats the best custom kernel & GB rom for the note?
does anyone know how many there are/names etc? id like a set thats lightweight and overclocked?
any help would be awesome. cheers

It's mainly up to you and your opinion what is better or not. I almost was fixing to say CM9, but read closely that you said GB roms. I'm not running GB anymore so I don't really know much about all the new versions of the GB ROMs out now. It is safe on GB so just try out different ROMs until you find one you like.
The franco kernel for GB is not supported anymore because he is on ICS now so that stinks that you lost at least one GB kernel that I used to use and can say is very good on GB. Speedmod kernel is pretty good though.
Well, best is relative to experience. I was on LC1 with speedmod k2-12 and it served my purpose.
Sent from my GT-P1010 using XDA
Well, i dont think there have a ROM that can name it as the best
Becoz all ROM are create for difference favour people
Example for me,i looking for a ROM with better battery life
And if for GB i prefer get Rocket ROM
So far , i use is ok for me ,only have a small bug with the kernal
Sometime will get SoD (Sleep of Time) but not long ,just around 20sec?
Other then that ,it is nice for me, especially battery life,it is quite a big improve
So if you asking my suggestion , i would prefer for Rocket rom
thankd for the info guys. rocket rom looks good. they type of rom/kernal id like is a light rom /w touchwiz no bloatware, fast, tweaked, good battery etc etc and kernal overclocked and fast also.
stock ROM maybe
For confused sorts and for those who want full functionality,I would recommend the stock ROM. If your much into tech info and can handle the tweaks then go for a custom ROM of your flavour.
I'm using KingDroid ICS NoteMania Edition v1.6 / franko.kernel for ICS r3, very smooth and stable with one *very annoying* bug, I can't change the lock screen's wallpaper.
I was running lp4 base-band, with Franco kernel on Checkrom...Quite decent, I would say.
