Hi,
The stock music player stops (actually pauses the music) randomly on my Samsung SGS, usually after around 30 mins of playback. Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I'm running 2.2.1 XXJPY on an unlocked 8GB SGS.
I certainly didnt have this issue. Are you using the headphones for listening to music?
Maybe, IMO, the headphones are loose and it is coming out. whenever you pluck out the headphones from the phone, the music pauses.
The headphones appear to be attached quite securely and most of my listening is done at work sitting at a desk. I'll try a different set of headphones though and see if they make a difference.

I am getting this as well even without headphones plugged in. Seems to be random - it can happen within 5 minutes, or it can play for hours without stopping.
This also happens to me, same with Power Amp, Music Mod, and the stock player. It just randomly stops playing every so often, it's very annoying.
I only listen through headphones and I have seen other threads that suggest it is something to do with the contact on the headphones but they are always securely fit in, and it happens on my brother's phone as well.
Most likely it has to do with the contacts.
Try to twiggle the plug a bit while listening to something. If music stops it's the plug.
I experience this issue with PowerAMP and the plug for my car stereo, when i just rotate it completely plugged in.
Anyone have anything else to offer on this? I know it's not a headphone connection issue as it happens when using bluetooth in the car as well. It happens with Poweramp, Listen and Audible so I guess it must be something to do with it killing the apps or something? It drives me mad!
I was experiencing this issue a year and a half ago when I owned an HTC legend. It happened then on stock rom and also CM6.
I've owned my SGS for about 8 months now and have experienced this bug on every rom I've tried (froyo, KC1, KG3, now CM7).
I've looked at the log files when this happens and it simply says something to the effect of "cannot read from source" or "premature end of file." (I can't remember exactly). Strange thing is, the music is only paused, I can hit play and resume right where it stopped, so there is obviously no issues with reading the file. It also happens when I'm listening to podcasts in google listen.
I've learned to live with it.
Also about the headphones, I use the external speaker when rocking my baby daughter to sleep sometimes and it happens then too.
thanks for sharing: I get this periodically and wasn't sure what was causing it
Have you tried fixing permissions?

I have the same issue, any luck with a solution?
Does anyone else have this issue? It's very annoying, I would be trying to listen to a song and all of a sudden the track will skip around a little bit. I know it isn't the file because it plays perfectly on my PC. I have this problem with any music player too not just the stock one.

i'd first try copying everything of value off of the SD, and formatting. I would then copy your music back on...not the ones that were already on there...a fresh copy. need to tighten up that SD
I'm using the internal SD for music. Do you still recommend formatting?
Btw thanks for the response.

I actually experience this on Pandora too.

Are you using headphones? The headphone jack can sometimes be a pain to get a pair of headphone into. (If it moves while not in all the way it can sometimes pause). Does it have the same problem with the speaker on the phone?

Same for me, haven't tried with just the speaker. And its not the headphones pulling out, cause it cuts in and out some, then stops. All I have to do is hit play again.

Yeah, that can happen if the headphones aren't in as far as they can be.

This issue of the headphone jacks was discussed in an early thread last fall. I, and others, found that the jack may not go all the way in. As a result, I was getting only one channel. A little extra push seated the jack properly for full sound. Different people reported different experiences, depending on the headphone or earbud brands they had.
Edit: I ran the HTC music player, a streaming music app, and the FM radio for several songs each, and I had no cutting out or loss of music. My Vivid is ICS, stock, no unlock or root.

I don't have any issues either... might be some app in the background? I listen music (from sd card and Internet radio) every day in my car for about 50 minutes a day...

Every ROM I've flashed, since root, has done this. I have to go back to my music player, force close it, re open, and it plays fine for about another hour. Pandora, Slacker, rocket player, Google play, and tune-in. Same results. Now on Miui v5, same results.....???

Actually in 4.1.X roms, its where the music is, I moved my music to my internal sd card and I dont have that problem anymore. For some reason, even the file managers, like astro file managers or the stock cm one, mix the two.
I have this problem too, it just freezes, then starts about a second later. Using Google Play Music.
I also have no issues.
I am on the stock Bell Canada ICS ROM and use WinAmp. My music & video is on the external SD card.
I have had my htc for over 2 weeks now and iv realised that from time to time when using headphones or aux then music player either skips the song when playing/jitters and also just pauses it self so i have to press play then it stops again!
This is with the stock android music, htc music player, poweramp also deezer so its not just one app.
Anyone else with this problem? or solution? thanks
(just thought id mention i have a bit of overhang and the gaps)

Wow htc still has this problem? I am a bit surprised.. Well download headset blocker from the market. That should do the trick

I listen to music every day with stock player and other players. No such problems with my unit. Did you try different headphones? Inserted all the way in?
Seems like a headphone jack issue. The jitters, random pauses & song skips I experienced all of them when I used a cheap headphone on my old HTC device. replaced it with the official one and it worked flawlessly.

I'm having the exact same problem with my new HTC one. The HTC does have headphone jack issues because my jawbone up does not work with it. However, I'm using a very good set of cans so it's not a headphone quality problem. If they do only work with stock or beats then the phone is going back.

having this issue with skullcandy 50/50s. Wizdroid, headset blocker, poweramp headset controls off. Nothing fixes it.
Same here, Using an Parrot Zik.... over bluetooth with beyondpotcast, poweramp etc.. Got the impression it's caused by other processes going on im the background.
Update, Just tested it with airplane mode on, no jitters then.
Okay, I think I have this issue. At first I thought it was the custom rom, then I thought Pandora was buggy, cuz it would skip six songs and cause me to hit my limit. Also, volume rockers didn't work right, sometimes pressing the volume would open the voice search or make a phone call, or more likely the phone thought I was holding down a headset button. I'll give Headset Blocker a shot.
Other than this, my phone is perfect.
I have this problem intermittently. I was on a plane recently and the songs would play for a minute or something and skip or stop. However right now it doesn't do it. I am using stock headphones. It also does it with other media players, not just stock. I thought I had found some feature on the phone to change the songs but no, it does this and I have no idea why.
Hi,
I have exactly the same problem with my HTC One. When I'm using the stock headset it fast forwards, skips the music in all audio players but when I plug in standard headphones without a mic, sennheiser cx300ii, all those issues disappear. Right now I can't say if its the faulty socket on the phone or the headset problem since I don't have any other headsets with a mic to test it with.

I think you may be getting on to something. I made a few calls with the stock headphones recently and it was popping and crackling like crazy. Unusable. Maybe defective headphones.

I downloaded a third party app which blocks the mic and I no longer experience the skipping songs problem. The app is wizdroid.

Yea, the few calls I made had the same result. Everyone who I spoke with using the headphones said that they can't hear me clearly and there is a lot of noise.
found my fix.
Hi all,
I discovered I have this problem while I was at the gym. I tried downloading the Wizdroid app but that did nothing for me. I then tried to use a different set of headphones with and without a mic and that solved the problem.
Seems like the control button and mic on my HTC headphones has broken, which is a shame 'cus they were good headphones
Hope this helps.
I'm having the same problem, and I stumbled across this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301998
Will be trying it as soon as I can scrounge up some materials. Will update with results.
EDIT: This happens with every pair of headphones I try. Haven't tried the aforementioned app though, I'll test with that too.

The rubber o-ring works! I keep it on my headphones and it isn't intrusive in any way.
Great! Thanks, the stock headphones are not too bad so I'd like to keep using them for listening to some music.

Got to work this morning. Plugged in my headphones and started to listen to music using Google play. It sounded terrible very soft a high amount of background noise. Pretty much unusable. Played the same track using HTC music app and it sounds perfect no issues what so ever. Then tried streaming so music using MOG and it sounds terrible again. Anyone else have this problem?
If it matters headphones being used are vsonic gr07.

I had an issue in car when I tried to play music from htc music app through aux/headphone jack, the music was jumpy and distorted. Had it synced to my bluetooth which it usually defaults to but it didnt this time because I plugged in aux 2nd. Anyway, did a reboot and turned off bluetooth and it worked fine. I'd try testing it with just one active connection, then add more (bluetooth/streaming etc) to see if thats your problem.
A reboot took care of it. Not sure what it was.

Hi all,
this one is pretty amusing at times, but mostly frustrating. So I have a this HTC One which was shipped with Android 4.1. Everything was great. Then I updated to 4.2 using the normal "check for updates" procedures.
Now, whenever I hang up or ignore a call, my MP3 starts playing. Systematically. Sounds like a bluetooth issue (most of my calls are dealt with through my bluetooth headset). I uninstalled the bluetooth app (Plantronics Voyager Legend UC), reinstalled, deleted and re-paired the device. No luck.
I can;t find anywhere a "playback" setting of any kind. Google-is-my-friend tells me I'm not the only one with that issue but so far, no solution.
If anyone has a clue, aside reverting to 4.1, I'd be grateful as this is quite embarrassing when you're in a meeting and you ignore the call... (good thing I got rid of my heavy metal MP3 files...).
Thanks,

I did get a chuckle on this one. The only suggestion I have would be to download a 3rd party music player, check it as the default player, and see if that helps.
Woops sorry buddy I didn't mean not to reply, just been busy. So yeah this is amusing at best. So I uninstalled all apps related to the headset, rebooted once more, and voila ! No more MP3.
As to why it ever happened in the first place, I'm as puzzled as you on that one.
Cheers though,
Well I spoke too early... randomly, after I hang up, there comes the music...
I considered slapping the phone on the wall but that's not very viable.
I went through all the settings for the phone, the music player, the bluetooth headset, I can't figure this one out.
Any ideas you want to throw at me, please do. Thanks,
I think I've been able to narrow it down. I think it only happens (but I have to confirm this) when the "car" application is on. However in the settings I can't see "resume music after a phone call" or something similar.
I think it's the "Car" application, however it's called, because the way the "play forward stop pause" buttons look similar to what's on the screen when the music starts playing... it's a long shot I know.
Do you allow your headset to be a control for the music player? If so, using the headset to hang up may well start the music playing.
