Hello
I got G1, rooted it, got 1033d? SPL and 27.08 radio. Installed ezGingerbread (28.08 version). When I plug it in via USB cable, i got notifications on phone:
USB debugging connected
USB connected (Select to copy files to/from computer)
When i proceed to enable USB mass Storage, after clicking button which enables it, phone restarts.
If i dont enable Mass Storage on phone, in windows (7) i can see "Removable Disk",
But cant see its size, or access it.
When I enabled Mass Storage for first time on phone, i saw size of removable disk, (its around 3 GB, with couple of MB taken). When i tried to access it, phone restarted.
Each time after that, phone restarts immediately after clicking enable USB mass Storage.
I tried restarting computer and reinstalling drivers, no luck...
EDIT1:
adb and fastboot work correctly
misc: this is my first smartphone, second day of using it, so i may be missing something obvious
Not bad for a first day. You seem to be doing everything right.
I just tried it on Linux and everything works well, but Windows could be different.
Since you have ADB working you can type "adb logcat" into a shell before you try to connect USB Storage and it should give a useful message before restarting. It is also possible to get the last kernel messages before the phone restarted with "adb shell cat /proc/last_kmsg" Either of those should tell "someone" what the problem is.

I have tried reflashing cyanogenmod two times, and tried both amon ra, clockwork and psfreedom recovery. Neither manages to make my Dream look like a mass stragedevic to any computer, and the PSFreedom version doesn't manage to do its thing either.
So something about the usb on my phone seems to be borked. Adb and fastboot works lik it shoud, and it charges, but it won't act as a mass storage or jailbreak device what so ever, and it do seem to be rom independent. Any ideas?
These instructions are for Windows 7:
First, plug in your phone with the USB cable. Try going to the Device Manager on your computer. Find your device (if you can), and right click > Properties. Click the "Driver" tab and then click "Update driver..." Now click "Browse my computer for driver software", then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer", then finally click "USB Mass Storage Device".
Then it shall install the driver. Go back Computer and see if it shows up under the Device and Removable Storage section.

First, do the usb icons appear at the top of the screen when you plug it in to the computer? There should be a icon that you can select to turn on usb storage. If you have that but it doesn't recognize it, I need to know more about your pc.
If there is no usb icon, replace the usb cable and try again. Also check the port on your phone and make sure there's no corrosion (green stuff)
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
Sleeps17: I'm not that dumb, luckilly, but thanks anyway.
It is solved now, after running a comlete wipe script, erasing everything from fastboot, and then reflashing radio, hboot and recovery from fastboot., I'm still a bit stumped as to what could have caused this. The USB icon did appear, and I could choose to mount USB storage, but I would just get errors in dmesg (running linux) onj my computer when i did.
I did try to flash a home-baked recovery image that there was something wrong with, along with a bunch of other recovery images. Guess something must have screwd something up.
Hello, my Samsung Galaxy S I9000 fell and the screen is broken.
When I turn on the phone, I can hear the start up sound. When I connect it to PC, the drives are recognized but not mounted as I cannot select the menu in the phone.
USB debugging was not selected.
Is there a way to access the internal storage as I need to recover the data?
Please help.
1)activate phone in recovery mode (POWER+VOL UP+HOME)
2)connect the phone via usb to a computer
3)use adb to recover your files (i would recommend checking this guide or any other you can find, if you dont know how to use adb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619153 )
You can mount USB Storage in CWM Recovery if you have it. If not try to flash a kernel with it, like CF-root or Speedmod.
Having the same problem, however I can't enable USB Debugging as my touchscreen is non-responsive and my android device doesn't support OTG USB mice etc

you have a big problem, have you try with linux, like ubuntu, perhaps you have more luck
You can flash cf root which comes with CWM recovery. Then mount USB storage with cwm recovery (press volume up+home+power) then you can access the internalbsd card.
similar problem
Hi I have a very similar problem with my Xperia S LT26i. I dropped it into the bath and it was only in the water for about 30 seconds. Now the touchscreen is not working and the colour has stared to bleed out of the screen. the screen was fine first (looked normal) but now it is very faint and mono-colour which seems to keep changing for dark to white.
I have plugged it into three different computers now and the phone is shown but nothing in it is shown. The USB debugging was not enabled, as previously I didn't know this had to be enabled. Please tell me there is a way around this? the phone itself is still working as I have had a phone call and texts come through. really want to save my data please help!
PC companion doesn't read it either as it says the phone has to have USB debugging enabled. also apparently the Xperia S doesn't have a recovery mode.
Recently my Galaxy s2's screen smashed, and, after replacing it with a GS4, i realized that many of my pictures were stuck on the internal sd card of the GS2. Being unable to turn on mass storage mode, I made a very simple tool that makes using adb pull a simple, painless process, even for the most computer illiterate of android users. Hope this helps if anyone needs it

Hello folks,
I'm facing this "please insert a disk" issue when connecting my Note to computer via USB Debugging mode / Mass Storage Mode.
I'll let screenshots in the attachment explain itself. #1 shows the screenshot of devices menu when the phone is plugged into the computer in DEBUG mode; #2 shows the screen after I've clicked "connect USB storage" from the drop-down list of the phone; #3 shows what happens when I try to open one of the two "removable disks".
MTP mode works fine, as well as Kies connection. As I finally started exploring the potential of Android platform, I realized that MTP and Kies connection are the most useless connection options for me, and I'd rather leave it in debug mode all day. So has anybody experienced this issue, or had any suggestion on the solution?
As always, many thanks in advance, and many thanks button clicks afterward!
p.s.,
Desktop OS: Win7 Pro X64 SP1
Note: 2.3.6 Stock LB1 Open Germany Firmware, CF rooted LB1 kernel.
Also, I should have all the latest official device driver from Samsung, as I have the latest version of Kies installed (and I discovered a driver folder under Kies' installed location). I'm not so sure about adb driver, but I was able to find the Note to be listed under devices by typing "adb devices". So.. I don't know where could've gone wrong.
Help anyone?
This really sounds weird... I was facing problems of the Galaxy Note not being detected on several Windows7 32/64-Bit SP1 computers as well but this was gone after I installed SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.
You are right - from all that i know all required drivers should be available when KIES is installed on your system. Whatis even more strange is that your device seems to be detected as two partitions are available and are displayed in Explorer...
So I would test the following:
- check if your device manager lists any unknown devices
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
- check all available USB ports and see if this solves the problem
- try another USB cable
- make sure your (external) SD card is formatted with a Windows compatible file-system e.g. FAT32
Hope this is helpful and helps solving your problem.
Thanks for your reply!
My device manager basically listed all the drivers/devices associated with the phone:
My Device manager shows devices:
Samsung Android Composite ADB interface
Android UMS Composite USB device (x2)
SAMSUNG Android USB Modem
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Mass Storage Device (Android)
I've attached the screenshot when all the drivers being installed when the phone is firstly connected to the computer. Also in the device manager, everything shows "this device is working properly"
I then decided to test with another Note of my friend's (On the same computer). Her Note has no SD card in it, and is completely stock ROM non-rooted LA4 Open Germany firmware. The same thing happened.
One thing worth mentioning: Yesterday, this worked only for once. When I initially encountered this issue, I restarted my computer, and boom, my phone was connected in Debugging mode! However, once disconnected, and I tried to connect it to the computer again, this issue came back. And afterward, no matter how I restart my computer, the phone won't get connected.
I also tried all USB port (USB 2.0 and 3.0), three different cables (2 of them are Samsung OEMs) and failed to address the issue.
I'm nearly exhausted but I will never give up, as this is my only computer and my only phone (haha), and without solving this issue, I'm never gonna be able to view the phone as a USB storage and easily transfer the file from my computer to the phone.
I'm going to try the last thing that I haven't done from the list you posted:
- Uninstall KIES and try to find the SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones and install those
I believe that I can keep the driver folder in the Kies' folder, as I believe those are the newest Samsung driver, given that the Kies was the latest release version.
So far, I can only conclude that this issue is not related to specific phone but the Windows 7.
And thank you for your help btotaku!
If anyone has any insight into this issue, please help me. Thumbs up for you!
BTW, I was able to extract both SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe from under Kies' installation path under Program Files x86 folder, and an uncompressed folder of all kinds of drivers for Samsung device, called "USB Drivers".
And looks like I was wrong. The newest version of SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones I had was 1.4.8. While the driver that came with the newest Kies was 1.4.103
I'll post back soon
Reinstal Windows on your PC bro.
Problem fixed.
is that your internal memory or the sd card?
Same thing happens either with SD card in the phone or not

That's the last thing I would do
Hello,
I just installed the new MIUI.us 4.0.3-2.3.9.
Found in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479348
Everything work perfectly fine. Except..when I plug my USB, my computer can't find it. Nothing pop-up to say do you want to enable USB transfer or something like that. The connector should not be the problem because the battery is charging.
Any ideas on what could cause the problem?
Thank you in advance.
If you have adb setup, you can see if it's recognized by using the 'devices' command. If it is detected then you just need to enable usb mass storage mode from the rom.

That's the problem I don't know where in the rom I can enable usb mass storage because normally it pop up.
Did you even read the thread? I didn't even click the link until now and saw how to enable it within 5 seconds.
So, hi community. I have been for a while here. Just reading and trying some roms, but im almost a 100% noob and now i have a big problem.
Here's the thing:
My moto X is unlocked and with AP fastboot working and TWRP 2.8.6.0 installed and working (at least it seems to).
I installed a rom and it didnt work (cant add my google account so cant start) so i decided to wipe it and install another one. When i tried to wipe data (which i shouldnt but did it by mistake) TWRP crashed (constant vibration) so i changed data format and then formatted it back to F2FS. After that i just pressed "Format Data" option again and wiped everything else... (yes, i was overwhelmed and doing bad things).
So the phone is totally empty and i need to put files in it.
I thought to use adb sideload, so i went to recovery and entered to that function but i got a red "ADB Sideload complete Failed" message in the phone. So adb wont start.
I went to PC and tried to see if the device is recogniced but when plugged (in fastboot mode) computer says "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" (under device manager). Of course when i open a command promt the commands "fastboot devices" or "adb devices" list nothing.
I have Motorola device manager installed (uninstalled and installed like 10 times) i also opened the Motorola Driver Installer and did a "Clean and reinstall".
So, i went to another PC, with windows 7 (last one was Windows 10) i fresh installed SDK, mfastboot and device manager. But, when phone is plugged same story repeats.
I thought "i should buy an OTG cable and transfer files to phone with TWRP recovery from a pendrive" So i went to the store, buyed the cable, plugged the pendrive and when trying to tick OTG usb option in Mount section, i cant tick it. And when i select Storage, it says 0mb.
So, OTG usb is not beign readed either.
Just to let you know, i tried 4 different USB cables to connect phone to PC.
So i came to the questions:
Is my charge pin broken and thats the issue?
Is my TWRP corrupt, and thats why it doesnt open ADB Sideload and doesnt read OTG usb?
If the second option is correct. Why the heck i cant get my phone readed by my PC? Its because ive never enabled Usb Debugging options? But there is no OS in there anymore!
Well... My phone is now crying for help, and so do i.
I thank you for reading and i hope someone can help me.
Good bye and good luck!
Nothing??
Please, someone give me a hand with this...
