firmware, best battery and speed? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Simple question....
Which is the firmware with the best speed, more stable, and best battery saver...?
Im actually running CyanogenMod

i heared XXJVS is good
download it here

Another 'I'm looking for the best ROM'-thread...
Just try some ROMs and you'll find your favourite...

Base JVS works fine and battery lasts very long, but for performance and reactivity I'd suggest you to flash Simplicity, it has semaphore kernel with Voodoo sound, Voodoo color, Nexus S drivers (GPS and video)... etc

Running JVS at the moment with semaphore kernel 1.7.5 with Innovation v5.2 rom. No problems so far, good battery life. Some people are said to be having wifi problems but i haven't experienced it. All good so far

I'm very sorry, but there are a lot of threads like this - just read through them and you'll find a good ROM for you!

Try to flash cyanogen mod with neo kernel or stock jvt with seamphore ;-)

JVT is the best i would say, before i've been on JVR and then JVS and i would say in JVT there are some improvements in speed, but just a bit.
But compared to JVR/S i think battery life haven't really changed.

[Q] ROM for best battery life?

Edit: go ahead and move me, wrong forum...
What is the ROM that you guys have experienced the best battery life on? I had great battery life on one of the Cognition betas right after DG started using Froyo, but I don't know which one .
I'm using Perception Build 7 and I get a strong full day of use, but I would love to get more. I usually keep certain battery-draining activities to a minimum (e.g. auto-updating apps) so I would like to see even better performance, battery-wise.
So what's your experience with battery life and different ROMs?
Any of the latest cognition roms were best for me. I find that the ported roms are never quite as good.. but im using them anyway for the speed.
I found the insanity rom with the cogkernel was a pretty good combo. The rom was minimal and the kernel was just uv and not oc. It was pretty good. It rivaled the battery I got with frankentwiz and the unhelpful uv combo,Which ill miss forever T.T

[Q] Best ROM for holiday use?

Hello guys! On sunday, my gf and I are going on a trip to UK and France. I'll be able to use my phone to taking pictures, sending SMS's, connect to Wi-Fi, posting to Tumblr/Facebook and listen to music, but will probably not be able to charge the phone every night. Therefore, I think I've to change ROM from Galnet MIUI to a custom stock ROM to get a longer lasting battery. MIUI is a fantastic ROM, but I can't get the battery to last longer than 18 - 24 hours with semi-heavy use.
So which ROM would you choose on a holiday trip, where you want to connect to internet a few times every day, taking pictures, you name it, without being able to charge every night? Or, is there any CM7/MIUI -kernels that is very battery efficient?
Would appreciate answers.
If you don't matter going back to Froyo just take Darky's 9.5. In my opinion best Froyo-ROM and even better than Darky 10.1.
But I probably wouldn't use CM7 on holiday, it just drains too much battery (but it is one of the best ROMs) for SGS...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Thank you for the answer.
I don't want to go back to Froyo, but how is Darky 10.1? Is it kind with the battery too?
I don't know, I tried 10.1 for only 2h, then I flashed CM7.
But for the things you'll need on holiday 9.5 would be perfect.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
just my opinion if froyo is an option:
use the last froyo based ultimate rom (8.2) by webstar and combine it with the last froyo kernel by damian (1.3 beta 3 i believe) This kernel also allows uv which saves some battery as well
I've used this combination for quite some time and I am still amazed by battery life and stability!
Again, thank you for answering! I don't like to think about a downgrade, but I shall think about using either Darky's or Ultimate. But, let us say that these Froyo ROMs doesn't exists, which Gingerbread ROM have the best battery life?

Try a jvp rom
Insanity cm 014/glitch
well problem is... if you go for a sammy gb rom you will have to flash gb bootloaders, then flash back to froyo when/if you return to MUIU or CM7
Bujv9. Stock with damiens beta 7 i think is the best real world battery life. I tried jvp with gto and went back to bujv9. Just my opinion though...whatever works for you.

Therefore, MIUI Galnet is not going to be the best rom for me to use.

when I'm going on holiday, I try not to replace the proper tools with the sgs. So for pics and video, I use a real photocamera... not the emergency microbic sensor normally mounted on smartphones, even our beloved sgs. Since you're planning to take videos and pics, you should also plan about the best way to take them!
cameras on smartphones... this should be matter for another thread really... as an example, I read here and there people worrying about focus bugs, but depth of field is a function of sensor size (size, not pixel count) and sgs sensor is SO small that DOF tend to be always infinite and the focus problem irrelevant.
My bottom line: don't waste juice and bring a real camera!
Cm7 and miui don,t Have fantastic battery life try jetpack it has very good battery life !

[Q] Cyanogenmod 7.1 Battery Life?

Hello all,
I have seen reports that because the source code for the captivate has not been fully released, some of the processes cannot be put to sleep when they are not being used, and therefore causes bad battery life. I am just about to flash CM 7.1 and am curious to know how the battery life is on the captivate.
All info is greatly appreciated!
LWt mw know what you find out! Just flashed it and my battery goes quicker than my bank account. Please let me know what I can do to help this I like the rom

Jaye,
This happens frequently when flashing a new ROM, you should try wiping the battery stats or giving the ROM a few days to calibrate with the battery.

Yeah that's pretty awful. Try doing a battery calibration to see if that helps. It should never go that quick (unless you're playing some serious games). I've never really had great battery life with cm7/miui I've had the best battery life with all the recent samsung gingerbread leaks. I think those are better than cm7. But that's my opinion.
I am in CM7.1 since Sunday. I had very awful battery in start. So I did battery calibration, manually. So I got very decent battery on wifi. But at work I use att data so again my battery life was horrible. But I am seeing improvement since I am using this app called green power to manage my data. Try that.

If you get good battery on WiFi but not with mobile data, try a different modem. Not only are some modems inherently better on battery, but if you find one that gives you a better signal you should see improvements in battery life as well.
Flashing the Glitch kernel seems to have improved my battery life.

Solid Battery Life w/ Stock Kernel
Hey Everyone,
Juts came to report that I have been getting great battery life using the stock kernel. I would say it is a little better than Serendipty VII Build 2 which I came from. Only issue, and this is something I know is inherently wrong with Cyanogenmod on the Captivate, when you fully charge the device, it only shows it is charged to 98%.
Other than that, all good!

Have you seen an improvement in this regards, I am having the same issues, the WiFi is draining my battery slower then my data is.
I have also done the battery calibration and it doesn't seem AS bad... still doesn't appear to be great though.
I am just coming back to this ROM after experiencing battery issues even though Glitch helped a little. I decided to try and tweak some more this go round.
I am experiencing much better results this time. Here are settings and other tweaks or modifications I have in place.
-sync is turned off
-using Launcher Pro with very few widgets (just 3GWatchdog and Power Control)
-auto brightness turn off manually adjust according to need
-gps, wifi, BT, and data turned off when not in use
-wifi notification and location detect off
-installed jk4 modem (may get better results with different modem depending on your area)
-installed Glitch v12 high leakage
-the biggest factor this time I think is UVing on the Freqs that are used while phone sleeps >>>>>100/200mhz (set for the lowest UV setting possible on these that do not result in a sleep death or reboot when phone is put to sleep)

The best ICS roms regarding battery are 4.0.4 roms. Semaphore kernel works very good too.

I use SmartassV2. I use my phone very much and it still lasts for at least 24 hours.
until now, slimics+kernel stock seems the best choice for me.
For example, this morning:
- 40minutes listening to music
- wi-fi always on
- brightness almost at maximum
- 20 minutes with adobe reader
and only 25% burnt down.
I've used semaphore for a long time, very good kernel though, but the battery life ain't enough for me.

Slim by far. The ROM has literally no bugs, way more features than default ICS but doesn't have any bloatware. Battery life is awesome with default kernel & as for performance, its smooth as silk. Can't say about the others but literally for months I haven't even come close to considering others, there's no point. I haven't even upgraded from my SGS as a result, still satisfied with my phone.
