So, Broinlaw just got a huge grant (20K) from some art foundation as an achievement award. Part of that award is for putting his work into digital form which he still needs to do. He needs a computer now.
My brother in law is a great guy with awesome skill but he doesn't know the first thing about computers. He's asking about Mac but I've never owned one, besides I'm sure his needs will be far different that my simple web surfing.
Since many things of interest on this forum play well into both the computer arena and the artistic realm, I figured I get some very good feedback.
What do you use, what do you recommend? How ever you want to attack the topic is fine with me.
When I say he's an artist, I mean it in pretty much every sense of the word. He'll take a new medium and make it his. I expect he'll do this with a computer too. I'd like to see it anyway.

And the serious part: I recommend buying a Mac. Macs are good at this, and with "this" i mean photo/music/movie etc editing. You can also get a lot of editing software of high quality.
As much as I hate CrApple. He needs a Mac.

When I saw the first news articles about this thing, I though the only innovation in it was the big multitouch screen. (which would make it nothing more than an oversized tablet) but the idea of wirelessly autosyncing device just by putting them on the screen is nice.
One point though: How many of you would place a drink on a 10000$ computer screen?

I think what's most interesting about this device is the department that made it, the same that makes gadgets and Zune. But consider: Scoble saw this two years ago. Think what they're upto now? It took them 2 years to fix the SMS counter on MS Smartphones, so maybe they've finally got SMS <> Outlook syncing working now!
@levenum: I've been working (Law, not phones ) for a while, apologies for my hypospermia. But, I have been coding too, and boy it felt good! Lots of new stuff coming out, eventually...

PS I wrote a multi touch interface once, on a small screen. But on 2.8 inches there's not much it's good for IMHO. Any thoughts?
Well, it they're $5000-$10,000 initially by the end of '07, that should make 'em affordable to the rest of us in 3-5 years. Now if it will just MIX the drink AND serve it.....

I was wondering if anyone has tried to get this issue on TV? Something like CNN TECH, X-Play, or Attack of the Show. Maybe something a bit more national and mainstream would spark a bigger fire. I think all of the technology websites linking the story are a HUGE help, maybe its time to call in the larger media cannons.

This just in, HTC an electronic gadget creater has pissed off some 13000 nerds with overpriced phones. From our understanding the gadgeteers decided to neglect its customer base by omitting a video driver in it's software package. This missing video driver is responsible for poor renduring of the display and the nerds also accuse it of slowing down the phone and causing crappy camera quality.
Now back to your regurly scheduled program.

I got a premium for free not reading discs and it only cost me £40 for a new drive!
then i got an elite for free with rrod, but i couldn't fix it. So i got £26.09 when i sold it on eBay.
So i bought a Ps3 off eBay that didn't read discs and that come to a total of £118, and they are about £160 second hand.

Why the hell would you want to have WP7 on that? Small screen, physical qwerty to make absolutely no use of your epicly smooth keyboard ... And you can run all over my cat to get to that thing, stupid expensive. lol

Yeah, both of my girls are special to me. My older one has a puking issue also. I have to keep her one food and never alter it. Any changes and her stomach can't take it. My other one is a female Garfield. She's a garbage disposal. Wherever there is food being eaten, her little eyes will be watching it and she will make sure everyone sees her. She's a little butterball.
Yeah, designed by Porche is definitely a plus.
I have used the N4 for couple of days, everything is far beyond expectation, the quality, design...it is the most satisfied android device i have ever used. i have used android device from hTC, Samsung, LG, Sony... but non can compete with this one. the only thing is voice quality, i suspect the it maybe the quality of the isp, i am still checking...
