hey, has anyone been able to completely replace their old sms app with the cm7 one? I found conversation.apk but it threw around some errors. anyone know if I was replacing the right one? I read its called mms.apk but there's no suh apk on the droid 3

i have a problem with mms, under titanium i freeze quicksms 2.3.4 and textmessaging 2.3.4 after i install mms.apk 2.3.4 (search google) and put the apk in system/app and i install handcent sms, all sms and mms function.
You just turn off notifications in the old messaging apk. And install the cm7 one

Actually the stock messaging app causes received messages to have a fake duplicate of 4 hours earlier in cm7 mms for some reason. I use the the cm7 mms....to fix the duplicate error u have to delete or rename the stock blur messaging

I removed Conversations.apk & odex and dropped CM7's messaging apk into the system/app folder, rebooted, worked fine.
I also removed Messaging.apk & odex as I didn't need those either, but not needed just to do messaging.
Still low quality MMS though.
All I did was install it and it worked, didn't change anything.

Pull it out of the rom zip you flashed. It'll be in ZIP/system/app/
Yup, look for Mms.apk in /system/app
thanks that works

delete it using Root Explorer. its in /system/app/. you can probably delete it with Titanium Backup too. Astro doesnt have root permissions.

If Titanium Backup doesn't remove it for you try Super Manager with root access enabled it its settings menu
Latest gmail 2.3.2 apk
Just place onto your sdcard and then install.
Works fine on a Samsung Galaxy S i9000
Yes. it is very simple. And I find this always works:
Install the new version, if it fails, reboot the phone or restart the Java VM. Do the install again. Done.
I have the same problem with the last apk of Gmail and with Launcher Pro Plus.
I have solved both in the same way, deleting the original with SUBFS or another root explorer.
i have the same problem.
then,i take a gmail APP form CM 6.1 to install...
i'll done~
try it!
guess this is still for 2.2 only? i've seen various threads on other forums claiming there's a 2.1 version goin around and im not sure if it's modded or not
It seems I can't flash to 2.3.1 GRH78 because I get "assert failed apply_patch mms.apk" while applying zip through recovery.
I am using rootboot.img from koush.
The mms.apk is the custom app w/black background.i think the update is trying to patch the original mms.apk and failing.
Has anyone encountered this issue? Can someone post original mms.apk
Thanks

Sounds like the same issue I'm having.I'm now using dark gmail and I'm guessing u r not using the modified mms.apk

I ran into the same problem earlier today. I used the mms.apk from Cyanogenmod to try and fix my blurry MMS issues.
I think I'm just going to flash Paul's ROM tomorrow when he includes the OTA.
Here you are!
I had the same problem too with the black Mms.apk. So, I reverted back to the stock Mms from Supercurio's system dump, then, I just used adb to push it and solved my problem.
Well, looks like it's easier to find the Mms.apk ^^^^

I can't seem to install the stock mms.apk.
adb install attached Mms.apk
I get "Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE]" I have more than enough storage.
I also tried doing adb install Mms.apk and I get
"Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT]"
Any ideas?
I also tried to to push to /system/app and reboot but that didn't work. Does it have to do with me missing Mms.odex file?
Another way is to used Root Explorer or DDMS File Explorer in Eclipse. I've included a screen shot. If you don't already have Eclipse setup you can find How too - HERE to setup.
Wipe and flash Paul's gingerbread ROM and then push black mms and gmail again. You don't lose root, you get 2.3.1 and a few other goodies like ext4 performance tweak
.
I'll try that .
i ended up flashing the stock nandroid with 2.3.1 , rooting and keeping the regular mms and gmail.
Thanks

I just added paul's Rom. Wow, it flies!
I was a bit hesitant to add a custom mod with the nexus s because it's already fast n gingerbread is nice on top of the fact that I was tired of Rom a week.
But thanks it's awesome

Forgive me if this topic is already out there. I can send/receive sms and 'send' MMS, but when I try to open a mms, I get a FC!

We kinda need a little bit more info to help. Rom? Modem? Did you replace the messaging apk? Are you using the stock messaging?
Are you using any custom roms?
Yes? Then I would suggest you check the rom's thread to see if the problem is known or solved by searching there.
Does anybody have a stock email.apk that works on the new ICS ROM?
I tried a few, but they all FC (copy to /system/app, set perm, clear data).
