Thanks. I was able to use these instructions to root my newly updated Streak 7.

Thank you...
Clear, easy to follow and success at the end... what else ???

I must be having a blonde moment. But how do I boot into cwm recovery w/o root already? I have cwm installed but of course I can't flash cwm recovery w/o root. And stock recovery of course won't let me upgrade with the too pkg. I appreciate any help in my obvious dumb ass moment here lol!
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using xda premium

how do you have cwm installed if you cant flash it?
Put your device into fastboot mode and flash the correct CWM.
CWM 3.0 if you're on 2.2.x
CWM 4.0 if you're on 3.2
there are directions to flash each one on their respective pages (they're flashed in the same manner btw, just I wrote one guide and graffixnyc wrote the other one i believe)

Oh ok I see. I was thinking flash thru recovery not Dearborn. Duh huh. Thx Nanni, much appreciated. And I meant I have cwm installed but no cwm recovery flashed yet.

sorry guys been at it since yesterday... can't find clockwork img file. Not to mention adb isnt working thru cmd prompt either. Any other method to root like ginger break?

Wow, it took like 45 minutes to root my thunderbolt, once my streak comes in I'll be on this asap
You should have killed me, when you had the chance

Looks nice. Now I guess I need to figure out how to upgrade from my 2.2.2 root with tweaks to HC without messing it up.

i did everything but i use the clockworkmod 5 XXX something and install the superuser7.zip the only icon i got is the superuser but this 3 is not in there how come?
SU binary 3.0
Bash 4.1
Busybox 1.19.2
thank you

Okay, I guess I don't get "Have Clockwork mod 4.0.1.4 installed" part. Don't you have to be rooted to get CWM installed? What am I missing?

In CWM 4 my External SD was seen, now that I installed 5 revB, it could not mount SD card. I moved superuser7 to internal and ran it, went through, but no root x4 times. Not sure if 5 is ready for prime time.

Did you get any solution for that Cach 22 problem? CWM must be installed to root your device but to install it your device must be fully rooted!!! It is like a question about what was first - egg or a chicken?

Finally got clockworkmod flashed, now
I keep getting "E:can't mount /sdcard/"
Was able to root from internal sdcard.

Every guide on web seize “to install CWM you must have your device rooted already” you are telling to root I must have CWM installed. What is I am not understanding?
Why you guys are making those guides understandable only for yourself or for guys they already know everything about the subject?

Because you dont need to be rooted to install it, nowhere does it say you need to be rooted to install it.

Give me just one link to the CWM installation page which is not requesting previous rooting, please.

The one RIGHT BELOW this one [Guide][Recovery]Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.7
All you need is to enter fastboot mode.

wolski, it isn't explained very well. You need to use fastboot to flash clockworkmod before the streak is rooted. This requires installing drivers which will support fastboot, and they DON'T install correctly the majority of the time under win7. You need to run around to several threads to figure out what you need to do.
Once you've got fastboot drivers installed and working (which may require the android SDK and/or Dell's PC suite), and downloaded the fastboot command, and downloaded the clockworkmod image, then you can boot the streak into fastboot mode (power and volume down), and use the command line to flash CWM to the streak. However, in my case (and others), CWM 5.0 won't recognize your SD card. I WAS able to copy the file to the internal SD, and install superuser7.zip from there.
If someone had actually taken the time to explain all of this, instead of acting like it's things you should already know, a lot of people could have saved a lot of time.

Thank you very much. That clears a lot. As i said before - most of those guys are making those so called guides for them self. It must be same kind of mental illness. TheManiak is a perfect example.

Just got an Android 2.3.1 update for Nexus S. It's on ROM manager if you want it. Make sure you flash recovery 3.0.

Correct. Koush is currently looking at fixing this for CWM.
Can we try to update and flash the zip using adb?
This was just tweeted:

edit nevermind got update
I just got prompted OTA for this update. Anyone know it I was to accept it, would I have any problems since I changed my recovery to ClockWork recovery?
I know it's been said it's on rom manager now, I am just curious if there would be any potential problems of accepting OTA updates with the stock recovery gone.
I have cwm recovery flashed and looked in Rom manager but is getting that "the rom you are using does not support ota updates etc" How did you manage to get Rom manager to update it to GRH78??
ive tried every way listed on xda but still get a "error 7" when trying to flash the update. i am using stock rom with clockwork 3.0. anyone having the same issue or any way to fix it?
usb disabled?
Got the message from Google to update. So I let it do its thing, said unable to update zip and now seems my usb connection is broken. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm on NS despite my sig Also on CWR 3.0 unlocked

Well there is very little info in OP
and could be worded little better to avoid confusion
You have to put on Wifi and go to download ROM for some reason if you on on mobile network it wont show the update in rom manager
Dont bother it wont. From what i gathered we have to wait for modified version
Download the zip, choose to open with rom manager and it will flash fine with cw recovery 3.0.0.

is this with the paid version or non-paid?
the CWM update will work of you have not used Koush's rooboot.img and are running a the rooted boot.img.
He said he will release a version later tonight that should work with rootbootimg installed as well.
glad im on stock recovery + root.

"LOOK" Here First {List} Roms/Kernels/Mods/Themes/FAQ'S *Update 27/09/11*

This thread is here to make the lives of every one just that much easier. Will try to keep the first and reserved posts as up to date as humanly possible.
Please ask all questions in relation to issues you are having following the FAQ instructions to make it easier to answer your questions and easier for us to track the solutions that way the FAQ post is as up to date and accurate as possible.
As the GT10.1 landscape changes this thread will get updated. I will try and keep everything as simple and to the point as possible. Contributors will be much appreciated.
THE BASICS
BOOTLOADER MODE
Turn device off. Then hold down power + volume down button (the button closer to power button) until you see two icons appear then let go. Left icon (box) is recovery and right icon (Android robot) is Download. Use Vol. down to navigate then vol. up to select.
DOWNLOADING MODE
Just tap volume up when you have highlighted the android robot icon. You should see downloading appear under the icon.
RECOVERY MODE
Vol. up/down to navigate up or down and power button to select.
This is what you use to install ROMs/KERNELs and even themes for your specific roms when they become available. Just highlight the box icon and hit Vol. up. What we are doing now is replacing the stock recovery on your device with Clockwork Mod Recovery which allows you install unsigned ROMs/Kernels/Updates. When in recovery mode you can also back up whatever current ROM you have on your device so if you install a new ROM and something goes wrong you could always use recovery to restore. Whenever you install a new ROM it's advised to always wipe the device using cwmR to ensure a more stable install. Install new ROMS will also mean you will be losing all the apps on your device. It will look like you have a brand new device after the install unless its an update.zip for whatever rom you are currently on and the developer of that rom supports it.
Don't worry about losing your apps as you can always re-download them once you sync your device with your google account. However, the state of those apps and your settings will be lost, so I strongly suggest that you use an app like titanium back up and always make a back up of your apps before flashing any new ROMs. Check in the Recommended Apps section for a direct link to Titanium backup.
Here is the clockwork mod menu
- Reboot system now (self explanatory )
- Apply update from SDcard. (when you connect your device to your computer it will show up as tablet. The SDcard that cwm refers to is simply your device storage. Always make sure to copy install.zips to the root directory of your tablet storage.) You use this when applying an update for a specific ROM if that is what the ROM developer says.
- Wipe Data/ Factory Reset You should always do this before you install a new ROM or if you are having minor issues with your device.
- Wipe cache partition Think of this as the lite version of whats above . If you do above though it doesn't hurt to do this too.
- Install zip from SDcard Use this to install new ROMs.
- Back up and Restore
- Mounts and Storage use this to connect your device to your computer when in recovery mode. It is also possible to transfer files to your device while in this mode.
- Advanced What you are interested in here is something called dalvik cache, you want to wipe this too before installing any new ROM
- Power off

NVFLASH
Nvflash is a low level formatting and imaging tool. If you don't have a working recovery, or have broken the actual boot-loader on your tablet, this is the tool you will need to turn to. For those with unlocked bootloaders (and no fastboot capability), its the best way to root your device. Nvflash is pretty much NVida's version of say an ODIN program but done through cmd prompt. It can save a tablet if one is soft/semi-bricked or maybe full-bricked. To use nvFlash you must first put your tablet in APX mode (think of it as a way to allow you use commands on your computer to control your tablet).

1. Copy Files to root of device storage.
2. Boot into Bootloader mode and navigate to and enter recovery mode.
3. Apply Kernel.zip then recovery.zip
4. reboot.....Done.
UNROOTING & RESTORING STOCK RECOVERY
1. Using CWM Flash the stock rom for your device. This unroots your device and basically makes it like a brand new tablet.
2. Use Odin to flash the stock recovery from the filesfordummies.zip.
3. Done, your device is exactly how it was when you picked it up.
FLASHING ROMS AND KERNELS
This is pretty easy as long as you have CWM on your device.
Simply boot CWM recovery, navigate to either update/instal zip from SDcard (pls adhere to ROM/kernel install instructions) and flash the .zip file of the ROM or kernel.
I will update this section with links to all the existing and stable ROMs and kernels as the become available. I will advice that you hold off on the kernels if you can as every stable kernel will eventually get cooked into a ROM unless of course you want to help test them or be on the bleeding edge .

(Q) Should I follow these instructions for an IO edition tab? Or should I just use the fastboot flash [cwm recover] and flash the zips through that?
(A) This method will work on the IO version.
(Q) kernel 2.6.36.4 is a NO-GO for the 3G version?
(A) Yes, it doesn't work on the 3G version yet.
(Q) If my tab ins locked does that mean i cant flash kernels on it?
(A) You can flash anything as long as you have a recovery that will support it. In our case CWM. Being locked and unlocked really only stops you from flashing stuff "easily" but since we can change the recovery, we can flash anything.
(Q) Does the Odin file wipe tab?
(A) No. All Odin is doing here is flashing a new recovery to your tab. Nothing more.
(P) Can't see tablet as USB storage device on Mac.
(A) Unfortunately Android and Macs don't play nice... you best bet is to use dropbox or a simple bluetooth transfer to transfer files from your mac to your tablet. Then on your Tab use a file manager app to move your files to where you want them to be. For now. Another option is to download everything that requires you using CWM with your tablet so its all already there. So in CWM all you have to do is navigate to your downloads folder. I just created a folder called mods and I have them all there.
(P) Stuck in BootLoop after Flashing ROM via Odin.
(A) You should use nvFlash to falsh CWM if you don't still have it then do a full wipe of your device including reformating all partions in mounts and storage except the boot partition then using Odin install a stock Rom on your device.
(P) I messed things up on my LTE tab and I now somehow dont have a recovery mode anymore!!!!!
(A) Go Here and scroll to post #4 and follow tijayz instructions.... make sure to thank him!!!

(Q) Should I follow these instructions for an IO edition tab? Or should I just use the fastboot flash [cwm recover] and flash the zips through that?
The so-called "Mount device as USB Mass storage" thread has nothing to do with mounting the device as Mass Storage. It only tells you how to mount as MTP, which can be done without any of the steps mentioned in the thread. Seriously, it doesn't belong on this list.
Also, you should include instructions for using nvflash to install a custom recovery. I found it much easier and safer to root through this method than through Odin.
[Q] kernel 2.6.36.4
Many thanks for preparing this post.
Just wanted to add a question here: can you confirm that kernel 2.6.36.4 is a NO-GO for the 3G version?
Or is it related with TW versus plain HC?
I'm running the stock TW rom on a rooted 3G tab. Tried to flash the above kernel with OC purposes, had to recover through a CWM backup.
Thanks for clarifying

I'm just going to copy exactly waht I typed in the IRC -- I'm stuck without being able to reboot into recovery with an I/O tab. Also cannot get fastboot to work
- i got some help from here earlier but now i'm stuck again in rooting/flashing a custom rom on the IO edition
<slobdogg> i went through the ODIN process to revert to 3.0.1, then was able to adb reboot recovery and install the root file
<slobdogg> afterwards i installed clockwork mod using RM, and then did the update to a 3.1 OTA file on XDA
<slobdogg> now i'm supposed to reboot into recovery to reinstall root but i cannot
<slobdogg> even in ADB if i reboot recovery it just restarts the device...also, I cannot enter recovery through the Vol Down + Power method, just fastboot and odin
<slobdogg> so im right back where I was (3.1 with no root)

in order to do adb reboot recovery you need a rooted boot.
flash the latest tools pack, and you will get root/adb root shell/busybox,dropbear,ssh,etc.,etc.
you need to get CWM or the stock IO recovery on the device, prior to being able to flash.

What tools pack are you referring to? Can't seem to find something relating to that on the forum.
I feel like an idiot because it just seems like if i restart the process, I'll lose CWM again and be back where I am right now. If I could just get fastboot to work this whole thing would be a lot easier because I could just flash CWM without root.

As with most issues, mine turned out to be user error. I forgot to re-flash the root.zip file after flashing the 3.1 update. That prevented me from being ablet o reboot into CWM.
Started from step 1, and flashed the root file after the 3.1 update and now i'm fine.

This is only really known for certain to work on a retail locked or unlocked version. Not certain about the google i/o version but will ask around for you. But nothing here says that version is supported using this method.
However, i see no reason why it won't work though, assuming you only flash the root exploit.

Thanks, removed the usb thingy, however, it would be nice if you also contributed a link to the nvflash method so i could update the thread. its not my thread you know? it belongs to all of us. How good this thread ends up being all boils down to how helpful we all are.

As with most issues, mine turned out to be user error. I forgot to re-flash the root.zip file after flashing the 3.1 update. That prevented me from being ablet o reboot into CWM.
Started from step 1, and flashed the root file after the 3.1 update and now i'm fine.
Thanks!

Please everyone... carefully follow the instructions!!!
On another note, does this mean that this process works on a google i/o device already on android 3.1? Please let me know so i can update

Well, i put it up and took it out again, there is currently a much, much, much easier and direct method to root the device. And one that I am sure you will agree is by far more straight forward.
Lorddeff07 said:
This is only really known for certain to work on a retail locked or unlocked version. Not certain about the google i/o version but will ask around for you. But nothing here says that version is supported using this method.
However, i see no reason why it won't work though, assuming you only flash the root exploit.

I'm not sure if it's just my version of the I/O Tab, or all I/O Tabs, but one key thing is that I could NOT boot into recovery on a non-rooted 3.1 Edition.
On 3.1, adb reboot recovery would simply reboot my device. I cannot use the POW + VOL DOWN button combination because I am presented with a USB icon on the left (which takes you to fastboot - which would not work for me), and the ODIN Download Icon on the right.
So, the only changes to the instructions with regards to an IO tab is to remove any reference to "POWER + VOL DOWN" as the method of getting into recovery. IT MUST be done via a command -- either adb reboot recovery or using Rom Manager to boot into CWM.
Exact steps for me (brief):
1. ODIN to revert to 3.0.1
2. reboot the device, turn on USB Debugging
3. connect to computer and use ADB to "adb reboot recovery" then install root zip file once you get into the stock recovery
4. Reboot - install Rom Manager and Clockwork Mod.
5. Reboot into CWM
6. Install the 3.1 Update AND [before rebooting] re-install the root zip file
7. Voila!
Only thing is -- now that I am on 3.1, the only way for me to get into recovery is via Rom Manager because the 'adb reboot recovery' function only reboots the devices, and the button combination trick still does not work.
EDIT: paragraph above is not entirely true -- i can open a terminal on my Tab and type 'reboot recovery' to get back into recovery. So, it's just adb & the button combination that does not work.
I still cannot figure out why I cannot get fastboot to work. My computer even seems to recognize that I have a fastboot device connected, but I cannot send any fastboot commands; even fastboot devices returns nothing.

Ginger-Root Resource Thread: How-To + Issues + Fixes

Ok so I have successfully rooted my phone after updating to Gingerbread. However, I had a few issues and had to read through a bunch of different posts to get there. So I'm bored and decided to consolidate everything into one.
If anyone has any other issues or fixes post them here and I will update the OP.
Credit goes to mtmichaelson and all those who helped get this working
http://androidinvasion.us/forum/index.php/topic,77.0.html
Here it is:
1. ROOT PROCESS
A. Get back to Stock:
-download the stock Zv4 ROM zip from here and put it on your external SD card- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326893
-Back up all your apps in titanium (important: USER apps only, no data or system apps)
NOTE: It has been reported that restoring apps and data in titanium may cause some issues coming from Froyo to Gingerbread. I backed up my user apps only for easy re-install and NO data or system apps. It worked without a problem.
-MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 4G ENABLED
-boot into recovery (CWM)
-backup?
-factory reset
-select "install ZIP from SD card" in CWM, and install the stock ZIP from the link
-re-bootyour phone (you will have to re-activate it as well)
-install revo toolkit from here if it was wiped with the system reset - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951
-press "install recovery" and then !!!Revo Stock!!! to go back to stock recovery and wait for it to complete
B. Update to Zv6 then Zv7 (Gingerbread)
-manually search for the update and install it (this will install the v6 update)
-once that installs, manually search again to install the gingerbread update
NOTE: Some people still can't get gingerbread. Verizon has not finished rolling the update out to everyone yet.
Now here is where it gets a little dicey...
C. Rooting Your Gingerbread Phone
-pick up the rooting package from mtmichaelson here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326509
-follow the instructions he has on that page to obtain root
-Two issues arose for me from this point on.
2. ISSUES
A. Drivers Issue
-The first issue was that some people, including myself, couldn't download the esteem drivers.
-Some people were able to get the drivers from this page to work - http://androidnerds.net/2011/10/08/lg-esteem-oneclickroot-now-ready/.
-I was not able to get my computer to recognize my phone using the above drivers either. I would run the root command from the downloaded package and it would get stuck at "running daemon something something".
-What I did was manually uninstall the LG drivers from my computer and deleted everything "LG related"
-Then I got the drivers from the LG website at this link - http://www.lgforum.com/resources
-Scroll down to the Verizon section and download the "LG_VZW_UNITED..." drivers.
-Your phone should be recognized using the drivers from one of these links.
B. Superuser/Root access Issue - NOTE: this should be fixed now with mtmichaelson's newest root method found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326509
-The second issue that came up was that the previous superuser app I had installed stayed on my phone after the updates, even though I lost root.
-The root command from the LG Esteem page would think I had root, but I actually didn't get root access.
-Apparently this issue came up on the Esteem previously and someone wrote a fix for it here - http://androidforums.com/esteem-all...-w-superuser-3-0-6-binary-3-0-3-download.html. It will uninstall the old superuser and install the new version.
3. INSTALL CWM RECOVERY
-mtmichaelson's new rooting package should automatically install CWM recovery on your phone now.
Old method:
-To get CWM back on your phone it's the same process as before the update. Get the Revo Toolkit from thecubed here and follow the instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144951
-There is sometimes an issue where the recovery does not install correctly and gives a fatal error. If this happened, make sure you have version 1.17.1 of busybox installed at system/bin. This worked for me and I got it installed correctly.
...And you should have root after trying a combination of the above. Hope this helped.
-If you have READ through this and still have any issues you can get more personalized help on the IRC channel here.
-Again I did not help with any of this, I'm just consolidating info. If you want to thank someone, thank mtmichaelson and everyone else who helped figure all this out.
-I will keep updating this as new issues arise.
Thank you for compiling this information, it is a useful reference for people to have. I know that the drivers issue took me quite a while to work out even though it is pretty simple. Hopefully this helps others to get rooted with much less trouble.
Quick question using that stock ROM will it completely unroot me?
Also a bit confused with me running revolt does that mess up me just flashing that and it has the stock boot image.
I've Revolted have you?? Sent via tapatalk plugin.
i'm having issues with CWM... i flashed back to my stock+root backup and every time the OTA update tries to install it boots to clockwork. ran the exitrecovery.zip in clockwork and it still boots to clockwork. i cleared the cache/dalvik again, the OTA is downloading gonna try it again...

You need to use Revo toolkit to get cwm off and the stock recovery back on. from there it will run fine. Then you just have to reroot using MT's modified rooting .bat file

It depends on you connection speed. If it's 3g a while. I recommend doing it on 4g or wireless. You also need busybox installed in the right location. Install the version 1.17.1 in system/bin. The newer versions of busybox may work now but they previously did not.

It looks like it's a common problem. I haven't installed the ROM yet but mt's new gingervolt rom is supposed to make CWM stick - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1326542
Ok so I'm a complete and utter noob when it comes to CWM etc. Never had an android device before this one, never flashed a ROM.
I've got a pretty good grasp of whats going to be happening here, but I'm a little skiddish.
I'm on stock GB with root, at the point where i'm supposed to install CWM with the RevoToolkit. In the RevoToolkit instructions, thecubed says "If no version is listed, STOP and post here.". Well, no version is listed, presumable because i'm on a GB stock recovery. Do I stop here, or do I proceed with installing clockwork recovery?
Specifically, RevoToolkit reports "Version Not Found".
Advice?

I had the same thing I got all pissed and thought I was screwed then someone mentioned the GB thing. You'll be fine if you flash cwm. Just flash cwm, boot into it, make a backup in cwm, flash gingervolt, and reboot. everything will work fine

Awesome, thank you for the quick reply. Another stupid question that i'm sure is answered somewhere on here, but what exactly will I lose when flashing a ROM, and what will I be able to restore back with a backup?

[Recovery] ClockWorkMod 5.0.2.8

Well I got to compile the last non-touch recovery and finally is now possible to mount both SDcards (internal and external).
Work:
Installing from ZIP
Factory Reset
Wipe Cache
Backup Nandroid
Internal and External SDCard
Untested:
Fix Permissions
Battery Stats
SDCard Partition
Download: CWM 5.2.0.8
Thanks to TheManii for the help.

Try this recovery for ICS maybe work. If boot work maybe in ICS the problem is recovery.fstab
The partition is different of HoneyComb?
Greetings
I just tried it on ICS B4 and get the same "Can't mount /data!" error after backing up the boot image, recovery img and system that I got with CWM 4.0.1.4.
Backup to internal card errors with "Can't mount backup path". Whoops! I didn't mount the EMMC. Probably would get the same error as with the external sd.
Recs designed for HC wont wont on ICS as ICS has different partitions.
If we ever get an ICS build that uses the same partitions then the recs for HC will also work on it
Edit: 5.0.2.8 is mirrored and linked to the wiki now

Any with ICS, You can enter the recovery (CWM 5.0.2.8) and go to Advanced-> Show Log
After this reboot to system. Open Root filemanager and go to cache/recovery/last_log (To read the last_log must copy it to another route) & copy the info here.
And repeat the process with Stock Recovery of ICS (Attach ICS Stock Recovery of the ICS B4 of DJ_Steve ROM).

Man, ok heres my story.
Actually iam trying to flash a recovery mode but there so many threads that i dont know wich one is better. I tried some of them but i dont know where to start. I only end up at the fastboot mode and not pass that.

and you ran "fastboot flash recovery ./recovery.img" ? And you made sure your device is in fastboot mode first?
ok this what i did, i Press VOL + AND POWER at the same time and gave me fastboot.
Then plug in the phone to the computer and the computer detects it but when i go to the computer devices it does not show anything available.
I do have the ROM MANAGER app Installed and flash the recovery mode but it does not show up when i press VOL - AND POWER, It just turns ON.
just type in "fastboot devices". if you see "? device" than you are good. If not you need to install the fastboot drivers.

Can't install CWM after ZV9 root

I was running Ginervolt 2.0 on ZV7. I chose to install the Stock ZV8 rom using LGNPST. It eventually installed ok. Afterward it successfully installed the ZV9 Rom from the Big Red Mothership. I used @dexter35803 's VZ8/9 Root utility to root the rom and it worked. SU is installed and is allowing root access to cachemate and RomManager. However, I am not able to install Clockwork Mod.
I used Easy V8 to install CWM. it reported access denied.
I tried to install CWM using the one click method and it reported access denied errors.
My attempt to confirm CWM recovery was to use
Code:
ADB Reboot Recovery
from the command prompt to force it to boot into recovery.
That resulted in the LG Boot logo, followed by a black screen.
I used the PWR + VOL Down button to gain access to CWM, it proceded to wipe the user data like the stock recovery,
Lastly I used RomManager to install Clockwork. It succeeded in gaining root access via SU, and proceed to reboot. Now it's Stuck @ the LG Boot logo.
After waiting 5 minutes I pulled the battery. Now if I use PWR + vol down, it will wipe the user data, but again hang at the LG boot Logo.
What should I do?

use root explorer and go into system/etc/ and delete the file called install-recovery.sh
The reason why you aren't getting clockwork recovery to work is because the install-recovery.sh is a shell script designed to over write any recovery back to stock recovery on each boot. So when you run the cwr tools and the phone reboots the script immediately erases what you just did. So deleting this file before you run the tool will allow the tool to install a perminant cwr
then run V8 all in one root plus cwr here https://www.dropbox.com/s/l1090uvf1iw3jux/V8%20All%20In%20One%20-%20Root%20and%20CWM.zip
and choose install root and cwr options and viola
+1 on removing the script.
But before all that your going to need to flash the v8.tot in emergency download mode, use the test mode fix, update, use the v8 aio, and hope you have a nice day. if cwm doesn't stick then try removing the script described above and rerunning the aio smile and have a brewski for your time and trouble.

You should really read his second to last little paragraph. He used Rom Manager to install CWM when it's not supported for the phone. So now he'd have to install ZV8 through LGNPST to have a working phone again. Also, This should really be in General instead of Development.
Where should I start?
With the Phone @ the LG Boot Logo screen, the LGNPST windows application will not recognize the phone nor will ADB.
Update, found something
1. pull battery
2. pull USB
3. hold [PWR] + [vol Up]
4. Plug in USB
5. Wait for display to flash and read "Downloads in progress. Do not Disconnect cable. "
But this only lets me update the phonebook, not flash a rom or use ADB. what now?
When you select the phonebook file to flash, use the instructions on selecting the v8.tot. It'll flash everything, not just the phonebook.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't cwm not available for v9? So going higher than v8 is useless until the way to install cwm is figured out, besides I don't remember seeing any posting that there said that there is a custom ROM for v9 yet.

test mode fix
I found the thread on
Code:

But it just crashes in XP native. Any thoughts? I have installed DotNet 3.5 Framework, but that doesn't seem to work.
Well, I found the zv4 TOT rom that I could download from. (most of them now only let the owner re-download.)
I flashed it with LGNPST. So with this FroYo rom, it no longer reported to be in Test Mode, when plugging in a USB cable. However, it also would not update through
Code:
Settings Menu --> About Phone --> Software Update --> Check New.
I used LGNPST again to flash the ZV7 rom over ZV4. However the phone again reports being it test mode @ startup and when plugging in to a PC.
I hope the VZW store can fix this, i am all out of ideas.
I would try the test mode fix on another computer first. Test mode is an obvious sign you did something you weren't supposed to do
You may have to run it a couple of times for it to fix test mode. You'll know when it works, after reboot you will see USB icons in the notification bar.
