[Q] Galaxy Ace s5830 does not detect USB - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Galaxy Ace here. When I connect my USB cable to the phone from the computer, the phone starts charging BUT doesn't recognise it's connected to the computer. (i.e. the USB connected does NOT show in the android notification bar.)
I have tried
power on/off,
cable unplug on both ends,
other computers,
factory reset 2 times
etc.
and all ended with the same result.
Seems like this is a problem with the phone. Any way I can fix this?

I just used it a while ago to transfer some music files like an SD card WITHOUT installing Kies..... it worked.
Now suddenly it's not showing the "USB Connected" notification in the Notification Bar anymore.

There's nothing wrong with enabling usb debugging so I don't understand the exclamation.
To OP, what is your rom? For bugs like that i'll normally wipe caches.

but there is no kies for linux...... i just used it a while ago on my Linux Ubuntu 11.04 without any Kies. And it worked just like an SD card. I transferred music, .apk files, documents etc.

I have problems with connecting to Ubuntu. It works sometimes and sometimes not. I don't have a solution.

What's the ROM that you're using ?

u didnt stated anywhere (until ur 6th post) that ur using linux. its a big difference u know. atleast if we know that ur using linux we wouldnt suggest installing kies. i think its just a missing driver problem. what distro ur using? btw my ace detected just fine on my fedora core 15 out of the box.

i don't think it actually has ANYTHING to do with the OS on my computer.
I have a linux and i have a MAC. Just one or two hours ago i used Simple USB plugging (by pressing on the USB Connected Notification that pops up on the phone's notification area) WITHOUT ANY INSTALLATION OF KIES, and I performed data transfer of music files and picture files in and out of the device... i have done that with BOTH the Mac and the Linux just an hour ago without installing Kies.
However, now the phone would not show the USB Connected notification on my android device when i plug in the USB...... neither in the Mac nor in the Linux. My phone is charging....... but my phone is not understanding that a bloody DATA cable is plugged in and it is connected with a PC (or a MAC or a Linux)
This should not be an issue of the computer OS...... neither be an issue of Kies since i DID do all these without kies just an hour ago in both the Mac and the linux. You do not require Kies for using your samsung phone simply as a SD card.

Just try:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
Don't always come to the conclusion that it has nothing to do with the OS , because in technical stuff anything is possible .

[Q] [NEED HELP] Samsung Galaxy S NOT Recognized by Windows 7

[FIXED] thanks guys
When I connect my Samsung Galaxy S, the computer doesn't do ANYTHING (it doesn't recognize that anything has been connected), and the SGS doesn't even recognize that it's connected to anything. All the phone does is charge...not even a notification drop down prompts me to enter USB mass storage or charge etc. I've factory reset the phone many times (plugged & unplugged), and nothing seems to fix it. I can't find my SGS in the Device manager to reinstall drivers either.
I am running Windows 7 64bit on a Sony Vaio, if that helps.
I've searched tons of sites & forums and none seems to have a working solution...Any ideas/fixes?
I think I found the problem I was having...I was using a Rocketfish CHARGING cable, and although it looks like a USB cable (it connects to the computer via usb), it does nothing but charge...so I took off the micro usb adapter that affixed onto the mini usb charging cable and re-affixed it onto a random mini usb cable I had lying around. And now it connects to the computer! I can now use all the other tutorials fixing the generic "usb driver not installed properly" problem.
UPDATE: I was following the tutorial on http://theunlockr.com/2009/12/02/how-to-root-the-samsung-behold-2-samsung-galaxy/ but when I get to the fastboot part, my phone won't boot into fastboot.... Can anyone help?
download 64-bit drivers here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
turn on usb-debugging mode in settings. you have to manually choose to mount the volume on the SGS every time you plug it in.
should work.
you need to either install KIES, or install the drivers included in the Android SDK

I got my phone to connect & be recognized by my computer, but I can't seem to get my phone into fastboot. Can anyone tell me which keys to press...?
I had the exact same problem. Googled and found a forum post somewhere with the following solution:
Turn off Galaxy S. Connect to pc by USB. Turn on Galaxy S.
...
Yeah.
Worked for me, anyway. Ever since I did that it's been working fine even if I connect it while it's turned on.
EDIT: Gah, didn't notice you had it solved already, thought the second post was from someone else. Oh well.

[Q] Galaxy Tab Issue

Not sure when it began but I am unable to connect my tab to any pc. I have tried 4 different ones. It just gives me the error message "usb device not recognized". I have the custom rom from overcome(the latest one) installed. I put the tab in download mode and the same issue remains. I turned on/off usb debugging and it still doesnt work. I even tried the *#7284#. That did not help either. Please help.
Hi..firstly, welcome to XDA Samsung Tablet Forum. I see you already register since Nov 10 but your post so far is only 2 post. So I'm consider you are still newbie (same like me
Anyway, back to your question.
Have you go to samsung webpage and download the kies?
http://www.samsung.com/my/support/d...WDXME&prd_mdl_name=GT-P1000&srchword=GT-P1000
Do that first, after install it, go to >>Tools>>Install driver. Click it.
make sure your tab is connected to your PC via USB.
After you click the install driver, kies will download the driver for you and it will automatically detect your USB tab.
please try.

Sounds like a fault with windows. Try running updates or use a registry cleaner/fixer see if that helps.
CCleaner has one.
[EDIT] Ah I misread, looks like you have tried other systems with same issue. Not sure then.
I'm assuming you're not using the same cable with all of them, otherwise you'd want to try a different cable. If you've tried the different cables between the different devices and still the same issue, you might roll one of them back to stock and see if that fixes the issue or not. It's possible you have bad usb ports, but more than likely it's a software issue on the tab.

How about the usb cable? Possibility is high due to cable itself. Since you using the same cable with all PC. You should try to change it.

Bad cable or bad tab. Borrow a cable to eliminate that.
Not sure, When i was reading instruction for how to update with overcome rom it said that if Odin doesnt recognise the tab try a different USB port.

run mini on pc without installing samsung usb drivers

hi everyone . i have question Is there any way to connect samsung mini to pc without installing bunch of samsung usb drivers? i heard once that there was software which comes for rooted phone that will make ur device that wont need usb drivers installed on pc!!.. im sick of this issue due to i just switched from nokia to samsung and this problem is annoying for me(and im sure for everyone). nokia didn't have this problem!! help someone.
You have to have some kind of drivers. Just download kies and install it, then try to connect your device and the drivers are installed. I saw windows downloading some drivers when I first connected it but idk...
Its one time installation and you don't need to do it again.
Edit: I'm sure nokia had drivers too. They were installed with the pc software.
Nokia supports plug n play on all platforms. But Android supports plug n play only in Linux as Android is Linux. To enable plug n play in windows u need adb(which u call drivers).. Isn't that simple to understand?
Not true. Plug and play doesn't mean that it doesn't need the drivers. Actually, my gf's nokia e75 took about 1.5 hours to install drivers, even after installing the pc platform. Point is, the pc needs them to communicate with your device. So, wait once for them to install, and then you are done gor as long that you use this pc, or this mobile device.
But, it might be usefull to install kies from the samsung website... It has a driver package with it. Could speed up the process

Do you want to transfer files between computers and your device?
Did you get a micro sd adapter with the phone?
If yes, buy some card reader and plug it in every computer you want.
install kies in ur pc and after finishing go to the installation directory and there u will find a folder named driver/usb driver.go to the folder and just preserve the file. u can now uninstall kies and from now on u will have to just install the driver file that u extracted from the kies. by this way mini will be connected to ur pc without kies installed.

Well probably u don't know. I won't give any explanation. For the mini to work directly on any pc, u can try pairing it with bluetooth if the pc has one or there is another way which I currently don't remember. Sony xperia phones does not need any drivers, they have an inbuilt app which does the work. If anyone could find out what that app is then the problem is solved. I think its something like 'sync'
Don't remember.

I connect my galaxy mini to any PC i want by turnin on the USB storage mode. We can Transfer files without any card reader or drivers. Only glitch is no access to contacts or inbox but who cares!
Here's how u do it, goto settings->applications->development->enable USB DEBUGGING
Then connect ya phone from data cable, u'll see a usb icon on notification bar click on it n TURN ON USB STORAGE
Simple right?!
P.S:If u don't see a USB icon in notification then enable usb debuggin once again from settings.

That app doesn't seem to support windows 7. My brother in law tried to port it to LG optimus, and to my galaxy mini, but it won't work proper. But, you can always trie to get an app that works with microsoft activesync. That's embedded within windows, so the drivers for that should be found and install fairly quick.

Hi mate, follow my method
PLUG IN your USB CABLE through behind of your CPU (do not jack your phone 1st)
goto SETTING-APPLICATION-DEVELOPMENT, and UNtick "USB DEBUGGING"
Jack on your USB CABLE, okay, now you will noticed "USB PROMPT" . slide down bar and choose USB DEBUGGING (copy files etc bla bla bla it says) and TURN ON USB STORAGE . you're DONE
http://www.4shared.com/get/RsWcxNuH/samsung_usb_driver_for_mobile_.html
Try this file if you don't wanna install Kies and still wanna connect your phone to pc....
install pdanet on pc and while doing steps on it you will need to connect your mobile to pc with debugging enabled and driver will be installed
Plug and play doesn't mean drivers are not there

Plug and play simply means that the drivers are automatically installed as soon as the device is connected.
There is not a single piece of hardware that "does not require drivers" to run as far as i can tell.
Drivers are always required, but u dont need to install them manually in case of plug and play devices.

Were you able to connect to Kies? I can't. I am not talking about USB mass storage mode, but I want to connect PC Kies with my phone and ever since LPY upgrade I can't. I have stock rom, no root and CWM or anything like that. The PC finds the device GT-N7000, and it works fine in explorer, but Kies can not connect to the phone. It stays in connecting and then it says that there was an error connecting to the device.
Anyone else with LPY that can not connect to Kies for PC?

I am also unable to connect to KIES since performing the ICS update ( via mobile Odin ). I tried USB debug on or off and also Wireless and Network settings different combinations... no go...
Waiting for ideas..
I have just updated Kies and apparently is working.
Date of update appears to be today, 14/05/2012, version 2.3.1.12044_18.
I only use kies to make backups and restore them, but this software is somewhat buggy.

After this I can connect via USB to Kies. Good luck!
I responded to an other thread here which has a similar situation as you have...
anyway, what you should do is completely uninstall kies.. when I say completely, I mean removing it thru the registries (of your computer), folders in Program files or Program files x 86... After removing it, reinstall it again, uncheck and recheck usb debugging in your Phone's settings.
Check if Kies will recognize your phone after... It may take a bit while.. but it will I'm sure, also unplug and re-plug your USB cable to different usb ports on your computer and check which one will automatically connect and detect with your phone.
If your using a PC, it's advisable you plug your phone at the back of your PC (where I think there's a USB port in there), it gives a much stronger signal than the one at the front of your tower or desktop.
Hope this helps...

[Q] Rooting w/o USB connection

Hi, guys! I have a really big problem :/. Right now I'm using the stock 2.3.4 gingerbread from LG ,but you all know that this is the worst OS ever. I wanted to get rid of it but i cant connect my device to the computer. It's only charging. I need a way to root it w/o usb connection. Do u have any suggestions? It's not a software problem! Something inside the phone is broken and i don't know what it is. Is there a way to root it via bluetooth or SD card? I didn't find any apps to root it too. I know gingerbreak etc, but they dont work for 2.3.4. Thank you in advance and i hope there is a solution. :fingers-crossed:
I am afraid you can't. Replacing your micro usb port could solve your problem. I reccomend to buy a micro usb port which is already on the flexible cable so you can avoid ironing.

So i'll need this? I asked a staff member in a service station and he said that the port isnt broken. So i need the whole thing port+flexible cable? Is that what i should do? Thanks alot. Ohh man i cant post links still: http:___//i.ebayimg.com/t/LG-G2X-Optimus-2X-P990-P999-Micro-USB-Charging-Port-Flex-Cable-Repair-Part-/00/s/OTU1WDE0MDI=/z/unUAAOxy9DRSAoTf/$T2eC16R,!wsE9suwycosBS!oTe7+VQ~~60_57.JPG
stupid question: did you try another usb cable or usb port?
Yeah, dude. Of course. I've tried different settings like usb debugging on/off too but still nothing.
here are some articles you might want to check out regarding usb connection

i forgot how the mass storage settings in gingerbread look like but there should be an option to put the phone in "charge only" mode (which you should disable)... pressing menu key in settings > storage doesn't give you any options to choose?
In gingerbread you can only turn usb mass storage and usb debugging on/off. These settings didn't help. I'll read more about the first link you gave me and try it out.

This is quite challenge, root without usb connection. First idea I got to use ADB over WiFi, but this is available from ICS, not on GB.
Second idea - what I remember, some of root methods use APK installation over ADB by script. Maybe you can search for these script methods and place all required files on SD Card. Then try to execute commands by terminal on device itself to install and root.
It's just my idea, maybe wrong, maybe help.

Yes that is what you need if you have to replace your USB port but you don't have skills to replace only the usb port.
You can try gingerbreak to root your phone, but it maybe won't work.

I'm not aware of ADB and scripting. Can you give me sоme guidelines?(I'm sorry 'bout my english. I hope you understand)
p.s. I found some info about ADB. So you need ADB to control your device via commands, but you can use ADB on your computer? You say that i have to find a way to use ADB on my phone so it controls itself and roots?

Yes, I've tried another pc's port and it didnt find my device too. My issue isn't the same i mean that my computer doesn' recognize the phone. There are no messeges that appear on the device or computer.

Guys, the problem is not in the computer nor in the cable, it's in the phone. I'm 99% sure that it's a hardware problem. So i need to find a way to root or flash it without using usb connection.
i'm somehow sure that the real problem here is the device driver installation on your PC/Windows, not the phone...
btw which windows version are you using?
did you try checking out the AIO tool thread?

if you read the 1st post, you might find out how could it help you... especially if you use win 8 which caused problems for many other users when trying to install the drivers or trying to flash the phone...
I - Install APX (NVFlash Recovery) Drivers if not already installed.
It starts the windows device driver wizard to help you install the drivers needed for NVFlash. It detects your system OS and gives additional on-screen instructions needed if your PC is running Windows 8.
FYI: The drivers are located under ToolKitFiles\nvflash\driver folder.

I use windows 8 from a week. Anything i've done before was on a xp/ win 7. The problem isnt in the win 8 i use now. I've tried everything on my xp laptop. I have a friend who has the same phone and he can connect it to his computer so everything is fine with his computer. I've tried to connect my optimus to his computer and again it wasnt found by the computer. The problem must be in my device.
I'll try installing the APX drivers.
