I lost my efs folder a while ago along with the IMEI, I just noticed recently that my IMEI number is written on a sticker @ the back of my GT, is there a way to recover IMEI and input that number in my GT? Note: my efs folder is empty now.
No, its gone for good, and it doesn't matter at this point.

How your IMEI number was lost ?
There are a few roms that can wipe your folders. When anyone gets a new phone, back up the efs folder and move the copy to a safe place.
My efs folder is empty but I can see my imei number in settings>status
Is my imei number is gone too?

It sounds like you are not rooted. The system files are hidden if you're not rooted

I think there is hope for you guys. I once had the same problem with my sgs2 and I searched everywhere... Until I found someone that send me a efs tar file... I told the guy it wouldn't work cause I tried everything... And I had to flash it with odin in the pda section... It totally solved the problem! I don't know where I found that guy but if you just search the net a bit longer, yoi could find it. Just search for efs tar file. It gives you another imei number so be carefull... It's forbidden in some countries...but yeah...
I also found some answers if I typed "baseband unknown galaxy note" in google. About somesort of tool...
Good luck!

Please, can I contact with you? I really need those files for fixing my phone...
You're original imei is specific to the phone and registered with Samsung and the network. If it's corrupted and you have no backup, there is no one who can restore it except samsung. You can create a new imei, but it's illegal and of no use at all. Don't get ripped off by people claiming they can restore your original imei, it's just not possible.

Have you tried flashing a 3 file gb firmware in odin? That always worked for me in the sgs1 days, if it does work get that efs folder backed up immediately

Read the post before yours. It's not possible to do it because of the unique IMEI. If you do not have your old one (written on a sticker inside your device) then there will be not solution.
Have any of you restored a Captivate's EFS folder with another phones file to fix network/IMEI problems? if so did it work?
I don't have a backup of the EFS folder (didn't know it even existed), did a factory reset (after a couple of months of having the stock 2.3.5 flashed) and suddenly I can't connect to my network provider (no phone calls/txt/3g).
I read different forums stating that I need to restore the nv_data.bin file to get the product code back (it's mostly ceros product code on 0188008 Not Active) and my IMEI is also screwed up.
I changed the product code and it apparently stayed changed, but the entirety of the file seems corrupt comparing to the videos of how to modify it and IMEI is still the fake one.
I would appreciate if I could get a backup of the EFS folder to modify to my phone if at all possible (I'm NOT on ATT nor in the US for that matter) sending it back for repairs is sadly not an option.
Trying to modify an existing file seems like my last shot to fixing my phone =( please help =D
U are out of luck, nvdata from other phones will not repair it there are only 2 option's
1. If u can find someone who can repair the NV_DATA.BIN
2. You can find a repair guy with the Z3X box.
Edit- OP if u want a fresh NV_DATA file just PM me ur email address i can mail u a copy.
I'm assuming you've tried the steps in this post?
Even if you don't have a functional EFS folder, just follow the steps as if you did. It might be worth a shot.
@jmtheiss I have question regarding the above procedure..
I tried the above with a corrupted nv file but the step mentioned in the thread aren't they are just for the product code ?
00188008|2e|34|00|00|00|00|ff|41|.4....A
00188010|54|54|00|00|00|00|53|47|TT....SG
00188018|48|2d|49|38|39|37|5a|4b|H-I897ZK
00188020|41|41|54|54|00|00|00|00|AATT....
If I'm reading the thread correctly, rebuilding the nv_data.bin file with the proper values should repopulate the /efs folder with the correct and necessary files.
It's possible this may run into a hiccup because you're not connecting to AT&T, but in theory, it should fix your problem.
Also, it appears that other people had good results by flashing to stock first, then trying this. It looks like the stock flash reset the IMEI, and then doing this fixed the product code issue.
Thanks for replying,
I treid every thing that i was able to find to repair the NV_DATA but apart from some links to XDA there is not enough knowledge how to repair it.
I tried every possible method to repair the imei, i have more the 25 backups of different NV_DATA files with me and over the time i had looked it to every possible file and treid to compare them with each other and they all look the same to me if we look into them with the help of a HEX editor.
I tried to change the files with 2 different phones and changing them with will give u imei code >004999010640000 but u cannot not repair it with anything.
I treid this with the phone with 2.1 update 1, 2.2 and 2.3.3 but what ever they will not work.
But after some research i found that the most of the guys who repairs the imei they use the Z3X/SPT for it and that is how i did it and its was recently some 6 days back.
I am still trying to find out how (if) you can manually repair the corrupted NV ?
You can contact connexion2005 in my sig. He does IMEI repairs for a fee. But it is worth it. he is a good person and doesn't cheat people out of money!
EDIT- Don't ask people for their EFS folders.... That is sorta really stupid.

I'm a recent customer and I was very pleased with his service. 1 week total and everything is back to normal. I have backed up this new EFS to MULTIPLE places.
sorry for the no reply, I contacted conexion, waiting for his reply.
I know asking for the efs folder is not bright, but it was my only and last shot. I triead all other threads and was able to change it to what they mention, add product code and everything magically gets fixed... but it saved the product code and the file and imei stayed pretty much the same, so I'm guessing that doesn't work =(
thanks for your replies all! appreciate the support

Use Odin or Heimdall to flash to Stock KK4 Gingerbread. That has proven to restore imei #'s for some.

Very useful guide bro Great :good:
The odin thing works for me, but if i install the rom, imei goes again. I downloaded hex editor. Took backup with galaxy toolbox. Copied the backup to pc. Opened it with hex editor. Typed 0x80000. Then surprisingly, my imei is already there. There is no need for me to type it. But when i save and restore, there is no imei again. What's going wrong?

Hi Hitesh,
Thanks for your reply in other thread and pointing me here.
As listed in my question, I have tried suggestion 1 - After flashing [ROM] TouchWiz-Resurrection V9.5 [08/03/2014] , which I lost IMEI. Then I flashed kernel
[DEV][KERNEL][2.6.35.7] ThunderKernel 2.2 [UPDATE 10/07/2014]
Still no IMEI.
Method 3, hex editor does not work. .save file in Galaxy backup already has correct IMEI but phone still does not show IMEI.
Is there any other Kernel you recommend? I tried Rafael kernal 2.6.35-7 also but this bricked the phone so had to remove it.
I solved my issue by flashing kernel again...see...

Thunder kernel wont boot with these rom so go for Rafael's.
I am setting up the Ace I of my niece. I came from the latest Italian stock ROM, after messing up with CM11 Aug 30 (which gets stuck at boot). So I re-flashed the stock ROM with ODIN, installed Raf kernel (w/o modules) and I lost the IMEI: Installed the modules still no IMEI. Now I just installed the Thunderbolt "stock" kernel and the IMEI reappeared.
It must be noticed that Galaxy Tool with Raf kernel did show the IMEI in both the UI "show device" option and in the EFS file (and so there was no way to edit it). It was just the kernel unable to read it.
I tried to edit IMEI for my Galaxy Note 3(Tmobile N900T).
The thing is , I back up the efs with EFS IMEI backup ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.efs&hl=en ). It generates img, tar or tar.gz file. I chose img to edit.... when I search 0x80000 in Hex workshop, that line has a different title 0007FFE9 and doesn't have the IMEI info, there are 00 and FF.......
So what should I do to find my IMEI?

I had a official Rom 4.4.4 with my samsung korean phone before, i flashed a custom rom then my IMEI-Null, Basband-UNKNOWN, No network. So i try to make it back, i flashed so many patch files according to tutorials on internet. finally my phone bricked i think. i couldnt open even custom recovery. Samsung kies didnt help too, how ever i could open download mode, So i flashed latest korean offical Rom" E210SKSUKNI3_E210SSKTKNI3_E210SKSUKNI3_HOME.tar.md5" using odin. so again i could switch on my phone, then i found my shv-e210s IMEI has changed to new one.my phone back side imei is another one and its original imei. when i insert SIM it show" no service" and network "Unknown" , when i remove SIM it show " limited service" and i can make emgency call simple, and it show some local network providers names, its mean my phone get signals without SIM card and can make emergency calls. Can anyone suggest a method to solve this . if this imei changed by flash files, so it should able to change back to original by another file right?

If they did that your phone would be using their phone's IMEI, as that is stored in the EFS partition.
Instead, I would recommend searching for a repair guide as I have run across those, and they will help you fix your own EFS and restore the phone's true IMEI so there's no funny business going on. I can use my Google-Fu skills for you after work if you are not able to find what you need on your own.

Lol didn't think of that!
Perhaps the person can alter their file and remove their IMEI number or make it all 9s.
He can open the file and edit it with his real IMEI (assuming he has his box or the real number written somewhere)

That absolutely makes sense!
When shopping for mine, I noticed some of these V40s have their IMEI #s printed on the back.
Would be very silly (and lucky) if the O.P lucked out, had an IMEI printed on the bottom and overlooked it.
Otherwise, I'm wondering if he can somehow talk with someone at his phone provider tech support and see if they can share the number of the last phone that connected to their service.
Pretty sure if he catches the right person, they may share his V40's IMEI after he successfully identifies himself

I had this problem back in the LG G2 days, had trouble with my EFS too but was able to recover. Sounds like something is off and is not coming through from your EFS backup.
If you search my screen name you'll find an old thread I made about it from years ago. Hopefully the steps will be similar and can be helpful to you.
