[Q] Q- long custom rom load time - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, ok my rom i want takes along time to start...
story time: i flashed my phone, rooted it, got xrecovery, busybox, oi file manager, root explorer. i used to run froyobread. i decided to change to gingerdx, but it seemed to take along time to change, so i went back to my backup which was the orginal...
now today i tried again and both roms seem to take more then 15minutes to load.. am i doing something wrong? model and version are the latest.

Did you do a full wipe? It's really important!

that might be why.. i thought that installing a rom might full wipe.. i must be wrong...

sorry it was the full wipe i forgot, TY very much i am an idiot...

[Q] Some hero rooting/rom questions.

Ok so this is my first post here, and I'm sort of a noob so I'm sorry if these questions are too noobish...
First, I rooted my HTC hero last night, but I tried to install the rom (fresh 2.3.3) before wiping so I got stuck in this perpetual loop of the startup screen, had to wait until the phone ran out of battery and then did a wipe of data/ext and rebooted. Everything worked fine from there, and it seems to be working normally, BUT I'm wondering if this means everything installed correctly, or if I should just go through the process again.
Second, when I connect my phone to the computer I notice that I have the .zip of the image still in my phone's root. Can I delete this or is it necessary for the phone's function?
Third, are there any other roms people would suggest? I like vanilla android (not a sense fan), and I heard of a rom called Darchdroid. I was wondering how this stacks up to fresh 2.3.3...I'm looking for the smoothest experience possible (not a fan of the minor lag that happens in fresh)
And fourth, if I decide I want to get rid of Fresh and try a new rom, what is the procedure for wiping my phone clean and installing the new rom? (sorta noobish I know...)

a bit noobish myself, but I think I can answer a bit regardless, anyone feel free to correct me...
1: if everything is working, great! if you dont feel comfortable, and dont mind resetting everything up, go ahead, do it again, cant hurt. whenever reflashing/new flashing, Dont Forget to make a nandroid and wipe! (and you can rename the backups in USB disk mode so you know which ones are what, otherwise go by the embedded date in the autogen'd title. in the nandroid folder on your SD card btw)
2: as far as I know, leave it?
3: HUGE fan of Darchs work, cant go wrong... keep in mind it does not have VisVoicemail in it, fix flash needed.
4: reboot into recovery, make a nadroid backup, WIPE!, flash the new one according to cookers intructions! done! (if ya dont like it, buggy, nandroid restore back to your last good one you did like!)
well I reinstalled the rom and wiped first...and everything is running way smoother than last time. I don't know what in the world happened or what was going on but I'll take it as it is

New to all of this - which ROM do i get?

As the title says, I have had a Xperia X8 for just over a week now and tried to update it (it was 2.1) but the phone kept saying it was the latest, even though I found there to be newer versions on google.
Anyway I have managed to Root my phone, installed xRecovery and Root Explorer. I have backed up the files from xRecovery boot menu, and copied these onto my Windows PC.
I think that is all I needed to do, now I need to install a new update rom but which one? I downloaded from the first post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486# v012 GingerDX, but the file is only 85mb or something, the default ROM i backed up was nearly 350mb!
Please help me, which is the latest ROM to get there seems to be so many and could you please post a link
Thanks
so what...
did you read the all the description?
less apps=less space
other android version=different file size
and i think that it is not the whole rom... just something like a patch...
you people have to read first and then ask...
Before you do anything, what version of android are you on and with what does your baseband end with (last 3 numbers)?

You're good to go. Place GDX in your SD card (but not inside any folders). Boot in xRecovery, install custom zip, select GDX, make a full wipe and reboot. Before you do that, backup your contacts, apps etc. Good luck!
@DarkThanos
It is the whole ROM. There is no patch.
Thank you Chris I will try that
Ok, I got GDX installed, it hung at the load screen but that was because I forgot to wipe it. Then I did the Full Wipe from the xRecovery boot menu and it has loaded on
Will play around with it now, thank you
GingerDX is not as big as a Nandroid backuo, because it contains only the system folder, and it´s a .zip-file, so it´s compressed.

[Q] another which rom thread

hello
im on 2.3.6 now and fancy a change because when i click phone or messages it keeps closing and its starting to do my head in.
which rom should i go for?
could you guys point me in the direction of a good guide were i can flash with odin.
iv flashed both my phones a few times but im still a noob
thanks guys/girls
CyanogenMod (7) was fairly simple to flash and it was my first rom on the phone. I'm currently on Team ICSSGS' rom -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1398223
The latest release was pulled pending wifi fixes, but I'm using it and it's working great for me.
Just need to be rooted and running CWM to flash it.
was looking at that before
ill wait till they fix it and put it back up
how do i flash it.
i dont have a clue i only know how to use odin. and to be honest i think my 3 year old son could work it lol
does anyone know a good rom that i can flash with odin no messingvaround that looks something like this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460786&highlight=2+3+6
just looking for something a little different but stalble as well
I think for the majority of the roms now you need to be rooted and have CWM installed. CM7 is a very nice rom, and not hard to install. It runs 2.3.7 iirc, and worked great for me.
Wiki for installing:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
i flashed my phone with another rom but didnt like it so i flashed it back to the value pack 2.3.6 jvu and then rooted it with this http://www.androidauthority.com/root-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-android-2-3-6-xxjvu-48441/
but i cant uninstall all the stock apps with super manager app. last time i flashed it i could do it. but didnt use that guild and cant find it now.
so as its not rooted i cant flash with the one you have mentioned
is jvz better?
I never ran 2.3.6, I went right from a stock update at 2.3.1 (iirc) to the 2.3.7 in CM7. You should just install CWM using Odin, do a full backup using Titanium Backup and a Nandroid backup in CWM. Then flash anything you want to try.
Also, for backing up contacts, I've read not to use Titanium, use an SMS/Contacts Backup... Titanium has worked for me though.
Not bothered about backing my stuff up. only need my contacts there on kies
might try a flash with clocks recovery when i get home.
i like the rom im on but i doont have full root access as i cant delete atock apps like i could before. i need to delete them to change file format to exr4. says i dont have room if i don't delete them
I all ready have cwm so do.i.just download the cm7 zip file and extract it on my internal memory card then reboot into cwm and flash
Oops double post
Flashed it but it runs really really skow looks good tho.
search continues ha ha
Kies still connects to your phone with custom roms and such? I was lucky if it worked with the stock firmwares.
Did you do a full data wipe? CM7 ran pretty quick on my phone. Maybe try SetCPU to speed things up a little.
Titanium with root access can remove stock apps too.
ye i did a full wipe.
i tried clocking it to 1200 and still ran slow.
ICS ran a little slow as well.
flashed a few now with cwm getting quite addictive.
would like to try a few more but mega uploads comes up with some security thing saying its been removed blah blah blah
MegaUpload was shut down a little while ago now. Should be lots of Roms listed in the forums here, with active downloads I would hope.

[Q] Please don't ban me or yell at me! Problem with root on galaxy s I9000 2.3.5

Hi all.
Really sorry cos I'm sure the answer's around here somewhere, but not sure where to look.
Problem is, I had my 2.3.5 rooted and all was ok. I then had a problem a while back with Titanium (paid) backup that said that I wasn't rooted.
I've tried re-rooting and that didn't work, so now I've done a factory reset, cleared the dalvik cache.
CWM is still installed but nothing works on there. Can't install busybox.
Just want to take it all back to fresh and root the phone with the fastest ROM possible.
Like I say, I've looked all over here and various forums but can't find an answer to my specific problem(s).
PLEASE HELP!
Thanks

use this link to get a JVU based rom on your SGS.. it'll be rooted with CWM recovery and stuff.. after that you can choose to flash any rom on your SGS.. just follow the instructions in the op of the rom you choose..
Thanks Ishangoyal..
Just to reiterate, I can just install this on top of the phone as it is not and it'll work?
I would highly recommend this tutorial instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379650
It allows you to upgrade to ICS.
You're a diamond - it's done! saved my phone from being stamped on! ;-)
download super user from market.

[Q] Just want a phone that works :(

So I bought a Samsung Galaxy S from ebay, which had been rooted, and is currently running Jelly Bean with apex launcher.
I have had so many problems and had to flash the new rom on it countless times now and I'm sick of losing everything every time and never trusting my phone. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong?
I had a notification for an update for Apex Launcher a couple of days ago through the play store, so I updated it. It then would kept failing, and telling me "Apex Launcher is not responding". It wouldn't even respond long enough for me to turn it off normally... I had to take the battery out in order to turn the power off.
This was not the first time Apex had crashed on me so I thought I'd download Go Launcher instead. It all seemed fine, however it started to randomly rearrange all my icons and then wouldn't let me customise it at all - couldn't add new app shortcuts, widgets, or rearrange anything whatsoever.
I decided to factory reset and wipe the caches etc and flash the original rom on it for now, but not sure if I should try and remove Apex somehow and use something else or if it's the rom I'm using or what?!
Would anyone be able to help??
sorry forgot to mention that I am almost a complete noob at this and flashing a new rom is about the only thing I can do, I have no idea what all the different roms are etc I just flash the one that was already saved on the memory card that came with the phone!

downlaod a more stable ro(cm9 maybe or ics rom,I dont know because I dont have i9000 but i9001),just go to i9000 android development and download a rom. Then install it in recovery but before installing wipe everything(data, cache and dalvik),u will see that in how to install section.Just follow the instructions
Hey,
Start from the beginning.
Download JVZ or JPU rom (Gingerbread of Froyo), flash via Odin. It is really simple. Root it and install CWM.
Next Download pure CM10, install it via CWM. Only the your system will be clean and fresh.
Hey
If u hav I9000 then downgrade to 2.3.6(link given below..)..that should solve ur issues..
