help with rooting 2.3.4 - Droid Incredible Android Development

So i got a replacement phone yesterday and it came with 2.3.4 on it. I tried to use unrevoked but it said failed cuz my firmware is to new. How do i root this? do i need to downgrade to 2.2? if so can someone tell me how. is it just a simple ruu flash?

Wrong section.
If you're S-ON then you're screwed, if you're S-OFF then you can root.
Edit: Searching yields results lol... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269550

Not until someone finds out a root exploit. Until then, you can't root.

Yeah, and they can do that. The DInc wasn't released as a rooted phone, that's where the likes of Unrevoked/AlphaRev come in. They'll have to update their methods for the DInc, and I'm guessing that'll be with their tool named Revolutionary.
You may not be able to use the 2.2 RUU to get back to 2.2 stock. You can try it, but that may screw up your replacement too...? Unrevoked/AlphaRev have been working on the newer phones that've been released lately, so the time table for anything from them is unknown, if they even update to root the DInc 2.3 at all.

The first thought that came to me was why didn't just friggin root your phone weeks ago instead of waiting for this crap. please is there any way to go to 1.5? and no my lazy azz didn't back up 1.5. Or can the sprint android 2.1 be rooted yet? HELP

Are you saying you used the Sprint RUU?
If so, no you're stuck with it until or unless they figure out how to root it.
there is a subforum for this. it's called hero QUESTIONS and ANSWERS. I'm sorry, but is it really that hard? Sheesh!
It can't be rooted yet. You're stuck for a while
lmao...sorry buddy you've jumped the gun to quick. Its was mentioned million's of time, if you run the ruu from sprint you will never return to root access.Your stuccccccccccccccck unless something happens

That doesn't work on the new 2.1 release if I'm not mistaken.

okay I recently got my phone and upgraded to 2.1 from the sprint website before I learned what rooting was. I don't want to do anything fancy I just want to get rid of the pre-installed apps that I don't need so the phone will run faster, is there a way to get this done now?

No, sorry, you're SOL until a root exploit is found.
well I just downloaded qpst and it has this option to backup restore image could I use the image off of my other phone With root and place it on my phone without root?

So rooted froyo has ota update?

so I've been playing around with my aria for a couple of weeks and turned my nexus back on thats rooted and sure enough I have an ota update available for android 2.2, which I already have on the phone.. possibly stupid question, if I update will I lose my root even though I did it bootloader method?
and I thought custom roms even if its stock didn't get ota's

Thanks for the link, it helped me, too.
You guys preaching to search (which I'm not against), I just wanted to point out that you linked to an entirely different site. Thus, had the OP searched *this* site, by your own admission, he/she might not have found what he/she was looking for. Interesting...
My 2 cents here...I had a rooted nexus one froyo 83b WITH a custom recovery.. which supposes to block the frf91 update..n guess what it didn't..my nexus rebooted..it didn't even reboot to recovery it just did a soft reset n when I it back on it had frf91 with no root access..so I'm like wtf?? So I tried to reboot to the custom recovery and yes..you guys guessed with...it went back to the original recovery...

Gotta agree, dont be lazy. Use the search like you should.
I just got an update notification also, and I'm rooted. I let it reboot/install but it showed an error. It was probably frf91.
ladies, congratulations on the update and re-rooting. i'm glad to hear that it worked out for yall.

[Q] Going back to 2.1 from 2.2 on Captivate

I updated to the unofficial 2.2 for the samsung Captivate but an un happy with it currently there are too many issues with it like vibrate not working for notification and that alot of the features are not working anymore.
i would like to know if someone has the steps on how to rollback to 2.1 on my phone.

is there another way or should i just stick it out with the 2.2 build?
As far as I know, there is no other way.

No one can tell you if you should stick it out or not. It could be that there is no direct upgrade bath from this beta build either.
Only you can decide if the negatives of 2.2 justify rolling back to 2.1. I rolled back I am happy I did.
so i just did the restore following those instructions and it worked great thanks again for all the help!

I recently had to roll back from 2.2 to 2.1 as well. Once my battery died, I kept getting com.android.phone force closures, essentially my phone useless.
BTW, I too used the 1-click to go back to stock, then restored the JH7 nandroid image I made before going to 2.2. Worked like a champ!!
My phone is unlocked on 2.2 cognition. If I go back to 2.1 will it relock? Can I get the unlock code again?
I one clicked to jh7 and it didn't lock for me. That isn't really an indicator that you should just go ahead and one click back. There seems to be quite a bit of randomness to this platform.
I would assume that if you do go back, then getting your unlock code should be possible again, because its just a file that should exist again when back on 2.1.

Same reason I went back. Froyo was nice but too many "oopsies" for me. I'll wait until AT&T butchers it and then DG puts a new cognition rom out!
I am kind of thinking of doing this too. I like 2.2. But I went to it just a few days after getting my phone and I have a lot to learn. Thinking of going back to 2.1 so I can play more with the phone. I like a lot what voodoo can do. I do not have that with 2.2.

May as well start looking for a root exploit for JB. I

I managed to lose it during the update, i thought i did it right, but the results say otherwise.....

I don't think many people are going to try and look for a new root method. Its been stated a thousand times on here how to RETAIN root. If you didn't follow those directions then you're not gonna find much sympathy.
BTW, is there a way to go back to ICS from JB 2nd leak ?
I have root if that matters.

Root method would be awesome! After a few hours of the update failing, I got fed up and decided to flash factory, and update without root (and yes I followed all of Matt's instructions to a T).
