Unfortunately, Dell will not be offering the update for customers locked to T-Mobile in the U.S. With each software update, the requirements for offering the update vary by carrier, region and device, and Dell has decided to not offer this update to T-Mobile customers in the United States.

If that certain build requires rooting, it won't help.
On the phone with Dell Mobility as I type this. I'm not going to stand for this, and neither should any other tmobile streak owners. They will be sending me a wifi only, or refunding me my money. Will post an update when something is resolved. Be it good or bad.
Yea that's not gonna happen, as tmo stopped selling s7's long before dell made any announcements of HC.
You're just as likely to be able to get them to refund EVERY s7 because it's unlikely to recieve ICS when it comes out.
This is bull****!! We pay MORE for the 4G model, and now we get screwed by Dell, just because THEY decide that THEY don't want to offer it to us!!!
Dell never mentioned offering HC on any of the packages/information when it was available.
The only time it will is on the newest ones that come with it pre-installed.
Carrier devices ALWAYS recieve updates slower/last on virtually ALL android devices.

It sucks, but they never officially promised HC. We bought the device as a 2.2, and so we got what we were told we were getting. The Wi-Fi's were occasionally advertised as OTA HC coming, but the 4G never was.
I definitely would never buy or use anything from T-Mobile or Dell again, but other than being a poor customer retention experience, we got what we paid for.
Been waiting for 3.2 on the streak 7 so I could sell it, this sucks having the T-mobile version. Love my Asus Transformer better than this paperweight. I am pissed, calling T-mobile shortly.

Let us know how your call goes with T-Mobile. Other than being unhappy with getting exactly what we paid for, I don't see that they have to or will do anything.
Seeing as it is still warranteed, I want to see if Dell will swap it out with WiFi model and cancel T-Mobile data plan.

lazy b4sta4rds!, they could have kept the same 4g modem info and added to wi-fi version..even if T-mobile was uninterested in paying, they could have easily made a 4G HC update for this device. Must be all about the money..
Not to worried, Not like I would have even used the damn thing or even downloaded the update for that matter..
Just would have liked official 4G firmware for DJSteve HS ROM's. Im sure the Dj's next update will support 4G somehow, so Im not too concerned..
...last damn dell thing I buy in a long time.. thats for sure..
I would post on the dell community page too, but cant seem to register as their signup page is b0rked in my IE browser @ work on XP.

So the next question is, how do I get my hands on one of djsteve's roms? I assume that is the best way to go?
Neither company really cares. Dell is getting out of the mobility business all together (they stated just today that there would be no more Windows Phone's from them) and T-Mobile will either be taken over by AT&T or go belly up according to their parent company.
Either way, in their eyes, there is no compelling business reason to offer HC on the 4G Streak 7.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the T-Mobile ROM was quite different from the Wifi ROM. Probably not that different under the hood, but was branded, some tweaks etc..
So in that case, it's not as if Dell can push out updates to T-Mobile devices. T-Mobile would have to take the Dell HC update, do whatever it wants to, then make that available. It's the same with every branded carrier device, they don't want their customers de-branding it. If anyone is to blame here, it's T-Mobile.
This is why branding should be abstracted from the base. Not in the framework etc, but rather at a "theme" level. Custom installed apps, sure, whatever. But don't make deep changes.
Its all about the money, and , screw the end user.. They dont care about us or the device they created.. ugghh... Dell trys to be "people" oriented but this behavior disgusts me.

Sprint's changing their pricing in April, so I'm jumping bandwagon to Verizon. Hopefully I wont have to wait long after I cancel with them to get a Bionic.
Anyways, something that's been haunting my curiosity is, will the 4G LTE be a switch on the phone, or will it automatically switch to 4G when it's available?
Thanks in advance,
Overstew
P.S. If you have a source, that'd be nice, too.
It's gonna kick onto 4g where ever you get the coverage. No button pushing or switches.
And you'll probably pay extra for 4G even if you can't get it in your area. Nothing like the crappy cell carriers forcing you to pay for something you can't even use.

i dont understand why the thunderbolt is getting so much more notice than the bionic... they're both set to release within a couple months of each other, but tbolt has piss poor specs, 1300mahz battery? really?
what's so bad about motorola that folks rather get a phone that's outdated spec wise?

HTC is know for their generally hackable devices...Motorola has been heading in the opposite direction, and it is very possible that even though the Xoom was unlocked they may decide to lock the Bionic.
I am seriously considering a Xoom...but I am waiting and if someone can root and flash the Bionic then I will possibily get one, but unless this tech material fiasco taking place gets worse I expect something better to be releasing about the same time as the Bionic.
Something yet unannounced maybe who knows, but it would have to outspec the Bionic... > and the way this game is played, there is always something just a little better just around the corner.

Does anyone here have or know someone who has the Thunderbolt? If so, what does the contract say about Verizon being able to to adjust your monthly rate? Or is it locked in?
Thanks
I traded in my Atrix for the thunderbolt.
I am on a family plan and the cost of the plan is the same as it was for my Dinc.
Unlimited data (soft capped still) and no special fees for 4g.
My other line has an upgrade in april i am saving for the Bionic. It will be locked down like the atrix - but the atrix is by far still the best phone i have ever used - just at&t network is atrocioius!
yes... well it took a little extra effort to unlock the tbolt... just as with the droidX I would guess the bionic will also get unlocked and rooted.. as for the OP I have not seen anything on the 4g modem for the bionic but I owned the tbolt and it does all the switching for you... infact that may have been the problem with the battery life...
I think there is at least two apps that allow you to manually turn on/off the lte modem though.

I appreciated the post, but I thought it deserved a wider audience. A lot of us 4G owners want to upgrade. I would prefer OTA direct rather than manually.

October 5th, Friday? What world is the rep from?
No word on 4G
I haven't heard of the 4G updated for Oct 7th but only for the Wifi. Speculation is that 4G isn't part of the update due to TMob not being able to support update. However we shall see.
That's still the most current news. No HC update for the US version of the TMobile 4G Dell Streak 7. It's important to remember this is T-Mobile's decision not Dell's.
Here's to hoping that wrong.

I jus got off the phone with tmobile and According to a tmobile rep he informed me that as long as dell sends them the update they dont see the issue in giving us 4g streak users the hc update. He also stated that dell is in control of sending out the update tmobile has no control over it so if last night i spoke to a dell rep and he stated that 4g should get the update on friday and tmobile said as soon as dell releases the update to them they will send it to all 4g streaks via ota i dont see why we wouldnt get it. Yes, I updated the title. Sorry guys, bad typing on my streak keyboard.
I am ready for a proper HC update, even with some of the negative review from the other OTAs pushed out so far.
For me, the DS7 will have more longevity then my phone. It's. Already faux-G, and I use it for vastly different reasons than my DInc.

I knew Big Red would find a way eventually, didn't think it would have been this soon.
For now it is only those on 3G with 3G phones but everyone else will soon follow. Sprint is looking good about now.
Quite sad of what Big Red is doing. Looks like ATT is my next best choice for coverage since T-Mobile still has 2G in my area and Sprint has 3G and ATT has 4G also.
This makes the news yesterday about Google possibly selling unlocked "Nexus" devices in the Play Store all the more interesting. Then pick your carrier. I see a possible loophole if by some miracle there are CDMA/LTE Nexus devices I will never have to re-up my contract. That looks how to be only way to keep unlimited at this point is never renewing or upgrading phone through Verizon once they have this bullsh*t program in full swing.

Damn.. just looked at the Play Store and didn't know they would have that up so fast. BUT the good news is they are going to have Nexus phones and tablets about 5 different NEW devices and not just Motorola so I will have to keep an eye out. My contract isn't over with til 2013 anyways. Hoping by then for a 4.3-4.5" Motorola Droid 5 or variant with full QWERTY which is my dream phone right now. I cannot go to a 4.0" phone after 4.3" but I miss the physical QWERTY of my D1.

Mine isn't over till Summer of 2013 but I was planning on stealing one of my family members upgrade plans since they have one this coming November which is exactly the time when the new Nexus phones come out but I'll have to see if me and my family stick around with Verizon until then. Also, the Droid 4 has a physical qwerty keyboard which I'm not sure how people can use a physical keyboard (I had a physical keyboard before this phone) and I've messed around on the physical keyboard and It feels so weird to even type on it when I use to be able to type paragraphs in seconds on that phone without even looking at the keyboard.

If I lose my unlimited, I'm going to leave Verizon and go to some bootleg company like Boost. I hate Sprint so will never go back to them.

Interesting article
Thanks for the article; it will be interesting to see if Verizon does indeed follow through with eliminating the grandfathering of unlimited data plan. This is one of the features my wife and I both love.
I went to Verizon yesterday and the guy said he's heard about it but he's never gotten any official thing that he said if it is implemented it'll be at the end of the year or somewhere around there.
This whole thing is weird to me...
We have US Cellular out here, and if they can get a few more phone options I may just go with them. Everyone I talk to says they are a breeze to deal with and the network is good enough to work with.
I am currently with AT&T using the Note 2. I pre-ordered the unlocked T-Mobile version at Negrielectronics because of the previously inabilitity to root the AT&T Note 3.
However, now that the AT&T Note 3 version is rootable, is it still a good idea to buy the T-Mobile version and use it on AT&T network for LTE ?
I am buying a phone off contract an at a full price. I don't want to be in any contract.
I still have time to cancel the Negrielectronics pre-order. What should be your advice? Thanks.
The dilemma is which is better: AT&T Note 3 (rootable) or Unlocked T-Mobile Note 3? ....using AT&T network.
Price is not a factor.
I'd go with with the AT&T version because their devices have priority on the network, and tmo may do the same but I don't know much about tmo. Yes people will get mad when they see that if they bought a tmo device and argue with you. Others will go with tmo just because of the unlocked bootloader. I'm pretty sure somebody will figure it out on AT&T soon enough. If they don't then that's the downside of buying an AT&T device. Bottom line is if you rely on your phone for day to day communications I personally would recommend an AT&T device because of the support they will give you. If you think your good enough to support it all on your own grab a tmo device. I probably would have done that if I had a second chance. I'm not going through the hassle of returning this one though.

I keep seeing this statement in places, but it doesn't seem like it would be legal or even worth it to do this. You pay AT&T for service, and their profit comes from the service, not the hardware. Why would they even bother to prioritize traffic based on IMEI? The average consumer wouldn't even notice. It would only noticeably impact an extremely small segment of their user base, and the extra infrastructure to punish 0.05% of their user base seems ridiculous. If there's hard proof of this practice, I'd love to see it.
If you call them and talk to a tier 3 tech they will tell you. That's how I found out.

Well I disagree. Having been an ATT customer forever they are slow to release updates and upgrades to the OS. The big thing is the Unlocked Bootloader. Thats what makes the TMO unit much better. You can us International ROM's and the developers are supporting the Int and the TMO unit, my ATT SG4 had very limited support do to working around the Locked Bootloader. With the history of the ATT SG4 being locked and the developers that were not happy I would not get the ATT if I were paying full price. I could take the upgrade at ATT and I still choose to go TMO because I love to flash.

Techs are often wrong and/or totally full of it in the name of getting the customer off the phone. I don't really consider this to be a reliable source. I'm also certain that if this was an official policy, it would need to be in writing somewhere. I've been through all of the terms I can find and haven't found any mention of discrimination against phones from other networks. It still doesn't make sense anyways. They should be happy for the service business, since that's where they make all their money anyways.
It's not discriminating really, its AT&T taking care of thier own before anything else. I'm sure it's an internal document so you won't see it. I'm not the only one on the forum that's mentioned that before (you can use the search function on the forums and google) and usually tier 3 knows their crap. They are very experienced techs.
Also it's not illegal to unlock your bootloader or do anything to your phone other than SIM unlock it without carrier permission.

I've seen it mentioned before, but as with most forums, 5% of the posters are knowledgeable, 75% are parroting something they read someplace else, and the other 20% are just trolls. It would be great to have some actual proof that this occurs. I have two Note 3s, one from AT&T and one from T-Mobile, and if I use the same sim card, the speedtests are basically the same. They're definitely both inside the typical range for my home, though I realize this is anecdotal.
It would be discrimination if I signed up for service for AT&T and brought my own phone and they failed to disclose to me that I would be getting slower service due to bringing my own hardware. I'm guessing it probably wouldn't be legal, either. At the least, it's incredibly unethical. AT&T makes the money off the service, not the phones, so their interest in taking care of their own includes every subscriber regardless of hardware. Do you think they de-prioritize iPad traffic if you didn't buy your iPad in their store? Incredibly unlikely.

So are you saying that the LTE speed using an unlocked T-mobile phone is slower than if I use the at&t Note 3?
I never once said anything about slower speed. I'm assuming the guy a couple post up doesn't know about network prioritization. You can even do this on some home routers.
When the network is congested it will favor ATT devices over others. It will favor an ATT iPad over others. It doesn't matter where you buy it as long as it's an ATT variant of the device.
Also I'm not sure if that one guy is implying I'm trolling or not but if he is then I assume he finds his answer elsewhere. I donate way to much time and money to this place to be considered a troller, not to mention I have a degree in cyber defense. If not please disregard this message.

Just yesterday, things were simplier because there was no root cabability for the AT&T Note 3 and I was happy to just pre-order the unlocked note 3 t-mobile version from Negri. Now things just got more complex in my buying decision because of the rootable at&t note 3.
I definitely meant no disrespect or implication of trolling. :good:
I'm an engineer by trade, so you'll have to forgive my need to have logic applied to things. I'm familiar with traffic prioritization, and use it on my home network. I'm simply stating that it doesn't make sense for AT&T to do this, as the incentive is to provide more services, not sell more devices.
When you buy a unlock phone you have to consider the radio issues you will suffer.. you might have to change your modem version to a AT&T version to get better service (idk if thats possible like it was on the note 2). Yes the hardware might support different network bands but it doesn't mean if you put a T-Mobile unlock version using a AT&T sim next a AT&T version that it will work the same.
And i disagree that T-Mobile version will get more support than the AT&T version..

I TOTALLY agree with you and think it's crap and I would hope it's not true. Just after having that tech tell me something I've been reading for a while sort of confirmed my fear about that.

It would be nice to conduct some tests during peak/congested times, using busy cell sites (high-rise buildings, freeways, etc.), and multiple locations. I'd be curious of the results.
What do you think about the Nexus 5 coming to Verizon
Serious thread
Will update with some sources of speculation as they roll in
Funny read on Nexus 5 rumors on droid-life:

According to CNET it will have Verizon support:

Verizon Forums with some thoughts on the Nexus 5:

It won't come to the useless CDMA carrier. They are happy with their ugly verizon logo branded phones.
VZW is a skank. You should ditch that skank.

Swerve, I don't have Verizon....
I want it to happen really bad but I know it probably won't. Verizon will never let Google have the software control they need because CDMA.
I really wish I didn't have unlimited data. Otherwise I'd pick a new carrier.

If it comes to Verizon their going to screw it up somehow, someway!!:crying:
My prediction is it'll come compatible with Verizon's network, but Verizon will refuse to activate it and beat around the bush about why they won't, when they are obviously trying to find a way that they can install bloatware or otherwise screw with the device.
Just look what happened when deb came out.

Naw..you mean JUST like they're doing on the Nexus 7 LTE tablet!?!
I would love to stay with Verizon. They are great at my job plus I get a work discount and I have unlimited data...With that said after the way they have handled recent big phones (like the HTC One) if they don't get the Nexus 5 (which they probably won't) I am out of here.
Yup I dont see it happening at all

Well, a device without Verizon Navigator is not much of a device at all. They are just looking out for their customers and want to give them the best experience that they can.
/sarcasm
I REALLY want it to come to verizon.. The only reason why I'm still with vzw is because its either them, Alltel, or Southern Linc. And as ****ty as it is, vzw is the best of those :/
My gnex is getting old and tired and I would relaly like to replace it with the N5. But time will tell. I'm not very optimistic though...
I know this will be a bit selfish, but I hope it won't come to Verizon. They messed everything up, will remove Google Wallet, add their own bloatwares and giant ugly logos, not to mention 6months late updates, it will give a bad reputation to the Nexus brand.
However what I wouldn't mind is if Google work with Verizon and Sprint to make a CDMA device but with pure and unadulterated Android without the firmware being messed with, although Verizon would not agree to that, they need to put in CarrierIQ and what not.

According to leaks....nexus 5 is already compatible with CDMA....at least from what ive read....the issue is that verizon wont let you activate/use it...again from what ive read

I think that it's compatible with CDMA, just not Verizon's CDMA. Something about it skips over the 800 band in CDMA. If I recall correctly anyways.
Wonder why CNET assume it's coming to Verizon?

Yeah. The author probably saw cdma bands in the fcc filing and assumed that meant Verizon(not realizing that they were not Verizon bands) . I really doubt that this writer has some inside information about the phone coming to Verizon.

Screw Verizon and its users. Yes, Verizon has a great network, but NO it's not worth getting raped by them and having to use their locked down hacked phones and over priced plans.
Verizon and AT&T are the big brothers of the cell industry, their mentality of "You will take what we give you and like it." is killing it for consumers. Yeah T-Mobile and Sprint has worse networks, but the more people that move to them will show the giants they can't operate like that.
I would drop Verizon in a heartbeat if I could. Paying for a single line with 1gb of data and it's right at 100 bucks. And that's with my 17% discount through work! But, I can't drop Verizon... It's either them or alltel for my area...
