Hi,
According the the literature the light sensor adjusts the backlight according the the ambient light available.
Is it just me but this doesn't seem to be working and yes 'Auto adjust backlight' is checked.

I can actively see this working all the time, if you happen to hold your hand over a bit of the screen you'll notice it slightly fade. I'ts not a major difference but it's def there.

On my TD2 it is working, but the change in backlight are not so obvious, you have to pay attention to see it: the change is not instantaneous, it is gradual (over a 0.5s time maybe), and it does not change much (not as much as the powersaving no-activity backlight level, which is much lower).
The best way I have found to check if it work is to be in a moderately lit room, and cover/nucover the light sensor with your finger. You should be able to notice the small change in backlight level as you cover/uncover the sensor....
BTW, anyone knows if it is possible to tune the backlight level/ ambiant light function? I would like to keep the auto-adjust, but lower the backlight level when it is completely dark to the minimal setting (or even lower), similar to the powersaving level I was talking about above.
This very low level is not nice for watching movies or pictures (it skew the color rendering because white is not white anymore, it is yellowish grey), but I find it ideal for ebook reading in the dark (it saes the battery, it is not tiring for the eye, and it is not bothering for the sleeping beauty sharing my bed when I read late ;-) )

When I move around (indoor/outdoor), the screen brightness is very consistant (and colors are brilliant too), I persume the light sensor worked
but TD2 did not respond to my random playing of the sensor.. the finger trick did not work for me, but i don't care

Maybe a stupid question...but maybe you mistake the LED for the light sensor.
The indicator led is on the left of the speaker grid, the light sensor on the right...if you have ticked automatic in the backlight intensity (parameter/more/alimentatation section, backlight subsection), you should definitely see a change if you are under bright light and cover/uncover the light sensor just right of the speaker grid.
BTW, thanks fort the g-light application, it is working nicely!
Could even save battery, although maybe this is mitigated by having one more background process running for polling the light sensor data...
HTC's website says the HD7 has an "Ambient light sensor".
When I have the Brightness settings on "Automatically adjust", I do not see any changes to the screen brightness. Darkness and sunlight have no effect. Curious to know if others are having the same problem or if my phone is faulty.

If I set mine to Automatically Adjust on either low/medium or high settings it does adjust according to ambient lighting.
Have tested by holding up to a light bulb on all 3 settings and have noticed the changes.

A bit more experimenting with a LED torch and it does seem to be working. The curve is not as I would like though. I would prefer the screen darker in darkness and brighter in the light much like my old iPhone. I was in full sun today and the screen still wasn’t full brightness. So with it on High and Auto off, the screen was brighter than when on High and Auto on. So Auto was bringing my brightness down to what seemed to be about medium levels making the screen a bit of a pain to see. I want full brightness in sunlight please. I am sure others will prefer this default setting though, especially those concerned about battery life. Hopefully a future software tweak will allow sensitivity and brightness curve adjustments. Until then, I will stick with the "high" setting and Auto off.

Have same problem.. Automatic light have no effect on my HTC HD7 (unbranded, with and without nodo).
I totally agree, with me its more of a problem in the darkness. It is way too high when it is completely dark and its more obvious when I switch it from auto to "low" as the screen does become much darker.
Its something with either HTC or windows as my old touch pro 2 had the same problem, in complete darkness the screen would never go lower than 30%...
The light sensor on my hd7 never seems to work..they should implement the way it is on the iphone

yea my phones ambient light sensor doesnt work either i see no changes with the auto setting on.
Auto-Brightness works fine over over here - o2 debranded with NoDo update.
When i take the phone out of my pocket/case in sunlight, i notice about 2 - 3 seconds after I unlock it, it gets noticeably brighter and when comparing to "high" brightness without auto it's exactly the saem. Agreed though i would like it to be dimmer in complete darkness (in bed, for example).
I am curious if there is a registry entry that I can change to help with the highest and lowest settings. If I turn on auto it does adjust it slightly when I am inside, but when I am in the sunlight I can hardly see anything. If there is no light also it is still what looks like a medium setting making it very bright. I hope we can figure this out, it isn't a big deal but still BTW I am on TMOUS with NODO

Screen brightness setting doesnt increase these lights at all.
Im use to the really bright "white" lights from my older Galaxy I

Mine are not super bright, but they are not too dim either. I would prefer to have them darker anyway due to how bright the ones on my Galaxy S 4g were at night.
Mine are the same way.. Very dim compared to my Skyrocket I had. My home button is actually a little dimmer than the other 3. It bothers me a little bit. Not sure if I should take it back for this. Other than that its flawless..Just got it today.. from AT&T corporate store in Daytona. But I think it was the only White one in stock..

An idea.
We know that there is no Infra-red output on the Note 8, (unlike S6, s7 etc) rendering remote control apps useless.
However, there is an infra-red diode on the front of the note 8 for the iris scanner.
In our house we have infra-red controlled dimmer switches for our lights. Upon messing around having far too much time on my hands, I have managed to get our dimmer switches to respond to the Note 8`s iris scanner LED. Meaning when I have my case open, the lights dim and go up again.
What are the chances of being able to manipulate this LED for a remote app. It seems pretty powerful, dimming our lights from across the room. Can make a vid if anyone wants to see - pretty basic stuff.
Could the LED on the front of the Note 8 be switched (pulsed) fast enough do you think? ie 34khz / 38 khz to enable use as as an IR remote control?
There is obviously an API for accessing the IR diode.
Any thoughts?

Yes I have seen that. I think Samsung are assuming that it isnt possible as they only provide the API for off and on maybe?

After all, all a remote control is, is the light turned on and off really fast (ie 34000 per second / 34 khz) in a set pattern to align with the requirements of the receiver / tuner.
Would need to be rooted obviously with kernel level access.

Just read in another post that this isnt possible because the hardware. Ir control remote leds wavelength is tipically 940-950 nm, and IR led for iris scanner is emitting in 810nm. That is why we can see clearly a red dot in the led, I didnt see anything in my note 4 with my eyes (only seen it throught any IR sensible camera). Anyway I will build a simple ir reciver with a PIC when I finish my finals next month in order to check if a IR reciver can get some information with the IR emitter. Hope is the last that we lose hehe

Forget the red dot.
There is actual IR that is completely invisible. Take a photo of your Note 8 from another handset. There is clearly IR in the 900nM range. Use another phone camera, it transverts the IR into visible light.
I do not mean the visible red light you can see when using iris unlock. I do not even have iris unlock / face unlock enabled and it is there.

I'm currently tackling the same problem.
Note 8 turns off the remote control of the lights without wanting.

That invisible ir you are speaking of is part of the proximity sensor.
Just throwing a suggestion, the heartbeat sensor also uses infra red, so we might be able to use that too
This looks really promissing, we have iris LED and heartrate sensor LED, both infrared, this is xda FFS we can do it!
well guys, proximity sensor has an IR LED as well, and almost every phone has a proximity sensor. but still, there's no way to turn all of them into IR remotes till now...

I bought a new p20 pro recently and noticed that, when I record footage, the picture goes dim and dark when i pan or move the scene (even slightly) and the bright, and then dark again. That means that when I play back the footage, the brightness level constantly shifts and changes, making it highly annoying and at times the picture is dim enough that its a struggle to see anything (yes even in broad daylight).
Is there a way to turn this dynamic brightness shifting off or is this a faulty phone?

Hi, did you ever get a reply elsewhere or found the solution somewhere?
My wife's P20 Pro has the same issue. We always accepted the way it is, but only know i thought of finding a solution to it...
Hence curious if you managed to fix it?
