I've been trying to change the boot animation on my stock 2.2 captivate rooted and can't find the original one anywhere, i have looked in: system/media, data/local, res, and anywhere else it might seem that a boot animation would be located, you guys have any ideas?
Bootanimation.zip has to be enabled in the kernel. If it is already just put the zip in /system/media and it will over ride the stock S.
If you aren't running a kernel that supports bootanimation.zip then you can't change the animation.
But the stock animation is also in /system/media
bootsamsung.qmg
bootsamsungloop.qmg

I have Cognition 4.5.3 loaded on my phone. I tried placing bootanimation.zip in system/media via root explorer. Rebooted phone multiple times but still only get the Cognition boot animation.
Am I missing a step with Cog 4.5.3 ? or is it even possible?
I figured out the issue and it was my mistake. I renamed the flashable .zip file to bootanimation.zip and placed it in system/media. I looked through that zip file and found bootanimation.zip in one of the sub folders. I took that and placed it in system/media now I have the customer boot animation.
Hello people of XDA,
I'm in a sticky situation. I want to add a boot sound on my Bionic, it isn't working. I'm running Eclipse 2.1 (.901) and have the boot animation running perfect but sound is not coming through.
I downloaded a mp3 file, converted it to .ogg and placed it in the /system/media/audio/notifications folder (Renamed it to Bionic.ogg) and I have the animation in /system/media named bootanimation.zip
I found this tutorial over on the Droid X2's side ( here ) and edited the desc file and added "s Bionic.ogg" to the line.
I rebooted multiple times and still no luck. Help please!
I found the solution to this HERE you need a different bootanimation file under system/bin and save your audio as android_audio.mp3 in /system/media
I'm trying to get custom boot animations working on a stock deodexed ROM. What I've done so far is in /system/bin: deleted "samsungani" and then renamed "bootanimation" to "samsungani". This got rid of the Samsung boot animation in place of the Vanilla Android one and this works fine (although it is rather crap!).
However if I place any custom boot animation at /system/media/bootanimation.zip it works, but it just plays indefinitely and fails to disappear once the Android interface has loaded. I've tried editing the animation settings inside the zip file. I've also tried a boot animation pulled straight out of the Simplicity v2.1 ROM's zip file which doesn't work either, so it is obviously not a problem with the actual bootanimation.zip as that one must be preconfigured to work on an S5830i.
I must need to change something else but I have no idea what? I tried deleting "bootsamsungloop.qmg" "bootsamsung.qmg" from /system/media which done absolutely nothing.
Bump: I think custom ROM developers should know the answer to this or anyone else please?
EDIT: I worked it out. If anyone wants to know, forget about what I said in the first post. It seems that /system/bin/samsungani is modded in ROMs with custom boot animations as there is a difference in file size. So just overwrite your samsungani with the modified version from a ROM's zip file that has a custom boot animation, such as Simplicity v2.1. Then put your bootanimation.zip in /system/media and that's it.
To remove/replace the boot animation sound the file is /system/etc/poweron.ogg, delete it or replace it.
I was wondering if we can do custom boot animations using a variation of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063280? I was looking in the system files and I didn't see the samsungani in the /system/bin folder so I'm not sure if this will work or not.
Dunno if you've searched or not but have you read this thread?

Just a quick browse through it seems that the boot animation is all in one file.
Im trying to change my boot animation manually by accessing /system/media and replace the original zip file. I already renamed the new and old file with bootanimation.zip and bootanimation.zip.bak, respectively. And lastly, change the permission of the new zip file with rw-r--r-- but for some reason, it wont work. My phone wont recognized the new boot animation and would just skip it entirely. Does anyone know the problem and how to fix it? The original boot animation does work if i revert back the original.
Currently running pixel experience 8.1
Update: it seems that custom boot animation only works with pixel style boot animation. i tested dark theme pixel boot animation and it works but other than that, no other custom boot animation works.
