I have been debating this question with my Mother in Law for a few weeks now. She is about to turn 61 and I am currently 30; so at this moment she is double my age. My question to her is will she ever be double my age again? She says no but I am thinking yes. Saying for instance if we both lived forever wouldn’t there be a time where she would be double my age again? And if not why? How come at one time she could be double my age but then not at any other time in the future be double my age? What value is constant and value is variable?
Your mother in law is correct. This is the only time she will be double your age. If we set your age as X, then her age has to be X+30. The only time X+30 = 2x is when x equals thirty. The difference in your two ages is constant, and the value of your age changes.
She will never be double your age again because if you think if your ages as a ratio (61/30) and add one to the to and bottom, the ratio will decrease and if you were to live forever, the ratio would become
one

Excellent points thank you but how was she double my age at one point in time but never will be again? Is it because of both of the entry points in time? Is time technically the constant and our ages the variables? But then if we live forever is it just our entry point into existance what determines the spread? Because if a variable can turn constant I would think a constant can turn variable. Also what about leap years and other differneces like some months having more days. Come on guys you cant leave me hanging with my Mother In Law like this? Very good answers though thus far.

The fact that you will always be 31 years younger than her would make it impossible for her to be double your age. (Also technically she isn't double your age)

Math answer: You can only have one solution for x+30=2x because it is a linear function, and you're only using positive integers.
Practical, real, and American answer: Every single time you get divorced, you get a new chance.
sakai4eva's answer: Dude, you are on XDA, "bragging" about being pwnd by your MOTHER-IN-LAW about maths. Unless she teaches high school algebra, you should kindly find the quickest egress from life immediately.

Recent article on CNN I'm sure you all saw:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/conditions/09/18/cellphone.sperm/index.html?iref=newssearch
The article says cell phones left in talk mode in your pocket can affect sperm quality significantly. As if nerds needed any MORE trouble breeding.
Anyway, nobody leaves there cell phone in talk mode while its in your pocket unless your using bluetooth. You do leave it in talk mode next to your head as well. If the radiation affects your "gonads" then surely its affecting other cells as well, including our brains. Obviously telling our cell phones to poll our email servers and bring in new messages every x amount of minutes while there in our pockets uses the radio as well, probably equivalent of leaving it in talk mode.
How much radiation does our Kaiser, or any pocket pc, put out compared to an ordinary cell phone?
Should we put away our fancy toys?
Discuss.
Since 'no' is too short of a reply I've been forced to write this out explaining that 'no' is too short of a reply, in any case, no.

Seems like this "sky is falling" cancer thing is getting to be more and more legit.
What that means is that right now there haven't been enough long-term studies conducted to make a clear conclusion if radiation from cell phones are safe, but there is enough data showing a possible connection that consumers should be alerted

There'll be no way to know 100% for sure for quite some time. Its one of those that'll be a "It causes cancer"/"it doesnt cause cancer" debates for a good while.
Me personally, until its been 100% proven to cause cancer I dont really care about it. But people should be encouraged to hear the issue and make that decision for themselves.
haha I'm learning about radiation safety right now.
Cell phones probably do cause cancer. But the rate will vary from cell phone to cell phone.
I personally always use my headphones when I'm talking to someone, because distance is the greatest decreaser of radiation.
I'm sure they don't help things, but I highly doubt they are the direct cause. Now if you have a family history of Cancer, I'm sure they can possibly accelerate the development of it.
I rarely use my phone for voice calls but I may have my doc check my fingers for cancer haha
In all fairness, these days almost anything can be linked to cancer. I mean even mobiles aside, look at the number of strong wifi signals going through the house. Should we worry about these? A new report comes out every day linking something to cancer. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying that this is not true, they may have some negative impact but without more substantial proof I'm not going to worry about it. I believe they linked coffee to cancer a few years back as well. Will we stop drinking coffee?
I think it's about time people stopped drinking the Kool Aid. Without 'radiation' the human race would never have evolved. 99.99999% of people have no idea what radiation actually is and have no understanding of how it affects us. It's like the idiots who prevented city-wide adoption of wi-fi networks because of their complaints of 'sensitivity' to it and the 'negative health' impact it had on their lives. The same people, by the way, that when subjected to blind laboritory tests said "oh, i really feel ill now, please turn it off", when the wi-fi hadn't actually been turned on!
It's like living we're still living in the Dark Ages sometimes.

Nothing protects like Reynolds Heavy Duty.
So I was just watching a show about the 2012 apocalypse on discovery channel, and while I don't believe in it, I find it rather interesting. The most I think will happen is people panicking with anticipation; starting riots and doing things they wouldn't normally do. I really feel like the end of a cycle means nothing; the Mayans had to end it sometime right? Maybe someone just decided to screw with the future by giving us an expiration date. Who knows.
Anyway, what do you think will happen on December 21, 2012?
Sent from my lightning fast Glitched 1.3+Ghz CM7 i897 Captivate
Nothing. The day will go by. Everyone will say "OMFG 2012!!!" Then it'll be the next day and then the next day they'll wake up and say "OMFGWTFBBQSAUCE!Z!!! The world didn't end! We were wrong, again!" The end.
-We do what we must because we can; for the good of all of us, except the ones who are dead-
I hope that nothing actually happens, but then people's belief in the coming apocalypse causes some kind of mass frenzy/disaster, which somehow starts a chain reaction of further disasters and wipes out 90% of the human race.
The remaining people will be the 10% of the population smart enough to comprehend the irony of what just happened.
The herd needs thinned, and I believe I have the skills necessary to not only survive but to thrive during and after an apocalyptic event.
It'll be like the year 2000 fiasco... a whole lotta nada...
I am absolutely positive and fully convinced, without the shadow of a doubt, that 2012 will happen.
There is a change in the Mayan long count calendar on that date (Dec 21, 2012) that will bring us into (I think) the thirteenth baktun. However, I don't personally believe it will be a world ending apocalypse. I just think it will be the start of another long calendar if you go by the Mayan calendar.

The Earth, the other planets, and the sun will all be lined up with the center of the milky way. So I suppose there is the increased chance of solar flares and maybe even a slight chance (extremely slight chance) of the hastening of the reversal of the Earth's magnetic poles. But no apocalyptic catastrophies.

I think no one can predict death unless one is committing suicide. I won't waste my time thinking about 2012
On that day we are all going to lose our sense of reason/fear/pain and going to act like "the happening" as in a real life

mine is just to keep doing what I've done these last few months and that was diet & exercise. Down 25lbs and 2 pants sizes and bulked up nicely. Nothing fancy just hard work and proper food. I was never really "obese" but 5'10" and 220lbs wasn't healthy. I'm now 195lbs shooting for 180/185.
I make a New Year's Resolution to never make a New Year's Resolution, which is a conundrum in itself.
