[Q] Metamorph trouble for D3 anyone? - Motorola Droid 3

basically im finding a theme i like. im downloading it to my computer. im plugging my phone in. im dragging the file i downloaded to MOT (D in the androidthemes folder. then i click it on it. unzip and apply all. some themes are working like custom notification icons but nothing else really is. For example i wanna change the color of my notification bar but its not working. i also tried the gingerbread (statusbar + icons) and thats a no go for me either. i get an error where it says status bar not responding. blah blah blah and everytime i hit force close it pops back up again. Am i doing anything wrong? I am stock deodexed tho. it worked great no problems. if someone could walk me through the steps that would be awsome. Am i not putting the themes in the right folder or something? bare with my guys im a newbie i appreciate your help!

The Metamorph themes here seem to work fine. I'm running the whitebread one. However, I went to a site dedicated to metamorph themes and found a theme with the Bionic logo in my notifications(well, behind my notifications) when I pull it down, that's supposed to work for the Bionic and Droid 3, but when I do it, on reboot I'm flooded with force closes. I tried it about 3 times since I had nandroids, but gave up cause waiting 10+ minutes to restore my phone became to much of a hassle.
It seems when it reboots on it's own I get all the force closes, but when I do it manually it works fine.

yeah i know what you mean. but am i putting the themes in the right folder on my computer? i dont understand why it wouldnt be working at all

"AndroidThemes" is the right folder.

[REQUEST] BlueDroid bar for G1

hey! i've asked several devs for this, but no one seems to be able to do it.. i want a black bar with a blue droid logo on it for my G1.. i do NOT want this as a MetaMorph, because i dont have an SDK, adb shell, or anything of the such.. i have my G1 (currently running CM5.0.7Test7), Usb cable, and 4 gb sd card.. and besides that, i'm one of the biggest nOObs you'll ever meet.. the bar should look like this:
http://s10.directupload.net/images/user/100413/vlnyc22k.png
it's from the BlueDark theme for CM.. i HATE the theme, but love the bar.. Cloverdale makes Black bar mods that are just flashable .zip files, and they seem to work fine.. can anyone do this for me? thanks!
bro i dnt kno enuff to help u but i can say post a thread or re tittle ur thread to ask for help with doing this yourself. i posted a how to theme guide and got a couple replys with good advice i was lookin for

Metamorph is a free app in the market, you download the file (If anyone makes it for you in metamorph) put it on your SD card, and use metamorph on the phone to do the rest. It is easy and doesn't require SDK, or anything else.
Even cloverdale is using metamorph now so it is compatible with all versions. It saves a lot of trouble making new versions for each new test CM that comes out.
i know.. someone made me a MM bar for my g1, but when i tried applying it, it just said "applying framework-res.apk".. and it stayed that way for hours! i even left it like that when i went to sleep, and woke up the next morning to find it still applying it..

Did you superuser permission screen pop up? if you haven't ever given MM su access, it can't work
i already did that.. i even tried uninstalling &reinstalling it, but it still didn't work
Do you have busybox? if so, I don't know what else to say.....
no! lol i dont have busybox, which might be why MM doesnt work..

SMS notification icon?

i've searched around a bit but i couldnt find a simple resolution to this issue...
i have always used SMS popup since my G1 days. i like the stock messaging app more than chomp or handcent and i also like the popup notification more than handcent/chomp. the only issue i have is the black notification icon on the black status bar is difficult to see. is there an easy way to switch that icon to something else? even if its just another color?
you can switch it, its "easy" and do-able. you can download the sms popup app. then pull that file to your computer. go into the res/drawable folder and find the icon for notifcation and change it to something else that's easier to see. maybe pull one from the other apps or roms, then resign the app and reinstall. the only bad thing is you will need to do this all the time whenever they have a new update. But with SMS popup, i've seen updates stop months ago, i dont think that app is kept updated so this may be a one time change for you which isnt that bad.

Its not really that difficult to switch, the only tools required are winrar/zip & android sdk pack. Download the Mms.apk (system/app folder) from your rom using astro file manager to your sdcard, copy the file to your laptop/pc, use winrar to open the .apk (drag and drop it on winrar window, dont unzip the apk), drag and drop the attached image in res/drawable-hdpi folder. Close Winrar. Using ADB (download google's android sdk package)
(go command prompt, cmd.exe in windows, cd c:/android_sdk_r05/tools (or wherever you have unzipped the sdk pack))
adb remount
adb push Mms.apk system/app/Mms.apk
(provided you have pasted your modded Mms.apk in the android_sdk_r05/tools folder)
If you can do that, you will have learned how to theme the whole rom yourself! Honestly learning this isnt at all tough unless you wanna do mods of the likes of cyanogen & paul'o
i thought i was going places but i hit a roadblock...
i downloaded the sms popup apk. tossed it into betterzip. changed the icon in the drawable folder. then i tried to extract it to my desktop and i got the error message "ERROR the file drawable could not be extracted. the pasword may be incorrect."
password? lol beats me
i guess once i figure that part out i take the extracted file and drop it in the android-sign app i downloaded to sign the app and reinstall?
ninjamorph on the market may be able to accomplish this as well, although i'm not sure..
i thought i had it this time....
i edited the drawables and compressed the package simply by using the ctrl key (on a mac) then i used the auto sign tool and that worked fine. gave me the signed.apk. tried to manually install through file manager and got "parse error. there is a problem parsing the package".
Using Metamorph for this modification might be easier.
I was in the same boat as courtstarr24, so using the info in this thread (along with mythamp's image that I slightly modified), I replaced the image in SMSPopup, resigned it and it worked!!I was really pleased because this is my first foray into modifying anything android-related (apart from installing custom ROMs and kernels etc).
So here it is.
It's fine for me using pershoot's .35 kernel and Geo411m's Blackbar v3.
If you want it with a different image, I can do that, but I'm no graphic artist so you'll have to provide me with the image!
Also, I couldn't find the apk on my phone. It wasn't in /system/app and I didn't know where else to look, so I downloaded from softpedia.
Anyone know where it might be?
@b0dge man youre a lifesaver! if you could help me i would be ecstatic! the image i want is attached to this post. thanks man!
I'm on it. Give me twenty minutes or so...
EDIT: Here you go.
I haven't tested it, but it should be exactly the same as mine but with your image.
I take no responsibility for your phone breaking (if it doesn't work) or you pissing your pants with glee (when it does)!
EDIT2: Removed broken app.
thanks for helping me out here but i have bad news...the first apk you posted worked fine. i uninstalled and tried the second one and it wont install. i get the "application not installed" error message.
Ok.. I'm trying to work out why I can't resign it properly.
Sorry it didn't work, but take heart! We have the technology...
Right, this one works for me.. Sorry, should've tested it before posting.
Apparently I needed to delete the META INF folder then resign...
THANK YOU! thanks you so much for this. i know it wasnt a big project but i appreciate it none the less! i'd be stuck with the black on black notification without ya haha
Any time...

Tweaks for Master's Axura Rom

Just wondering what you guys have tweaked on Master's rom (the one I currently love using) to make it run the way you like it.
I have:
1. Reverted the dialer to the stock by copying the dialertabactivity to /system/app using root explorer
2. Found and installed a working Wifi calling apk (the first 2 I tried had various problems no incoming voice etc.)
3. Changed the system font to something a little more standard looking.
4. Changed the browser setting to Autofit Pages, so that when you double tap or turn the phone to landscape/portrait the words reorder and are easily readable. Changed the text size in Email app to small so it doesn't look huge (default is medium)
Oh and if you use his rom and enjoy it as much as I do, donate to master. His work has been beyond awesome so far.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748916 (where I got the font from, many others to choose from)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807116 (where I got the wifi calling from, using the one for htcvision)
I added the Black theme located (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845530)
And a black Multi touch keyboard ( some where in the themes section )
Guess I'm kind of not using Axura lol.
I love the Aura for battery life & speed, but the default theme is fugly.
Anyone has a way to change the notification bar to more stockish?
Thank you and god for getting rid of that crappy dialer and the font..
worst thing that master did..
thank you so much
I very much dislike the dialer too, I like the stock original dialer. Going to try and install that. Also don't like the font.
One last thing, I very much like the android keyboard, where can I get the apk for it? I'm using the htc keyboard right now, but for the life of me I can't turn of haptic feedback, even though vibration and haptic is turned off everywhere.

The theme is the only thing keeping me from giving this bad boy a test drive. I hear good comments about it but don't like the theme, I am more into ASOP kind of roms/themes.

Luck is not on my side today. Tried replacing the dial apk with the one you provided, and it says I don't have enough space. I even deleted the one master provided, then went and tried to place the one you provided into system/app still says i don't have enough space. Huh?
One other thing, I don't like how the pull down notification bar is transparent, makes reading notifications in the pull down annoying when you see other stuff below it, will changing the theme change this to a non-transparent pull down?
Brand new axura user.
Wow, that dailer is indeed ugly.
Thanks for the stock version
You can also adb push the Dialer
One of the primary reasons I stuck with Axura over Macnut or Obsidian was the beautiful theme Master has put over it.
Why would you guys use Axura and then reskin it?
ya, i just went ahead installed the Font and selected it in the settings. Much better.
I also went ahead copied the provided Dialer app and put it in System/App - again much better.
Keep coming with your tweaks bud.
We like the animation however the font is not compatible to vietnamese and the dial is not looking good. Just my though

I like Masters roms the best. The affects are great, very smooth and very fast. I like his themes as well. Not sure why people don't like the dialer its different but that is what makes it nice.
I am wondering is there a way to get the drop down icons in the notification bar back from 2.0.3 I really like those alot better than the 2.0.5 plain icons.

Are you using root explorer? If so you just have to unzip the file and drop the apk into the /system/app directory. Make sure you are in r/rw mode when you tryo to copy it or it will not let you make changes in the /system/app folder. After that just reboot the phone. You do not have to install it. Any apk in that folder wil automatically work upon reboot. It should show up as the "phone" icon in the all programs menu.
The font is terrible. It is cool for about 5 seconds and then it is just annoying and hard to read. Makes you wonder if things you can't see are as screwy as the things you can see.
Thanks for posting an alternative

If you don't like the zegoe font posted, click the source under the original post. There are about 30 or so there. I'm sure you'll find a good one.

Yes using root explorer. yes I unziped the file first, isolated the dialer apk. Tried moving it to system/app while in r/w but to no avail. Says not enough space.
Is there a tweek for the radio?
While I was on JI6, I was getting a strong 3G signal. Since flashing Axura, I'm mostly on edge now, my 3G signal is very weak now.
Anyone know why?
Flash
ji6 modern on top then you'll be fine.

Strange Notification on the bottom left

Does anybody know how to fix this? On the bottom left where you get notifications, my machine is showing a round circle of small circles, like a loading timer. I click on it and under notifications, it says Ongoing, Loading Data, Please Wait... 12:22 AM. It looks like something is caught up. It's not hindering me from doing anything, but something in some small place must be a little out of whack.
Also, whenever I plug in my NC with my USB into my mac, iPhoto is opening up. It never did that before I did some of the other modifications last night.
I have a rooted NC that I then went and enabled multitouch. I also installed su and the Superuser app. I went through the process to be able to use live wallpapers. I then installed the stuff to get weather apps working.
Here's what I have installed total to see if anything here might be the problem. I'd hate to have to unroot and start over, but will if need be. All I'd really lose is my progress in angry birds and who really cares about that.
com.ccpcreations.android.MarioLiveWallpaprer.apk
com.brilliantintent.notes.apk
com.levelup.beautifulwidgets.apk
org.adw.launcher.apk
com.chains.apk
com.slideme.sam.manager.apk
com.aws.android.elite.apk
com.starvingmind.android.livewallpaper.apk
com.levelup.beautifullive.apk
mobi.mgeek.TunnyBrowser.apk
com.studydroid.flashcards.apk
com.rovio.angrybirds.apk
net.andforge.wallpaper.heartMonitor.apk
com.facebook.katana.apk
org.openintents.notepad.apk
com.noshufou.android.su.apk
com.geteit.android.wobble.demo.apk
com.rovio.angrybirdsseasons.apk
berserker.android.livewallpapers.waterize.apk
A bunch of the live wallpapers are going to get removed as either they don't work well or I just don't like them. I've just started playing with the ones I found.
Any help with either a process of finding out what's causing this hanging notification or a solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In general, if you have a an issue that began after installing some stuff, you should uninstall things until the ssue is resolved and then reinstall the other stuff. Then you can focus on the one apk that seems to have caused the issue.
Thanks for the response. I tried that and couldn't figure it out so I flashed back to the original software. Some file somewhere got gummed up somehow. Who knows.
When I just rerooted a little bit ago, I timed things wrong and the root wasn't.....right, I guess. I could install and uninstall apps, but I got a $ when I typed adb shell instead of #. Something was 1 and not 0. I didn't do it right and didn't have true root.
So, back to square one. I now have it rooted correctly and am one by one going through the steps to gain further access to function. I'm only doing one thing at a time, testing it, making sure everything is good and then I move on.
If I get any type of error again, I'll know exactly what I was doing and hopefully the cause.

[Q] Where the heck are the icons stored?!

I am trying to do some customizations. On my previous phones (Droid 1 and Droid 2), even with stock firmware, I was able to use ROM Toolbox Pro to replace the icons.
Well, on the Droid 4 it mostly doesn't work. I was able to replace the ugly ADB Debug icon with a better one, but I can't replace the signal, Wi-Fi, battery, etc - it reboots the phone and the old icons are still there.
I made a backup of the original icons, and the folders show: com.android.systemui/res/drawable-hdpi, and they have names such as stat_sys_signal_1.png
I extracted framework_res.apk and am literally unable to find these at all. They have a similar ones, but the icons in question are NOT there, I scrolled through all of them to check. None even named the same thing. I poked around in the rest of the system/framework folder, finding nothing of use.
Does anybody know where the heck these files are stored at on the stock firmware? I swear I've heard of a blur_res.apk before, but again I can't find where that might be. If I find them, I should be able to just inject the customized PNGs on my computer and overwrite the file on my phone...

Wow! I actually didn't know that there was an app that could change the phone's icons. That sucks that it doesn't work well on Droid 4. Just to clarify, are we talking about the icons in the notification bar? Like the battery power level, wifi indication, etc?
Well anyway, I'm not sure where the actual icon files are located. I've always used a flashable mod to change those icons, or gotten a custom ROM. But, if you want to know, I'd try and contact one of the Droid 4 developers on here, like Hashcode or myfishbear. Maybe shoot 'em a Private Message or something. They do a lot on here, but maybe you'll get a response out of them.
Sorry I can't be more help. Just wanted to give you a reply since nobody else is showing you any love. Good luck. Let me know what you come up with.
Yep! The app is called ROM Toolbox, there's also a Pro version (I think you might need the paid one to do icon changes)
I used it quite a bit when I had CyanogenMod on my Droid 2, as the default CM icons were ugly. I'll try PM'ing those guys and see if I'm able to figure anything out. Thanks.
And yes, I am talking about the notification bar. I call it the status bar, but same difference.
