How soon can we expect a standard size extended battery?

let's face it, the HD2 extended battery is a little bit quasimodo-esqued and the BB is a little bit cumbersome when you're traveling light. How hard would it be to extract another 200mAh or so for a total of 1500mAh while maintaining the same standard size? Anyone here with knowledge as to what's in store in the horizon for an item like this?

I had a standard size 1800mah for my pro 2 which worked very well, cost was around £20, so not the cheapest but was good quality

I went to the mugen link that chris posted but see nothing for the HD2 yet. Hopefully they'll jump on this soon.

Are you insinuating that it's difficult to get another 15pts for an A? If i were the student I would say to the teacher, "do your job at teaching better and I'll get that A."
It's not a matter of unachievable because HTC did that with the original diamond. The stock diamond battery is only 900mAh and soon after its release, HTC came out with the extended one at 1100mAh(?) or so...in standard size.

I'm assuming that you misread my original post

I am also waiting for one. Had one from MOMAX when I was using the HD. The extra 10% definitely makes a difference. A;so waiting for a battery charger with USB port (so as to be able to charge the phone as well).

yea I hope mugen or momax will jump on this opportunity. Im sure most of us will need all the extra power we can take without carrying extra equipment or sacrificing the slim look of the phone.

One thing I have noticed is the stock battery is a Lithium Ion 1230mAh battery and the aftermarket ones that I have been seeing are Lithium Polymer 1100mAh battery's. I have done quite a bit of research on battery chemistries and it seems odd that the aftermarket would be releasing a different battery to the manufacturer.

The one at MOMAX is Li-Ion but only 1100mAh. I can't for the life of me understand why they would release a battery that is lower in capacity than the original.

I hope that we see such a battery in the market soon
HTC HD2 with 1500 mah (standard size) will be perfect combination

I bought a "1700mah" one for my Touch HD and it worked exactly the same as the standard one so I'm a bit skeptical about performance claims of same size upgrade batteries even though the HD2 could really do with a boost!

Yea, those are a dime a dozen. Always make sure that it's from a trusted manufacturer and not some ebay seller...it also doesnt hurt to do a battery test to make sure the mAh is as advertised.

Totally agree... this happens to every gadget i got from Nokia to NDSL etc
Must get from a trusted manufacturer. The extra dollar does make a big difference!

Well if it was thin it wouldnt be an "extended" battery would it? The whole point is that its extended to fit more power into it.
If it was easy to get more power into a battery then HTC would already supply them with the HD2 and extended ones wouldn't be needed/wanted.

Don't think there are any worth considering... there are 1600mah batteries on ebay but the overall consensus is that they're just about the same as ome battery ... it would truly make HD2 a much better phone if they can just extend the stock battery by a bit...

Apparently your logic and maners are weak. If you bothered to flip through next two pages of this section, you would find at least two threads about batteries. In those threads you would find that there is no slim extanded battery in existance for HD2.

lol, your scientific/logical huge brain obviously missed the point.
You asked for an "extended" battery, that would infer you wanted one that was "extended" beyond the normal limits. Currently the only way to get one that is beyond the limits of the ones that are supplied with devices are to buy ones that are "extended" meaning they are larger in dimension and hold more power.
Currently you CANT get a battery for our device that has the capacity of a extended one unless its "extended". The ones you see on ebay and other sites saying otherwise are FAKE.

You should dial back the Smarmy attitude amigo. Athiest is spot on by the way. The only way (currently) to have an extended battery for the HD2 is to make the battery larger.

I suspect that if someone made a genuine Lithium Polymer battery instead of Li-Ion it would indeed hold more charge. But I have not seen any such. The Andida is listed as LiPoly, but it can't be - it is basically the same mA as the stock battery.

Mugen has a 1300mah battery, which is a little more than the 1230 or 1250mah the stock battery comes with. I think I get a little more time with my mugen battery than with the stock, but never ran any definitive tests. But mugen is probably the best you will get with a battery the same size as the stock one.

Why do you guys disinform people? As a matter of fact there are "extendend" batteries that have the same size as the OEM batt. Where it is written that a battery extended in power must also be extended in size? Of course, there is a relation between size and power, but this relation might vary depending on the materials and the technology used.
Here you have a 2430 mAh battery (the "famous" business gold battery, which no one here bothered to test), and the seller says it has the same dimensions as the original one. If this battery has indeed 2430 mAh remains for us to find out. I'm thinking to buy one, just to test.

Nowhere in the add does it state that it is the same size as the OEM battery. I'm wondering if it really is; from the picture angles it is difficult to tell and might be deeper. But it is probably the same.
However, the packaging looks amateurish and suspect. This almost looks like a home-made wrapper.
Let us know if you order one!

OK, I asked the seller about the size and if it will work with the stock cover, here is the answer:
"Hi,
I think it will work with it and the battery has a same size as standard battery."
On looking at the pictures, the batteries may be from Japan, but that is Chinese writing on the battery... or at least it is identical to my Andida "1600" writing.

Yeah...I would'nt put that battery into my HD2...seriously, that looks sketchy as hell. IF it turns out to be 2300mAH, which I highly doubt...it looks REALLY amateur-ish. It's all about memory management people, close crap thats running in RAM and your stock battery will last literally ALL day.

I really hope that you're joking.

Well I'm not, call me stupid, call me whatever you want but I do believe what I said for a main reason: one of my hobbies are rc flying models, both electric and with combustion engines. In this hobby you need powerfull batteries for controllers or engines (NiCD, NiMh, LiPo). I have a range of these batteries of different capacities and some of them have the same size but different power (eg: a 750mAh has the same size as a 2200 one). Of course, the ones that are more powerful are not cheap, but it's money well spent.
I'm not saying that the ugly looking "gold"battery which seems to be wrapped by a 5 years old kid has 2430mAh, but it worths tested. I just want to put this battery on the ohmmetter to read it's values. Regarding the safety for my device, I used chinese batteries on other phones too (spv m3100, kaiser) and none exploded, got bigger or overheat; they do loose their capacity much faster but if you are on low budget a 10 bucks battery saves your as* for a couple of months.

No one is calling you stupid, but you do seem ill-informed.
Cell phones are not the same as hobbyist 3rd party suppliers. Batteries for rc devices are much more third party friendly than cell phones. What we're likely buying from these Chinese manufacturers are probably cast-off batteries that didn't make it through quality control.
Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.
I asked if you were joking because the battery you linked was blatantly sketchy. It isn't even worth checking unless you just like to throw money away.

I wish people would just give up trying to find a higher capacity battery which is of the same size. If it was that easy wouldn't you think HTC and ALL major phone manufacturers with their vast resources wouln't want the same thing? A few mm less in dimensions or a higher capacity battery can mean far better sales (millions more).
From experience with tons of mobile phones and 3rd party batteries they have always come out worse 99.99% time. Most of them are cheaply made where they blatantly lie about there actual capacity, don't meet safety standards, can explode, can bulge, overheats etc.
How many more threads about these cheapo batteries quoted with much higher capacity that is pulled out of thin air.
Not to rant but if you want more juice I recommend you get the official HTC extended 2300mah or Mugem battery. I'm afraid you can't have a thin phone and more juice. end of

are you sure that's even possible ? unless the battery was made of some other kind of materials, I have tyrouble seeing how you could store more power in the same battery size.
If you don't want a bigger phone, Your best bet would probably be to buy a second standard battery but it's a hassle to swap the battery when it's empty

If the battery is the same size it could in theory have more juice but it would be negligible. Seriously though, I picked up a charging cradle with battery charging slot and 2 spare batteries for $20. I also have a car charger and 3 chargers in my house. Unless you get a battery that is about double the size, you won't see a big difference and even then many batteries don't live up to their specs. Chargers and spare batteries are cheap. We're not dealing with smartphones of a decade ago where everything was proprietary and would cost at least $30 a pop.

Samsung, and I'm sure many other major device manufacturers don't just buy a battery off ebay and throw it in their phones. they spend time and money researching better battery technologies to get the best power/life they can.

It's my second day with an Andida 1850mAh battery, no big changes yet compared to my 8 month old 1500mAh OEM battery, i'll post back after a few complete drain and charge cycles.

Be careful buying those batteries. More often than not they just repackage 1500 batteries and Mark up the price :/

After 3 complete charge cycle its a little bit better than OEM but no big improvement. I'll see in a few more days.

I finally get about 15% better battery life. For the 20$ it cost me, I'm happy.

Not Nexus related, but I have a vibrant that I got the Galaxy S 2 Epic 4G Touch battery for recently. Battery life went from about 6 hours to dead (month old 1500 mAh replacement battery bought at a phone hut) to 34 hours to dead (new samsung 1800mAh battery.) Nothing else changed.
My point is this:
1. If the above statements about samsung packing in as much as possible are true, why didn't the vibrant have a 1800mAh battery from the start? (hint, it is always about money.)
2. Take a crap 1500 mAh battery, slap a 1800 mAh sticker on it. People that buy these batteries will see an improvement because most generally they are replacing a worn out battery with a new one. Of course you will see an improvement, your worn out stock battery has only (arbitrary number) 600 mAh worth of usefulness left. The replacement is new and is not worn yet. (All arbitrary numbers follow) So, you will still see an improvement if you take a rated 1500mAh battery, that is labeled 1800mAh, but is in actuality only 1000mAh.
So asking if there is another, bigger, better battery for the Nexus made by Samsung, is a very valid question. So:

Because it is a device from 2 years ago (2010) and the S2 is from q3 2011. Maybe two years allowed them to cram more juice into the battery.
Maybe it wasn't viable then, to stick such a large battery, considering the power consumption of the vibrant compared to the S2. Maybe if they did the price would have gone up.
I highly doubt that Samsung would just stick different stickers on the same capacity batteries. maybe you had a defective or a non-original one. There are people that measure this kind of stuff. How much damage would Samsung's image suffer if someone found out that they sell a 1000 mAh battery with different labels and price tags?

I am a big fan of the OEM batteries. I have not tested a non-oem battery that will perform anywhere close to the stated specifications so far.
If you guys find some good battery reviews, tests, etc. please post up.
Keep in mind that comparing a brand new "Craptastic Brand™" battery to your old worn out OEM battery is kind of pointless for getting a feel of the comparative quality/capacity of a battery.

yes, it works properly. I had used my original battery for 12 months when I switched over to this one. The improvement was very noticeable.
I just charged my phone to 99%, I will report back in 24 hours with battery information and battery history since unplugged.

there are a few 3000mah+ batteries on ebay. not too sure about quality and reliability though, they go for about under 20 AUD

Hm, maybe, but my battery is now 2 1/2 years old, so it has a fading by round about 15% (in best case, read that somewhere), i think with this new one I can feel the (big) difference

My stock battery was getting ridiculous, if I get up at 7am and unplug the phone off the charger, the battery will be pretty much dead by 2pm (<20%).
So last week I picked up HLI-S710EXL from Mugen Power. (You need to go search it on their webiste, I can't post link due to newbie status)
I was hesitant at first because the phone could become bulky due to the extra thickness, but now I'm actually holding the phone better as the extra thickness sits right in the centre of my palm, creating a more natural grip.
Battery life is extended significantly, by the time I go to bed around midnight, usually there is still 35% left in the tank.
I know the price is a bit steep, but I think it's well worth the money, especially if you are not about to purchase a new phone in the near future. I'd totally recommend it.

If you want to buy some cheap but high quality HTC batteries online, I think you need to try the Everbuying.com.

Truth about batteries is, the manufacturer has already installed the highest capacity battery possible for the physical dimensions of the battery. I've purchased them gold batteries and many other( higher capacity rated for the same physical size) batteries and they seem to be a tad better than original battery for a few weeks but then quickly diminish in capacity to a point way below your stock battery. If you want more mAH from a battery to fit into inc s you must look into extended batteries where the physical size of the battery has been increased. A word of warning too with all these cheap batteries is that most if not all of them have no inbuilt thermal protection circuitry and therefore the posibility exists of thermal runaway caused by batteries being charged when they are too hot to be charged- eg hot summers day in a car...

Has someone already tested these? It seems to be created only for the Nexus 5.
It could be really nice to have a 40% increase in battery life just for 10$ !

Nice find Any volunteers ? I wonder if the battery actually delivers this capacity since it is the same size as the 2300 mAh battery ? We´re talking about +900mAh extra capacity in the same size ? It sounds suspicious to me but on the other hand, if the battery actually delivers the capacity, it will save me trouble of having to modify a Polarcell 3200mAh battery made for a LG G2 in order to be usable in a Nexus 5

My experience with Chinese batteries goes back 3 years ago when i was not satisfied with my Gnex's battery , and tried a dozens of batteries , Some was decent and the other was horrible . Some claimed to be 2430mAh (original is 1750mAh) and some was not that greedy and stayed with 1800~2000mAh .
All of the batteries i tried shared one thing , Which is they failed to last 75% of the time the original lasted .
And please look at the size of this and compare it with the lg g2's

Anyone tried this product yet? It says 15-30 days to get here. Wondering if its worth it or if the battery exploded on anyone? Does the battery hold a charge? Is it really 3200mAh?

I ordered it yesterday, it was shipped tonight. I wonderwing about the comments of exploding because it's a chinese battery. Nearly every battery comes from china.

Yet he gives 5 stars? This seems to be rather strange. I've heard of sellers reimbursing unhappy customers in order to have the 5 stars, maybe this happened here...

Unless its whole new battery chemistry or a physically bigger battery its all scams.
LG already crammed the most it can cram using Li-po chem in to the physical size limits.

Of course this is a scam or a typo.

My Nexus 5's battery is absolutely outrageous now for only a 1 and a half year old phone. Won't even last till 12PM when fully charged at 7AM. I might give this shot when I have time (Exam Season )
I think there was a guy on the Reddit forum saying that the extra 3200MAH wouldn't be impossible considering that the G2 battery (which was 3000mah) would still fit in the N5. And it's only a 7% increase in nearly year and a half, not completely rubbish. Battery might be a bit bigger I think.

Anyone who's made the mistake of buying these types of batteries before will tell you: they are not the capacity advertised.
They probably aren't even 2300mAh. They also have a higher chance of exploding.

That web sells fake batteries. I bought one for my iphone saying it was 2800mah and it was a used battery (more cycles than mine... And mine was 3.5 years old) with 1420mah

If it is the same size and thickness, then it's going to be the same capacity, unless it is based on another chemistry. You can also weigh the battery to see if it is any heavier than the stock one. I tried some aftermarket batteries for the Gnex back in the day and when I weighed them, they actually weighed less than the stock. Which shows that it is of less capacity than the stock. From my experience, stock batteries are already at the battery's size and weight limits.
