As the topic says - its annoying when I use my BT keyboard (Verbatim folding keyboard) and the Android Thum keyboard keeps popping up and down everytime I switch fields.
ANything can be done to disable this?
Look for a null keyboard on the market.
you have to do is go to settings, uncheck the box labeled android keyboard and thumbs keybord
Good Tip
I was wondering how to do this without dowloading anything haha thank you

Is there a way to deactivate poping up of the touch keyboard? Everytime when I am in an input field the touch keyboard pops up. But if I really want to enter something I want to use the QWERTY hardware keyboard. So is there a way to deactivate that the touch keyboard always pops up?
3 new threads out of 5 total posts... some would look down upon that. Since a simple search by me for your problem did not yield any direct answers, here's your freebie. Welcome to XDA!
When you go to a text box in landscape mode and the onscreen keyboard pops up, tap the space bar on the hardware keyboard. That will tell the phone not to pop up the onscreen keyboard again until you tap the icon for it.
No, I mean not when I have my hardware keyboard folded out. I mean when it is folded that the touchscreen keyboard doesnt show up.

Click to collapse
OK, let's try this again... so is this your situation?
You are using the phone in portrait mode with the hardware keyboard closed. When you click into a text box, the onscreen keyboard pops us. But you do not want the keyboard to pop up. You want to be able to click into text fields with the phone closed, but not have the onscreen keyboard pop up.
Did I summarize that correctly? If so, I'm working on the answer, give me a little bit.
--Edit--
I just tried the following steps:
Slide the phone open
Open PIE and go to Google
Tap into the text box; the onscreen keyboard did not come up
Tap the icon for the onscreen keyboard; it came up
Tap away from the text box; keyboard went away
Tap into the text box; keyboard came back
Tap Space on hardware keyboard; onscreen went away
Tap away from the text box
Slide the phone closed
Tap into the text box; onscreen keyboard did not come back
Follow my steps just to see if that is your solution. If not, it could quite possibly be ROM dependent.
Your summary is correct.
Here is what happens at my Kaiser:
When I am on google the onscreen keyboard is there. Everything else works fine but I dont like that the onscreen keyboard comes everytime I am in a textbox.
I am using the ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403214
Try the steps I listed above. Also, if you tap a second time in the text box, the keyboard will close, but pop back up if you go to another box.
The problem is that if I open PIE and got to google the onscreen keyboard will pop up without doing anything and I want to get rid of this "feature".
The Touch keyboard cab which I downloaded here has some kind of weird bug. When I go to contact and edit info, in the number bar, the keyboard automatically turn into symbols and 123. Then I can't change it back into ABC. I keep on pressing the ABC key but nothing happen. Even I go to Word or sms I can't go back into ABC.
Any help?
i have a problem with the keyboard as well but it has to do with uninstalling it..!
while it was installed i had the option on the bottom bar full qwerty phone keypad etc.. i uninstalled it..but the menu options are still there!! although when i select them it loads the default keyboard since there is no "touch it" installed any more..!!! any way to fix this please?
anyone????
Hi I have a bluetooth keyboard \ mouse combo that works great except that when I type the on screen keyboard pops up as well. I use swiftkey, and so I can swipe down to hide the keyboard, but I would rather have the keyboard not pop up at all when using the bluetooth keyboard. Anyone know how I might accomplish this? Oh yeah, it does it regardless of what keyboard is an using.
As esc is the back button, you can press it to hide the keyboard, faster then swiping it down

There's an app that is called blueinput that is suppose to give much more functionality to a connected Bluetooth keyboard including a way to hide the on-screen keyboard. Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work. try it. Its in the market.
From the Tab.

Or you could install wifikeyboard from the market. This ime would not block

I just patched AnySoftKeyboard to automatically hide on hardware input... when it's integrated, it could be a good option.
Hi all,
is it possible to stop the onscreen keyboard being displayed when you are using a BT or USB keyboard?
It just wastes half of the screen when you don't need to see the onscreen keyboard.
thanks,
Rich
Try disabling the keyboards from language and inputs.
but I presume on of them is system persistent. But just try and let us know.
There is a Null Keyboard app that just does nothing. I installed that and select it when I use an external keyboard.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wparam.nullkeyboard
Thanks Null Keyboard is what I need. Shame there isn't an option to do it through the system. It seems pretty obvious that if you have an external keyboard connected, you aren't going to need the onscreen keyboard.
It is actually quite easy, all you have to do is tap the return (back) button and the keyboard will sink in. I use a BT keyboard with both Samsung's QWERTY and Google's Japanese input (Beta) and in both cases I can get rid of the onscreen keyboard without a hitch.
What I'm really curious to know thugh if there is a good tutorial for keys you can use to edit while writing, selecting, copying, pasting, making bold or cursive, that kind of thing.
I'm using HTC One Developer Edition ARHD 51.0 and Swiftkey beta keyboard.
LMT Launcher is working fine normally. The problem arises when I am using Whatsapp.
When the Swiftkey keyboard is open and I click on emoji icon it opens above the keyboard instead of closing the keyboard on opening over it thus covering up the whole screen which is annoying. cos whenever you need to put the emoticon u need to press back key once to close the keyboard and then tap the emoji icon to open it. this way it works correctly.
Recently I found out the this issue occurs only when you keep the "Set keyboard state listener" checked.
If I uncheck it everything works fine.
And it happens with stock keyboard also.
I wanted to know that is everyone facing this issue or something is wrong with my phone?
