XXJVS Problem - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

am on stock XXJVS deodexed and when am running an app or a game and i click the home button i have to w8 like 1 min until the icons appear in touchwiz and when i go to task manager i don't find this app still running is there any way to fix this cuz i don't want to use any other launcher i like touchwiz

Download system tuner, it may help. It could be a ram management problem, so really any app that is a task killer through ram management should help... minfree manager for example.
Also I read that 4.5 is better than 4 so if thats what your using.... tw3 is probably best in terms of ram so if you use that, maybe worth sticking with it

It has been for others, im currently having problems that seems to make it slow, like the issues you have mentioned. Its always worth a try, Darky roms are meant to be quite reliable

okay i downloaded system tuner and set it to kill apps when memory is full

Im currently using aggressive, but you can start at medium
Tweaks (along bottom)> autokill> preset ...
Not sure if thats what you done
If that doesn't work let us know and we'll try think of something else

hmm can i use advanced task killer? i think it does the same thing
and no i didint do this i just went to settings and checked when memory is full

I think you may be able to, im only letting you know ones that i can vouch for because i have used them personally. It should do the same thing.......

Most folks here don't use that anymore and for good reason, the script does more harm than good. Most of the custom ROMs/kernels are pre-tweaked these days for the most part and a script like V6 tends to just clash with them. That being said, if you are still are determined to use it all you need is Script manager from Play. Download the V6 script and then run it using that app. At least make a nandroid so you can undo things if the results are undesirable for you.
Yea I just won't. But this phone is an OK phone but I want to try and squeeze as much ram and not to make it run behind like it does really well on slim bean 4.1.2 but I just want to get everything out of this phone as I can.

Try Auto Killer to manage the RAM, it's about as good or better than anything. Just always keep in mind that with only 512mb of RAM and less than 360mb usable RAM you will never get a lag free experience unless you use a Gingerbread ROM.

Really? While you do make some good points, I'd have to disagree with you about a couple of things. First off, using auto killers isn't a good idea with Android, period. They do more harm down the road, causing instabilities in the ROM and apps. There are several write-ups about this around the web - just search and you'll find them. Secondly, even the stock TouchWiz GB is slow and laggy, as is Peach Sunrise and all the other GB ROMs. Sorry, but it's true. Some ROMs might seem okay, but when it comes right down to it, Jelly Bean has been a major improvement in overall speed. I'm sure if you put 2 Exhibit's side-by-side with stock Gingerbread and a vanila JB AOSP (such as SuperNexus), compared the speed and responsiveness, the JB device would win hands-down.
There are ways to help with the performance of this phone, however. There's a whole thread dedicated to it right here. Something not mentioned there because that thread is a little dated, is the beautiful app known as Greenify. Essentially, what Greenify does is freeze/unfreeze apps on-the-fly. It's a similar method to how you do it with Titanium Backup or other apps that can freeze apps, but Greenify does it in such a way that the apps don't disappear from the launcher, and will unfreeze them as soon as they're opened. When they're frozen, they won't take up precious RAM, CPU cycles, and won't drain the battery. Due to it's nature of freezing apps, it's not recommended to use Greenify on the launcher, live wallpapers, icon packs, or anything you use widgets with. All other apps (especially Facebook) are fair game. Good luck!

Actually I have the answer courtesy of Hatememarkez. NOS script: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158329
As I just posted over in the Pacman thread amazingly I was able to get Gnow, Maps, Poweramp and Boat Browser running at the same time and my phone did not freeze up. No lag even. I'm in shock right now with the hell I've been through with this phone.
I know about Greenify but frankly I don't think it does much as I didn't get battery improvement or performance improvement out of it. Reason being your biggest resource eater in JB are Google apps. Greenify won't keep them hibernated. Seeder helps a little bit, but just a little.
On those GB ROMs, forget Peach. I'm talking about RebelROM and CM7. They are the fastest ROMs we have for this phone, just my opinion as I've used about everything that is offered for this phone. Although right now Baked Bean in conjunction with NOS is kicking major a** so I may have to amend my comments. Thing is I've been burned every time I say something like that so who knows. If a week from now things are the same, then it's V-day!

Read the two threads to compare but far as I'm concerned the difference is that NOS actually works for the ROM and not against it. It's also MUCH easier to install than that cumbersome script V6 uses.

[Q] Persistent notification apps getting killed

Hi everyone, so during multitasking my C5303 LTE on stock .257 kills everything in sight, including supposedly unkillable apps that are in the notification bar!
Any idea what might be causing it and how to fix it?
- Installed unmodified Sony rom over carrier-modified rom (Orange France) using flashtool.
- Rooted the phone using doomlord (problem appeared before rooting).
- Bootloader remains locked.
- Ram Manager on "Hard Multitasking" and Autokiller Memory Optimizer on "Moderate" do not help.
- My 2012 Nexus 7 has pretty much the same widgets running and number of apps installed without problems.
Thanks in advance!

Its because of the stupid rminfree ram settings.
My opinion, install v6 supercharger script and configure it. The bulletproof those apps so that they won't be killed!
True!
Whenever i download torrent file using any client on my phone and keep the client in the background then after sometime it automatically gets killed but in notofication panel is says that app is running,......

choose option 16 (the one for bulletproof apps)
it will list the ongoing processes, so type the name of the process, and follow instructions
Thanks a lot sarkar.
I must say I'm disappointed in Sony for coding such crappy settings. It takes A LOT of work to go back to a state of normalcy, I've never had another Android device prevent me from listening to music or blind me by killing lux while I'm simply browsing.

I really don't get it.
Just create a SManager widget for the /data/bulletproof_apps.sh and one for the supercharger settings. That way you just click them once on reboot and you are good to go.
Btw, just use chrome for some time and see whether Walkman still gets killed? Just dont open a video or anything that has sound in it.
My 2 year old Nexus has much better RAM and OOM management. Unfortunately, I damaged the device and had to buy the SP.

Well, then it may have been killed because the temple run, which was active needed more memory and the walkman was the one that was killed to give it space.

CM 10.1 had some lag issues on their lockscreen and systemui stutters. But they would still solve some of the major blunders on this device. However, until Sony releases some sort of AOSP project on this I can see nothing being developed for this.
FXP still does not have this device and being a mid-ranger, I see none of the devs taking too much interest here. Its really a very sad situation here.

i think i figured out why walkman got killed while playing the game.. it's not because of the game, mate, looks like it's because of the mail notification that u have quoted me on XDA!! (notifications do not sound while playing walkman somehow, just pauses the music for a second for some reason). but while playing the game, the expected pause is actually killing walkman!!

apparently the browser drains battery according to trsix. my tapatalk doesnt drain battery. not sure why it would.
EDIT: I just visit xda site on chrome. I'm not sure how the browser could better than the app. If it was much better then there shouldn't be a reason why xda created an app.

That's an interesting opinion. I always said the same thing, until I tried it. I am genuinely curious, have you tried it lately? The new version is a lot better. To each his own, I guess. I have it hooked into multiple forums... but I only use it for XDA, now.
Although, I can't for the life of me figure out why all links are directed through Tapatalk servers. There is absolutely no technical reason that has to happen. They are simply collecting your data. You tap the link, the link sends you to a redirect (on Tapatalk servers), that then sends you to the appropriate destination. Fishy much? Still not happy about paying for the same app twice (v2 and v4). They have definitely employed some shady tactics over the past few months.
Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I like it so much. Convenience, I guess.

Looks way too crowded in my opinion. I read xda and other forums a lot on the bus (where I have to stand and use my phone one-handed), and I would really prefer not to zoom and scroll horizontally at all.
The xda/tapatalk app fits my needs. That or xda really needs to be responsive.
@op I know exactly what you are talking about. I have tried Dolphin, 2 different versions of AOSP browser, and Chrome on all 3 versions of KitKat and every single one of them will load a thread section list(ei. Android Development/Nexus 5 General) twice every single time you go to the page. It is by far my biggest peeve with this phone. When you open threads there is no issue but once you go to a thread section...BOOM page loads twice.
Isn't chrome a resources hogger?

yea, ive used it before. the thing is, i use the browser for much more than just xda. its easier for me, and saves the resources of having another app(s) running. i dont have to zoom btw, i zoomed out just for the screenshot. what really got me to stay with the browser isnt the xda app, what nailed it for me was facebook, and its notoriously bad app. when i got rid of the facebook app(more than 2.5 years ago), i started noticing my battery life improving. slowly, i moved to using most my social sites via the browser(except twitter and g+). its been since then that i regularly get 4.5-7 sot hours on all my devices since. those apps drain a lot of battery, even when not even using them(facebook). a lot of them are pretty badly written.

again, what browser are you using? if its chrome, then many complain about it reloading pages, it beung resource hungry. the aosp browser is fairly lightweight, and not resource hungry. pages dont reload(on low ram phones it reloads pages though). on the nexus 4 it didnt reload pages, and the same on the nexus 5.
I must also have a magical phone, cause my browser doesn't reload pages on its own.

I don't think it's the phone or the browser. The reload mentioned in the OP happens on my laptop with Firefox but not on my nexus 5.

4.4.2 Vs 4.2.2 is it worth the switch?

I've seen posts of several loving 4.4 and others going back to 4.2. Is it worth it? Battery life? Are there known bugs and issues?
Imo, its still very much subjective. As much as I've frequented here throughout the years,I would probably still be considered a noob. With that being said, here are my thoughts
Initially I was regretting the update. My battery life being terrible was my biggest gripe. I decided to root it only three days of having the stock 4.4 rom. Once I did that, my battery life levels returned to 4.2 levels. I'm getting about 15 hours off a single charge which is huge for me. Not sure if rooting actually made the difference but that's the only thing I changed after I initially made the switch.
Plus I love the new camera app which isn't offered for 4.2. I just wish Google incorporated a long press to kill apps feature. Seems like the only way you can get that is through a custom rom
Also, my screen rotation seems to be broken. It works on certain apps and not on others. It will work if I click on a video within flipboard, but not in my picture gallery. I can deal with it for a while but not too much longer

You may want to look into xposed framework and either wanam or gravitybox. It will give you your long press back to kill along with a while host of other features. I could never live on a stock ROM without one of those.

Dude, you are a life saver! I was able to put it on my phone with absolutely no problems. Long press to kill is back!
You wouldn't by chance happen to know how to fix the screen rotation problem would you?

Honestly, no. That's really weird that it's hit or miss like that. There's a reason they pulled that update, though. I'm wondering if there's not different hardware revisions or something and 4.4.2 just works better with some than others. Only suggestion I could make is make a nandroid, do a factory reset, and see if that fixes it. If not, just restore your backup.
Did you make any other modifications or delete any system apps after rooting?

I actually saw something that suggested it was related to the removal of the Samsung hub app. I could probably do a reflash but I'm Judy now getting all my settings finalized. Idk man

No idea how or why that might make a difference, but I made a backup of mine with Titanium Backup and I've attached an archive with the files in it. You can use that to reinstall it. I just froze all the stupid system apps on my phone. I figured it was safer that way. Anyway, let me know if that works. Hope it does.
hy
can anyone upload the camera app+need apps for camera from 4.4.2 ?

Damn, thanks dude
My only "issue" is that I was trying to free up some internal memory. Freezing apps doesnt get rid of them right? It just suspends them from showing up in your app tray correct?

Why not just d/l the new google camera app from the play store? Its better (at least it is to me) than the stock camera.

System apps live on a different partition from your regular apps and so do their .dex files (for odexed roms, which stock usually is). So no, unless you need to push some apps (supersu? ) to the /system/ partition, there is no need to free up space. Just uninstall updates and freeze.

Only 2GB of RAM in Nexus 5? No problem! (great memory management)

In 2016 2GB of RAM in smartphones is nothing special, it's a minimum to get Android working good. Flagships have 4GB of RAM, OnePlus 3 even more. But... I'm so impressed how my Nexus 5 can handle apps running in background. I've been always satisfied with overall speed and memory management and now I can see it even more. Today I've made a completely clean flash with DARK ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/rom-dark-rom-t3368248 and I opened couple of my apps.
So I ran:
MAPS.ME
Chrome Dev with 1 website opened
Instagram
Twitter
Facebook Messenger
Play Store
Phone app
Youtube
Spotify
Weather Timeline
WhatsApp
Tapatalk
QuickPic v4.5.2
Settings app
After open of each app, of course, I tapped home button, not back button. I did not only open each app but I did navigate a little, for example in Youtube I ran a video and THEN I tapped home button. So every app was running 100%. And guess what... EVERY app stayed in memory, when I relaunched every app, I haven't any reload, every app was working exactly as after first run. And everything was 100% smooth and fast. I wash I had a good camera to record a video, but I will try to capture it in few days. But why would I lie? [emoji14] Every Nexus 5 user should believe me, I guess. Of course, probably custom ROM and kernel make a difference in compare to stock ROM. Also, each ROM can work better or worse. So what's your experience when it comes to memory management in our 3 YEARS OLD device? (sorry for my not perfect English)

What part of my post do you not understand?
What's the point of it? I think that everyone who have a Nexus 5 knows it already.
But anyway, everybody is free to talk here. Thank you.

And who would be accessing the thead of a 3 year old phone, if not the few owners?

The post is really good in my opinion im pretty sure it really depends on the ROM and not on every ROM that will work for example the CM13 was alot faster than dirty unicorns ( Im currently running ) but i really like the rom its just all about modding ( i enabled the gesture the omni switch and there is alot more ) [the phone is fully loaded in tasks but still abale to be really good phone without any freezes or lags

Hi im not sure why you bought the phone but i can recommend you a few thinks just to know
-Elemental X is a great kernel
works With CM DU and Stock (not caf)
____MODS______
there is a stereo mod for nexus ( you are going to use your phone call speaker as a normal one )
Extra smoth mod really good mod but it includes new video driver so beware you doesnt have to worry about installing it
Nexus Volume booster there is an app at the play store wich creates a custom zips for this and it actually working !
PHYSICAL MOD I CANT REALLY RECOMMEND YOU DOING THIS AND I NOT GIVING ANY WARRANTY i just took apart my phone (its not that simple be really of the battery don't bend it if you are trying to get it out ( recommend you not doing this ) when you removing the battery connector DON'T bend it too much or it may break OK and be really gentle with the antennas so what are you have to do it sound really simple just apply thermal paste ( it helped me alot for some reason my phone was really Thermal Throttling all the time ) take the primary mobo out you doesnt have to take out the little board above the primary one dont forget to disconnect the camera )
( there is a really good root toolkit it includes back ups lock and unlocks of the boot loader custom recoveries in other words all the good stuff just search in google "nexus root toolkit")
hear is a few tips from experienced nexus 5 user
[if that helped you don't be mad bro just press the thanks button ]:good:
This makes me so proud to be an owner of a such beautiful device. I see people selling it on second hand sites for almost nothing, I actually thing of grabbing another one, or two.
And recently Im more into trying to get my old phones work good(nexus 4 - cm 12.1 - works like a breeze, galaxy sIII MINI - cm 12.1 unofficial - very impressed about how I got it to work, galaxy s plus - gingerRevenge - still works quite good with lighter tasks. And I bet there are a lot more older phones that still works good today.
I tell u. People dont know how to apreciate good tehnology. Also I hate this marketing making u buy a new phone every year.
