Will a Milestone ROM install on the A855? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I've noticed much more activity in the Milestone ROM category, particularly Froyo builds which has always worked better for me.
Can I install these onto my A855? In particular, TheFroyoMod, but any of them will be interesting. My phone's currently running Liquid Gingerbread and on the Cricket network, not sure if that matters or not.

Nope, your phone is a Droid, so you need to stick to Droid builds.

First try upgrading the radio. See my signature to do that. Also, use Rom Manager to fix permissions.
EDIT: Wait a minute, do you even have an Android phone or are you on Window's Mobile?

Not anything major. Compcache has been made available, but if you have Decad3nce's kernel installed then you'll have that already. Also some of the customized notifications have been taken out from Cyanogenmod settings I believe due to incompatibility. Overall, RC1 is still more stable.
well seeing that you opened this nice new thread, How about sprints nfl app. Is there a way to flash this app on cm6 like we did with visual voicemail?

What you need to make that work is to install the Sprint updater app as well along with it. See this post to get it going
Actually, there are all kinds of little things I like better in the nightlies, like the extra reboot options, touch to focus like on htc camera, being able to connect to ad-hoc networks, setting the colors of my email accounts - too much to list.

trouble updating
I'm running RC1 with gapps and black mod, with the circle battery theme from black theme as well. I have trouble betting past boot when I update, i.e. I am running Aug 15, when there have been a couple of updates, I think it's on Sept. 4th right now. I have updated all the themes to the corresponding RC1 release, and won't boot. I will add that I'm not wiping as it says you shouldn't have to. Bootloop! I can even go back to the previous version (Aug 15) with out wiping reapply older themes to go along with that release, and it loads right up! I get to the point where I don't even like to f$#% with it anymore because I get tired of going through the work of flashing like four zips for notta!

Ok that's the problem... obviously on the new nightlies, the kernel is default and uncapped, hence your random reboots. Use set cpu or the battery tweak to lower your max frequency from 768 to about 710, that way you avoid the random reboots.

VillainROM for HTC Wildfire (froyo 2.2)

Hi everybody,
I gave my nexus one to my wife and started using wildfire. I tried Cyanogen but it is very slow. Cyanogen was my rom on nexus one. I tried wildpuzzle and open fire. Then i came with this rome. It is similar to wildpuzzle but (for me it feels) more stable and snapier.
You can download the rom from their web page. I recommend you to give a chance.

Hi, this is Villainrom that was launched last month? If so, i allready installed it and is ok. What do you know about the SuperVillain Rom, when will be out?
Thanks
And why is this faster? I see the last Screenshot on this Site and there are only 2.000 MFLOPS in Linpack. This is not very much.
It is not overclocked and i think it have the same Problems with GPS like the WildPuzzle and Cyanogen-Mod.
What is better in this Rom as the other ones?

Hi,
First of all, bogo mips it not a good criteria as it is stated in its name.
Second i feel it is snapier, compared to others beside openfire. It is a subjective opinion and i can not have any proof for that.

Yep, the supreme ROM for me is Custom Froyo 2.21, Vanilla like but with dialer, contacts phone and messaging, JIT ON by default and stock Kernel !
But hey, this is my wish. ))
Am I the only one that remembers why this ROM is not featured on XDA? Despite it's excitable release, pushing it as a bugless super ROM, it was later proved (and admitted) to be nothing more than a repack of DanneJo's WildPuzzle. There is nothing this ROM gives that Wildpuzzle does not, with the difference that Wildpuzzle is actively developed.
This is not a dispute of opinions; VillianROM is basically Wildpuzzle.
On an aside, although mega FLOPS are not a steadfast mark of a ROM's quality or speed, they are a good benchmark.

Nobody is pushing. I am not aware of the history or anything. I started using wildfire for one week and tried most of the roms. For me this rom suited best for me. I just wanted to share. Thats all
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
It was originally pushed quite heavily, with a lot of hype. It was promoted as having no flaws and being unaffected by the location bugs. However, this was obviously incorrect.
I just thought it was important to correct your topic; the ROM was pulled from this site, and it shouldn't be raised as a potential new ROM or good recommendation, when it is for many reasons, not. After all, it is pretty much just old Wildpuzzle.

Okey.
How can i change the topic then ?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
You can edit the topic from the first post if I remember correctly, else contact a mod/admin to edit it for you. To be fair though, there is no need to delete the topic; it is just important for people to know that VillianROM should not be considered over Wildpuzzle, being that it is little but (originally) a vastly uncredited repack.

Best ROM for a casual user

I have a Captivate for my wife for Christmas. She is not electronically deficient, but is not the type that is going to want to keep tweaking and changing ROMs. I do stuff like this all the time, for myself and for her, but just do not have the time to learn it all on this particular platform. I am hoping just to get a push in the right direction, not necessarily newb handholding.
So, are there any good recommendations for a "one-time good-enough tons-better-than-stock" ROM that I can get on this phone and have her be happy with it? Thanks!
Tough one
Cognition had some stable 2.1 roms that are nice.
also has 2.2 roms
Axura is great 2.2 but you will have to use google voice for voice mail notifications to work.
For casual user, avoid roms with over click kernels, just my opinion

I would have to say Cognition it's pretty rock solid.
I'd wait till' they officialy release froyo for cappy and people start making roms with it. At least it's what I'm gonna do since most 2.2 roms have problems.

Thanks. Cognition looked like the best option. I looked through that and Perception, and it seemed like they were both good...but there seems like there is always some underlying little issue. Stuff like having to work around getting voicemail, or a wired headset not working like it should.
I think I will just run with the latest Cognition, and if she finds something squirrely it can go back to stock until 2.2 is released. Any recommendations for working with Cognition?
Read up on the lag fix. I believe it uses voodoo. To disable create a folder in the voodoo folder on the sd named disable-lagfix reboot
If you look to apply themes make sure you disable first. To enable delete folder, reboot

Voodoo changes the filing system on the phone from rfs.to ext 4. The utility you use to flash themes, clockwork recovery does not always play nice with ext 4. It is safest to disable the lagfix to apply changes like themes then once applied turn it back on

Well this guy is really good at making a rom. im downloading his 1.3 version (should be equal too, if not better), but the 1.2, FREAKING AWESOME! Its my go to rom when i have issues with other roms. Definitely easy to use. only problem was one app was funky, but its the apps fault, others complained about it (on the games website). has the muli touch keyboard and has some great lagfix options. can even overclock IF you really need too. Well hope this helped, if not, best of luck and Merry Christmas!
Bumping up my own ancient thread. My wife has been happily running her Captivate with Cognition for over a year and a half now. It is starting to get a bit long-in-the-tooth and glitchy. With all of the changes over this time, I certainly would like to update it. For daily, average use it looks like CM9 is a safe bet. Are there any JB roms that are worth it and stable? Is there much to be gained from JB over ICS?
Also, I have never had to restore before. I have done some searching and some googling, but nothing seems too clear to me. What all do I need to do to save everything (contacts, calls, messages, applications, app data, pictures, etc.) so that it can be seamlessly transitioned to a new ROM?

In my opinion CM10 is a great improvement! The current installs all seem to factory reset, so you loose all your apps.
If you stick with CM9 you can flash right over top of what's there. Of course wiping the dalvik and flashing gapps too.

[tether] android-wifi-tether

Android Wifi Tether has a new build out, that now supports Motorola Droid Bionic & RAZR. We need confirmation that it works on Droid 3/Milestone 3...
http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wifi_tether_v3_1-pre104.apk
For Droid 3: Everything should be automatic and "just work". If not, let me know.
For Milestone 3: You should be able to get things working by selecting the Droid 3 profile in the settings screen. I would like to get everything working automatically for all the different Milestone 3 variants, so what I would need to do that is:
Model Name: example, Motorola Droid RAZR (you guys are like xt860, etc...)
ro.product.device from build.prop: example, cdma_spyder
Thanks
I used it, it allows tethering, but it pulls up the verizon screen to pay for the service.

Do you have the RadioComm edit? Looks like VZW did you Droid3 guys like Droid X with the GB update. It should properly work with the RadioComm edit, or a source built ROM like CM7, just like Droid X... It gives you a far more configurable interface than the built in tethering app. Thanks for testing!
Any non-VZW folks out there wanna give this a try?
Just tested on my Droid 3 tethered it to my tablet and it works great. Running .890 cm7 10/16 build.

I haven't tested that it works or not but for my ME863 (Milestone 3 Hong Kong version) ro.product.device is umts_solana.
One question I have is, how do I remove its binaries? I noticed after I ran it that my device already includes a "Mobile hotspot" binary, which actually popped up when I turned on WiFi Tether, so I'm hoping they don't interfere with each other...
I see a "reinstall" button but no "uninstall" button. I assume it wouldn't have overwritten anything that was already installed, right?

Great I'll hopefully get that device info in for the next build, if not, should still be soon... for now the Droid 3, targa or razr profile should work for you.
Don't quote me 100% on this, as I am not the lead developer, just the guy focused on bringing Infrastructure mode to as many devices as possible... But, I believe both android wifi tether and the stock hotspot use the same prop entry to let the system know that tethering is on. So, when AWT fires up, the built in hotspot thinks you've turned it on. Tethering should still work properly.
I'm still new to the project, so hopefully I'll be able to help refine things... Hostapd support is somewhat new to android-wifi-tether... Harald and I first getting it functioning on DroidX around new years. I had to step back from nerding out on android for a bit. I'm back now, though... And ready to make a huge impact... When version 3 hits the market, it will be monumental!
Latest build... Sorry, should have put this link here in the first place.

Good to see you got your issues sorted out!
Be well..
Works great for me using Radiocomm edit on Liberty ROM.
Allows me to tether my Kindle Fire to it.

[Q] Can you give me advice on a ROM for what I need?

I got screwed up by the stupid AT&T update... it only half finished. I don't know why. I kept telling it NO, not to update. But at some point it must have on a reboot. In the update section it says, "Continue update" but clicking that does absolutely nothing.
UNFORTUNATELY, now I have NO WIFI and NO BLUETOOTH. Can't see any wifi routers now, and can't see any bluetooth devices. UGH! DAMN AT&T! I didn't even ask for an update. SO....
HELP ME PICK A ROM!
I used to flash ROMs on my older PocketPC phones... I flashed a Gingerbread ROM on my Galaxy Tab, and I flashed a ROM on my HTC Aria.
So tell me what your opinions are about some ROMs. Here's some features I'd like to have:
- ICS
- Newest Sense
- HTC's button dial command and voice dial that was left out of ICS (bastards).
- Native wifi hotspot
If there's a ROM that combines that and is STABLE, tell me about it! I want opinions.
There's really only one option and it's not on xda.

Are you just gonna leave me hanging with that?
I'm by no means an expert, but I've recently taken the dive into helping a friend with his AT&T Vivid. After looking around at all the ICS ROMs out there, the one I settled on was Extreme Holiday Dream X2...doesn't have the newest sense version, but it's running 3.6, so it's fairly recent. Also (again, not an expert), I'm not sure any newer version of sense would work on the Vivid.
Now as a heads up, most people don't seem to have issues with the ROM (and it is a very nice one), but we have had some problems that may or may not be related. First is WiFi constantly attempting to turn on and never working, which I think I've narrowed down to the fact the ROM uses the stock kernel, so I'll be attempting to fix that tonight.
Other problem is the ROM Toolbox not working, though I think that may be linked to the way I rooted the device since SU isn't giving permissions to it (set to auto-allow). That I'll be attempting to fix with SuperSU.
I know this ROM is stable for just about everyone else so far (no actual known bugs), but I don't know if it meets your last two prerequisites, since I'm not really all that familiar with Android devices in general yet. I'll ask my friend and see if he knows.
Due to my permissions right now as a new member, I can't link you to it, but you should be able to find it by googling. The thread I found was on rootzwiki.
Hope this helps. If I find out more about the button dial/voice dial and native WiFi hotspot support, I'll let you know.
EDIT: So I asked about the features, seems like it has the button dialer and native WiFi Hotspot, but not the voice dialer. I'm sure there's an app for it, but it's not native.
Google the rom in my signature

Except that WC's forum is down. Is there an alternative way to get the ROM and kernel?
