[Q] Weird keyboard request... - Motorola Droid Bionic

I love the keyboard, but i realized i never use the enter key on it...and I was wondering if there was a way to replace the enter key with lets say a little optical joystick thing? Kind of like how the Incredible had the optical joystick or whatever you want to call it....but have it as an onscreen thing.

Smart Keyboard Pro has an option to change it to smileys. You can customize the smiley menu so actually you can make it anything you want. So you can set it up so just press that button to say "Hello" (idk if theres a character limit on it)

I appreciate the respond but i was hoping that it someone could customize and put a joystick or something in there...just so when i have paragraphs of text it will be a lot easier to navigate through and fix words...the size of the enter button is comparable to the size of the optical joystick thing on the Incredible and the actually joystick thing on the Eris...i know its wishful thinking just thought it would be neat.

I am with you there. It is a bit annoying to change letters by clicking and picking that blue picket to move it to the letter you want. Being precise on a captive touch screen is basically non existent.

I believe the keyboard app mentioned above has the ability to add arrow keys. I will check and update.

Smart keyboard pro has an option in the general settings to "show arrows". So as stated above it is imo the best choice.

Yes there is an option to show arrows. I don't use it because I'm pretty used to where to press to get where I want. But i remember a few years ago when I first got into Android, I did need the arrow keys and they did wonders.

change button layout

just wanted to see what everyone thinks about the button layout.
should we keep it?
should we change it?
how can we change the button layout ourselfs?
is there any progress on making an application to allow us to change our button layout?
what does everyone think?
im used to the button layout now but i would love to customize it to my liking.
There needs to be a third option. "Allow for customization"
Everyone perceives their needs differently.
EDIT: Should also mention that I'm fine with it the way it is, but the way your post is worded makes the third option necessary.
Leave it,
Its perfect.
leave it. Only add button combination for running apps.. If everyone's is different, you will have a hard time giving directions based on buttons.
i like it the way it is as well. the only thing nicer would be more buttons; if we were able to get the red button to "go home, then sleep" it would allow long press camera to be used to display running applications.
a program to modify the keymap was in the works. don't know what happened to it.
i think it would be awsome if the keymap were like this. power is power, volume is volume, 1 tap camera goes to landscape, long press camera goes to camera, left d-pad is back, right d-pad is forward, up d-pad is menu, down or center d-pad to go home, red end button as is, green button as is.

can't change dpad function - need it for many games. for those who don't play games, would be great. once again, individualizable keymap seems best.
I personally like it.
We used to have an older configuration but this current one seems very usable making efficient use of the keys we have.

If you mean the original, menu on the volume slider, that was THE worst. Last year I quit Android as soon as I started because I hated using the volume slider all the time.

personally i was in love with the old layout
i loved how holding the home button showed all running apps and made switching between them a breeze
if we could somehow incorporate the old layout
id be all for it!
even though i'm accustomed to the current one

it would be cool to have that button layout and make the center d-pad to swith back to the current button layout so we can use the d-pad for games and whatnot.

That just seems overly complicated.
When I first switched to Android, I hated the layout, but it's grown on my now. Only thing I wish is for a spare button that could be made into a search button so I could have working quick compose in chomp sms.

[Q] Moving the text cursor

Hello,
I have updated from my much loved G1 (rooted updated to CM6) to the SGS, I'm really happy with it so far, except there is no trackball... and I've found navigating around text to be extremely irritating, especially if the text in say the google search box in the stock browser is overflows, you cant move the cursor to the end of it by the touch screen.
Am I missing a trick here or is this something I have to live with? [long press on text in the iphone brings up a magnifier to move the cursor around, considering TW is an iphone clone I thought samsung would have added something similar]
If you use Swype, swyping the bottom two left keys from left to right will bring up the arrow keys. You should be able to navigate your text with that.

Thanks for that, having no rollerball / D-pad on the SGS was a bit of a pain after having a HTC Hero, but not any more

Cursor arrows are also available in the normal Samsung keyboard by long pressing/holding down the '?123' button on the bottom left corner.

Wow... This is really nice to know!!! Especially after coming from the Samsung Omnia i910 with the wonderful optical mouse option. I wish they would have put that option on the SGS!!!
No problem guys, just glad I could help ;-)
Wow thank you very much for that tip. Im coming from a Nexus and Ive been switcing to Smart Keyboard Pro just for the dPad in there. Many a thanks!

Yep, they should've added it to the main tutorial. But it's mentioned in under 'More Help' when you long press the 'i' (information) button.
In Froyo, when you click on a text field it brings up a little blue cursor mover, it looks like a blue circle with an triangle on top. This allows you to positon the cursor by pressing on the circle and moving the cursor. It also allows for selection and copy/cut/paste. It is a big improvement over 2.1.

Looks like that option is not available in Froyo (long press and arrow keys) unless i am missing something?

[Q] [Request] android fanboys don't read this

Okay to start off I love my nexus one and would not buy an iphone so all the android fanboys don't jump on my case. But there are some software aspects of the iphone that i like. For instance I like the way messages show up on the lockscreen on the iphone and the iphones multi-tasking. I was wondering if it would be possible to implement the iphone style of multi-tasking into the nexus one. Basically the trackball can still be used for selection and all that good stuff if you even do that, but if you double tap it at a selectable speed it would open recent apps. Or even go further to make the scroll bar that the iphone has. Give me some response on this, tell me what you guys think.
what is this...i dont even?
what is your question? I want to somehow have a setting in the nexus one where if you double tap the trackball it will open up recent apps and possibly implement an iphone like scroll bar at the bottom.
Sorry for asking but.... Are you sure you know how to use your Nexus ?
yes i know how to hold the home button... lol

and? why would you want to double tap your trackball? you know iphone do that because they only have one button right?
also it would create huge issues for selection with trackball...
Let's say while wanting to double tap the trackball for multitasking, you had something selected, the first click should theoretically open that app/link directly...if we implement such feature, people that actually use the trackball for opening stuff will have delays, which sucks massively.
All in all, this idea is awful. You can make the number of recent apps higher in Cyanogen, do that and you won't need the scrolling bar of the iPhone...
If you want to double tap something, download QuickDesk PRO and set it to open on double tap of home key. It has a 'QuickPanel' feature that shows recent apps and its a fantastic piece of sofware.
For the messages on lockscreen.. download WidgetLocker and place Pure Messenger Widget on the lockscreen..
chompSMS does this lockscreen "thing", and even allows you to reply to them without unlocking, if you so wish, and relocks after.
For double-tap home, there's literally loads of multitasker apps that can do that, even offering "coverflow" style switching between apps...
Itching thumb is another good task switcher. nice looking graphics and gesture support.
Use HandcentSMS to replicate that better than Iphone experience
just get an iphone.
then you can try that, and maybe you'll go back to the nexus one, maybe not.

Nice first post
OP, the reason double tap is a feature on iPhones is because of the lack of buttons. Steve only likes to push is customer's buttons, not his phone's
(horrible, I know lol)

Unfortunately it does not seem to work with CM61/ADW, only see 1-3 apps. Also the 'styles' preference is disabled.
wow lots of activity just got out philosophy class so its alil hard to comprehend all of it but, I am gonna try the lockscreen thing and the double tap the home button sounds really good. The thing that i got annoyed with holding the home button is that sometimes it will accidentally go to the home screen. LOL I don't want the iphone... my mom, step-dad, and roommate all have them lol. Android is where its at. With all these customizations you guys have told me about I am satisfied.
if you hold "home" button the last used apps would appear and that also means those apps would open faster which leads you again multi tasking. ok, I admit that's not a user-friendly way to access the apps but theyre going to fix alotof stuff like that in gingerbread.
There's also a program called Smart Taskbar. I didn't like it, but perhaps someone else will..

remap s-pen button

Anyone ever heard of a way to remap the button on the S Pen?
I rarely use the Air menu in fact I actually disabled it in options.
I do however use the pen in my hand probably 95% of the time, I love the precision as well as having the ability to hover over something without clicking it like a mouse can.
My only thought is that it would be amazing to be able to press the button and have it register as a tap at the current location instead of having it pop up in the air menu.
I also would love to be able to modify that SVG Circle that Prince the current pin location on screen to something more visible and possibly add a trail or something. I'm guessing this would require rooting. I am a long time desktop developer but this is my first time really delving into Android and I have noticed so many hidden services and apps that I would love to kill but I can't so it looks like I may have to root anyway.
That prints* sorry I tried to edit the typos but the save wouldn't send. I'm assuming my you block extension here is blocking some script. I've pretty much disabled 90% of the functionality on this phone just to help secure it that's another thing I need to look into browser security.

Yeah I think there's a lot of potential for some really helpful and amazing functions. First time I used this and noticed it could track on screen without touch I thought that was something very special. And then when I found that it could register a button press while hovering I immediately thought of thousand applications for this.
Just one off the top of my head. Imagine having an actual useful text to clipboard function where you simply hover the cursor over text you wanted and click the button to highlight and let go of button to stop highlighting. It would make copying text on the phone just like using a mouse. I am so sick of having to long press and stay completely still for the damn thing to register. We shouldn't have to do that with this s pen.
I have tried before on rooted note 3 to remap the s pen button but the phone didn't recognize the command... always pop up s pen menu. I think surely you need root before trying or try adb push.
Regards
Conito, I would love to hear more in-depth description of your attempt to remap it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.spencontrol
this might be an option if you have rooted your phone.
it doesn't outright remap your button, but does let you execute commands by drawing lines or symbols while holding the button.
I haven't tested it since the note 2 though because I no longer root devices.
I have even wrote to Samsung asking for this. I want to be able to remap it for the eye dropper to when I'm drawing. It's set as the eraser from Samsung so hopefully someone will one day find a way to at least change the default tool (eraser) That might be easier than a whole other app or something.

Sorry mate you have to quote, I didn't see your post until now.
I just try to remap with applications like xposed additions and stuff like that. But the app didn't recognize when I pressed the button. So the only thing we can do is get into the app that manage the spen command and edit it with tools or things like that. I remember that some guy in the note 3 forum develop a simple app that can launch that application. So maybe that could be the solution: edit the behavior of the original spencommand app.
My best regards.

HELP: Use gestures and navigation buttons at same time, its possible?!

So, i have a annoying problem with my Mi9, well, is not with the phone but with me...quick story short:
I have used a G6 for a year, the LG Keyboard is awesome and quick, and i like the way it work, now with Mi9 i cant have LG keyboard cause none of the port's work on my Mi9, at least the 2 i try. So, i use Google Keyboard and notice something stupid as f*ck:
- when i have the navigation bar in the bottom like back, home, menu/recents i can type well with rare to none error typing, when i have gestures enabled (of course without navbar buttons on) and even if i resize the google keyboard height to their highest i miss the keys i want to press, like i want to write an "o" or a "p" or a "m" all in the right side of keyboard but instead they press the "L" key a lot of times and thats is some idiotic problem.
my workaround is: use navigation keys and put a little height on keyboard...BUT, i dont want to use navigation bar in the home launcher or even in the other apps i dont use the keyboard.
So, i want to use gestures but in whatsapp and messages app i need to have the navbar to dont miss the letters i want to press, it is possible?!

That's not what he's asking.
He wants to be able to disable and enable the navigator bar based on the application he is using.
This isn't difficult to do, he just has to find someone who'll do it.
