Can someone tell me will I loose my ability to root and flash roms if I take the ota update that is suposto be coming for the bionic

possibly. If you are comfortable with roms and flashing, then I would just wait until the custom roms are updated to include the updates from moto. The updated roms will come as quite as the ota usually

The new 5.7.893 OTA was just found today on stage 1 via cheesecake. Its only a 4 Meg update from those running 5.6.893. If you are using the p3droid forever root, it doesnt break it.
I'm running it and haven't noticed any issues except webtop seems broken.

From what I understand, only those who have installed one of the "leaked" version found via Cheesecake are seeing this OTA.
If you have a stock/release level Bionic, you wont see this...
on my x10i
i dont think ota works
on the motorola forums they stated that the ota is in testing and will be out in 30 to 60 days.

I have a thread started for this very thing.
Once I find one I would like to start a thread for stock roms of every upgrade version.

Hello, I just came from the bolt today.. never had a motorola before so this locked boot loader is new to me..
I really want to flash a Droid theory ROM as I'm used to his work from previous phones but I can't find one based on .886... Do I have to use this cheesecake thing to download .893 in order to flash a ROM based on .893 or would it run ok on .886?
I'm pretty sure I need to update to .893 but I'm gonna hold off for the real ota..just hoping I can somehow use a ROM built off it..
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
I'm running Th3ory Shift3r and have not updated to .893. Just posted a screenshot in the Screenshot thread of it.
You think it's just that ROM or would all of them work?
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
U don't have to update. The custom rom is built on the 893 system files. NOT the full update that also updates the kernel and radio, etc. U can safely flash the theory rom. When I decide to restore back to stock using one of the fastboot restore to stock method s u will be 100% back to stock. The custom roms do not update the kernel or radio so there is no risk at all of taking u off the ota update path. Flash away

I've flashed Theory (both Shifter and Purity), Eclipse, and Liberty. Never had to update to the leak.
Awesome thanks guys!

Here's a Megashare link - don't forget to unzip the archive as the OTA and CRC files are both contained within. www(dot)MegaShare(dot)com/4358757

I installed using my script to downgrade to 902 with full data in tact, updated to 905, 230, let the Android update script run on my apps, rooted with modified razrs edge (using SuperSU), and all is well. Very happy!
Any big changes from .2233?

Webtop is reported as finally working. Updated kernel. Looks like we are either looking at an OTA or darn close to it.
No go

I went 902 to 905 renamed zip to update.zip and it was a no go.
No need to rename it. But when you say "a no go" that's really not providing any information that people can help you with. Some versions of this put the update zip inside another zip with a crc file. If that's the version you have, you need to unzip the update zip and put that on your sdcard-ext. Then go into recovery and do the update from zip option.
Does this leak make all Bionics run at 1.2GHz, or are people like me with a certain revision processor not going to see that boost in performance?
Waiting official version hihihi

Same here, I don't trust myself doing this lol. Plus it sounds like they're close to the OTA version of ICS.

Webtop
YES! Webtop works!:good:
Is there an easy way to install this without reverting to .902 then OTA .905 then finally "update" to .230.
If I'm already on .229 ICS leak can I not update without using RSD, OTA then Recovery?

Only 1 number really? 1 number can be major differences. You really can't tell anything by a number.
Just an FYI.
As I was preparing to sideload this and had just gotten a fresh build of 905 loaded, I rebooted and was greeted with a notification to download this update to my phone!
I am not on the soak test list nor am I registered for the Bionic on Motorola's support site. This means that this version will definitely be the OTA and will likely start pushing out to all users very shortly.
Just read on Droid-life that the second update for LG G2 for Verizon has been approved. We aren't getting 4.3 just yet, but a few fixes. I was looking forward to fixing camera issues and that annoying jittery touch screen. Either way if you don't want to take a chance of losing root, tethering or/and if you have a custom recovery installed (TWRP and CWM) then you probably want to wait until the update get broken down so we can apply the update without losing ROOT or custom recovery.
I used Titanium Backup to FREEZE
"Software update MUC 6.4.1_B02-LG"
hit my blog for other LG G2 related stuff.

That's always the rule of thumb... ota = the devil. I always wait for rooted ota zips for any device. If you don't and you ota and lose root and your first born everyone will just say "Never ota. Hopefully they find a new exploit"

24A Kitkat is released too. So you'll want to root before updating because kitkat hasn't been rooted yet, on any device.

24A is posted in Verizon Dev.
I'm pretty sure 4.2.2 can be rooted. Its 4.4 that hasn't been rooted yet, on any device. The G2 is one of the lucky few because updates don't kill root.

So being that I have only had the g2 less than a month..and I'm not super familiar with adb, is there a better guide to get root on Verizon?
I have the root on any device, but can't get an adb window to "check devices"
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Well you have to make sure the right driver is installed and adb drivers are good. Check USB Debugging. Put USB Connection to ETHERNET, do ADB DEVICES in a command prompt. You should get a popup on the phone asking permission to allow adb.
Pretty easy.

Nevermind. I got it. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I have successfully updated my Moto X to lollipop.. I was would like to root my phone now but I have a question..
If I root my phone now.. How will I get the future updates??
I have rooted my previous phones but there I could get updated roms with updated system version.. But here I don't see any roms..
Thanks in advance.
Sent from the future...
As long as you don't change any of the system files you will get the updates. If you flash other Roms you have to use their updates or flash back to stock to take the update.
