[INFO] [APP] [HOW-TO] Never pay for an app! Ever!!! - G Tablet Themes and Apps

WAREZ IS BAD

You know, it's never a good idea to come to a forum such as this and promote piracy... This can hurt the community.
Besides, how do you think some ppl feed their family?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

I prefer to pay for these rather low priced games so the developers of them will continue to produce apps that work on our tablets. I don't think its a good idea to advertise on this site for pirated games. Sorry for the speech but this is exactly why the music industry went to the crapper and why going to the movie theater will continue to cost more and more.

Well some of the apps are crazily over priced. Never thought of it as piracy though, i now see it differently.

The forum rules strongly discourage this kind of piracy, regardless...
So, if someone report, this thread will most probably gone

How OFF is OFF-TOPIC?

Help me define. Simple HOW OFF is Off-Topic?
Does anyone know...?
lol... give your best shot.. IQ
LEGO comes to mind.
I never see people here helping each other build cool lego models..
So in other words, you're asking what's OFF Limits in a OFF-TOPIC section? Hmmm .... threats of any kind, damning or belittling(sp?) someone else's religious or political beliefs, making fun of people physical/emotional/psychological disabilities even if it's your friends or family member. Promoting racism, child porn, child abuse, advocating violence, and supporting rape is a definite no no and barbaric in my book. Making fun of someone's grief over a death of a friend or family is also barbaric.
Or how off limits can you be Off Topics section without being banned? As some say, the sky is the limit, but here, the limit is the sky, lol. Child rearing and relational issues are within the bounds in this section, which I haven't heard much about here. But who knows

Your previous post, sending people to survey links would definitely be off limits. Creating threads for free webhosting sites over and over again would also be off limits. Spam is something we try to avoid. Members help by alerting mods to these types of posts. Violators can be warned or banned, depending on the severity of their actions.
I'd also agree with the things robosiris said earlier, as we'd like to keep this forum a friendly place for all to enjoy.
Other than that, off-topic is pretty open. Lego Mindstorm projects would be a great topic
...so off-topic isnt really Off-Topic? or is Everything aother than xda phones
NOT SPAM JUST READ ON...( For MODERATOR )
or is anything other than xda phones, softwares and gadgets considered as SPAM. Yes i do agree maybe I erred since I was kinda "zit" where the "limit" of Off-topic was concerned, no one would expect it to be so ENTIRELY "LIMITED"...
I STRONGLY agree 1000% with "robosiris" stuff like that should NEVER be tolerated... and commend XDA moderators+ for being swift on posts and for implementing this feature in their Administration.
Ok then, is it better to QUIT Off-Topic? Since "Off" is not yet defined...
SINCE the statement below contradicts the usual statements i get... "your topic is not related to phones, etc..... always about xda phones... and so on..."
Then IS THAT "Off-Topic"? yet according to Alex (moderator)... Of-topic is Defined...as pretty much Free..

I've changed my post to read 'off-limits' instead of 'off-topic' in two key areas, which should hopefully make more sense.
It was late and I didn't realize I was using the same words to explain myself, which tends to lead to a very confusing response
i simple do not know and even do not care what is in and what out - off topic.
but .... am glad to have a place where i can relax and read some other stuff than all about htc devices.
this is where i go when i need to get three steps back and after a while again move forwards install applications, customize, soft reset, hard reset, browse and read off topic, install applications, customize, soft reset, hard ... ;-)
cheers

Small request when posting software reviews

All too often when someone posts a reviews and/or announcements of software, they neglect to mention if the program is free, shareware, or commercial. It would be kind of nice to know this ahead of time. I hate reading about some great package, only too discover it's an overpriced commercial app. So please, when posting about software, mention how much it costs. Or is this against forum policy?
I'm not adverse to commercial software, but I prefer freeware, especially if it is open source.

Does this really deserve it's own thread? I agree that it is annoying, but i can't see how starting a thread about this is gonna be beneficial. It will just degrade into a bunch of people arguing pretty soon. Hopefully i'm wrong, but i doubt it.

damian has his own site now: hard to conceive of a scenario by which either he or his kernel will re-appear on xda -- way too much water under the bridge.

GPL violations and an inability to play nicely with others. He is very talented but he climbed up a tree and either didn't know how to get down, or didn't care to.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Yes he was banned the reason for that is disputable but not my battle.
What i really do not like is the fact that his own site is being attaked all the time.
Just leave him alone please children !
I think Damian GTO kernel is the best
miss Damian and webstar1... two great developer
Violating GPL is THE major sin in the Linux / open source world. You might get to rot in hell just for that, period.
I don't know if he is actually a sinner, but all his fans should know that the Linux kernel means 20 years of hard work of talented people all over the world and obeying the license is the least anyone can do to acknowledge that kind of contribution.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I think those who appreciate Damian's work also appreciate the work invested in Linux and the principles of the gpl. The issue is nuanced and depends upon your perspective: for example (1) was the gpl violated or just a selective and self-serving interpretation of the gpl? and (2) are the rules for gpl compliance being applied equally to all and in a transparent manner?
What is clear is that Damian saw these aspects differently than those who hold sway within xda, he challenged both their interpretation and authority as was banned -- or as one person commented "was invited to leave". LOL. Perspective and interpretation. Many a legal career has been based on less.
Really, it is a moot point. XDA continues and has many fine people developing, posting and assisting others. Damian has his own site. Those who want to, venture there. Those who are offended by him and his activities do not have to visit his section of an infinitely expanding web.
Continuing to disparage him in his absence brings no credit to anyone IMHO. It serves no purpose but concomitantly it does (a) serve to advertise his activities and (2) as illustrated by this post, raise people's curiosity.

Anyone else think Cnet has a majority of apple fanboy authors?

I have grown to disregard their reviews completely now. I have also never seen a non apple product on their site get past a 4. Amazing phones and tabs too, including but not limited to: The Sammy Galaxy Note, Acer W500 tab, Acer A500 tab, and I think the Galaxy S2.
The user reviews are usually highly contrasting with the Cnet reviews. Am I paranoid or is Cnet a bunch of apple fanboys?
When I tried to give my android superstar products a 5, they blocked my ratings as well. Gotta love apple censorship.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
CNET is nearly all either android or iOS fanboys. Few tech blogs can avoid fanboyism in their postings.
agree, from most readings from Cnet, they always paint pink the Apple stuff
or when they try to be "neutral" yet they story sounds like they have no idea what they are writing about
I would have to agree with you. Their inability to maintain even a modicum of neutrality is one of the main reasons why I have completely stopped reading CNet.
Agreed.. the entire site is flowing with Apple fanboys, and I've grown tired of their biased reviews.
.
Thread moved to off topic. Would advise you to read forum rules and post in correct section.
Failure to comply with forum rules will result in an infraction and/or ban depending on severity of rule break.

Should XDA make something against the hate towards some devs

Developers on XDA nowadays face more and more hate just cause they are not the favourite dev of someone, or cause someone thinks they did copy something. Sometimes people even make death threats against developers!
Should XDA do something about that, like for example filter obtrusive, insulting content in posts?
If you want to change something please sign the change.org petition here: https://www.change.org/p/xda-developers-com-make-something-about-the-hate-towards-devs-on-xda
BTW: I say this not just like that but I actually am a victim of this myself! See the pic in the petition!
XDA has Moderators to handle posts that disrespect others, or break any of the site rules. It takes reports to alert us though, we can't monitor every thread.
Also, this kind of drama creating thread is not going to help anything and will only work against your objective.
So please, simply report posts that break rules and Moderators will handle it.
And note, it definitely takes a thick skin to interact with others on the internet, developers especially. You can't let every negative post get you down, just ignore them. Does it matter what a stranger thinks? Not to me.
I am going to close this now. This kind of thing will end badly for everyone and serves no purpose.
Cheers,
Darth
